Several of these reviews don't really get that this story is for the Main Protagonist adventure (if you can call it as that) and experience as an misunderstood, yet hilariously being dubbed as someone who is monstrous in acting and other skills he can get from the Void Space, it really hilarious for me to read all of these and thought to myself, wow, what would be next in the chapters that will be released by Translator-nim (My Rating is 4.5/5, the only complaint I have is the slow updates,... more>> but rather than that, everything is ner perfect for me) <<less

At first I really like this, the misunderstanding is really good and hilarious, but then its get too much.

MC system is so op it can do anything, from looking to future fate of a movie, giving MC place to rest at busy time, to making MC understand every language on earth just by reading one script. Its too op that MC never ever struggle, and theres no restriction at the ability. Its just too absurd. TF you mean the system can see a movie fail bc the director is involved... more>> in a scandal??? That doesnt involve anything with script at all. The system make it boring and very unfair to everyone else. Its fine as light reading but I cant see myself to care for the character

edit:They even gave MC singing and piano skills!!!why dont we gave him surgeon skills when he reads medical drama script too?!?! HELL YEAH LETS JUST GIVE HIM CULTIVATION AND IMMORTALITY WHEN HE READ XIANXIA DRAMA SCRIPT TOO WHILE WE'RE AT IT?!?! DO YOU KNOW HOW DUMB THIS FEELS?!?!

even random op chinese MC with system have decency to put limitation on system with 'points' mechanic, this one can do everything for free. Fudge this. No sense of growth at all <<less

I've read the entire novel using MTL. It started amazingly and made me feel excited. But it got ruined midway.

Plot - 3/5

Character - 1/5

... more>> World Building - 2/5

In this world, things but MC exist and he has massive main character energy around him. Every other person exists to praise MC. Every interaction is about showing and making people think how cool MC is. All the side characters are barely explored. MC never gets involved in the showbiz on a deeper level. He never uses the gift that he has 'void' to the fullest.

We never get to find out how much money MC is getting paid for the movies and shows he's doing. He never helps his close friends choose nice scripts so they can grow too. He IS narcissistic, greedy, and extremely self-centered.

Now, we have seen such MC many times. I'd say the MC of Manhwa called Return of Mount Hua Sect is similar. But we love that MC, while this story's MC is just bad. Author tries to make it seem that the MC here is great, kind, and a benevolent person, but is he?

Also, my last and biggest complaint.

THIS NOVEL IS A FANFIC!

During the last 200 chapters, the movies Parasite, Joker, Batman, and many more were copied scene by scene.

Btw, let's not even talk about romance. EVERY single woman drools over MC. It's always the girls who want to impress MC and be with him.

In the end, MC just settled for the girl who had the guts to confess to him first. Heck, even then he didn't say that 'I love her'. It was more like, 'Damn, she likes me? Alright then, I like you too.'

It's sad how I was enjoying this story till 200 and then it kept going downhill. <<less

The premise starts off interesting and dives deeper than what you would the novel to do. But as you read farther along past c120 it becomes clear that the author doesn't give you the details. He often glosses over events and character interactions that could be built up to give the MC and side characters more background and emotions. But the side characters are all relegated to one dimensional reactionary characters who all fawn after the MC after interacting with the MC for a period of time. It's comparable to... more>> scratching the surface with minor details but never diving deep to give you what you really want. It leaves things to be desired
Spoiler

like when he goes to sing a album with Miley Cara. She's a famous singer. So you would expect the recording session to be heavily or decently detailed. No all the author really says is and I quote here. "12 hours.

That was how long Woojin spent in the recording studio. From early morning until the afternoon, Kang Woojin was fully immersed in the recording sessions with Cara. Meanwhile, back in Korea, the night had passed, and it was now morning." like wow this is disgusting. The author chooses to forego explaining how the MC will sing in favor of reactions from the general public for the mc's anime work.

[collapse]
this just goes to show that the author is inexperienced at writing and lacking the critical creativity needed to build and change his novel further. This would be better as a manga/manhwa and shouldn't be further explored in the light/web novel medium if it is going to lack details a novel should have. <<less

This is actually quite good and enjoyable. Quite similar to a manhwa called "Movies are Real" but more on comedic and wholesome vibes. The misunderstandings are humorous and the MC is relatable and likable.

The only one thing I hate about this is the endgame FL. She was likable at first but the near ending made me hate her with passion.

Spoiler

MC finally revealed his actual self to everyone with his speech and Miley just had to yap, "Oh. He's just acting." Like shut the f**k up, b*tch? SHE can't even listen to his side as HIS GIRLFRIEND. MC already told her about this before and she just brushed it off as nonsense. MC then gave up explaining his situation after seeing it was useless for him to speak up 'cuz cycle repeats. So he lived a very long life acting "cold" and "emotionless" with no one, aside from his family and friends before, who really understand his true self. What a pity. A great work ruined.

[collapse]

Word of advice: Stop at chapter 475. You don't have to read the rest and just create your own ending in your head. It's much better this way.

f*cking brilliant, one of the best stories I ever read. I'm actually subscribed to their patreon so I can read more and I can get notifications of new chapters.

There is so much I want to say but I will say that the stories the MC acts in are great by themselves, no character is left behind and are constantly coming back one way or another. The way the MC's career rises is very fun to read and how he takes full advantage of his cheat (which just lets him experience... more>> the lives of characters in the scripts he gets, but he goes out of his way to experience every character multiple multiple times) is very entertaining and exciting.

And the characters reactions to the MC and the productions he's in is also very entertaining.

If you are one who likes reading or seeing characters reactions to things the MC does this is a story for you.

The misunderstandings the MC gets into baffles me to hilarity XD.

I honestly want to write a fanfic of all the characters reacting to what actually happened and what is going on in the MC's head because he always wears this cool and aloof persona while on the inside he is always panicking in some shape or form or he's internally fanboying over being around celebs.

Highly recommend, it's a fun read that makes you keep coming back for more. <<less

While the novel has an intriguing premise and potential, it falls short of expectations due to several critical flaws that hinder its overall impact.

Firstly, the author's lack of attention to detailing the protagonist's use of their "cheat" ability is a significant missed opportunity. The reader is rarely privy to the intricate workings or mechanics behind the protagonist's talent, making it challenging to develop a genuine connection or understanding of their works. Furthermore, the plots of the various works the protagonist partakes in are often left unexplored, further preventing the reader... more>> from developing an attachment to these projects. Instead, the narrative primarily focuses on the reactions of bystanders, marveling at the protagonist's realistic performances, leaving the reader feeling detached from the core experiences.

Additionally, the protagonist's excessive reliance on their "cheat" ability undermines the narrative's sense of challenge and accomplishment. The story could have been far more compelling if the protagonist had to genuinely strive and put forth effort into their work, rather than having success handed to them effortlessly on a proverbial silver platter. Knowing that the protagonist's achievements are not truly earned or deserved makes it difficult for the reader to feel genuinely excited or invested in their performances. This issue is further exacerbated by the absence of any significant obstacles or adversities for the protagonist to overcome, rendering their journey a smooth and predictable affair devoid of tension or dramatic conflict. The bare minimum should have been to show the process of how the protagonist mastered the various works he took part in through his cheat, instead of just handwaving an explanation.

Moreover, the novel suffers from an overabundance of filler content, often consisting of repetitive scenes depicting individuals praising the protagonist's skill. While these scenes are expected and even desired in the wish-fulfillment genre, this novel constantly harps on the same few achievements, unlike other wish-fufilment novels.

Despite that, I still don't think this is a bad read. The novel just didn't live up to its rating and premise. <<less

its an ok read, if u r lacking stuff to read. Not much exciting points. Its like a smooth coasting road on a good weather day with occasional slow traffic. what makes it a good read is actually the translator. One of the best translator works I have seen, they even explain the frequent hard to understand romanised korean words. The concept of the story was amazing, the execution though? Pretty bland. MC has good personality but due to a "misunderstanding" he keeps acting rude to everyone. The misunderstanding trope... more>> is quite funny at times, but the author milked it too much, so much so that I like the side characters better than the MC. MC quite rudely rejects his seniors. Its true, he has monstrous acting capabilities all bcoz of the void powers, but he is nothing without it. No ppl skills whatsoever, no character development, no good interactions. The only good interaction, I saw so far was with the director of exorcist only bcoz he acted little kind to him crying, thats it. Imagine how horrible he actualls acts with others.

The movie plots are good, the spacing was good, but we see no proper acting, nor much efforts from his side. Ppl would kill to be in his position but he literally doesnt value the efforts of everyone else involved. All we see is everyone drooling for mc's acting and praising him back and forth, throughout all chapters.

MC does not act like an an actor, he literally thinks to wear a buy 1+1 suit to wear to the mise en film festival where he would be the main protagonist. And I was seriously hoping for a proper arrogant character to crush MC under their feet and show him how ruthless the acting industry actually is, and having good acting skills doesnt cut it, and how incredibly lucky he actually is. But, sigh, this is one of those stories where every thrown stone becomes a stepping stone.

i actually love op protagnist stories, but there is not much to this story at all. Its a decent read, if u want the same things happening again and again. It does not deserve the high ranking #9 position that it currently has.

It's an entertaining story.

Though in its basis it's so lame piece of writing, especially when the MC reaches Hollywood and starts according to authors' will to steal the real-life achievements of the real-life actors and film directors all in the name of "great korean culture and national pride"

Usually this trope, when real life cultural or scientific achievements are attributed to the MC (who is equiped with a cheat and gets everything with no effort whatsoever), happens in chinese webnovels (all stealing and plagiarism is of course in the name of... more>> the national pride), but it seems that koreans writers are not too far away in this respect.

Personally, it's ok for an MC to have a cheat (that's fantasy for you), but, hell, show some creativity and don't just attribute other peoples' sweat and tears to him! Let him do some work beyond stealing and plagiarising. <<less

This is a great novel so far. The misunderstanding upon misunderstanding makes this more of a comedy than anything else.

The MC is a poor smuck that made one unfortunately decision and now he's stuck having to leave up to it. The system isn't very front and center. When reading the novel, I kept forgetting it was there because most of the time, since most of the time, you're seeing everyone else's reaction to the MC.
Spoiler

Like there is a part where the MC learns English via the system. There was a foreigner working on set who didn't know Korean, MC was utterly thrilled to have a chance to speak English. MC didn't think much of it, but everyone else started assuming that he lived in the US just because he didn't have an accent. The assumption became fact for everyone else except the MC after a couple of chapters and the alleged "truth" including MC having worked in Hollywood.

[collapse]

When anyone brings up these assumptions, the MC is so confused. It's hilarious. Of course, the MC doesn't correct them since he's trying to live up to a persona he accidentally made of himself and that only makes these situations more funny. Since people he knows are starting to get involved into his acting career, it's becoming harder for the MC to keep acting so aloof. I'm just waiting for when his mask finally cracks. I think it's gonna be funny.

So good read and worth it. The translator does a marvelous job and makes it easy to become emerged into the story.

It was an entertaining read. The plot was interesting but the MC never really had any major problems to resolve and there's no real character development. He gets this strange new power and then it's a straight shot from there to the end.

It's funny and have the hilarious Misunderstandings that works well with the Protag who's a goof that pretends to be cool and aloof by accident.

I just have to point out the extreme Korean patriotism here. It's funny at first, but slowly it kind of gets tiring bc this series praises anime and those genres, but then starts insulting Japan as a whole and makes Japan a jealous country over Korea.... more>>
Spoiler

I get that there are jealousy of the MC in the first place, but there were barely anything in the "first parts" of the Protag's acting career being jealous that a newbie gets hired immediately with barely any audition. There's only 1 instance of a Korean being jealous and then she quickly disappears, but shouldn't the Protag face more struggles in his own country first before the second one?

[collapse]

This isn't the first time I've encountered a Korean novel that bashes and hates on Japan, but then it gets too much that it gets boring bc that's ends up being the entire plot more than half the time bc the author is too busy hating on Japan than concentrating on their novel. <<less

Update: I have now read the entire thing, and it all makes so much more sense now. The translation is a lightly edited MTL, which explains all of the strange word choices I mentioned in my original review. Since no one is reading this because of the artistry of the written word, I recommend that everyone just read the blanket MTL instead.

The ending is unsatisfying and the writer missed every single opportunity to fix that.

Spoiler

The formula never changes. The much-anticipated Hollywood projects Woojin does are literally just lazy rip-offs of existing movies the author personally liked (Joker, Beauty and the Beast, and a John Wick/Jason Bourne mashup). The same thing happens for every movie: the same internet comments, the same strange nationalistic racism, the same shock that the good actor is still a good actor. No one ever looks at his filmography before assuming he's an overblown hack, and no one is even tangentially aware that they can view foreign content on the internet. Everything is lazy.

But the biggest problem is the romance, because that could have been this story's greatest strength (and SO easily, no less). Why do Korean stories always set up early love interests and then never use them? Hwarin was entirely sufficient, but not glamorous enough, so she was thrown away in favor of the Miley Cyrus knock-off... fine. Whatever. Your protagonist lives his life pretending to be someone he's not. He lives a lie, both in his opinion of himself and in reality... but whenever he tries to step out of his persona, no one believes him. That is a soul-crushing way to live, man... and the author seems to understand that, and he tries to get the story to culminate in some sort of relief for Woojin, but he SUCKS AT IT. Do you know how the main love interest *should* be introduced? She should look at him funny and say, "Why are you acting so serious? Just be yourself. Have dinner with me. Chill." That would give the character an emotional outlet and endear the love interest to the audience. 'At least one person in the world actually understands me'. Instead, the author has her, his girlfriend, explain to the other celebrities around her, as he's trying to explain his reality to the world, that he's accepting the Oscar IN CHARACTER AS A PSYCHOPATH. Woojin then promptly gives up being his true self ever again. The end. I kid you f-ing not. The author tried to do some sort of time loop thing where he went into his subspace and experienced himself in his life story or whatever, but it was weak sauce. No one cares how he got his system, author. I know you've been dying to over-explain your genius plot device or something, but literally no one asked.

[collapse]

Original review:

First of all, I enjoy it. It's a fluffy read that generally avoids the toxic nationalism and casual racism of a lot of Korean web novels (it's not absent, it's just toned down enough to not be unbearable).

There are some very real problems, though. Public reactions and media attention isn't realistic (it's just whatever the author wants fans and media to think... tabloids don't ever dig into his past, or find any of his antics questionable... everyone asks "How could he possibly do this!?" But no one actually tries to find out. It's unbelievable in the 'I dont believe it' sense of the word).

Also, the author doesn't ever seem to know which name to use for a foreign character with a first and last name. If the character is Billy Madison, the story calls them Director Billy. Likewise, the Japanese names are treated in the same way, despite the fact that Japan does name order in the same way as Korea... it's baffling.

Then there's the little gripes... the MC is described as 'cynical' CONSTANTLY, but it just doesn't seem like he is... he acts more disinterested or calm or detached... the only thing that makes him seem cynical is literally that word being used over and over and over again, NOT his actual actions or the reactions from people around him. Also, they use 'diary' instead of 'calendar' or 'schedule' ("he checked his diary to see what appointments he had that day").

Finally, the use of the word 'foreigner' is used to describe literally anyone that is not Korean. If the scene is in Hollywood, filled with Americans, they are a group of foreigners (and the author also feels the need to let you know that they're all speaking in impeccable English, for some reason). It's jarring, annoying, and incorrect. <<less

I'll give it 3 stars on the basis that I've enjoyed it quite a bit for a long time. But over the last arc or two, the quality has been declining. Half of every chapter is just snippets of online articles or comment sections praising the MC.

Another point is that MC never pays any price for learning new skills. He just reads a script and becomes an expert. It removes any tension from the novel.

I like the translation and story enough that I’m actually part of the translator’s Patreon.

This is a relatively easy read, funny because of the misunderstandings, enjoyable because of the OPness, and so far we have yet to see romance in our ML’s horizon (just lots of girls crushing and fanning in secret). A “Mary Sue” but not a “Holy Father” type of every day life story.

Junk food of a novel: tasty but no sustenance.

MC gains all sorts of skills with no real effort. Sometimes, it feels like the author just went shopping for skills and said, "Oh this is cool, let's add it to cart." The story has no natural progression because all of the plot happens for the sake of showing off MC's new skills.

Essentially, MC gains new skill; he shows said skill; everyone is amazed and thinks he's some crazy genius monster—cut to MC panicking on the inside.

It's not horrible. Again, it's just... more>> junk food. Consume it in moderation and don't expect much.

On a side note... the author can get super self-indulgent at times. It's low key a harem novel with how the single women fall over for him. Some parts are also just disappointing when you can catch the author's beliefs from the descriptions and dialogue (i.e. how foreigners and Chinese actors are described; the nationalistic tendencies; etc). You really have to brush past it because this type of novel doesn't target an audience who cares about these issues in fiction. <<less

I was reading another amazing novel when my ADHD walked in and told me to read a manhwa, so I went through my backlogged listed manhwas recommended by several social media platforms, one of those is the manhwa adaptation of this novel.

It was amazing, I laughed and hit my pillows too many times. I cackled a lot and even choked on mt own saliva. So when I got up to the latest chapter, I was desperate. The need to read more of this world, of this character Kang Woojin, is... more>> imminent. I was impatient. So I was pleasantly surprised and delighted when I read that part where the scanlators informed about what chapter the manhwa is currently in the novel.

I was tripping over myself just to read the novel. The translator, woopread, had a good grasp of it too. The only thing that disturbed me was the neglect use of Japanese and English honorifics, that instead of using -san or mr., they used the Korean honorics -nim or -sshi as if it was universal lol.

But the novel is amazing. There were a lot of timeskips I wish the author-nim didn't do, because the process is important and I really want to read all the details. I want to watch all those movies and series Kang Woojin starred in. I want to listen to all his music as well 😭

The novel makes me envy the people inside who can truly witness the soaring success of Kang Woojin. It's been a while since I've felt this.

As impatient as I am, I cannot wait for the translator anymore. I will now tackle the mtl.

Kudos! <<less

Pros:

  1. it's a good read when you're bored, unless this is the one that bored you lol
  2. There are funny scenes in this novel that are really good
  3. I can't think of any other pros quite honestly.
Cons

    1. The MC has a huge plot armor called misunderstanding which no one ever tries to verify so far.
    2. The MC is flat, like no growth whatsoever after a certain point. Sure, he grew as an artist but as a whole person? Nah. He hides quite thickly on his misunderstood cold icy persona to get by. I understand his reasons but until when can he hide his true self though? I like his goofy true self better.
    3. The story is a rinse and repeat type. Author never planned to have the MC rest properly like some sort of punishment. And MC cant even stay put. Dude, you'd die early.
    4. He mostly plays villain roles.... like... author, are you saying villain roles are by far difficult to do rather than playing main lead roles? Come on... main lead roles are hard too. You just didn't give Woojin the opportunity to do heavy drama roles. Drama, like those heart-wrenching ones.
  1. Anyway, those are my views. Read at your own discretion. It was a good read in the first few chapters. But it becomes too repetitive.

looking at the ratings of this novel and a few others, it feels like I'm in the minority, but these novels are all kinda tr*sh? Consumers like to consume, I guess so I can't complain, it's a free platform and all, but damn some of these novels ratings just look totally insane to me, especially after reading the novel in question. Reminds me of my first review huh, anyway

author really loves his misunderstandings/misconceptions, constantly pushing and just screaming and pointing to the reader "see what I did there?! That's a... more>> misunderstanding right there! This shit's gonna blow up! A snowball rolling down the hill turning into a big ball of-" stfu bit*h it's so f*cking annoying enough is enough can you stop. Also the protagonist is incredibly ret*rded, MC doesn't even try to figure out what he can do with his superpower, just waits for author to drop the breadcrumbs into his mouth, oh also not to forget how ret*rded MC talks, no way to explain it, MC talks like he knows the future, like author gave him the script already, cause it fits too well. MC says this thing and then afterwards things fall into place perfectly so that the way he said it allows misunderstandings to happen, that doesn't happen in real life, it's so damn fake and that is the point, misunderstandings can be good for story but here they just look so artificial that I can only say Deus Ex Machina <<less
