If you could redo a failed life, would you love the same person again?

I am Masahito Arisugawa, a pianist and violinist.

My wife, Miyako, is a world-renowned violinist—a figure who, to me, was always beyond reach.

As a musician, I’m second-rate at best. Yet, I believed I had found my own version of happiness. At least, I thought so—until that day.

On the day I turned 41, my wife Miyako left, taking our only daughter with her.

There had always been someone Miyako admired from her student days—Sousuke Mikami.

When she found out that he had divorced, she couldn’t sit still. She took our daughter, Saki, and left to chase after him.

Realizing Miyako’s true feelings, I drowned myself in alcohol, despite not being able to handle strong drinks. Lost in despair, I succumbed to acute alcohol poisoning and blacked out.

I thought I had died, but when I awoke, I found myself as a 15-year-old again.

No, that’s not quite accurate—I hadn’t just returned to my younger self; I had time-slipped 25 years into the past.

In other words, I had time-leaped.

Before me stretched the world of my first year in high school.

At my newly entered school, there were familiar faces from long ago—and a youthful, fresh Miyako.

But in this world, I resolved not to get involved with her.

(I won’t let myself end up with Miyako. That’s the only thing I’ll change. Nothing else.)

I only wished to lead a peaceful life.

However, when I unconsciously saved the life of Sachiko Kazami, the flow of time around me—what should have been the same as 25 years ago—began to shift into something entirely different…

Alright, I had to drop it—not because it was offensive or anything, it just didn’t match my taste. I’ll admit that openly, and that’s why I won’t leave any harsh comments.

The translation is absolutely phenomenal. I’ve been deeply impressed by what this studio has been doing for quite some time now. Honestly, the way most of these works are introduced is simply brilliant. One of the best I’ve ever seen—and I’ve seen a lot. My first choice when it comes to romances.

But back to the story itself. I had a... more>> huge issue with the main character, who felt like a parody of a human being in his first life. And after the regression? Still a parody. There’s perfect consistency here. He was a simp in round one, and he’s still a simp in round two. He’s a 40-year-old dense teenager who can’t read the emotions of high schoolers.

And the whole "inferiority complex"? That really got to me. When someone is an absolute beast in a certain field but doesn’t feel like it because they lack a proper frame of reference? That defies all logic—and how human psychology actually works. It was hard to relate to. I forced myself through several chapters, but when I saw that the plot started going in really strange directions, I gave up.

What really turned me off was the introduction of the “correction” concept and how the MC actively tries not to change anything in the new timeline. That’s just... frustrating.

Look, I knew going in that this was based on regression, so I didn’t expect hard realism or airtight logic. But still — it’s a high school romance. A bit of common sense wouldn’t hurt.

And honestly, the MC’s thought process is so painfully detached from reality it hurts to read.

That said, the writing is fantastic. It flows really well, and I totally believe there are readers who’ll absolutely love this series. From my perspective though, it feels like the author is trying to add depth to something that doesn’t really need it — like he’s overdoing it just for the sake of being profound.

And I’m not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing. Like I said, I’m sure this will click with a lot of people. But if you’re not into weak MCs and heavy inconsistencies in logic, this probably isn’t for you.

However — if you’re into a lot of drama, then yeah, this could totally be your thing.

And by the time you hit chapter 60, you can't call it a romance. <<less

The MC is a simp, an overly naive, overly kind, spineless pushover, he dies of despair because his wife leaves him for another man and takes his kid with her. The kid doesn’t like him because he’s mediocre. On top of that he spends his life feeling inferior because he was playing second fiddle to his wife’s accomplishments. He travels to the past, then rehashes his past. He finds out his wife is a manipulative b*tch, who decided to crush his talent because of jealousy. She spent her entire life... more>> stringing him along and he’s too much of a loser to cut her out of his life. He keeps kissing his wife’s ass even though the whole premise is a new start. He says he isn’t going to join the club, he joins the club, he says he isn’t going to accompany his wife, he does it. He’s a moron that wastes his new chance. There’s a whole chapter where the MC glorifies his wife saying she wouldn’t cheat on him, how naive is he. She spent long times in a different country where the guy his wife likes was based. As soon as the guy divorces his wife she divorces the MC. Let’s be honest the kid probably isn’t his and he’s been cucked his entire life, but he’s too much of a pathetic loser to think things through clearly, there’s countless revelations of how bad his wife is but he ignores them because he’s in love with her even after saying he wouldn’t be with her in this new start. <<less

First, the translation is really smooth and the inclusion of musics played in the novel is a nice touch.

About the story, let's see... the beginning was good. In order to escape a failed life, he tries to explore other things and all. I really appreciated that the main character was more "mature" and level-headed than the rest of the teenagers (you know, to analyze what went wrong AND not repeat the pasts mistakes). But all was going downhill in the middle:

    • The mature side regressed to something more like a teenager. The consequences? Well, the story rocks him and he makes questionnable decisions
    • The more we learn about his past, the more naive he appears, naive about his "oh so great wife", about his career,... even the side characters have to point things to him in order for him to realise that something is wrong (when he is supposed to be older, more experienced in music and all)
    • What really interested me at the beginning was the quote "finally I will be free". A cry from the soul, something like a guiding light to not repeat what went wrong. The results? He is still glued to his ex wife who still see him like a convenient tool (I did not say he shouldn't do that, but if he wants to make her fall for him, he has to at least try to do something to change her mind. Here, he is doing absolutly nothing), he is still the convenient "yes man" that he always was, just that now he is not only rolled around by his ex wife but every god damn teenager
Well, I guess that trying to change the habits developed in 25 years of life might be difficult, but trying to not fall into the same trap should be a priority...

Surprisingly good in my read list. MC, as the novel title suggest, does not want to redo a failed marriage/family so from the time leap or as Inoue said reincarnation, MC is trying his best to not make involve in last ex wife- now a 15yr old girl. Fortunately, confession scene was not happen and from there he completely cut ties his shadow from her side.

Man, its not yet confirmed (coz theres no chapter where miyako directly said it) but as Kazami (bff or what of miyako) explained to MC that Miyako befriended him /accompany/ to hold his immense talent in violin where MC sure a great one. Yes, looks like a crab mentality to make him giveup violin and focuses on piano as Miyako suggest/gaslighted in the past life.

Miyako knew MC has a real talent to make her a mediocre one in violin so she stopped that thru manipulating MC from the beginning which is the worst info to have after first life. Yeah, time to focus on Kazami to help her build violinist career.

Kazami's existence is the first ripple in history after MC redo.

it's really good so far. The MC behaves like an actual adult and doesn't regress in personality like the usual japanese time leap/reincarnation novels.

he also have normal fears toward the unexplained nature of his time leap phenomenon. Remaining relatively rational and logical throughout.

the translation quality is great and seems to be keeping up with the raws. Would recommend!

edit:

going downhill as of ch 76. Author made him as if he's regressed in age. He really doesn't act like someone in their 40. Baffling how his teenage friend is wiser than him in some aspects <<less

This one is really good so far. I’m liking the buildup and direction of the story. The groundwork being laid by the author is already visible and so far out ML’s actions seem to fir him perfectly. Without spoiling too much, it’s obviously something supernatural that has happened to cause him to regress in time, and it’s cool that he meets someone who learns that fact. Can’t wait to see where this heads next.

An interesting regression story, not blazing ahead using the abilities and memories from the previous iteration but simply trying to walk a different path.

If I had to offer any complaint, it's that the protagonist overreacts to his influence on the past - even if he changed his mind and tried to replicate his previous role, he wouldn't be able to, so obviously there will be changes.

I found it downright annoying that his first reaction to coincidentally saving a life was "but what if there's a 'corrective force'?"

If there was a corrective force that undoes all your effort, it's not going to get worse even if you put in effort, even if such a thing as fate or predestination exists. Putting aside that there's been absolutely zero indication of that. In either case, forces outside your control and perception should also remain outside your consideration for your actions. You can't tell which direction they're going to go, and you can't change it either, so why bother worrying?

The biggest threat of causing the story to go back to its original course is the MC not getting over himself.

So anyway, the author clearly knows more about music than philosophy (or at the very least, the characters do), and that issue aside it reads as a somewhat normal but entertaining youth story about some talented musicians, told from the perspective of an adult with the respective skill and composure, but the self-confidence of a failed musician with RSI. <<less
