Reincarnated Chu Qing never wanted to become a superstar. He had only two simple wishes in life:

To marry an ordinary wife who truly loves him and live a stable, peaceful life.

To quietly amass wealth.

Unfortunately, both of these dreams were destined to be shattered.

Fame as a celebrated writer, poet, king of pop, multiple-time movie and television emperor, and box office legend was inexplicably thrust upon him, completely destroying his plans.

“What? I’m a superstar?”

“What? Another award in Berlin? Not going.”

“An excuse? What excuse? Oh, I’ll say my stomach hurts that day. No way I can make it…”

Had to give this one up. The premise was entertaining at first and most of the characters are reasonably attractive---Sky3Fall, I hate to break it to you but you are not the protagonist of the book so you don't need to take every item of unreasonable behaviour so personally... Moreover, even if they aren't particularly effective, it is worth remembering that episodes inserted for comedic effect often have an exaggerated aspect to them: the characters are not real people and so might occasionally behave larger than life... You will enjoy... more>> reading much more once you learn this...---but there was just a little too much indulgence in the protagonist's inferiority to stomach. This causes an imbalance in tone---does the writer want to make comedy or a serious emotional drama? As a result the effectiveness of the comedic episodes is compromised while the apparently serious episodes are a little nauseating; I wretched at the 'we are not from the same world' and was obliged to drop the novel. <<less

So I'm 18 chapters in and I already want to strangle half of the characters. The director person lies to and scams the MC, treats him like a s*ave, spreads false rumors about him, and then has the gall to say "tons of people would love to be in your position, why can't you understand my kindness?" I wanted so much to reach through the screen and choke him right there.

The actress lady constantly bullies the MC, treats him like shit, is completely unprofessional, doesn't give a single whit that... more>> she might cause the MC to break his contract, and when the MC protests she threatens to break his bones and send him to the hospital and implies that even if she does so, she has connections with the police that will get him arrested and not her.

I understand that it's supposed to be comedic, so maybe once I calm down I'll find it funny, but right now this just isn't it.

Edit: One of the director's friends warns him not to go too far, and my reaction was that there's finally a reasonable character! And then! And then the director person f*cking admits out loud that what he's doing is unethical because "oh, MC has talent so I'm going to force him into the entertainment industry against his will" like wtf??? If the storyline was that a string of misunderstandings push the MC into being a star, I'd be fine with it, but multiple evil characters (who the story treats as good) doing the pushing just feels really bad. Just fck free will right? Edit 2: Oh my fkn god literally everyone treats the MC like shit. The manager lady admits to the second director that she just doesn't like the way the MC's face looks so she treats him like a s*ave, and the second director Luo Yu is just like "girl, you a tsundere" like hello? This is supposed to be funny? Your employee just said to your face that she's mistreating one of your actors just 'cause and you don't have a single doubt about her professionalism? If she could do this to someone she doesn't like, she could also ruin a product by glazing someone she does like. I'm just so mad right now and the only reason I'm reading on is because I'm hoping to see the MC snap and shoot up the city. 3 stars is too high. I wish I could go back and make it lower.

Edit 3, Chapter 40: I can't believe that this novel of all novels got me to make a third edit out of sheer annoyance. That investor lady Wang Ying needs to jump off a cliff and die. She is the worst example of a tsundere, the kind that hates everyone because she's emotionally constipated and doesn't have the self-awareness to admit it. The instant the MC achieves some minor success, she's the first person to run up and put him down and even goes so far as to fire the actor lady that the MC became "friends" with (friends is in quotes because the only reason MC puts up with her is because of intimidation) because, I assume, she doesn't want him to have anyone close to him.

Edit 4, Chapter 42: The MC develops Stockholm syndrome for the actress Zhao Ying. How? Why? Bro you only got to know her because she literally threatened to ruin your life if you didn't! I've read many tr*sh novels, but this is the first one that makes me want to call the police on the author because if this is what they consider a healthy relationship, I don't want to know how they treat their own friends and family.

Edit 5, Chapter 45: Wang Ying says, "Do you hate me? If you don't hate me, then why do you keep avoiding me? Do I look that terrifying to you?" She then thinks about how the MC's presence brings her warmth. Girl, you treated him like absolute garbage the whole time he was working for you. It would be a miracle if he didn't hate you! Then you say you enjoyed his presence? If the very next chapter revealed that she has no friends and her family are all distant, I would finally think the author wrote something logical! How the hell would she get any friends if she treats every person she enjoys being with like she treated the MC? Edit 6, Chapter 47: If Wang Ying has a million haters, then I am one of them. If Wang Ying has ten haters, then I am one of them. If Wang Ying has only one hater then that is me. If Wang Ying has no haters, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is supporting Wang Ying, then I am against the world.

Edit 7, Chapter 127: I'm happy that I stuck through the infuriating parts because it stops being infuriating after around chapter 50 to 60 and finally becomes more comedic. I think it's because the MC is no longer a nobody that everyone can push around without consequences, so the MC getting into misfortune after misfortune no longer feels suffocating. Would probably bump the rating to 3.5 stars. Would give 4, my score for ok novels, but the first section really drags it down.

Edit 8, Chapter 156: Wang Ying keeps dragging the story down.

Edit 9: Chapter 162: The "people making sh1t up" arc is a bit annoying.

Edit 10, Chapter 189: Wang Ying wtf??? You choose the MC's assistant, the person who will work more closely with the MC than literally anyone and be responsible for basically the MC's professional career; your reason for choosing who you chose for this position is not because of qualifications or reputation or anything, but because she's ugly and thus less likely to compete with you for the MC's heart? What the fk?!?!

Edit 11, Chapter 205: everyone's names suddenly changed and I have no clue why. Also, Chapter 204 seems to be from a different novel entirely.

Edit 12, Chapter 367: the "lying to MC is funny" stuff is really becoming unfunny, especially when he gets hurt as a result and then doesn't proceed to get upset.

Edit 13, Chapter 413: I'm actually really liking the depression arc. The MC is growing and changing over time, and sometimes those changes aren't always positive. He stays in a depressed mindset to better portray a depressed character for too long, inevitably there's some bleed over. I'm waiting to see how this arc is resolved, but if it's done well then kudos to the author. <<less

They forgot to add the 'comedy' tag on genre, so I added it myself. I also added the 'naive protagonist' tag.

Why am I telling this as if it's a great achievement? Because this is the first time I did these things. Not putting the comedy tag for this novel is simply a crime. And the protagonist is naive and very adorable. It's been a long time since I laughed this hard while reading a novel. And I almost always smile while going from chapter to chapter.

Read this. It's great. It's... more>> comedy. Don't get hard-bent on logic or whatnot. Just enjoy it for what it is. Have fun. <<less

A pushover, who only wants an ordinary life, is being thrown into the entertainment industry of Piranhas, as people refuse to let his hidden talent/potential go to waste in the entertainment industry using any means. As long as he is getting paid, he is fine going with the flow.

It is not a bad read to past the time, but is missing that extra something to make it a good read.
