At the age of eighteen, Fu Zhen’s father brought an illegitimate daughter from outside.

The father and elder brother who loved him so much since childhood seemed to have changed from then on. For the sake of an illegitimate daughter, his elder brother rebuked him for being an inters*x monster. His father even drove him out of the house after breaking his leg.

In order to avoid offending the illegitimate daughter, Fu Zhen lived a miserable life in the outskirts of Pinghai city for two years. He had a hard life and after being secretly plotted, got drunk and slept with a strange man.

And he had just gotten accustomed to living this way.

One day, his father and elder brother came to his door, and he thought that they were going to drive him further away.

Instead, they told him that they regretted it.

Hm I'm not sure how I feel about this webnovel. I dropped it after making it a significant way through, so any important plot points after c257 are foreign to me. I liked the relationship between MC and ML, and I liked how the female antagonist had similar events happen to her as she had caused to MC.

I feel like at a certain point though, the story felt like it could have ended instead of dragging on, which is why I stopped reading where I did. I would give the... more>> first 200 chapters a 3.5/5 since I did enjoy it and bingeread it, but the rating falls off as the story keeps going.

Spoilers about what happened to the antagonist below.

Spoiler

I was actually really interested in how the system worked for the main antagonist. It was interesting to see how the system impacts people from the POV of people without the system. But about how the main antagonist was punished -- although I don't like the main antagonist, I also don't really like how the author went about punishing her. Having the rose-colored glasses pulled off of everyone else made sense. Having her lose her place in the family she manipulated made sense. Having all her lies exposed to the public made sense. Even the plot about how she somehow had a little sister she didn't know who her husband was actually in love was something I could accept. But then how the husband drugged her and literally had one of her organs harvested and implanted into her younger sister? That felt like a bit much to me.

Great story. I recommend it for those who like "original protagonist bashing" (or whatever it's called). I really like how it explores the aftereffects of the system.

Spoiler

The ending is kind of bittersweet because the family will likely never have as close a relationship again after what the system made the brother and father do.

As story stretched I stopped reading every word and just skimmed.. kinda got annoyed at how they kept skirting around the bush for their relationship... I know it complicates things since MC had a kid and is inters*x but like brov... At least just let folks know your married to each other x.x

I will say the drama and writing in the first 100 or so chapters for MC and his background and interaction with his family did leave me with tears in my eyes constantly tho. So. Good writting on... more>> the authors part. <<less

It becomes quite slow at certain parts but it's an ok light read. I think the only aspect of this novel that I would complain about is the very one dimensional villains.

Overall this story is okay, but I agree with Qwexx, a lot part is really not important, I struggle a bit when it comes to our MC job, its boring really.

ML and MC ways of falling in love, when, how is a bit confusing, but I do can see it. I'm okay with their romance.

Well, actually I'm hoping to see more of their interaction with their child, its there indeed, but also doesnt feel like it haha.

To be honest, the story is only exciting with a roller coaster emotions in... more>> the beginning. But after, its suddenly so umm how to say so calm, its basically no more.

Spoiler

I'm hoping for at least anything like the conclusion of that time when MC wearing wig and pregnant and go to his husband company. Idk if I miss it, but after knowing ML and MC is married, there is no one who question that. Jeez

[collapse]

Overall is okay. About MC family... well I can't really say much. The author dig a pit of making certain character villain to the extreme, then suddenly that villain is pitiful to the extreme, get what I mean?

I also hope the translator can clarify (?) what chapter it is, since s/he split the chapter, it took a while for me to find what chapter it is when I want to MTL.

I havent read the extra, idk I dont feel like it. If its only gonna be about his career then I will pass. <<less

This is simply lovely. It's a wonderful novel and I'm very satisfied.

It starts as a tragedy. Everything's an angst fest where the MC's a disabled that gets laughed/joked about. It's absolutely heartbreaking to be in his position because the people that he loved the most betrayed him. Ouch, right?

And then the ML. Truth be told, I was looking at him with questionnable eyes (like this 👉😒) at the beginning since he was kinda cold to the MC, but then I realized that it was a normal thing since they were... more>> just strangers at that time 😂. It was silly of me and I'm really sorry about that. And then I love everything that happens next because it was just beautiful. That's all I gotta say. It was beautiful.

Spoiler

But I f*cking cried when the MC was kidnapped, holy shit. When he was already accepting that he was going to die, my heart was breaking. When he was rescued by the ML and the MC said "The moon is beautiful tonight, " I f*cking cried because that was just too emotional.

I don't know what the translation for that sentence is in chinese but in japanese, this sentence can be associated to the words "I like you." So when the MC said "the moon is beautiful tonight" to the ML while the MC's all weak and so close to dying, I'm just clapping for Fu Zhen (the MC) because Fu Zhen found some courage, no matter how little, to somehow say something to the ML. (The kidnapping happened after the ML tries to act like strangers again with MC since the ML noticed the MC's feelings for himself). It was just a swirl of so many emotions and damn, I just love this novel.

Although I laughed when they confessed to each other lmao. I wanted to smack the ML, but I understand him too because majority of people would get nervous during confession scenes.

[collapse]

At first, I was reluctant to read this novel because I saw the "tragedy" tag and the summary pretty much declares what kind of tragedy it is. I do love a good emotional tragedy but I hope it's not all tragedy. Now, this novel is a good one because it's a novel about healing and redemption from the all the tragedy. The pacing is good, not too slow nor too fast. The characters are actually a bit rounded in their personalities.
Spoiler

It's just that their personalities and aspirations change due to the system's interference. When they get out of the puppet strings of the system, you can see how f*cked up they feel about what they've done. It was actually very sad.

[collapse]

Overall, I'll rate this a 4.85 / 5. Really recommended to read. <<less

Ive been reading a lot of novels and seriously, this just made me shed tears like they are falls 😭 the story starts very heavy. It's a tragedy. I honestly won't read it if I didn't know it is a HE.. Thankfully it is 😢

Well I also just want to point put some things I found rare personally..

1. Systems, usually ive read stories where the systems gave halo and stuff to MC and you know, all good staff and an automatic happy ever after. But this shows the opposite, and... more>> really which makes it more interesting to read.

2. MC falls in love first. Wahh it feels different when it is the MC sneaking a peek to the ML. It's sooo ahh I dont know the word but (´͈﹃ `͈) ~ ♡ (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄)

3. Best part for me was how it ends beautifully, love that they are all together at the end, and MC's family reunited ಢ_ಢ

4. Let's nit forgot their cute daughter wahh

anyway, there's still lots but I just gonna say, make sure you have tissues or anything to wipe your tears and snots when reading this (⋟﹏⋞)

thanks to the author for writing the story and thank you also to the translator, that I was able to read it in full (ノ^ꇴ^) ノ*✲゚*。⋆ <<less

Tbh I do not know why I kept reading. I guess I'm a sucker for angst / family issues. The writing is subpar, it really didn't engage me.. Especially in regards to the romance. I feel that the MC is a bit stale, I do appreciate that he works hard and doesn't immediately make rash decisions, but can't help and cringe in how he interacted with ML. MC just seems so meek - I'm surprised the author insisted that he doesn't look feminine or is of small stature cuz aside... more>> from his appearance, he's your typical maiden-in-distress bottom.

ML on the other hand doesn't seem to have a fixed character. He's unapproachable, cold and moody to suddenly becoming a pampering octopus the next. If I hadn't known that there was an original female lead in the novel-like world they live in, I would've thought the MC also had his own golden finger for romance. They just don't click for me.

Anyway, like the rest of the netizens in the novel - I finally woke up and questioned why I'm still reading this. <<less

I give the Story Quality a 3/5 and the Entertainment Value a 3/5 too.

When it comes to the plot, the quality of the story is nothing different from most other webnovels. The premise is quite interesting, but none of the characters are fully fleshed-out or well-handled until the end.

Main Characters

Spoiler

The MC is probably the most well-developed character in the story, which is not really saying something considering how one-dimensional the other characters are. We get a view of his past and his personality now. The problem is that's the only thing we get when it comes to developing him as a character. We don't get a clear view of how he was as a person before Tang WanWan, the FL, ruined his life. Therefore, we don't see how much the FL's actions changed him as a person. All we know is that he used to be close to his father and brother but became alienated from and scared of them after the FL framed him. We are TOLD that he used to be arrogant, but we are never SHOWN that. Thus, we don't really care that his pride was slowly grinded down by the two years of hardship, because that pride was never well-established in our consciousness. We aren't shown if he was happy, shy, or whatever before the FL came, and therefore the story misses the chance to accentuate the tragedy he experienced by showing us how much the bad things fundamentally changed him.

It's just very disappointing, honestly. The first few chapters were good, but then the story became EXTREMELY boring because it went from a character-driven drama about a tragic young man finding love and creating a happy family to a boring list of movies that the reader doesn't care about and a revolving door of characters that the reader still doesn't care about. I only read the Horror Movie Arc halfway through before I started just skimming the story and skipping some parts. The only reason I continued this was because I wanted to see what dogblood karmaic plot would unfold after Qin Zhao gets his love for FL back.

To be honest, this story should have cut everything past the White Castle Movie Arc, and after that it should have focused on the characters more. The other movies the MC makes and their filming process can be brought up now and again, but the story should show how type of stories he choose to tell story is linked with MC's state of mind, not that "Oh, he's making his own horror movie because he wasn't scared by this one horror he watched", it should show how MC struggles with his knew life and the fear he has that one day, the ML and those close to him will ALSO turn against him like his father and brother did. It should show how the MC and ML's pasts affect their views on being a family and parent, and how it affects their way of raising their daughter. Then, it should have flesh out the ML more. Because we know NOTHING about him. He's a cold mercenary who was born from one of China's most powerful families. That's it. That's the character. He has no hobbies or likes (he works at the company, but considering how he insisted on being a mercenary before, it's safe to say he's only working now for the sake of the MC and their new family). He has no meaningful interaction with other people where the conversation doesn't revolve around the MC. It's ridiculous how many MLs are written like him: Cold Young Master is Only Sweet To MC and MC is Literally Their Only Reason For Existing Despite the Presence of Other Characters Who Cares For ML Greatly.

We don't even know why he chose to become a mercenary. Did he want to run away from the pressures of his family? Why did he come back to China? Is it only for the mission? Why does the death of one construction worker harbor the interest of a mercenary group? We know NOTHING. His character can be replaced by a fighting robot who only speaks to MC and NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

[collapse]

Side Characters

Spoiler

There's nothing much to say. The side villains are all one-note, one-dimensional cannonfodders destined to die for the crime of losing their braincells so that the audience can feel that the MC is facing troubles instead of seeing him for the post-tragedyMary Sue that he is.

Other side characters are, well, just as one-dimensional as the other characters. Why did ML's father take MC back to the house? No one knows. Why does MC's brother never seem to harbor hate for MC despite him being an illegitimate child who their father treasures more? No one knows, maybe his father and mother told him not to and so he just didn't. The FL's system thing is quite a unique premise, but it's not really developed to the point where the story written around it feels real or vivid. Everyone and everything is one-dimensional and surface-level.

[collapse]

I really did enjoy it very much in the beginning. Face-slapping novels have their own charm. Sadly, it became a boring mess in the end and the only reason I didn't drop it immediately was the dogblood drama of the FL and not because of the one-dimensional, poorly-written main pairing. <<less

At first, I really want to drop this novel because I was hella confused about what was happening, why did MC's father abandon his son, Fu Zhen, the reasons why they did that to him? Were they drugged or hypnotized by the FL?

MC's father and brother finally woke up from the nightmare after the FL got married, it was around chapter 80+ or something.

All I can say is that the FL and system really f*cked up everyone's life.

MC and ML are both loveable characters, lack of much dialogue did indeed made me restless and the passage of time was fast but it didn't in any way made the story dull, While the family of MC did make me feel very sad and bad for them but it didn't change the fact that they were also easily controlled and then suddenly who knows how they remembered their feelings, No explanation on these parts? That's ok too, They did have some or maybe much effect on MC but the... more>> MC is strong, kind, shy, and at the same time headstrong child, He is a character full of liveliness just that the author did him an injustice, I don't care if the Sister of MC was a protagonist or not but the author of the novel shouldn't unjustly throw their characters life around without them knowing.

The best thing was the ML in our MC's life btw his love matters are not something we can understand.

ML's family is also nice and caring. Actually, if we ignore the existence of the lack of the author's explanation about the mysterious powers of some damn system or whatnot, The story can be thought of as quite realistic from EQ matters.

The human heart is a tragedy of old times, no one can understand it clearly. The author did a great job in showing the emotional changes and hardships in dark times on one's life, Quite inspiring if I say.

The story overall is very good and beautiful. <<less

So cute I read the MTL and it gets really SOL at the end but all their interactive are very cute. I even love the side looks at the lives of side characters viewing the couple from the outside. So cute. Although they do seem to slightly just give their child to the grandparents? So little child/parent interaction. T.T

basically it's about the aftermath of a system story. What happened to the replaced son when a system-clad daughter arrives.

No, the girl was not good in so many ways, she basically agreed to the system so she could snatch the happiness away from a perfectly normal (def. Rich) and happy family.

The novel mainly shows how everyone affected by the system woke up and finally realized that they have lost what's truly precious and did something completely irreparable.

The plot is okay, sometimes, it made you cry. Although sometimes u cant understand the meaning (well, maybe bcause I use mtl) especially the plot for movie that MC shot. But, overall, everything is passable.

Btw, IMHO, the title for this novel is a bit off. Not suitable.

A lot of fluff. The beginning is pretty painful for how down in the dumps MC is, but after the female tr*sh's wedding his happiness starts increasing exponentially. This mainly turns into a lot of showbiz style scenes about the movies he's directed along with a lot of scenes between ML and him. A little bland, but very much so a turn off your brain and enjoy sort of story.

mild spoilers ahead I was reviewing as I read the last half so I couldn't help but spoil a bit. big spoilers under spoilers tag

It took a while to get to the pregnancy part I honestly thought it'd be sooner but that's probably because of how the chapters are split it feel longer but in reality it was short. Like they only knew each other a month or so before they got together and discovered the pregnancy but for me reading it, it felt longer. The way they dealt with... more>> the pregnancy was good, realistic and even threw in a bit of cross dressing so FZ could still go out without getting weird looks. I'm just a little disappointed the baby is a small figure in the story, I want more family time and cute baby moments not just seeing FZ be a director (also I realized part way he's forgotten about the anime he was so focused on) or for JHS to try to make it a two person world (haha why have a kid when you're so obsessed with your wife then 😭 despite his promise to raise the baby even when he thought it was a stranger's he doesn't want her to take over or have siblings). They foist that poor baby on their parents or to the nanny, what happened to promising to raise the child TwT still it's good to see him step back on to the path of life he should have had. While sometimes reading about them working was boring, I did cackle over the fans creativity and how close they'd get to the truth when they enjoyed their rpf. I was soooo sad whenever I read the parts of FZ seeing his dad and brother and feeling heartbreak, and then the reversal was even worse because you realize they had not choice in the matter it was TWW's gold finger/system that forced them to it wasn't even like mind control suggestion where they did have some control but full on brainwashing. They did their best to respect and support FZ from afar after he made his choice to go no contact and not accept apologies, so seeing the slowly but surely start to reconcile was like a sweet candy after pain.

I honestly started to feel bad for TWW, she's an awful greedy person but I also believe the system had some form of manipulation because of one line where it said she was always meant to rise as a starlet and gain the love of her life (or something along those lines) but the system seemed to fast track it at a price. Anyways I was cheering for her karma up until
Spoiler

her husband drügged her, forced her to donate organs to his mistress/her sister and caused TWW miscarriage/infertility. Like im all for comeuppance but that was way too far.

FZ interacting with a system hmmm 🤨 I don't like it much. TWW her system made me reluctant to trust but since they're mainly fixing crooked systems damages it's fine but meeting was a bit pointless in the end at least for FZ side. The side effects it did to TWW side was... interesting very dogblood on that end. I pity their child though much like FZ baby that child is barely mentioned almost their misery

[collapse]

I do gotta say the translation can be a bit messy/clunky in some spots but overall understandable. Doesn't detract from the overall experience. I'm not sure if it was the site it was posted on or my internet but the links to the next chapter didn't always work and I'd have to go to NU to get to it. Or they just wouldn't be linked at all (the TOC on site is not updated) <<less
