I was the director of a Capybara Zoo.

A variety show came to film.

But it happened to coincide with the capybaras collectively escaping, and the staff anxiously knocked on my door in the middle of the night.

I said, “Hmm, let’s sleep and chase them tomorrow, there’s still time.”

Everyone: “…”

A new famous actress, pretending to be a pet lover, eagerly looked at me and asked:

“Can I pet it?”

I replied, “No.”

She said, “But I want to.”

I said, “Hmm, alright then.”

The next second, she raised her hand and petted my head.

“Wow, it’s just as cute as a capybara.”

The fans’ eyes turned red with envy:

【I finally understand why she’s the director. She is literally a reincarnated capybara.】

Until the variety show was finished filming, the two top actors in the entertainment industry confessed to me at the same time.

That night, the trending searches exploded.

Netizens: 【Can’t blame them because I want to date her too!】

This is a lighthearted, slice-of-life short novel with a few moments that make you think, "Yeah, life’s like that sometimes."

The plot isn’t the most complex, and there are a few moments where the author could’ve expanded on certain things. However, it’s not a major issue, considering it’s meant to be a short, light novel from the start.

The focus is more on the lazy stoic FL and the quiet moments in the zoo. The FL is relatable to a point, and you get to see their subtle growth over time, especially... more>> in how they connect with the capybaras and the people around them. The side characters are a bit more surface-level, but they’re still interesting.

The author does a decent job using symbolism. The capybaras aren’t just cute animals — they represent bigger themes like community, balance, and how unpredictable life can be. There’s also humor sprinkled in, which feels natural rather than forced.

Also, I really recommend checking out the additional texts that explain how the FL came to be, an the ones that dive into the poor ML's perspective, as they add some extra humor to the whole story.

As for the translation, Crimson Translations never disappoints.

All in all, I had a good laugh, and I don’t regret the time I spent reading this. <<less
