Ning Buyi has transmigrated into a harem novel called 《The Imperial Prince’s Lover.》

The good news is she’s bound to a system and inherited a barren star; the bad news is that according to the upcoming plot, she’s about to be eliminated by the Crown Prince at their first meeting.

To save her life, Ning Buyi flees overnight, intending to stay away from the male and female leads. However, she discovers her soul is bound to the barren star’s surface, making escape impossible! When the star is deemed “dead” by the interstellar judges, she’ll be finished too!

The planet she owns is on the brink of death, having been declared “abandoned” twice, and now faces its final judgment.

Ning Buyi doesn’t want to die, so she can only diligently develop the planet.

When endless deserts become oases,

When extinct ancient creatures revive in this untrodden land,

When sleeping cities awaken here…

But bad news arrives – her planet might be chosen as a battlefield where humans, insects, and alien beasts will wage war.

Ning Buyi: “!!!”

Want to destroy her planet? Not a chance!

This story is somewhat cute, but the plot is very straightforward and secondary characters are either underdeveloped or one-dimensional. Also, romance is left relatively ambiguous for both the main leads and secondary relationships. Most interactions are a combination of blushes, hidden glances, and "deep smiles".

The main plot points are wrapped up in a satisfying way, but there are a lot of dangling plot threads left for everything else.

Technology is relatively underdeveloped throughout the story in spite of the fact that the setting is futuristic / interstellar, mostly... more>> limited to featuring mecha and robots. Society is similarly restricted to a setting that has more in common with a traditional historical empire than outer space.

Spoiler

There are women in some positions of power, but in human space men are primarily in charge. Arranged marriage is treated as normal by both the beast people and humans. For humans, apparently only the Emperor is allowed concubines, but this is never elaborated on. Human daughters are looked down upon as well, though this stays relatively implicit or baked-in to the setting.

s*avery and "war prizes" both exist in-universe. The main character explicitly takes invading soldiers and criminals prisoner and forces them into work camps.

At the very end of the story, there's a scene where a character is catfished by a man who she's been online dating as a woman. The man is wearing a pink dress only to turn around and have a full beard, still speaking in a feminine voice. It's clearly meant as a one-off joke, but is cringy at best.

[collapse]

Men in the story are portrayed in a way that is relatively unflattering, though nothing major. Mostly this is conveyed by pretty much all the major villains being male. Almost no one is reduced to a caricature based on gender stereotypes though.

Translation is decent, not a lot of issues with pronouns and such, though character names are a little bit inconsistent. The in-text translations are distracting, but that's the only really issue with it. <<less

There is no heavy drama, this novel is more about solving world crisis & developing a planet. No harem, no other original members of male lead harem falling in love with Ning Buyi, just Hua Zhouyu x Ning Buyi till the end.

Spoiler

Though they only confirmed their relationship after the dark pollution was completely exterminated, so you wont see Ning Buyi confess anytime until at the end of chapter. Before then...

, just subtle flirting with Hua Zhouyu going strong and Ning Buyi getting flustered and slowly opening up to her.

I recommend this immensely! The protagonist is not annoying and actually reacts pretty realistically to most things, not to mention being crafty. Though, I am more hooked on the love interest Hua Zhouyu more. The plot and settings are well-explained and the events are not dull. The moments between the two leads are very brief sometimes, but always nice to read.

Spoiler

She perhaps is even more cunning and her reputation as the most righteous as Chief Judge is really funny because we learn the harem novel was from the POV of a delusional protagonist. Way more morally ambiguous and becomes a cunning person to benefit Ning Buoyi more. The POV when it switches to the original male protagonist is also interesting because it shows the real thoughts behind him when Ning Buoyi thinks back to the plot points.

There's something about 'gardening in a new planet' trope that just gets to me in a good way, likely because I love survival/post-apocalyptic games genre. In my memory, this is the second gardening novel that I enjoy, the first being 'my omega is a little hot'.

There's plenty of world building here that's fun, but the author doesn't go too in depth about the difference races and all. The love story isn't the focal point of the story but somehow, it lingers underneath everything that is going on, like a heart... more>> pumping blood throughout the entire body. Quiet and powerful, and something you can't do without. Ning Buyi and Hua Zhouyu complement each other and become the source of strength and motivation for one another. If they do not find each other, who knows what would've happened to either of them?

There's no elaborate sweet moments or love story here. It's then quietly being each other's companion (especially Hua Zhouyu to Ning Buyi) and each meeting and parting make them better people individually and for each other.

I highly recommend this novel if you're interested in this trope. <<less

The plot is so smooth. The scifi aspects are easily understood without being longwinded, as if you're reading them as an afterthought to the plot. I'm pretty bad at reading scifi and I'm happy to read this great novel without needing to get a nosebleed or the author just shoving long annoyingly detailed text at me. Like annoyingly detailed text can make the plot better, not.

The yuri couple is so cute together and despite the fact MC is a shy tsun they have great chemistry. Mostly just flirting, but the... more>> flow of their relationship is so good. Not very fast, but they actually make sense from strangers, to friends, to lovers. Some people mention that the yuri interaction was not enough, but in my opinion, it was ok. A couple doesn't need to be overtly affectionate or sexualized to be a great. They just need to make the readers feel the love between them is precious and I felt it enough.

The supposed ML was dealt with in increments and wasn't immediately deposed unlike other Chinese reincarnation/transmigration novels. He was systematically shot down bit by bit until he couldn't fight any longer. I love this sort of writing. Antagonists are there to arouse the protagonists into growing into their best selves. The novels I've been reading recently seems to only provide MCs with a Lv.100 boost and simply destroy their opponent just like that. It makes it so unrealistic and lazy.

Of course, the ML wasn't the end all be all, so if you want to know more of the story, you best go read it. Surprising right? Usually, when the ML is gone, these novels just stagnate until the author eventually gets tired of making lovey dovey CP stuff... but this one is different. Go read it. :) <<less

Its not yuri focused, if your here for that, forget it.

It world building and the FL discretely flirting with the MC. The MC is smart and fully understands what and who the MC is, therefore, them getting together took a while.

If your here for some good world building and smart MC tower defense type of sht, this may be your thing. Otherwise, forget it.

I was that otherwise. Read it all though, and as expected, wished there were more romance lol

This was better than I expected. I thought there would be more humor and silly antics, but the story takes itself pretty seriously.

The stakes are high from the start, and they don't come down. From Ning Buyi needing to help the planet heal just so she can survive, to stopping the impending end of all civilization (that's not an exaggeration).

And it was paced and written very well, without making me feel like things were too crazy.

Honestly, I felt like there was a bit of Lovecraft style horror in the story... more>> as well. Not really that bad, but it's there.

The romance didn't actually feel that impactful because I (personally) felt like it took a back seat to the planet building and universe saving.

Overall a good story, and I think our two leads were both cute and bad@ss. <<less
