[He stepped through thorns, experienced life and death, and finally put away all the spikes and defenses, returning the remaining bit of gentleness to himself.]

Yi Chenliang was conspired against by others, and after his death, he returned to twenty years ago and became another boy.

Twenty years ago, Yi Chenliang was fifteen years old, rebellious, and felt that the whole world owed him.

On a sultry summer afternoon, in a dark alley, Yi Chenliang twenty years later looked at his past self on the ground, who was beaten like a dead dog, and sighed.

****

No one has ever loved you, I will love you.

I never loved you before, I came back to love you.

Meeting you, just in time.

I liked it, the story pacing was good, I didn’t get bored and the writing was also good. It introduced the characters personality and background without overwhelming the reader. Making it easier to remember. I originally saw this novel but haven’t read it untill now because I thought the falling for yourself thing was weird. But it’s not too different from other novels where the ML x their inner tribulation demon or where the ML is the mc’s other personality.

I really love this novel. It’s not perfect, but it does not deserve 2 star review and not even as bad as the other user said. Was MC not cold blooded? I’d say he wasnt even that cold blooded in his past life. He just forced himself to be for the sake of his own living. Now that hes in another body? Why should he stay cold blooded? Plus, MC explained that he sympathised with original MC so of course he would tried his best to make the most out... more>> of the body. Such a proud deceased person, MC couldnt bear to ‘tarnish’ or act crooked while using his name.

Honestly, this novel attracted me because of the plot of falling in love with ‘oneself’. Maybe some people would be a bit off with the idea, but I promise you the more you read the more you can differentiate MC and ML. They have the same habits, but different thoughts, actions and personalities. This novel is kinda romanticizing the idea of “In the end only you can care about yourself.” Which is kinda sad for MC I think. Because In both lifes he only has ‘himself’. But I guess that premise is what makes the story interesting and worth to read.

Other than that premise, the plot points are nothing different. I do agree that the tropes are almost the same as every other school life novel. But the author execute it in a non boring way. Its enough to keep me entertained, at least. Though I must agree with the other reviewer the author shouldve explain in more detail about the MC Original Family. I feel like theyre the only characters or plot point that the author failed to tie up properly.

Side characters were either fun or barely acceptable. Sometimes the author spend more time on some side characters than others. But there were somewhat a conclusion for almost all of them and not entirely forgotten through out the story like some other novels.

Honestly, I would suggest you give this a read first and find out wether you like it or not. <<less

I have mixed feelings about this book. While the author has done an awesome job in tying everything together, leaving basically no loopholes, the plot points are all bad cliches--the ones I hate the most. I'll try to write the good and bad points of the novel.

The Good

    • MC and ML aren't some overpowered people. Despite traveling back in time, MC doesn't have much advantage over the whole situation. After all, how can a 15-year old solve something that a 35-year couldn't solve? But he does change everything that he can change. Like his own fate through studying, Yi Chenliang (ML) 's fate by providing him an environment to study and grow up like a normal kid, and his close friends' fate by just helping them here and there. MC doesn't get to exact all his revenges because he was helpless in the past and helpless now. But that's what makes the story believable. Thankfully, the villains receive their retribution eventually.
    • All the main and important side characters are lovely. I was especially shocked by Su Qingbai's character. He was actually the most well-written character in the novel, although you will have to read the extras about him to find out.
    • MC is not some ruthless killer. He's just a soft guy who had to kill for a living. He couldn't get out of that life and he hated himself for it. This personality of his comes across easily through his actions.
    • I also like the fact that Zhao Qinghe (MC and ML's niece of sorts) is a girl. I mean, if a child is born, 9 out of 10 times, it's a boy in CN novels. So, her being a girl brought me immense joy.
    • Well, if you are into self-cest novels, it's a plus point.
    • Also, there is no such thing as 0.4 top and 0.6 top kind of situation. I don't even understand how people can easily quantify someone's s*xual activity like that and use is as an entertainment. Just thinking about it is gross. Anyways, there's no such situation going on here.
    • The funny thing though is that all the bad cliches it has actually work for this novel because of MC's past life. The author has tried to seamlessly join the past and present life together, so these cliches actually make sense. So I'm torn between my hate for these cliches and the author's good use of cliches.
The Bad

    • MC didn't come across as cold-blooded enough when he travelled back in time. Although he acted extremely detached to his family members at first, he immediately throws himself into studying day and night that we just don't get to see how exactly ruthless he is. I mean he just seamlessly blended into his environment without much struggle. It could have been written better.
    • The main and side characters may be lovely, but their personality is not fleshed out enough.
    • There are all the bad cliches I don't like. For example, high schoolers getting tangled with gangsters, kidnapping by bad people, physical and emotional ab*se by adoptive parents, not-warm biological family, confinement by the biological rich father, forced separation, high schoolers getting shot by gangsters, constant hospitalization of main characters and main side characters, etc. Like seriously, they are just high schoolers. Can't they just study in peace? Why do they have to get hospitalized every few months? As high schoolers, why are they being kidnapped and shot? Why are the adoptive parents always abusive? Why are the real parents worse than the adoptive ones? It's cliche after cliche.
    • We don't get to exactly see what problem ML's father was facing to force ML to confinement. Why would a parent want to forcefully prison his son? Why is a government official able to live in Switzerland just because he wants to confine his child. What exactly does he do that he can work overseas as a civil servant? Some of these questions are not answered, so all this forced confinement thing comes out as lackluster. Basically, the author could have taken the story in a different direction than she took it in the story. Things like kidnapping might not have been avoided, because that's when Qi Huo gets interested in becoming a cop and his love for his boyfriend deepens and MC's ruthlessness also gets shown, but this forced confinement situation could have been avoided entirely.
    • The writing is mediocre at best.
Anyways, it's not a bad book, but it's not great either.

Wuwuwuuwuwu. It's sooo cuteee..

I've been thinking that this novel needs the selfcest tag but reading the whole novel didn't really feel like its selfcest. The two characters were amazingly the similar but different at the same time. It just made me want more..

It's a good fast read, give it a try!

I liked this a lot!

MC was a killer forced into the career by circumstances who dies after trying to redeem himself. He wakes up in the past in a different body. He meets his younger self and decides to prevent him from making the mistake that led him to his future path. In the process, both of them fall in love with each other. Yes, there are dramatic dogblood circumstances like kidnappings and horrible adoptive and biological parents like a previous reviewer mentioned, but that's part and parcel with danmei,... more>> so I wouldn't say it's a negative. I found the story touching, with good characterization of main and side characters, cool action, sweet moments, and a MC and ML that are strong in different ways. MC is like a retired badass and ML is a young wolf cub.

This made me very sad at several points, such as what happened to the original owner who was driven to su*cide by being outed and humiliated, or how unfairly MC was treated by his family in the past, but ultimately it's a HE. <<less

Omg.. this is definitely morw than 4.1, it should be 4.5 the emotional part is soo good, if y say ut sho ai.. although indeed there's no real meat.. but the smeel is so fragrant, at first I didn't recognized MC and ML is the same person, at first I find it kinda weird.. I mean... u can probably try to imaging urself bed u or u bed them, somewhat crazy but this indeed crazy, our mc/ML situation make u fimd it understandable to do it, Author also take mc/ML... more>> thinking to us, give us legit persuasion, the exras, the if, and many more is satisfying for me.. very recommended, but I need to tell u dat this is not so fluffy and comedic as their cover illustrated <<less

I would say you first need to understand who the MCs are and the relationship between them before you give this a go. This may not be everyone's cup of tea.

If you didn't quite get it through the summary, this is a selfcest (?) book (the MC is the future version of the ML). MC lives a tragic and painful life till he dies at the age of 35, where he finds himself in the body of a 15 year kid 20 years in the past. And it just turns... more>> out the younger version of the MC exists in this world too and they both go to the same school.

The book starts off with MC just wanting to enjoy his second chance at life, ignoring his previous self, and trying to blend in as the previous occupant, Yun Fang (a boy that takes his own life after getting humiliated and bullied for being gay) - he decides the repay Yun Fang kindness for giving him this second chance at life by taking care of his parents and trying to continue as things are. Yun Fang is sort of genius whereas MC is not - so its hard for MC to adjust.

MC sees his previous self as 'No brains, impulsive and irritable, violent and resentful, smoking, drinking, fighting, and stabbing people with a knife when he got angry, regardless of right or wrong, he was a ruffian.' So MC leaves his old self be. MC does remember it was during this year that he killed the first person in his life and gets himself into juvenile detention - this is where his already bad life goes downhill and he finds himself in hell. On impulse he decides to stop this event, and save his previous self from the life he was forced to live. Also while MC starts himself at the top freshman class (there school ranks classes by grades) after a disastrous attempt at the monthly exams, finds himself in the same class as his previous self.

ML sees this top student in the same class as him, always seeming to care about him and saving him from disaster, and starts falling for him (he thinks it might be mutual). MC does start off this all just wanting to take care of him, and even tells his previous self that he doesn't like his previous self, as his previous self likes him, but things do progress, and feelings do develop. This is the start of a (not very smooth, full of set-back after setback) romance, and out ML of the story is the previous self of the MC we have talked about. Don't worry, this does end with a happy ending.

I would say this book is actually pretty well written, and the translation is pretty great too. I don't think this is a perfect book, mostly in-regards to MC's life after the age 15 (well his first attempt at this). Some of the details of his previous life as a ruthless killer do seem a little farfetched - yes I understand the point was to give him as bad of a life as possible, but I just can't help but think, is such a life even possible?

I did enjoy this one, and I will also give Lan Ming Yue when the book is finished a go too.

I feel like the author really had tied all loose ends in the story. Every supporting characters were given closure and the connection from past and future were explained clearly.

The struggle of loving oneself romantically was also shown perfectly. They had actually realized their feelings after half of the chapters and I guess that was too early but what keeps me going is how the plot would unveil. Although it was draggy at first, I like how everything makes sense after the MC's (future) life was unraveled.

It was a good... more>> read but not for rereading. <<less

It is not a really 4* book for me but I felt that giving it 3* would be unfair. It was ok, full of drama cliches but sometimes you want them (i even like to read books with identical plots just cz I like them so much). Few of those cliches were quite strange though, like ... more>>
Spoiler

adoptive parents behaviour in general and trying to sell their adopted child to a mine (i am really worried about Chinese ppl if this is smth so easily done there. Ofc s*avery exists everywhere but in countries like china it should not be that easy I think? Though what do I know about china except for reading a shitload of Chinese webnovels) ; like totally ridiculous situation with abandoning the second child, I mean wasnt there a better way, he was still their son, there are plenty of ppl wanting children but not being able to, esp a boy, was it so difficult to arrange a good family for him, but again it could be a cultural thing I was not able to understand).

I really liked that both couples were versatile. A rare thing in asian works.

[collapse]

In general it was not bad, I spent good time while reading it, but not smth I would ever reread. <<less
