With an overall rating of 5 stars and a re-readability rating of 10/10, I can safely say this is a FAV for me. I was actually a little hesitant to read it at first because the Novel Sypnosis was a little too vague (tbh, I've become accustomed to the direct summaries in the more recent CN novels. So these subtle, vague summaries are very unfamiliar XD). Back to the story! I'm no longer sure what I was expecting when it comes to this story, but here's what I discovered while... more>> reading it:

SUMMARY - The MC (Zhou Yun) is a dual-ability user who had struggled in the end times rife with natural disasters, mutants (plants, animals, and humans), and zombies. He survived for several years, starting with sticking around his home to finding a research center to work under as a scientist. Unfortunately, he was unprepared for the darkness of the apocalypse. At the beginning of it all, he was all alone with his disabled neighbor, the ML (Guan Yuanfeng). His neighbor protected him despite his disability because of his past as a special forces soldier and allowed him to safely arrive at a large base. The two didn't actually communicate much, but the orphaned MC who had been alone for a long time became a bit dependent on him. When confronted with the betrayal of so-called friends and the ML's tragic ending later, he exploded (like, literally). He went crazy.

Fortunately, he was given the opportunity to start over. He was reborn before the start of it all, not long before the ML officially moved to the suite next to his. Whilst preparing for the upcoming apocalypse, he slowly and meticulously (as if he were performing an experiment lol) wormed his way into the ML's lonely heart. The two became the best partners in the apocalypse. Along with the lovely dog Comet and some late-arriving friends.

So what do I think? I think it's a great story! The writing is very well done. The prose was beautiful. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the later chapters were not as interesting as the initial chapters. The overall plot was also not as exciting or satisfying as I was originally expecting. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. This story has a slow and steady pace. Amongst the chaotic background of the apocalypse, this fresh daily feeling is actually quite interesting. Also, if you're tired of the typical CN Zombie novels with powerful portable spaces or systems that pretty much dominate the world from the very beginning, this is the perfect story to start with. The quality is excellent, so there's nothing to lose!

As for the characters, I like them quite a bit. The character growth and daily survival development were focused on the first half -- with a lot of subtle romance chemistry mixed in. The latter half was more about base-building and infrastructure (which is why I found it a bit dry. These things are fun when viewed from the overall picture. But at that stage, the main external conflicts had been primarily handled. Even if there was no satisfying conclusion, from the strength of the MC and ML, those things were no longer a big deal -- and thus, no longer important when it comes to the big picture.)

To finish it off! My favorite here is the world settings. It borrows a lot from the typical zombie apocalypse genre. But because the MC in here is a researcher. There's more detail into things like mutated plants, animals, supernatural powers, etc. Which I found very interesting. <<less

Extremely satisfied with this novel!

It's heavy on the yearning, even though they go about their business they're always flirting not so subtley. Because the ML is quite dense, they dont get together until late into the novel (100 chapters in). I also love how the ML has his own personality, goals, life path and isn't just a body guard for the MC like most apocalypse novel.

There's alot of scheming, lots of face slaps. The CP doesn't have any love rivals but they do face alot of ambush and people trying... more>> to kill them. The MC stays in one place throughout the entire novel, but he travels outside to do business. It's a great novel that has a full side-cast. Give it a go, I think it's really interesting <<less

I want to remind you all first the the main couple ain't getting together not just mere in chapter 100. It between chapter 130to 140.

Idk lol I was reading in mtl so I can't really pinpoint the accurate chapters. I just remembered that untill 133 they have not been together. Even ML didn't realize his feeling at first or just couldn't find the right word for his feeling. So I got guess on certain chapter with title something about Spring and Love, finally ML realize it (withe the help of... more>> MC's teacher) then confront MC directly and just make out right then and there (on a chair lol).

Anyway... apart where you wait soooooooooooooo long for them to be official, I guess I am still in sane mood cause the entire time they are together, they always flirt to each other. On the base that MC did always in love with ML but ML didn't realize and just treat MC specially cause... He is indeed special to him, that's it.

Even the people around them know first about it before ML (except for our cutie Qin Sheng).

I was kinda hoping for second couple tho I can't really ship anyone with anyone. I have lil favoritism to Qin Mu tho and I also kinda like Long Dingzhou. One for his smartness that always appreciated by people around him and willingness to be spotted as "villain" (tho idk what villain they talk about lol. Maybe in politician part but the author never really work out on the politic to deep. Instead you would find a lot about MC's speciality like biological plants etc). While the other is for his effortlessly cute personality. Like he is a general or major? Idk the translate is not that good since it's mtl. He is portrayed as muscle head and kinda dumb. Even his supposed to be nemesis also think he is easy to deceive. So on the scene

where he rescue Ye Yuqing after being told that he got to recuperate after using superpower stimulant but he clearly remember that Ye Yuqing won't using any drug nor he have any plan of getting superpower whatsoever. Thus proceed to Guziu to ask for help from MC.

Then proceed on the way he react, beg, and take care of his superior with the reason of "loyalty". So I was like

I wanna see him being bottom so much. Preferably the top was Ye Yuqing.

Cause I kinda like bara tag. You know. I imagine Ling Dingxiu to have a big body and muscular like ML's description while Ye Yuqing is typical scholar since he got strong speciality in strategy (it mentioned kinda often so it's stuck in my head, also the way general Tan actually also has small built not typical of northern army. And they are competing in administrative and political power. So like well yeah like that. That's it. Idk how to explain it well enough.

Just imagining some scenes where that "loyalty" was being paid by Ye Yuqing with "love" like omg I'm imagining it right now how Ye Yuqing when pinning Ling Dingxiu down and giving "order" to him to just accept his love obediently. Like AAAAAAAAHAHHH I can't believe myself *wheeze*

The story is great. I totally like the last scene of attack from villain like

MC just got kinda OP and berserk mode where he summon vines that have lightning also mist and another light abilities from that ginseng plant. He utilizes 4 superpower at the same time and got overdraw. So he went into coma right in the middle of something you can read it yourself. Stuck in his past life's dream. Guan Yufeng just kinda arrive and being absorbed into seeing MC's past live where he got crazy and destroyed the Dark Alley Lab after seeing ML's corpse. Then the way ML waking Zhou Yun up by successfully "move" his body (corpse, yes, at least it was supposed to be a dream idc) and calming him down after his rampage.
