Pros- medically accurate. I felt the author might be first or second year med student bec half of the cases were basically the diseases they teach in our first year. As a perosn who is giving her 1st years med exams it legit felt like I was revising parts of my syllabus so that was fun.

not so fun part- as I said author nim main strength is writing about medical stuff and not actually case solving or deduction. I felt the criminals were caught quickly and them accepting their crime... more>> took less than the time it would take to make my instant noodles.

As a person who has read way too many crime bls I felt the interrogative process of the ML sub par. Maybe it was even realised by the author bec they had to spoon feed us and remind us every time he goes into interrogation that he is the best and there is no criminal he can’t crack.

Also them accessing the internet search history of suspects 🤡🤡. Uhmm ik this is fiction but still girl WHERE IS THE PRIVACY 😭😭. I know you are a fictional special investigative unit but the cases you have received WASNT honestly that SPECIAL atleast until now.

They could just be a normal police force without having the “special” software where they have access and can just look the suspects phone content without enough clues.

personally I felt that part was added by author so the cases can be solved pretty quickly without much haste. Like I said it didn’t seem the crime solving was their string suit anyway.

anywhooooooss this is a fun novel and can be read with no thoughts and head empty😂😂 so far.

An all-around fun and fantastic read!

You will definitely enjoy this novel if you like reading about a smart couple who solves a series of crimes. There is also an overarching mystery related to their past that ties things together and keeps things interesting. Even though this story is heavier on plot, I enjoyed the romance because of the couple's maturity and lack of misunderstandings/drama.

One of the best parts of this novel is the crime solving. Both MC and ML are part of the police department's Special Criminal Division, and they... more>> definitely get their share of the strange and fascinating cases that the police encounter. The author most likely has a medical background as the author is very detailed with the dead bodies. While reading this, you may want to hold off on eating when the MC has a new body to examine - it can get somewhat gruesome.

The important side characters were also great additions to the story. They were fleshed out enough so you can understand their motivations and reasonings. Not every "bad guy" has a bad heart and not every "good guy" has good intentions. The humor in this rather serious story also comes unexpectedly. Truly a worthy story to read! <<less

One of the best crime investigation novels out there.. I have to say that this story is a rare masterpiece with perfection. The cases that the police investigate, the main characters, the side characters.. Everything was so good.. I specially liked the character Lin Xinglan, the best father.. Speaking of the cases, each and every case was very detailed and no any doubt after solving them. The author had given everything up to detail and I really appreciate the effort of the author when explaining everything related to the cases,... more>> either the medical terms or the situation. Also, I really loved the relationship between the two main characters, Captain Gu and medical examiner Shen. They had such an understanding and loving bond which is very heartwarming. They share a very healthy and mature relationship without any unnecessary drama.. Overall, story had a good flow.

A big thank for the author as well as the translator for bringing this story to us.

Highly recommended! <<less

Really enjoyed this story!

Usually these police procedurals only have four or five cases tied together in one big conspiracy so to have so many cases with so many unique circumstances was great!

I also thought it was cool that the individual cases weren't too long and were mostly solved quickly and found to be committed by someone close to the victim (except for the few cases related to the big conspiracy) because this is actually true to life. Most cases are solved within 48 hours and people are most likely to... more>> be killed by someone they know. (Now you know what kind of TV I watch way too much of.)

It was also great to see the MC and ML getting down time between cases - well, a little anyway - to develop their relationship, and rather refreshing that the police station wasn't full of the usual cast of weird characters and humor. Not that I haven't laughed along at those, but it has become a bit old hat to always have the cops in these stories be a group of nutcases.

I think what I liked the best was that while the cases were bad, and the damage to people was definitely significant, it wasn't the total mindf*ck, see how far evil can go before a good person breaks and blows their head off kind of story. For some reason authors seem to feel the need to push these police stories to some real extremes where no normal person could stand it. Here, it was wild and evil but didn't make me feel the need to clean the filth out of my brain.

Anyway, I quite recommend this one. Nicely written, plenty of detail, might not want to read the autopsies while eating though. *Wink* <<less

Ok.. Hear me out, I used to compare other detective/mystery/suspense novel to Mo Du (if you haven't heard it check it out~) but really, it would be unfair to compare this novel to Mo Du, cause they're both special and yet has their own charm that you wouldn't be able to resist.

While Mo Du was quite a bit fast-paced, Insights is like slow burn yet it dug dip, maybe because of our MC was a medical examiner so every copse that he checked it felt like he dissected those corpse... more>> in front of you. It's GRUESOME yet bearable, maybe because you also wanted to find the truth.

Because of this, I'll remember that pretty girl who were left near the Lovers Tree, that boy who saw how his mom died, killed those who hurt them, submerged in the mire along the filths of all scums, and yet that boy decided to be a good person in the end.

If you came here for some romance you might want to get another novel to read, their romance took sometime but surely they're meant for each other.

Anyways, enough with my nonsense, Good luck and have fun reading it, J'ya ~ <<less
