Well this was an amazing novel, the characters were brilliant, even they were not the greatest, they were great.

Especially with the relation between the ML and FL, at first they were like normal friends, however as the story progress, they learn about one another, their secrets, vendetta, goals, dreams, and vices. Moreover, the way their relationship progress is extremely cute and adorable, as they served as one another light post and motivation to achieve their goals and dreams, and espescially how Sugar just kinda becomes... eh... le*d? Towards the ML... more>> lol

Do note that the first 60 chapters focused on their childhood, and after that is after they escaped
Spoiler

the orphanage and stayed at the Church for protection, cause a weird cult is targeting Sugar because of her compatible body for the Demon God

, which then continued to Academy Arc that lasted till early Chapter 100's? And returned back to the plot.

All in all a solid 8/10, though the past of Sugar being a man kinda became useless and pointless, as after past chap 60's, Sugar became eh
Spoiler

like a dog in heat, getting into situations that belong to a site with the devious "N" all in the name of FRIENDSHIP!!! with the ML

Though I'm kinda sad this got Thanos snapped by Novelpia. <<less

A cute little novel. For a very, very basic premise, the MC is now Sugar, a character that would become a "Saintess" for a f*cked up evil cult, currently in an orphanage.

Meanwhile, she helps out a boy being bullied by 3 other boys taking his food, beating them up until they relent and.. Takes half of his food. Hey, the bullies took 1/3rd each. She's still better.

So now, shenanigans happen between the two of them as she mostly messes with him and also protects him for taking half of his... more>> food. Like the MC's name, Sugar, this is a sweet novel.

She doesn't know that the boy she talks and interacts with is actually the villain she is worried about. So yeah, lol.

I don't have any particular complaints for this, so mm.

Edit: God, their interactions are cute. <<less

Update: So this series unfortunately has been dropped by our group, as you may be aware Novelpia has been stopping translations of some KR works and this one was one of them...

HI HI!! Translator here!! I realized I forgot to actually hit publish on my initial review....

ANYWAYS!! Welcome to 'It seems like I've become the childhood friend of the Hidden Villain', you may have noticed that the synopsis is... well not the best. However I am here to explain a bit more about the story!

In Hidden Villain we follow... more>> our beloved MC, Sugar as she (formerly he) gets transported into the world of a story she experienced in her past life. In this life she is Sugar, the future saintess of the Shadow Cult which worships this evil god. We start with her meeting a boy named Tommy at the orphanage she is staying at where she effectively bullies him into becoming friends with her.

Most of the appeal of this novel comes from the relationship dynamics between Tommy and Sugar, as we watch them grow up and get into trouble time and time again (and Spoiler! falling in love along the way!). If you are a fan of Childhood friends to lovers, TS, cute relationships and/or bickering couples then I can't recommend this one enough.

So spoilers for later on in the story!!

Spoiler

So, later on in the story right around c60 and then through around c130 the story slows down quite a bit, with a focus more on the school life of Sugar and Tommy and their relationship. Along with that it does become a LOT more le*d, r19 is not an actual component until later but there is what some may consider soft core. So if that is not something you would enjoy I recommend skipping this story!

After around c130 though the main plot of the story picks up again and we get more involved with the antagonists, the chapters prior are more used to setup the supporting cast and our two other main-ish characters.

[collapse]

Overall while I really really enjoy the story, and think that a lot of its charms and characters outweigh a lot of the negative facets, there are certainly issues. For example, the gender bend of Sugar from her past life isn't as impactful as some might want it to be. Regardless though I love this story, so if any of this intrigues you please give it a try! <<less
