Jiang Yaoyao is the daughter of the magistrate of Yangzhou County. She loves to laugh by nature. When she laughs, the two dimples on her cheeks are faintly visible, which can sweeten people’s hearts.

When she was fourteen years old, a handsome and tall man suddenly came to her house. She looked over curiously and met the man’s deep and dark eyes.

She was stunned and called out s*upidly, “Hello, uncle, my name is Yaoyao!”

Hearing her greeting, the cold and noble man suddenly pursed his lips and smiled, and in an instant, it was like a hundred flowers blooming, and his voice was mellow and hoarse, “Qin Huaijin.”

Jiang Yaoyao thought Qin Huaijin was a very difficult person to approach, but she didn’t expect that the man treated her very well. He would teach her to ride a horse and shoot arrows, and play some childish games with her.

When she was fifteen years old and came of age, she was a little sad, because she had been engaged and would be married soon.

But she didn’t expect that one month before the wedding, she ran into her husband-to-be having a tryst with a pregnant woman with a bulging belly.

She was shocked and lost her color. When she was hesitant and aggrieved, the rain poured down. She saw a tall figure holding an umbrella and walking towards her. The handsome man with a dignified temperament stretched out his hand to her with a gentle look in his eyes. “Don’t be afraid, Yaoyao, I’m here.”

Jiang Yaoyao finally couldn’t restrain herself. She held the man’s broad and warm hand and stumbled into his arms. Like a young animal that finally found its support, she sobbed softly, “Uncle…”

Male protagonist: Qin Ye, whose name is Huai Jin, was the emperor of the Great Zhou Dynasty. He was originally the ninth son of the emperor. He was brave and good at fighting and had been stationed at the border.

Once the palace changed, he suppressed the princes with his iron-blooded wrist and seized the throne!

After ascending the throne, in order to recuperate, he went to the water town in the south of the Yangtze River.

The first time he saw Jiang Yaoyao was on a pleasure boat.

The girl’s bright smile was like a beam of light that shone into his long-silent heart.

From then on, he took her under his wings, loved her, protected her, and cherished her.

Imperial Favor: A Sugar Rush for some... but an Annoying Headache for others (눈_눈)

Let's get one thing straight: if you're into teenage girls acting like oversized toddlers—crying every five minutes, pouting dramatically, and throwing tantrums like it's an Olympic sport—this novel might be your holy grail. (ʘ言ʘ╬)

But if you, like me, find that kind of behavior extremely irritating, you're in for a very bumpy ride.

The female lead: a masterpiece of annoyance (✧Д✧)

Spoiler

She's supposed to be 15, technically an adult in ancient China, but her maturity level? Think kindergarten on a bad day. She cries about everything. She sulks. She throws fits. And she constantly tries to be "adorably naive, " which translates into being clueless, clingy, and downright irritating. The novel markets her behavior as "selling cuteness" (meng), but honestly, it feels more like she's selling my patience—and I'm all out of stock.

The Male Lead: From Emperor to Babysitter (இ௦இ)

Spoiler

Then there's the male lead: a powerful emperor who apparently has nothing better to do than indulge his sugar baby's every whim. Forget running the empire—this guy's busy letting her play with his royal seal, mess up official documents, and run away from him in front of his ministers. Imagine the supreme ruler of a nation chasing after a tantrum-throwing teenager because she wants attention. It's absurd, embarrassing, and frankly, kind of hilarious—though not in the way the author intended.

Sweet Meets Sour and a Dash of Uncomfortable taboo (߬⚈ o⚈ꪷ)

Spoiler

The real issue with this novel is how it flirts with some deeply uncomfortable themes (like Ped*philia)

The female lead may technically be of age by ancient standards, but her behavior is so childlike that it's impossible to overlook the unsettling implications. There's a scene where she sits on the emperor's lap, swinging her legs and eating sweets, a very allusion of a child. But even though she behaves lime that, the story still shows s*exual and mature content. Since the Emperor asks her to "help" treat his uncomfortableness when he was excited. She, being as naive as a toddler, genuinely believes she's helping him "heal, " completely unaware of the more adult undertones of the situation.

This kind of dynamic mirrors certain cultural trends in modern Asian societies, where youthful, overly "cute" behavior in women is often celebrated. From girl bands with exaggeratedly childish personas to the cultural phenomenon of kawaii in Japan, aegyo in South Korea or meng in China, there's a clear emphasis on perpetuating this image of women as sweet, innocent, and almost childlike. While it might seem harmless in my opinion this is flirting with predatory behavior... maybe we can think that is only fictional and not judge the fans of this, but at least I think we need to see these behaviors with caution...

Sure, the novel also leans heavily on historical context to justify this dynamic—15-year-old girls were considered adults in ancient China—but that doesn't excuse the troubling power imbalance or the way it romanticizes naivety as an ideal. The male lead's behavior teeters dangerously close to predatory, and the female lead's childlike mentality makes it all the more unsettling.

The Plot: Secondhand Embarrassment ૮ ˙Ⱉ˙ ა rawr!

Spoiler

Aside from the uncomfortable relationship dynamics, the plot itself is laughably ridiculous. The emperor abandons his responsibilities to dote on this spoiled brat, who has zero awareness of how absurd her requests are. Running away in front of ministers? Playing with the royal seal? Complaining about non-issues while the fate of an empire hangs in the balance? It's like watching a national leader babysit a tantrum-prone child—and not in a good way.

Who's This Novel For?

If you enjoy emotionally immature, perpetually crying, and painfully naive characters, this story might be for you. But for me, Imperial Favor was a frustrating read. The female lead's constant whining, the emperor's enabling behavior, and the sheer ridiculousness of the plot left me rolling my eyes.

In short, this novel is a sugary mess for some or a mental breakdown for others that only left me with a headache. If you like childish drama, "adorable" tantrums, and a heavy dose of kawaii aesthetics, with slightly flirt with taboo behavior give it a go. ‎Unfortunately it's a nope for me ʕ◍·̀Ⱉ·́◍ʔ... <<less

When I read the review of Midori_13, I thought to myself that maybe let's give it the benefit of the doubt cause what if it's just not their type of story but no.

The whole time I was reading the story it's giving ✨white lotus ✨ like girl, it could have a spin-off story wherein one of the could be rebirthed or transmigrated and they would be counteracting the FMC cause the whole time. Like literally the whole time, she would complain then her problems could be solved.

Now, what I hate... more>> it about it is the implications of g*ooming, they only revealed ML age about half if not near the end of the story because of the birthday event. He was literally half her age and it was more creepy since the whole time the line 'he raised her himself' was repeated multiple times that it's getting creepier as the time goes.

Also, the fact that etiquettes were so importantly emphasize yet when it comes to FL it all becomes 'It's okay cause she's still a child.' Like yeah, at 15 she is but even around her is like the same age and they don't act like it. She's so spoiled to the point that it's okay if she act like her 7-year-old cousin. But the mere fact of her going to ML's house without supervision and her parents were all so trusting of him cause he's her 'Teacher' is so not it.

It happened so many times that I thought of if he weren't the ML it would be a dangerous story. Especially letting her sleep in ML's manor is not so courteous. I even find it creepy that she was built one in ML's manor in the capital and the parents did not find it alarming even though they are neighbours and she could go back and forth.

Also, the aching chest part, I'm not sure if it's even true, it didn't happen to me. So, I wondering if it happens to others🤔 still was, of course, sexualized despite her age. And I find it s*upid that she's reading an erot*c romance and she couldn't even get that ML is making a move on her ever since.

I guess, she's not naive and innocent but rather s*upid. <<less
