A zombie virus has spread in peaceful Seoul.

Korea has named zombies ‘Meogbo/Eaters’, and after a struggle, they fail to eradicate the meogbo.

– Fellow Koreans, on September 30, our government and Seoul decided to give up the Korean Peninsula.
– Come to Jeonnam.
– The military is waiting at Mokpo Port, Mokpo, Jeollanam-do.
– Fellow citizens. Let’s all meet alive.

Shin-hu: a blunt bodyguard from special forces.
Tae-baek: a boss who is playful and has a cold face with a weak stomach .

Tae-baek to live, Shin-hu to save Tae-baek,

Together, the two navigate a world of chaos.

“If you think your life will be in jeopardy while saving me, then leave me. I don’t want to go there.”
Tae-baek, who tried to speak calmly,

“I won’t leave you alone. No matter what happens, I won’t leave.”
Shin-hu responded with his distinctive calm tone.

The two grow closer as they spend time together.

Tae-baek discovers the tenderness hidden in Shin-hu’s indifference, Shin-hu soaks in Tae-baek’s reckless affection.

“Do you like me? I think I will fall in love in a few days. I get that feeling.”
“…”
“And maybe, you will love me too.”

Tae-baek proudly confesses his love, while smiling like a boy who had just started his first love.

Shin-hu chuckles without answering.

‘Eaters’ flocked around these two.

Don’t die, don’t give up, Let’s all meet alive.

I don't typically do well with long novels (221 chapters is long for me;;;) but I binged this one in a few days; it's good and did what it needed to, for a zombie apocalypse romance. I hope someone picks it up!

Plot follows a chaebol (seme) and his new bodyguard (uke) as they navigate S. Korea to reach the designated port where the safety point is. For an apocalyptic setting, there's a really good balance between the zombie plot and romance. Plot aside, the romance is really the strong point.... more>> It develops naturally and (thank god) there are no dumb and prolonged conflicts or misunderstandings between the protagonists.

Neither of the leads are dumb or helpless and need the other to hard carry them. They're actually really kind and affectionate to each other and I feel like they do quite a lot of (consensual) love-making and kissing for a zombie apocalypse... lmao, I ain't complaining though.

tldr; I definitely recommend it if you like apocalypse bl <<less

i feel like the rating for this should be higher,

apocalyptic settings are not my go to, but this one really grabbed me, I wanted to wait a little before leaving a review so i'll probably update this in the future~

so far I like the pace of the story and I can feel how the relationship is starting to develop, of course it's under special circumstances since they barely interact with other people if at all, but it doesn't feel rushed or forced. Their first kiss was really *chef's kiss*

At... more>> the point I'm at now everything has been consensual and I sure hope it stays that way (but there hasn't really been explicit scenes yet so;;;)

The horror aspect isn't that gruesome or terrible like I was expecting, at least up to the point I'm reading. Really, what shines in the story so far are the main characters and how they deal with the situation of the virus, and their inner feelings (like death *cough cough*) <<less

Ok, I'm not a person who gives up easily on a reading. I usually end up reading it against my will and force myself to finish it so as not to be unfair to the novel. But I just can't take it anymore. I dropped it right here (chapter 66).

In 66 chapters (1/3 of the story) this novel failed to grab my attention with absolutely ANYTHING.

The characters, the plot, the worldbuilding (apocalypse settings), the action/tension, the romance, the humour, the writing... everything in this novel tastes like unflavored gelatin. The... more>> only really good part of the novel is the first 20-30 chapters (until they leave ML's apartment).

The protagonist and ML: I couldn't care less about them. They never had a shred of development, we don't really know who they are and they are as dimensional as a sheet of paper. I can't even feel like they are people in a story.

They absolutely DO NOT seem like their age. The 32 and 28 year olds look more like 20 and 18 year olds and it's frustrating as hell. Every time the story reminded me of their real ages I was like "what?????? Oh yeah... true". At first they did act according to their ages and everything, but after a while, when the romance started to happen, they simply go back to being teenagers. And this isn't just in the romance, but in their actions.

One positive point is: at least they're not those morons from apocalypse movies who go around trusting anyone just because they're nice. They have a logical reasoning regarding basic survival. At least this novel got that right.

The romance: If there is a term like slow burn, this novel is the complete opposite. The ML OUT OF NOWHERE turns in a chapter and goes "wow, he's hot... I like him ^v^". More random than that is the MC after the kiss. Like, I can understand the ML, given his character, but the MC, who felt nothing, suddenly starts loving the ML as soon as they kiss???? It almost seems like some chapters of the development of their relationship were erased.

I don't mind it being fast-burn, but what happens here is just laziness and impatience to develop chemistry between the characters.

And think of something that makes no sense at all. These are their flirting scenes. They are in a middle of a damn apocalypse, with less than 30 days to evacuate to the other side of the country and all the ML thinks about is f*cking the MC. They may be in the most dangerous place in the world, but they will find a way to start making out out of nowhere.

I'm not kidding.

Spoiler

They were kidnapped, sedated, sent to a really weird place, after the MC GETS RUN OVER BY A LITERAL CAR, so they logically start coming up with a plan to escape since it could be really dangerou- uhh why they taking off their- WOW OMG WAIT THEY ARE F*CKING?????

[collapse]

Oh, and remember, they're 32 and 28 years old, one of them is a special forces veteran.

Ugh I just can't take this sh*t seriously.

They can be kinda cute sometimes, but in the overall it's just so bland because of the insta-burn.

The main couple: And of course, the MC as a 'bottom' is the bottomfication of BLs, but the power bottom version.

(God I hate these BL classifications, since I think they summarize well-written characters as 'the guy who f*cks' or 'the guy who gets f*cked' as if people were just that, but in the case of this novel, there are no well-written characters here so...).

The 32-year-old guy manages to be more of a virg*n than Mary. He's never even thought about self-pleasure. Like, the guy's never tried some kind of self-pleasure? At 32 years old, he's never shown the least A BIT of curiosity? I'm an as*xual and I've been at least curious about my own body, and you want to tell me that this 32 year-old guy didn't have the slightest bit of curiosity in his entire life? Living among so many men, I'm sure he must have heard several stories, and still nothing? It's hard to believe that he's not a 16-20 years old teenager.

He's a former special forces captain, who's been on several battlefields, and doesn't have very defined muscles because coincidentally his body can't maintain muscle mass. He's relatively short and has a pretty face. While ML is a normal citizen who's super muscular with abs and everything just because he goes to the gym every now and then.

Wow, the story is totally not trying to maintain a heteronormativity here... nooooo that's definitely not it....

Besides, he's the one who's ML's emotional support, the one who gives him a hug/kiss when ML is feeling down and needs motivation. Think of a bottom 'role', this is our MC post-kiss.

And of course, if we have our well-defined bottom, we also have our well-defined top. While the MC is the super virg*n, the ML is the experienced guy, with men and women and, obviously, a d*ck as big as his horniness. The guy literally has to have custom cond*ms made because the conventional ones are too small for his kaiju dick.

Ugh it's sooo tiring.

He's a super golden retriever for the MC and likes to spoil him to the extreme. The MC's smile is rare and lights up the ML's life and blah blah blah.

The two are so personality-free that I can literally only refer to them as "the strong bottom and the childish top" in my head. That's their identity. I finished this yesterday and can't even remember their names.

The only positive point about them as a couple is that they're both green flags.

Plot: The plot is so meh. The virus came, the zombies started, they go out to seek refuge with the government. That's it. There's nothing in between. They encounter hordes of zombies every now and then, escape and get back on the road.

Now they've
Spoiler

encountered some kind of weird cult,

[collapse]
but it's as intriguing and innovative as tap water.

Could the plot get more interesting later on? I doubt it, but I won't be unfair either, maybe some miracle will happen, Idk. All I know is that after 66 chapters I don't give a damn about this plot and I don't even want to force myself anymore to keep reading this thing to see if this miracle happens.

Worldbuilding: The zombie apocalypse setting is extremely weak. I never felt like they were really in real danger after the first 30 chapters of the novel.

And how, HOW was the army unable to deal with these weak zombies??? Dude, they don't use their arms, they're slow, they don't jump/climb, they're s*upid and it's extremely easy to lure them into traps.

The protagonists literally
Spoiler

killed hundreds of them by themselves with a poorly-made explosion

[collapse]
Just how USELESS is this army? Literally, you just have to stay on the high ground and the zombies won't get you, HOW did thousands of soldiers even die in the field????????

And another thing,
Spoiler

not even with all the world's support possible would they be able to rebuild all of Korea and reestablish themselves economically that easily.

[collapse]

This government is so useless that I think a 10-year-old child could be a better representative than these guys.

At first it does seem like a reasonable decision, after all it's for the sake of the rest of the world... until we see how pathetic these zombies are.

The only positive point of this worldbuilding, which I actually liked a lot, is that the zombies are very different, pathetic, but different. At least the author took the time to use a little creativity.

The writing: The scenes have terrible continuity at times. In one line, the character is lying down leaning against the door frame, then literally in the next line he is already sitting on the couch. Would it be hard to say that he walked in, straight to the couch and sat down? Or put a '...' to show a cut in time?

The moments of tension didn't manage to engage me at all, I'm not sure if it's the writing's fault or if the zombies are too pathetic. The only time I felt a little bit of tension was
Spoiler

when they were leaving the apartment at the beginning and the encounter with the first zombie (before the apocalypse actually began).

[collapse]

I have been more thrilled by synopses than this novel.

The characters:..... LOL there are no side characters until chapter 60.

It's literally 60 WHOLE chapters of MC and ML (and they are still bland as hell). And when characters finally appear, they don't even have names. They are literally referred to as 'the fat guy', 'the student', 'the guy with glasses', 'the redhead', 'the old man'. Oh, there are two sisters in there too, but they practically have the same name. As if it couldn't get even more lame.

When the novel doesn't even bother to name its characters, you can already see how much it cares about developing them.

Again, I'm not going to be unfair, since I didn't read it until the end, I have no clue what will happen to them
Spoiler

one of them died in less than 2 chapters lol

[collapse]
or if they will actually have any shred of development, sometimes miracles really does happen I guess? But by the way this novel has been written so far, I can kind of imagine that it won't lead to anything either.

And it's hilarious
Spoiler

how COINCIDENTALLY the sisters took archery lessons and are perfect at it. Both of them. They can hit headshots with ancient bows. In a single attempt. In moving targets.

And when the ML finds a sword. Guess what. Yes, he knows how to use it like a professional, because, GUESS WHAT... YES HE ALSO TOOK CLASSES.

[collapse]

This novel is so absurd that makes me laugh.

I've read silly novels, you know the ones that are just for fun? So, I've read silly novels with more logic than this one.

Now, just so you don't say I'm slamming it, there are things I have to praise:

    • It had a good start.
A very good introduction to the zombies and a good transition from a peaceful world to the beginning of chaos. Even the preparation period for them inside the apartment was very well done.
Spoiler

The population not respecting the authorities, thinking it's fake and going out into the streets (COVID vibes) was very well thought out.

The way the news became increasingly alarming as time passed: starting with the helicopter crash, then bear attacks, then several victims of that bear, the internet going down to contain the chaos, the detection of the virus itself, and finally the declaration of a state of emergency.

[collapse]
All of this gave a sense of immersion in the story. Which lasted until they actually embarked on the adventure.

    • The MC and ML had personalities at the beginning.
They had mysteries and pasts that seemed interesting. ML's mysterious illness, the reason for MC's dismissal. I was really curious to find out more about them, but they just threw that away. I don't know if they will bring this back later on, but at this point of the novel I just really don't care anymore. Their dynamic was really good too, until the insta-burn and the kiss happened.

    • And, as I said before: MC and ML have really good survival instincts, they are green flags and the zombies are out of the ordinary.
Apart from that, this story is a big meh that didn't even serve to pass the time. It's amazing how a novel with so many things that I love managed to disappoint me so much.

But I don't know, try reading it and make your own conclusions. Who knows, you might like it? After all, it's not complete garbage, I just wish I hadn't invested so much time in it. <<less

There are times when it made me anxious like in the movies, where there's like a threat and the main character must do something.

You can see how they bond, why they fell for each other. The road they must take is very dangerous not only because of the zombies but also because of other humans as well. It's quite smutty too, sometimes I question if that is appropriate at this time of danger, like when you're kidnapped together or something.

I haven't completely read it yet then forgot. Seeing this here,... more>> I might read it again. <<less

I love apocalyptic setting. And if it's a apocalyptic setting without rebirth, transmigration to a book and hoarding food all the better. I feel that when you know how the things going to happen in future as in most of chinese bl zombie nobels, it reduce the excitement and horror and trill of reading. This book tick all the boxes. The beginning was very logical and described the chaotic situation in the beginning of a zombie breakdown. So far I liked the characters of MC and ml. I am very... more>> excited to see how this is going play out.

Translation is also realy good. <<less

If you're a fan of apocalyptic setting then this is perfect! I did abandon this novel at chapter 54. At the beginning it was OK and brought a kind of appropriate depressing air with it, but became pretty annoying.

Other Reviews emphasize how "real" the characters would be and that they would not do s*upid things, but that is not true.

I feel like the behavior of MC and ML are forced. The writer put the lable "Special Forces" on MC but his behavior doesn't seem like it? The whole background of the character is not there.

Also, the whole apocalypse backdrop... more>> is sketchy. I mean, the way they almost never encounter anyone and do not need to rummage for food...

This novel is boring and couldn't draw me in.

It got worse when the "love" story started. Doesn't feel like Love. More like a h**ny Teenager with Suspension Bridge Syndrome and a depressed Puppet.

I will most likely not read this novel any further and would not recommend it. <<less

The one time I went into a novel for the smut and was annoyed when I got the smut. It wasn't well done imo. Why did the ML fall in love so abruptly. By the time they get to safety they've known each other for maybe 3 weeks and were already profusely declaring their love for each other and wanting to live/die together.

It's a story set during a zombie outbreak so you'd expect it to be tense and engaging.... it wasn't. I appreciate the author's attempt at a plot but... more>> while the characters didn't have an easy journey everything was too convenient. If they needed something they'd end up in a place to find it.

Spoiler

also had to roll my eyes at the cliche of the MC being the cure for the virus

Easily became one of my favorite novels. Binged read this in 3 days.

MC is such a badass. He's One of the best ukes I've ever read. And the ML is adorably charming. The apocalyptic setting staged their romance and I like how the flow is natural. Everything is consensual and both are such green flags.

Their survival decisions are all logical as well. No insane "I will go alone" that you often see in horror movies.

The whole novel is quite thrilling. It's just one disastrous event after another that as a... more>> reader you had to take a breath for them. I could clearly see this playing out as a tv series. The zombie take on this one is quite unique as well.

Plus+ on character development especially with MC.

(I just found that there's a manhwa. Yeeeees.) <<less

This is a nice story but I think main plot of the story is romance instead of Apocalypse. The Zombies are their just for the sake of developing Romance which author conveniently used whenever he feels like

Spoiler

First of all MC (shou) is 32 years old retired special military officer and ML (gong) is a NICE chaebol.

In relationship and otherwise daily life MC is more mature than ML who is like a younger brother sometimes and sometimes a scared and lost puppy.

The main thing I dislike is how author executed the action part of story.

MC was called by his former senior to reprt back to army as the only way to stay alive still when people were told to stay at home and gov will solve everything. MC followed those arrangments and stayed and ml's house despite knowing how grim the situation was.

    1. Even if you believe in gov you should know that despite your compliance with gov other General public won't comply. Situation was bound to escalate from beginning yet they stayed at home for demise.
    1. Then nobody came to meet them even from the same building? Why? Aren't people scared? Why aren't they trying to gather with other people so that in time of need they can have some assurance or maybe use others as meat shield?
    1. One of the most absurd thing.
      Four days passed

      And then

Four more days passed while they were in there penthouse. No that's not how it happens You are asking me to believe that nobody contacted them and nobody attacked them????

    1. When gov announced that they have abandoned Korean peninsula and MC and ML decided to leave for safety in the morning. They only encountered a family while leaving at start after that they were alone and encountered no one? No matter what there should be people somewhere scared or traveling, running away from Zombies but it's like they are the only people alive in the whole city.
    2. But I really love how romance was executed
    1. It's 3.8/5 for me.
