Disclaimer: I'm the translator.

TL;DR: The cover art misrepresents the story, this isn't an ecchi. New spin on an old novel type, with twists that are unique to it. Now onto my rant on why I think this is an s-tier novel.

Please note, as highlighted by @Galacta_Knight, these are "traditional" yanderes. They are mentally deranged, and give zero shits about anything, but their own screwed perception of "love" and are willing to do anything to have the MC solely to themselves as well as to fulfill their own selfish desires related... more>> to him. The tomboy, Iri, does actually try to fight her fledging yandere tendencies by denying her love and pushing the MC away, so using totally sane yandere logic she pairs him with a girl he might like so she doesn't have to face her feelings. The MC is scared of them (potential mu*derers, kidnappers, etc.), so he is pretty wimpy when it comes to them because he's afraid that he's going to end up with a bad ending if he tries to push them away because their yandere tendencies will get stronger. If none of this sounds like your jam or doesn't sound fun to you, I can get why you might not like this novel.

The cover art does an excellent job of misrepresenting the story. This isn't an ecchi, it's not smut. This isn't R19 on Novelpia. This is story for the sake of story. Go read your p*rn elsewhere. This is for yandere (and harem) enjoyers. If you don't like that, you don't like the entire premise of this story ALSO go elsewhere. Surprisingly little regret and trauma thus far beyond one of the heroine's backstories which is only mentioned briefly so, if you're not into that you'll be fine here. Few misunderstandings despite the tag. Love Chain, the game he's in, is somewhat based off DDLC.

I'm legitimately enjoying this story. I only translate stories I enjoy, so if I were to stop I would either (a) drop it entirely or (b) pass it on to someone else so please know everything I say in this review is what I believe to be true, despite my disclaimer and if you disagree I encourage you to write one countering my points with your own honest rating.

This is a super character-centric story that spends a lot of time developing interesting relations where the characters go beyond their archetypes (mean flat-chested childhood best friend, nice voluptuous blond ojou-sama, etc.) and seeks to allow them to compel the plot without protagonist's correction and other BS like that. This man is going around flag-breaking like mad, trying to keep him and his family alive before his sister can off him, as well as trying to prevent the love-crazed yandere's from falling for him while he does this.

c98 update: it only gets better.

Spoiler

God, the depth only increases as the chapters progress. I'm on 98 now, and the story acknowledges something super awesome I've never considered before. Generally, when you play a DDLC -like game, the goal is to get the heroine of your choice, right? Fair enough, raise affection as you please. But, what if you have affection with... every heroine? What if they all like you for some reason? How'd that come to be? Do you really think life is that easy, women falling into your lap for almost no reason? This isn't JP. Do you think harems are made unintentionally, you dullard? Let's take a look at our story's current antagonist... Sunwoo aka the original protagonist. This man intentionally kept women on the hook using his good looks and cunning, giving out just enough affection to think they had a chance, only to go flirt with other women. No wonder the heroine's eventually snapped and became yandere. Realizing this BS, Taeyang, our protagonist, is breaking every flag. No one's ending up with this slimy bastard.

[collapse]

I think he does this fairy well (this is a harem, they're going to end up with him, but the author does a damn good job of making it seem like its not his fault most of the time), so I'd definitely classify him as one of the more intelligent protags on this site. He can be an alpha sometimes, knows when to tell people to f-off, but he's not a pure wall of adamantium manliness so he will give in sometimes for the sake of flag-breaking, as well as, for the sake of the people involved. After all, he sees them as real people because he has actually known some of them for his entire life. His past-life was remembered in a dream one night, just before the start of the game, and he's forgotten some stuff. That means, no perfect memory to recall every individual detail, and he actually does admit this.

Since his memories have been refreshed rather recently though, the first thing he does is write everything in a journal so he can keep his memories clear. Smart protag point there, good job author. Perfect memory recall genuinely annoys me. My picture of the protag is that of Haganai's protagonist based upon the author's description.

Now onto the heroine's. Like I said, archetypes. Well-developed archetypes, I'd argue, but they are DESIGNED to be yandere and archetypal, by God (game devs) so if you're uncomfortable with the usual characters you'd seen in games like DDLC, this isn't for you. Oh, wait no before I forget, let's mention the superpowers. There are stages of yandere in this story, and as their obsession progresses the more powerful they become. As of around chapter 60, where I'm currently at, only one girl's has been revealed, but they all have them. These are a pretty interesting aspect for me, never seen this done before, and their powers help their yandere-ness. I'm pretty sure this story passes the Bechdel test, character's seem fleshed out in their relationship with the protag AND other people. They don't just talk to him and other harem members. They, of course, are all EXTREMELY attractive, per the genre.

Plot's there and relatively unique I think. Don't see a whole lot of flag-breaking yandere, harem, intelligent protagonist novels, do you? Well, if you do, leave me a comment on the site, I'm all for those. I'm not going to get too deep into it, but this is genuinely a slowburn. Waits for events to happen and prepares for them. He is an extra, so he does his best with what he can. I'd like to finish the review here, because I'm REALLY just ranting at this point, but yeah. I highly recommend it. <<less

The story is truly wonderful series. You will laugh and feel horrified because of the unexpected twist and turn of events, lol.

Our MC is destined to die by the hands of his beloved sister Hayan, so he is trying is best to topple down all of the events that could lead for his death.

However, as it turns out, he is walking in the harsh reality that he must twist the fate of his life on his favor. The chance of survival is pretty slim, and his plans always backfires because... more>> of the unforeseen outcomes and interruptions of other heroies like Yoongyoung.

So far so good, it is a harem ending. MC is destined to replace the role of Sunwoo, for better and worse, lol. <<less

This novel infuriates me and its really unfortunate since there a few things I like in here. All the heroines are extremely selfish and inconsiderate. Which does make sense because theyre yanderes but it doesnt make it fun to read. For example they just arbitrarily decide things about the MC that arent true and act on them. MC sister decides the MC likes the rich girl and awkwardly tries to force them together even though the MC doesnt really like her. Also in that same scene she asks the MC... more>> and rich girl their types and the MC says he doesnt like clingy girls and she tells him to stop lying. Tomboy decides that the MC likes the classmate that he cut off and tries to awkwardly pair them too. They never ask what he wants and only hollowly apologize after when their wrong. When he cuts off the classmate she gets invited to the study session and he gets put on blast and gets asked why he cut her off. Plus the classmate just sucks. She gets too close and the MC tells her to get away only for her to get closer afterward. She follows him when he denies weekend plans, she then calls him names at his house, she then goes to his room to talk and forcefully reads his diary when the MC told her not too. She did get called out by the tomboy for her obsessive behavior after demanding that he goes and plays soccer (this was right after the tomboy spent the entire day trying to get the classmate and the MC together.)

Even worse though is how nearly every heroine treats the MC like he still wears diapers. They constantly tease and make fun of him and keep determining his opinion as irrelevent and make their own assumptions instead. At one point he gets lifted up into a heroines lap to take pictures like hes a child taking a photo with santa claus. Another time he wins a contest and got a cake, he then decides to send it to the suicidal heroine but his sister acts like a baby when she didnt get it. So the MC says he'll do anything to make her feel better and she dresses him up in a bear costume and against the MC wishes she posts pictures of it online where everyone sees it.

These heroines suck, the only good one is the rich girl and thats only because she barely shows up. Her ending that the MC describes is just as scary as all the other heroines though so when she gets more spotlight I do not doubt she will show her more unpleasent colors.

As for the MC himself, hes passable. He tries to set boundaries but they always get ignored. Hes mentally weak which just makes the heroines mock him more. I honestly feel bad for him. His sisters ending with the original MC includes killing her entire family so his sister is an actual threat that I cannot possibly find endearing. The other heroines are just disgusting sadists with other ending including being abducted to an island, having a heroine kill all the other ones or killing herself, pushing the MC off a building so they can keep them bed bound. I truly cannot see a good ending for the MC because the heroines are evil and jealous beings that will inevitably fall in love with him and its far to easy for the heroines to walk all over him.

Tranlation is really good btw. <<less

I don't know what possessed me to read this until the end even through MTL but here I am. The first half of the story is pretty enjoyable but nothing memorable and the second half being mostly bland with an anti-climatic ending. As someone who likes reading harem, the shuraba moments are enjoyable but most of the characters aren't that likeable in my opinion. The only one that I actually gave a sh*t about was the Menhera girl since her character is understandable given her situation and was the only... more>> one who actually had some meaningful character development. In addition, her reasons for being obsessed with the MC is completely within reason as MC actually did things that would gradually make her fall in love with him as opposed to the other girls who fell in love because of misunderstandings or a sudden boost in favorability because of one specific occurrence.

So yeah, interesting premise but needs more interesting characters to actually be considered good.

For my thoughts in how the story progressed, it can be divided into four parts.

The first part is "Interest and Curiosity" which got my interest through the premise and excited of the chaos that might unfold. There were chaos that got me entertained but the MCs method of avoiding the Yandere f*cking sucks, which is to always run away no matter how hard these girls chase him (which in turn makes them chase harder). Its understandable but it gets annoying since that is the only thing he does.

The second part is the "NTR phase", this is the most entertaining part of the novel since the MC is actively trying to steal the original protagonist's girls
Spoiler

because his personality is that of a s*umbag who keeps playing with the emotions of girls who love him to live a life like that of the typical dense harem protagonist even though he is completely aware of the honest feelings of his childhood friend towards him

[collapse]
. Pretty much the only time I'll see the MC in a positive light.

Third is the "Balancing phase" where more girls become obsessed with him and he accepts that it is now impossible to make the girls fall out of love with him. He tries to keep a certain distance from all of them since everyone else will go batsh*t crazy if he picks one while the girls are actively trying to bind him to them. This is the part where I got bored and infuriated because one of the girls is so obviously neglected and treated like crap for whatever reason.
Spoiler

And it is Lee Youyoung, at this point in the story the MC clearly cherishes all of the girls except for her. MC got angry at her because she revealed to the menhera girl that it was in fact the MC that was helping her all along because of the determination she saw in her eyes. So MC, as the as*hole that he is, decided to punish her and it is by ordering her to get rid of all her anime/otaku stuff or else he will abandon her. This girl of course is too far gone in her obsession so she complies but it broke her since otaku culture is a pretty big part of her life. MC did take back what he said after seeing the effect it had on her (more because of fear than worry the way I saw it) but doing what he did is still so f*ckED UP since he did that despite being fully aware of how much that hobby means to her.

[collapse]

Finally is the Harem phase where each girl gets a big moment with MC and convinces those close to them about their relationship.
Spoiler

So all girls became a part of his harem, yes including his sister and Lee Youyoung, who managed to squeeze into the harem by guilt tripping MC and is actually the reason the harem is possible because her Yandere power is too op. (I'm not joking she literally willed the world into thinking harems are common)

[collapse]
. There wasn't even any sneak peak of their life in the future, the story ended after everyone just accepted the harem. <<less

Might pick this up later, but it’s boring me for now and doesn’t look like it’ll change up soon.

This is one of those stories where the MC has little to no agency. He tries to break flags to ensure his safety, but ends up in even more stressful situations because of it, and this happens over and over. He’s also dense so the plot relies heavily on that trope.

So far there isn’t any plot, he just jumps from one heroine to the next trying to fix stuff. The story could... more>> have benefited by focusing on certain heroines and moving on to the next, but instead it’s just been meandering and the narrative suffers as a result.

It’s still early in the story so this could very well get better, but for now I rate this as mediocre. I had higher expectations given the score, so I’ll pick it up when there’s more chapter to see if it improves. <<less

TL;DR : It's a fun read

Our story starts in medias res, with our MC coming in to consciousness in the body of Kim Taeyang. In the first few chapters, we get some background on story that the MC knows from playing the game this world is based on. The MC is the 9th grade younger sibling of one of the game worlds yandere heroine's. As such he tries his best to survive because in his sister's ending his family dies to his noona's hands.

If you enjoy yandere stories then this... more>> one is a fun read. At chapter 31 we have 5 heroine's in the story and it's fun to read the different ways they interact with each other. Overall a solid 7/10 <<less

It’s simple and fun, don’t come in expecting complex story or the MC using smart strategies. Most of it is him trying to stop the flags but only making it worse or having not much effect at all. Honestly it doesn’t even seem like he properly understands Yandere with how he acts but I can sum it up to him being quite dense. It’s a harem Yandere story where the MC struggles to avoid the Yandere but fails so just enjoy it for what it is.
