I'm writing this review because the current rating doesn't do this book justice.

I chose to read this book because I'm a fan of second chance romance, and I've been glued to it since I started. The main character might seem weak and incompetent at first, but as the story progresses, he's like a diamond in the rough, slowly revealing his true worth with a bit of polishing. While he's not exceptionally smart or overly competent, he has clear boundaries and stands up for himself when necessary.

This journey of growth and... more>> self-discovery is what makes the book so compelling. The transformation of the main character is both believable and inspiring, making this a must-read for fans of character-driven stories.

Spoiler

The MC is a very pragmatic person and knew exactly what kind of person his husband was. He understood that there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world, which is why he gave up his body and future in a desperate bid to save his dying mother. Growing up in a single-parent household made him more sensible than others, adding more depth to his character. He wasn't the typical blind and infatuated omega; he was a realistic and self-aware individual who made difficult choices out of necessity.

[collapse]

The ex husband is just uggggghhhh🙄🙄

Spoiler

I am glad that the MC knew his husband's true facade from the beginning and only stayed out of a sense of obligation due to his perceived debts. He was fully aware that his husband only helped his mother in exchange for his body.

[collapse]

The ML really stole my heart in this book. He's not one of those cold, super-smart elites you often find in romance novels. Instead, he's an emotionally wounded person who finds solace in Wen Ke's (our MC) care. What makes him truly special is his unwavering honesty and dedication. He is always true to his feelings and has never put anything above his love for Wen Ke.

This authenticity and vulnerability make him a refreshing and deeply endearing character. If you're tired of the typical aloof love interests and crave a story where the ML's love is genuine and heartfelt, this book is a must-read. The dynamic between the MC and ML is beautifully crafted, adding layers of depth and emotion that will keep you hooked from start to finish.

Spoiler

Their love story actually starts 10 years ago in high school. They were each other's first love, but because of a mistake, they missed each other for a decade. This long-lost connection and the pain of separation add so much depth and emotion to their relationship. When they finally reunite, their love feels both nostalgic and incredibly profound.

[collapse]

Another thing I really enjoyed in this book is the communication between the characters. Even when there are arguments and sad moments, they always express their feelings instead of keeping them bottled up. Whether they're taking a break or dealing with challenges, they never stay quiet and cause misunderstandings. This open communication makes their relationship feel real and mature.

his novel isn't your typical fluffy romance; it portrays love in a realistic and complex way. It presents various types of love, not just the perfect fairytale kind with domineering CEOs and idealized characters. Instead, it delves into realistic obstacles, in-depth side characters, and authentic reactions and emotions.

What struck me most about this novel is its exploration of unconventional loves and different types of strength, like endurance. It emphasizes that as long as there's passion, there's always hope. Reading this book made me reflect deeply on the nature of love itself—what truly defines love, what drives us to love, and the complexities that come with it.

This isn't an exaggeration; this novel resonated with me on a personal level. It prompted me to reconsider how I perceive love and its various facets.

If you would like a new perspective on omegaverse, strength, and love, then this novel is most definitely a must read! <<less

This is a very good novel for people who like angst, not fluffy kind of novel. For those who like to read fluffy one, please don't vote this novel badly just because your taste in novel is different from others. This novel is really good, it feels more real with the emotion. The misunderstanding between both of character also doesn't take that long to be solve because they communicate and trust, please don't vote this badly just because you can't take a little bit of hurt and sad in your... more>> emotion <<less

I just finished the story and holy crap, my eyes are burning from so many tears. There were times I really thought things would fall apart. I couldn’t see how the author was going to get from this point to a HE. But they did, and it didn’t feel forced. If I have any complaints it’s that it ended too quickly. Once the final conflict was resolved they just cut to 6 years later, but there were certain things I wanted more fleshed out. Like a resolution with the Omega... more>> dad. Or how their relationship changes after the marking. The MC spent so much time and heartache resisting the idea of a permanent bond so when they finally resolved this, I wanted more time dedicated to the happiness of it. His first mark left such a heavy scar on his heart so he viewed marking as dominance and submission. So once his mentality changed I wanted to see the love and devotion between the two with this new bond. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel, my only regret is that there are no extras.

There is some angst sprinkled throughout the novel (some instances more heavier than others) but the story is a HE.

I really like how the author wrote the relationship between the MC&ML. Despite the unwavering mutual affection they had for each other, both parties also had deep scars they were scared to reveal to each other which was ultimately still brought to surface. Although these obstacles were resolved in the end, I was surprised by how layered their... more>> relationship was, which made the story a lot more meaningful to me.

I definitely recommend this novel whether you're looking for something meaningful to read or something angsty to read. <<less

This is where the angst lives.

Really good scene setting and character building. This was one of the rarer types of stories where not every situation had a black and white solution, and the motivations and reasons the characters had for making some of the deciding plot point choices they did were impactful and realistic with lasting impacts on their character design and future actions. This extended to some of the background characters as well, not just the spotlight main couple.

The author did a great job of building up suspense and... more>> turmoil, but the resolution didn't always feel as detailed or cared for. An example of this is when the MC/ML decided to be together. There was a lot of work that went into explaining their histories and why the story needed to start much earlier than this pivotal point; when it did happen, it was very quick and nondescript. The relationship after getting together was sweet and worth the wait, though, and it was clear that they cared deeply about each other.

Overall, good storytelling, good scene setting, but a cerebral story. <<less

I think this may be my first review on this website. I have a hard time writing my feelings so I don't bother.

Usually I read bl novels with at least 4.3 ratings. I have finished all the good ones that align with my taste in novels. However reading brings me peace as it takes me away from the harsh realities of life. That is why I read happy lovely novels usually.

In my desperate pursuit for a new BL to read I stumbled on this. The plot was interesting as it... more>> didn't give me much to glean from and 4 is close to 4.3 so I decided this will be the next novel I read.

I finished it just now. Bookmarked it in my novels I finish bookmark and what I have to say is that I echo the sentiments of others in the comment section.

This novel deserves so much more that 4. This is a rare 5. The complexity of the characters and the sobriety of the elements in it. Even with a love so beautiful it seems unreal, it was starkly contrasted against the reality of life.

Spoiler

One thing that stuck with me was that when Wen ke did not want to be marked by Han, and Han accepted, the author said Wen ke became the winner in the relationship but did not know that he lost in love.

[collapse]

This was such an emotional realisation because we always read about how love is sacrificial but we never really understand until we experience it ourselves. They both kept carving pieces of themselves for each other. It was a love so raw and bloody that it made one fear but be in awe.

Of course there were some parts that were frustrating and I had a slight thought to pause the novel for a moment but the frustration made the story all the more real and raw. Life is frustrating. That is the truth. Human interactions are too complex for us to be thrown off by frustration. It is a natural part of life.

I shed a few half tears reading this, especially towards the end. Half tears because I don't like to cry so this is actually a big deal for me. This novel could not have ended any other way. I want to thank the author for this beautiful novel and the translator for doing such an amazing job, allowing the readers to emerse themselves in the story.

I won't read this novel again because to me it gave me such a special experience and I want to frame it in my heart.

Don't look at the negative comments. Read the plot, look at the cover and if this novel speaks to you, I say read it. Read it so you don't miss out on important self reflecting moments and melancholic realisations.

Thank you for reading to the end.

Sincerely,

R. <<less

Oh it's the side couple of Evil Love Appears. Wait which story appeared first tho... hmmm. Edit: (It's this story first [2020] then Evil Love Appears [2023]afterwards.)

*funny enough, people prefer Evil Love Appears more than this Last Love. Maybe the author got better at charactization, who knows. Or there are too many heavy themes in Last Love.

Well anyways premise is good I guess, but I just don't like Han Jiangque at all. The ML of this story. Wen Ke is fine, but Han Jiangque urgh, he caused so... more>> much trouble in Evil Love Appears. I'm pretty sure that this story paints Han Jiangque in a different light. But with how Wen Ke and Han Jiangque relationship affected Fu Xiaoyu : (Bruh. I can't let that go. Man. I'm still irritated as f. My baby Fu Xiaoyu deserves the world. But I am definitely reading this later on, so im not rating it. I have to see why Han Jiangque acted like a total Buffoon in Evil love Appears. And if his actions actually were plausible. Can't fault a guy for acting s*upid for someone he deeply loves. <<less

Usually I don't write much reviews, but this novel made me feel so much, I agree with many comments below. This is not perfect novel but I still gave it 5 stars because it felt so real, so frustrating at times but still their love was unwavering nowhere throughout the plot you doubt their love yet there is so much heartache. And it's written very well you feel every emotion and that's why It's a rare gem.

PS: I really can't read it second time because I don't want to shed... more>> so much tears again.... <<less

. MC - an E-level omega who, after a ten-year relationship and six years of marriage, faces an unfortunate fate: he is cheated on, divorced, and forced to undergo surgery to remove his mate's mark

[collapse]

Spoiler

ML - an S-level alpha, two years younger than MC (a detail that is emphasized repeatedly which becomes quite grating)

[collapse]

Spoiler

They were classmates for three years, and MC developed romantic feelings for ML during their third year of high school (during his differentiate into omega), meaning ML was just 16 at that time. Due to a misunderstanding stemming from ML voicing his dislike for omega genders, MC never confessed his feelings. Unfortunately, ML only realizes his mistake a bit too late, leading them to part ways, with MC deciding to accept another alpha. This makes me wonder—just because he felt rejected by his best friend, and because his mom got sick, does his change of heart really have to depend on someone else? And come on, they haven't even finished high school—they're still in their third year! Fine, let's chalk it up to the foolishness of youth, but at least the emotional breakdown during that time should have been explored in more depth, not treated so simplistically. It's also revealed early on that ML has feelings for MC, but to me, it feels more like lust, at least at the start of his awakened feelings.

Fast forward ten years, and they unexpectedly reunite during a difficult and painful time in MC's life—both physically and emotionally. They quickly reconnect and jump into a relationship.

[collapse]

While the premise holds promise, the execution leaves much to be desired. Despite being a fast-paced romance, the chapters drag on with unnecessary drama that quickly becomes frustrating. The constant emphasis on the alpha-omega dynamics, alongside descriptions of the alpha's muscular, tall physique and the omega's soft, bouncy big *ss, is repeated over and over and adds little to the overall narrative. Additionally, the portrayal of the omega's life during his ten-year relationship, combined with frequent flashbacks to high school—often repeating the same scenes—becomes redundant, annoying, and ultimately detracts from the story.

Although the characters were supposed to be in their mid and late twenties, the story somehow lacked sense of maturity, not just in the characters but the writing itself. I can't quite understand where the adults' love came from. They reconnect quickly because they couldn't be together 10 years ago and still have strong feelings for each other? Instead of relying solely on their past emotions, I would have preferred to see a deeper portrayal of their current, mature understanding of love and how they progress to build a relationship after everything that has happened. A slow-burn approach would have worked much better than the quick jump into a relationship, especially considering the ten-year gap between the main characters. So much happened during that gap, and they weren't the same teenagers they once were, as admitted by the MC himself. While it's true that you only live once, making a spur-of-the-moment decision driven by past feelings feels unrealistic. I wouldn't mind if the relationship started as a 'bedmate' situation; that would be more fitting for their current circumstances. And it relied too heavily on overused tropes and simplistic drama - omega as a victim of circumstances, revenge, pregnancy, poor to super rich ML, the misunderstandings that leads to unnecessary quarrels, and the ex-husband as villain seemed uninspired and cliché. I admit that a strong point of this story is that the MC is not the typical weak omega; he grows to become financially independent and isn't a crybaby. He doesn't care for any revenge against his ex or his in-laws for the wrongs done to him; instead, he genuinely wants to move forward, even if the ML is overly focused on getting revenge on his behalf. However, honestly, I struggled to connect emotionally with his character and the others throughout the story. I couldn't feel the emptiness, longing, sadness, anger or any other emotional turmoil they were meant to portray. I'm not sure whether this disconnect stemmed from the writing style, the characters themselves, or my own broken brain, but it ultimately left me feeling detached from what should have been a deeply impactful narrative.

Even the smut scenes, which are often a highlight in some omegaverse stories, were lackluster and, frankly, quite boring. What should have been a key emotional and physical connection between the characters felt more like filler content.

Overall, this story would have worked much better as a short, focused piece on second chance, healing and redemption rather than a surface-level romance with predictable twists. It sretched out far too long with unnecessary bs drama, losing momentum, flavor, and any emotional impact it might have had. For me, it's a pass.

This was an amazingly written and translated roller coaster. I picked this up on a whim and one of the best novels I've read in a long time. I won't post any spoilers. Not only was the pacing perfect and quick, so I was eager to keep reading day and night. The characters were so wonderfully done & the romance between our two MCs had me in tears. 11/10, on my favorites list. LOVED IT.

Love love love, I actually read Evil Love Appears a while ago and did not realize this was the semi prequel until I was already into it. I really love this story. It’s not just a story about love but is also about discovering yourself and realizing it’s never too late. That goes for love, career, your ability to change, and the ability to be honest with yourself and those you love. It’s sweet, sexy, a little deep, and has an interesting plot. Well worth the read.

The MC is not enough for the ML. It’s also ML fault for loving him so much that he prefers to be a doormat than to stand up in the relationship.

Also, doesn’t really help that he got pregnant while they were reconnecting. This novel could have finished at 80 and that’s with extras but of course, they had to add unnecessary drama that made no sense to the overall story.

ML should have finally had some balls to move on and MC should have stayed single.

It's ok.

I get bored really easily and I didn't exactly get bored of this novel so I guess that's something to consider but I didn't really get s**ked in by this novel either. I feel like it had potential but the writing wasn't particularly amazing and the dialogue wasn't always done well. There were times when the characters would try to say something super open ended or philosophical but it in my opinion it didn't really fit well with their character. It just made the MC seem really cheesy. Plus... more>> the things that were said never really hit me like I assume the author intended it to. It was like the author was trying very hard to make some shallow or nonsensical statements mean something.

It's my personal opinion that if an event is significant or the dialogue is well done there shouldn't be the need for descriptions explaining what the characters meant to say.

I feel like, maybe it would have sounded better in Chinese? I'm not entirely sure. I think the translator did fairly well thought so I'm less inclined to believe that.

If you don't enjoy the MC and ML being deliberately described as an animal I would sit this one out however. MC is constantly described as a giraffe and ML is a wolf. I just go really tired of it. Like it's ok to compare your significant other to like idk an animal you find cute or beautiful but the emphasis on these comparisons threw me off and was genuinely kind of really weird to me. It's brought up in fairly supposedly serious scenes as well and I felt like it kind of disrupted the atmosphere? *is dying*

"my little wolf"

I also feel like too many things were forcibly written to happen at the exact right time in an attempt to allude to a higher power or fate drawing the MC and ML together. Maybe something like this happening once would be ok but several times in the novel seems way too forced. I really liked the concept of finding oneself or finding love again after losing it but in this case it was like not finding love but realising you've actually been in love with someone else for the past 10 years.

The problem I have with this novel is its complete disregard for the benefits of change and growth. The MC blames himself for not being the person he once was and the ML is stuck in love with the past MC and yet instead of working to accept their new selves or changing each other for the better the MC asks the ML to give him time so he can revert to his past self. I feel like this novel was really just trying to be too many things at once. The author tried to fit too many "meaningful" lessons and ended up contradicting themself and creating many unrealistic scenarios. In the end this novel is fiction so it shouldn't matter if it's unrealistic right? The problem is the novel is trying very hard to be realistically meaningful. Trying to touch on many serious concepts without including nuance. <<less
