A demon is hiding among humans.

His name is Ye Xiyao, a recent university graduate who’s currently job hunting. He looks no different from a regular human, but the magical aura he exudes is exceptionally strong.

The Supernatural Power Safety Bureau of the Alliance has classified his threat level as SSS, deeming him a severe danger to the harmony and stability of human society.

Xing Xu, the strongest exorcist of this century, operates under the principle of eliminating all demons without mercy.

He is assigned by the Supernatural Power Safety Bureau to monitor the demon Ye Xiyao, going undercover as Ye Xiyao’s direct supervisor at his internship company. Xing Xu strategically places Ye Xiyao’s desk inside his own office, creating frequent “chance encounters” during work hours and taking full advantage of every opportunity to observe him around the clock.

The moment Ye Xiyao reveals a weakness, Xing Xu plans to eliminate him without hesitation.

Ye Xiyao has a secret.

To keep it hidden, he avoids forming deep relationships, always keeping to himself.

However, recently, Ye Xiyao made a friend—his new friend is none other than his direct supervisor, Xing Xu.

It's interesting. You have this rabid dog exorcist/executioner ML with an infinite energy reserve tasked with keeping an eye on our MC, a *must lay low* and law-abiding hella powerful succubus who tries to hold his true nature back at the expense of himself. One is on a mission, another thinks he's making his first actual friend. It's a hilarious combination, especially seeing ML getting flustered by the MC and constantly thinking the MC is seducing him when in fact the MC is clueless.

I think this novel does... more>> several points well—we have dimensional characters who actually feel emotions and have realistic reactions and conflicts. Both the MC and ML are not omnipotent (but close to it), rather they suffer backlash for their powers and have backstories that reveal their initial character dispositions gradually.

Plot-wise, conflicts flow naturally as we see ML and MC navigate the treacherous waters of "crap, the lines of my mission are blurring and I'm falling in love with a demon" and "oh god, I'm sucking all the life force out of this innocent human."

I think my only complaint about this story is that the characters don't feel consistent to me—I just feel the author couldn't choose a disposition for the characters. Sure, MC and ML can have different facets to their personalities! I just don't think there was enough build-up to facilitate those facets so early in the story. It's kinda like the author put all their traits of their favorite MCs/MLs in the character design, without providing enough background (?) to make it fully make sense with their characters. Nitpicky, but I do love consistency. Besides that, enjoyed it! I think it's a fun cute read, especially since it has some vague detail with the sexy scenes (more detail than most censored novels). <<less

This is set up to be a feel-good type of story you read just to get stuffed with dog food and move on without much thought. And, with the MC and ML being supportive and sweet to each other in almost every chapter, it has accomplished its purpose.

Unfortunately, the nitpicks below stop it from getting a perfect score.

Spoiler

The ML could have mentioned that the MC took advantage of him in the prior chapters to establish proper communication —it wouldn't have exposed either of their identities. Unfortunately, everything was dragged out for the sake of misunderstandings. And, if any discussions are happening, it somehow requires s*xual activities to introduce it.

Even as the ML confronts the MC to show off his love (only after almost losing him twice in a day), he decides not to explain anything and pushes himself onto the MC (Honestly, it's pretty icky to read parts of the "Yaoi" because the MC never stops saying how he wants ML to stop and that he hates it.)

When they eventually do talk, it's only due to an accidental Tail reveal too. The MC gets a pass, considering his fear of being found out, but the ML deserves nothing. "MC might be faking it" was a claim the ML himself dismissed almost midway through.

Nothing is backing up anything said. I neither understood MC's fears nor cared about ML's.

Why is anyone scared when the only ghosts that appear vanish in a few paragraphs? Why do the Exorcists seem to only exist to separate the ML from MC instead of doing their job and proving MC's fear of them right?

Why did MC's upbringing make him act like he is 15 and not 22?

What purpose is there to set up a Demon-Angel-Human-Exorcist world when that aspect could be swapped out, and it changes nothing about the plot? How am I 44 chapters in, and only now do they talk about their alignments and what it means?

Personally speaking, the author should have crafted a better idea of what their world was like. All this feels like I am reading two characters placed into a paper-white setting to put on a push-and-pull performance as the crowd claps and croons at how cute they are. <<less

This is a good story, but somethings do annoy me with it. They're not deal breakers to me but for some it might be.

What I really couldn't understand was when the s*x happened. I mean the Xing Xu always wanted s*x during rather important discussions, and throwing s*x in there as a deflection seems scummy to me. Ye Xiyao also really didn't seem in the mood when it was initiated except for the handcuff game. But then again what he disliked was how rough Xing Xu was. I don't think he disliked the s*x itself but just the way it was done.

Other than my main complaint this story all in all wasn't bad. Was the best? No. However, for quick light read with a supernatural plot it's pretty good. I was honestly looking for this type of story too. A light novel that wasn't too long but had a supernatural pizzaz to it. <<less

This is a story with higher than average quality of writing and also exceptional translation. The plot is ok, the story flows quite smoothly as you read it without translatory hiccups. Those usually put me off after first few chapters. Unlike other higher rated stories (that would be worth reading if they haven't been butchered e.g. By many instances of literal translation with explanations in the notes after every chapter), this story is actually an easy read even if the language isn't always perfect. It is of much better quality... more>> than Beloved Enemy, Advance Bravely or Guardian which were in many places discouraging or hard to follow. This is a very nice light reading. <<less
