Jiang Hu’s Road is Curved

Description

Alone, Pang Wan entered the Jiang Hu[1]. Her dream was to become a pure lady [2], to find her destined other half.

To fulfill this dream, everyday, she would dress elegantly in white and sit in the teahouse to admire handsome men and read her novels.

She heard, the demonesses [3] related to Jiang Hu were all, depending on their martial arts capabilities, divided into groups of three, six and nine.

Currently, the evil woman, who had the beauty of a blossoming flower, who had a heart like snakes and scorpions, who could kill at such a young age, was a once in a century’s peerless demoness.

She also heard that the demoness had came down the mountains to challenge the Wu Lin [4] champion Gu Xi Ju, to take the title of number one and to wreck havoc in the Jiang Hu.

Yet again she heard that all those who had decent martial arts skills vowed to get rid of this witch.

Aiyaya, it’s not good! Isn’t this demoness her? She did not kill the person! She did not start the fire!

This infamous name of the demoness is also not what she wanted!

Looks like Jiang Hu’s road is very curved, she’d better run!

—–

[1] Literally translated as rivers and lakes. Refers to the pugilist world.

[2] Direct translation: A lady like a White Lotus, meaning pure.

[3] Not exactly the supernatural kind. It’s kind of a name for the women of Jiang Hu.

[4] Wu Lin meaning martial arts.

This story made me laugh so hard I cried. I had fun reading it.

This story made my heart hurt so terribly I cried - at least four times. At one point, I didn't want to read on, scared of the pain I uneasily felt that I'd be feeling in the future.

If I call this a romance novel, I feel like that isn't entirely correct. But if I say that this isn't a love story, I think I'd be wrong.

... more>> But mostly, this is Pang Wan's story.

It's not the greatest love story in the world, though it is a good one. It's not the most impeccably plotted novel with master class schemes that all tie back to subtle sentences in the beginning, though it has a bit of that too. I was surprised, multiple times, reading it. It's not the most incredible adventure story in the world, though I had fun exploring the world along with the protagonist.

What it is, is a great story.

When I first searched on series finder, I wanted a novel with a female protagonist, that had some action and adventure, and a good bit of romance too. I got what I wanted, and I fell in love with it.

And with the protagonist.

She - and a lot of the other characters - go through incredible character development. My first impression of her was a cute but spoiled girl, arrogant yet innocent. Some people (like me) might like this kind of character, a lot of others might not.

But by the end of the story, I couldn't help but love her.

There's a reason this has such a high rating. If you give it a try- I found the first couple of chapters a bit hard to understand, but it gets a lot easier to read after that. And the translation's great, too. Rereading them after I finished the novel, they've become easy to understand.

I'm definitely going to reread this, and I think it'll be a completely different experience the second way around. I'm looking forward to it. <<less

This story is all about a girl from the land of the Mary Sues, and where she learned that the world is not always what it is. She learned to grow to a better person, and learned from her mistakes, and she learned to prioritize. The characters were amazing I love their imperfections and flaws and how differently their perspectives and monds work. A great novel that grasps your attention from the beginning and keeps you wanting for more till the end. Translation is aldo very good. Give it a... more>> try won't you :) <<less

OMG, what a ride. Reading this story is surely like riding a roller coaster because it successfully makes my emotion fluctuates rapidly. Sometimes I get annoyed or sad or happy or sad, etc, you name it.

Don't discourage to read this just because you find MC annoying in the early chapters. You'll see her growth to be a better person later.

Now onto my review (contains spoiler of course) :

Spoiler

At first, I also find MC very annoying. She has a delusion to be a Mary Sue who is adored by every man in the land of Jiang Hu (because she was a Mary Sue in her past life in modern time). But later she finds out that she's very wrong.

Her 1st love interest, Nan Yi (her childhood friend and also her senior brother), hates her because she stoles his father's attention (later, it's revealed that she's the real child of his father and he is not). And he choose to marry someone else who is more beautiful than her. Heartbroken (not because she likes Nan Yi, rather she disappointed because Nan Yi doesn't like her who is in her mind is Mary Sue), she leaves her sect to do a real life training a fews days before his wedding.

Her 2nd love interest, Gu Xi Ju, is nice to her and makes her falls in love with him, only to betrays her in the end. His betrayal makes MC's personality changes completely. She doesn't have any delusion to be a Mary Sue again and finally faces the reality that out there many women are beautiful than her and also the jiang hu world is cruel, unlike her world in her previous life.

Her 3rd love interest (our ML) is tsundere type male lead. He's only interested in mechanics and doesn't like interacting with an opposite gender. But later, he gradually feels different when MC is around and finally admits that he likes her. Our ML surely is the best. He's maybe cold in his appearance but inside, he has a warm heart. Seeing his devotion, MC finally gives in and trusts him completely.

And now for the ending. Many finds the ending is not satisfying but I'm on MC's side. Indeed the best revenge is not to think about that person anymore and to live happily. And although GXJ is still alive, his longing towards MC (who he thinks was dead) is the best revenge.

As for Nan Yi, his ending also makes me quite sad. He lost nearly everything, his family, his sect, and he also lost his inner energy while saving MC's life. And now he lives as an ordinary person alone. I just wish that someday he could fall in love again and spends his life together with her.

I usually dislike naive/idiot characters but strangely Wan Wan has her own charm. At first she frustrated the f*ck out of me and I was ready to drop this but then again it was never my thing to stop reading anything halfway so I continued. Thankfully she had development character eventually, thank god lol. Anyways this was entertaining, I would've loved to see more from HQL's perspective at the end in the extras but its all good still.

This was crafty. The story, the plot, the characters were all created beautiful and if you have the tendency to read between the lines or look beyond the story you'd feel like this is a good representation of the complexities of human nature.

The story started out slow, to be honest if you don't have patience many would probably drop this with just a couple of chapters in because it was a bit confusing to the point of being boring. But then gradually the story evolves and it starts to make... more>> sense as to why things had to happen in such an order. All the characters, regardless of what role they play in the story, were equally important with the development of the plot and this is not easy. Most the time when you encounter a character you either hate or love them but on this story, everyone has that something that makes you want to connect and understand.

Although it started out slow, there was not much unnecessary plot twists and such which I, for one, am grateful for. This was pretty straight forward, followed a simple path that led to a beautiful ending.",) <<less

Honestly, the beginning was a little hard to follow. I'm not sure if it's the translation or the writing style. Probably hard for the author describing transmigrating from a world that is not earth into a world that is not earth. So no loss of points on that. For me it's 4.1/5. The point loss is because the MC is at times too naive, but she grows throughout the story, so don't disregard the story because of this element (She's just naive for a China novel, not nearly as foolish... more>> as Japanese MCs).

Multiple times this one get hard to follow, but you pick it up with some context, so it's not a biggie. Enjoyable read, longer chapters so that's nice. Worth reading, but I don't recommend this for new readers. The jokes require that you know about conventional romances with a Mary Sue type character, otherwise you won't get what it's talking about or why it's funny.

Overall, try it, just jump into it without reading summary and stuff, that's what I did.

If you're not sure what a Mary Sue is, then read some others and come back to this later. <<less

YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THIS!!!!

Not a simple story of a Mary Sue heroine, it is so much more. This story has everything - intriguing characters, hilarious moments, plot twists, interesting character developments, ever-changing dynamics, love, heartbreak and drama... so much drama.

Warning - It will be really really hard to choose a ship. You keep on speculating after every turn of events.

Definitely recommend this novel! ??

The female lead is a bit delusional at the start, but she matured and progress. Don't let the cover picture dissuade you, it is a really good novel. It is a little confusing at the start but persist and I assure you will eventually love this story

Loved it. Novel has been completely translated.

I was reluctant at first to read as the FL sounded very ditzy. But you soon realize there is more to her. Some parts of it is really serious. Guessing the ML is hard. But it is a HE.

I was hesitant to read this novel, I just ignore it a few times when I read the story description but luckily I gave a try when I read some readers good reviews, and it was really worth my time. The few chapters of story in the beginning was not enjoyable read but just keep going and it keep better and better, I think although the start was not a good read but it was important part to build up plot line. Unpredictable toward ending, so I'd like to recommend... more>> this story to anyone who love rom-com novel with cute and silly FL. I'm giving the highest appreciation for translator doing a wonderful job and of course the writer was doing great as well. <<less

Spoiler

Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster.

Honestly, in the beginning it didn't really give me the WOW factor, and you really don't know who is the male lead, since there are a few males that pop out, but MC doesn't really interact a great deal with them.

My advice is to continue to read, because it gets so good, DON'T DROP IT if you have started reading. There are so many plot twists after plot twists, and honestly it's so refreshing that the plot is unpredictable. I even jumped on the wrong ship, for the first 50 chapters.

After I finished the novel, I re-read it, starting at chapter one, the MC has grown so much. Her character development is no joke and she turns into a person who was once (neutrally dislikable) and naive to someone who's every action you root for.

This book got me so hooked and I just could not put it down after the action started.

My average rating is usually 2-3 stars, so I 200% recommend.

SOOOOOO GOOD I stumbled upon this gem while looking for xianxia stories to read and thought it would be a fun comedy to read.

1. It's not actually that funny, but really interesting! It takes a while for the protag to grow on you and the novel to leave its awkward "chunni" feel stage so give it time. The MC is a previous MC from a Mary Sue world who in this current world daydreams of her future harem. The set up itself is great but the execution.... Well it's... more>> cringe at the start. Or maybe things were lost in translation. Anyways the MC is ACTUALLY STRONG?! This made me so happy haha! You'll fall in love with her and how she sticks through to her beliefs although she's been born as heir to an evil sect this time.

2. (I didn't expect this so:) Despite the comedic focus of the synopsis, the novel focuses on romance. And boy is it GOOD romance! Realistic interactions and motives and behaviour, the author gets you suitably invested in all the male leads! Don't worry if a fav of yours disappears! They're male leads for a reason and are sure to come back.

3. Plot enters more around end volume 1 and sh*t gets exciting Volume 2 onwards. I wouldn't call it an emotional rollercoaster but rather a... Rocky cruise, comfortable with some unexpected jerks. <<less

Reader coming through
For now I'm at chapter 60 and I have to say that was some damn plotwist!

Don't want too spoil so I won't spoil the names but one of the ML is such a villain. It's been while since I've seen such a twisted fellow. I hate what he did but I love him as a villain!

It's a bit sad through that none of the MLs are truly worthy of FL's love.

I can understand the second ML. He must have hated her because of the unfair treatment and her complicated identity.... more>> Doesn't exonerate him for his actions but he is not a good person to begin with so we can't expect much. He's a bit twisted too.

The last ML, I can't bring to like him. He's too... selfish. Let's not talk about the beginning but I was disappointed in the last chapters I read.

Spoiler

She got deal with several blows. First she got tricked, nearly killed and lost her cultivation.

Then she learn that her whole life is a lie manipulated by a villain. The people she loved or either a spy or lying to her. We read she's in despair after that, DESPAIR!

And the reaction of our dear ML, a violent jealousy tantrum. The second reaction? She has to confort him repeatedly for him to soften and he doesn't even ask her how she is or confort her but act like she has to be at his beck and call and follow his orders.

I can't like him or ship for their love because I also think it's unhealthy.

[collapse]

I feel the FL should not forgive them so much but does she even have a choice to save what she cherish? I feel she's a bit pitiful.

A tsundere demon, a manipulative psycho or an overbearing narcissist... what a dilemma...

If I have to rate it, I would comment that the plotwist is good, the villain gave me goosebumps, the FL is a bit too soft and lack a bit of true character but cute, the final ML he's like being chosen by the criteria that is the less toxic one haha. It's good but frustrating.

Spoiler

I actually would rather see her with the second ML. He's a demon cultivator from the beginning but from what we can see of how he treated his first wife, I feel that he would cherish the one he loves and in a healthy way.

The others... one is totally a no go (twisted love guaranted) and the other can't stand contradictions so she would have to be an obedient little flower. He doesn't even try to understand her feelings when he interact with her (a weird love from a narcissistic person).

Just leaving this review here as a reminder for my future self never to read this.

I was about to read this due to the huge amount of positive reviews saying that it will get better, but thankfully I scrolled down a bit more and saw the more realistic and detailed reviews, novel seems to be filled with scums as potential ML, and MC is s*upid and annoying..

4.4/5 ⭐

I started reading this novel without knowing there would be a betrayal... it was so twisted and yet I could pass that part well (I hate tragedy/betrayal).

The first few chapters are almost make me drop this novel because (to put it simply) our FL is full of delusions about pseudo-relationship with the so called her very own "Male Lead/Hero". She's so delusional that makes me questioning her character. Fortunately she got a character development!

I quite like how the story progressed, especially about our actual ML. It got a happy... more>> ending and that's make me satisfied! <<less

i read this years ago and I think this was my first attempt reading wuxia and thankfully I picked a great one. The story is unexpected, especially if you don't pay attention to the tags (glad I did not). I really enjoyed how it turned out. It's like rainbows and sunshine in the first half until something happened that really caught me off guard. It's a great experience. Definitely one of a kind story that shouldn't be missed out!

thanks to author and translator♡♡♡
