I have a good friend from junior high school, Hasegawa Aota, who is more popular than anyone else.

He is more popular than anyone else. And I’m his friend A, who supports him behind his back.

Friendship comes before love. That’s what I, Hayami Ren, am supposed to do.

I assist the hero, Aota, and the heroines who are in love with him, and get rid of those who get in the way. Although it is behind the scenes, it is essential in a romantic comedy.

All that’s left now is for Aota to just start dating someone…or so I thought. One day, a girl appears in front of me.

She is like a little devil and an angel.

It’s a beautiful junior student – Shiramine Hisui

The usual MC so thick it drags down the whole plot. Seems like it's going to be your typical harem where MC is convinced everyone is after his best-friend while they all throw themselves at him.

Normally I'd still give that a 2-3 stars if it's what you're into, but this one is particularly bad because it's so far beyond the suspension of disbelief it forms plot holes.

The FL is also annoying. She's of course a one of a kind beauty (because aren't they always), but she's supposed to be a... more>> bit mischievous/playful... but she's not. She's just extremely clingy, aggro at every girl MC talks to, and sulky whenever he's not paying attention to her. The author is trying to play her as mysterious because the MC doesn't remember her but she's obsessed with him. But her refusal to explain anything when asked just comes off as toxic.

    Spoiler

FL is a junior who asks him out to lunch and is all blushing and fidgety and he goes "I get it, I'll help you get close to my friend". Even though she is a new character, and has shown no interest or even awareness that the other friend exists. She has no history, and MC straight up does not know who she is. It'd be like if some stranger walked up to you on the street and you were like "Don't worry, I'll help you bang my friend". It's such an insane leap in reasoning.

Then the next plot point is MC is invited by a girl who has a crush on the friend and asked to bring him along. MC tries to do the "Oh, something came up, go on without me" and then tail them thing. Only the Junior girl shows up and follows along. But then the Junior girl gets angry when the MC goes off to help the other girl who gets separated. And MC is all apologetic about leaving her...

What? As far as he knows, Juinior girl also likes the other guy. Why is he not extremely confused why she's upset that he left her alone? Why is she treating it like a date when she wasn't even invited and MC's whole plan was to tail the others? It feels like there are entire chapters of development missing and neither the MC or main Heroine (so far) are making any sense.

Everything that's happening only makes sense if the MC is fully aware of her feelings, and they were actually on a date. But that's clearly not what's happening as again, MC is denser than a planet's core.
