Let's start with Cons:

World building mechanics is basically... Forget about it.

It doesn't have an appeal at all. Shut off your brain regarding "how is this, how is that, how can that be, what is this, what is that"

... more>> The story doesn't revolve on this particular setting.

You could say it's self explanatory.

Like, Arc 1: Where he lost his cultivation, health and... well, everything, but suddenly had the surge of power which doesn't make any sense but... Oh well, let it be. It's power of Love. Let's focus on what's more important.

Ok, now let's speak about the Pros:

Relationship and drama.

If there is something you could say world building... It would be solely focused on the problem of the MC and the Heroine (s).

For what? Of course, to elaborate the Relationship and drama that will take place between the two.

The drama here would be quite detailed and made a quite reasonable reason for the Heroines why they are so attached to the MC. Anyway, let's keep it here in order not to speak more spoilers.

Now, let's make analogy why I only rated it 3/5

The Pros are like branches of the Tree, beautiful and strong, and the Cons is like the trunk of the tree, unappealing and weak.

As a whole picture... It doesn't look good at all.

The only selling point is his simulation but the MC and the whole world itself doesn't have a goal.

The trunk is empty but it's branches looks really beautiful, it's quite sad to see it. <<less

This is a good webnovel - a VERY good webnovel.

But to quote Chef Slowik - "It will never be Great."

Why? Let me explain.

... more>> The Author is clearly an extremely skilled writer, and the translator, apart from the occasional grammatical error, is very good at their job. The characters are decently compelling, the story (in the simulations at least) pretty gripping, and when the author isn't being lazy, the writing is legitimately cinematic.

It feels like a breath of fresh air that has fun exploring exactly what happens when you take the role of the extremely important background character who's purpose is to die miserably in order to utterly traumatize the Main Character/FL and provide motivation for the rest of their story...

And do it through the lens of a Main Character who's kind of just doing this through the lens of an ordinary dude playing an RPG, getting attached to NPCs and trying his best to do the right thing while inadvertently just making things even more tragic when his inevitable fate comes to pass.

He's not a perfect, smart MC who's skilled at everything and anything under the sun. But he's not s*upid either. He's not a psychopathic killing machine, but he's also not a naive idiot.

He's an ordinary dude, adapting to extraordinary circumstances, but he has the power of common sense, and a pretty good grasp of his own strengths and weaknesses.

It's actually pretty refreshing!

I think my favorite part of this novel besides the premise is that it's pretty damn self aware and careful to avoid the same old tired tropes as a result. It doesn't overtly comment on anything, but multiple times it very much feels like I'm reading the mock-equivalent of something between a Tragi-Romcom Kdrama and a Xianxia Protagonist's backstory, but the plotline and characters are too carefully planned and fleshed out to just be either.

For the simulations at least, you can clearly tell that a lot of care and planning goes into the prepping and worldbuilding, especially with a few decent plot twists that caught me off guard - and while there's definitely some poking fun at the author's own character archetypes, they handle it well without making it a chore to read, and most importantly - they never treat the reader as an idiot - the endings to the simulations are blatantly predictable yet enjoyable nonetheless because the main character always finds a way to make each death somehow more tragic and soul crushing for the "real MC of that simulation" than the last, and the characters are all (including the side characters, villains and otherwise goofy silly characters) extremely reasonable with a decent grasp of common sense compared to your average run of the mill slop novels. (I exclude the FLs who are blatant, but blatantly enjoyable archetypes)

Overall - a very fun and engaging read, otherwise I wouldn't be writing so much about it!

All of this makes Life Simulation: ICTFSITRG a very good book (aside from it's abhorrent name).

Now we get past the glazing and to the absolute horsesh*t in this novel that legitimately makes me frustrated:

*Minor Spoilers*

We get to the IRL world's worldbuilding and the System itself. The former is utter, incoherent nonsense that serves as little more than a Magical-modern SoL combined with a half-baked progression fantasy that ultimately fails to live up to either purpose and the latter is just lazy writing, especially compared to how well written the simulations themselves were.

It feels like the Author wanted so damn badly to write out the Simulations that he just didn't really care how it would make sense - and while he definitely tries to rescue that as the chapters progress, it feels like they just didn't care, or didn't have enough time to fully flesh out the real world, and add any sort of stakes or investment in either the world or power system outside the simulations. All these "power ups" and "abilities" the MC just randomly obtains in the real world after his simulations completely screws up any sense of progression (though I will concede that like the simulations, has it's effects on the IRL world handled pretty well nonetheless), and you have numbers coming at you like "10x Magic Comprehension", when you don't really have any metric for measurement in the first place - I ramble but it legitimately is frustrating because it felt like the author kind of had a decently unique idea for it, and then just utterly lost interest, making the IRL parts just frustrating to read - there is potential there for something really good! But noOooOOooO, the author only wanted to write Simulations. Which he is good at, but I wish he put even half of that skill into writing the IRL part connecting the simulations together!!!

That is why this novel will never be great. There is literally no saving it from the horsesh*t that the IRL world connecting the simulations has become.

Personally, I believe that if they tried something like Worlds Apocalypse Online (cursed be it's name), and spent more time on putting even half as much thought into the IRL world's plotline and power curve, and ran the separate plots together, OR pulled a The Devil's Cage, and just let it go entirely while limiting the immediate rewards of the Simulation, everything would be just chef's kiss perfect. As it stands, the reason why the simulations were so entertaining, which I think the author doesn't quite realize - is the fact that the MC is limited and restricted.

It therefore *minor spoiler* makes the fact that he can just randomly obtain those gifts and talents, and combine them when he gets back to reality so ridiculously s*upid it completely wrecks any and all semblance of enjoyment from reading the progression fantasy system set into the IRL world.

It's just way too rushed, and it felt a lot like the Author had an enormous amount of legitimately good ideas, and decided to focus on them without putting any thought or effort for any of the aspects pertaining to extremely important but extraneous linkages between those ideas - a classic webnovel-media based fallacy meant to keep readers engaged - AND IT WORKS! But at the cost of unfortunately causing the overall world-building and progression to be lacking. He attempts to incorporate a decent sense of mystery into the inner workings behind the Simulation System, but not very well, and as I said - it will no longer ever be able to be great.

Ultimately, I'm left with a slight disappointment because I feel like this novel had so much potential that was just not explored because it almost seems like the Author is just testing out their writing skills rather than really investing anything into the story's world and plot besides the simulations, which as everyone else has pointed out are extremely well written compared to the "real world" parts; I'm really looking forward to what they might write next on a larger level without just focusing on these parts, and I hope they are able to rectify these lazy plot devices.

Rant aside, however, I literally couldn't put this novel down when I started reading, and would absolutely recommend for the plot, characters, cheesy romcom, decent progression fantasy when it comes to the Simulation worlds - and, yes, the occasional tears.

Hope my rant has given you a better idea of this novel!

TLDR: Extremely good book that is absolutely worth your time. Don't expect LotM or RI however, because while the Simulations are literally PEAK writing, the IRL World aspect that links them together and the IRL Power System is incoherent nonsense.

The premise of this novel seems promising, and I could see this becoming a very interesting story. Although I do hope this story avoids the common trope in these regret novels of the protagonist sabotaging his personal relationships for some perceived benefit to the other person involved, and taking ages to clear up the misunderstanding when it has clearly done more harm than good. 5/5 for now. (Edit: As of chapter 80 I am still enjoying this novel very much and would recommend)

Personal Review

This is definitely a solid novel, no doubt about that. But despite being labeled as an "action" novel with a system, it leans more toward the relationships and dynamics between the protagonist and the heroines. It's not your typical power fantasy, it's heavily drama-driven. And honestly? I'm not even mad about it. The emotional depth and character development are top-tier, and I found myself really invested in how the heroines interact with the protagonist.

That said, I do feel like a reincarnation theme would've fit the story better than the... more>> current setup. It's not a dealbreaker, but it might have tied things together more smoothly, especially considering the way the story unfolds.

Pros

  • Emotional Depth & Character Development : The novel shines in how it portrays relationships, particularly between the protagonist and the heroines. The interactions feel meaningful, and the drama keeps things engaging.
  • Well-Executed Fight Scenes : The action sequences are well-written and add excitement to the story. Each simulation has its own unique feel and challenges.
  • Distinct Heroines : The heroines all have unique personalities, making their interactions with the protagonist feel fresh rather than repetitive.
  • Unique Character Dynamics : While it's not a romance, the borderline intimate yet still platonic bond between the protagonist and heroines is surprisingly compelling.
Cons

  • Weak World-Building : While the world exists both in simulations and the "real world, " it's not explored deeply. It mostly serves as a backdrop rather than something truly immersive.
  • Inconsistent Power Scaling : Some of the strongest enemies, the ones the protagonist struggles against, end up as stepping stones for the heroines after his death. Their growth feels more plot-driven than naturally developed.
  • Predictable Tropes : The "weak to strong" progression and the fact that the MC always ends up with a female companion make certain parts feel a bit formulaic.
  • Low Tension for the Protagonist : Despite being labeled as an action/cultivation novel, there's a lack of real danger to the MC. The story leans more into drama and relationships rather than high-stakes conflict.
Overall Thoughts

This novel is undeniably engaging, especially if you're into character-driven stories with strong emotional depth. The heroine dynamics keep things fresh, the fight scenes are well-executed, and each simulation introduces new challenges. However, the world-building feels weak, the power system is inconsistent, and the lack of real tension can make the action elements feel secondary to the drama.

If you're looking for a well-structured power fantasy, this might not fully satisfy. But if you enjoy deep character interactions and drama-driven storytelling, it's definitely worth checking out.

This is first “life simulator” novel I’ve enjoyed. Here we have the story of Xu Xi who’s just an all around Nice Guy, and in that during simulations he keeps unintentionally getting girls attached to him who end up becoming godlike beings with borderline yandere tendencies- who end up coming to the real world, and Xu Xi has no freaking clue what’s going on and just treats them like younger sisters, it’s actually kind of hilarious.

Now as for the novel itself, the writing is surprisingly good for a CN, it... more>> isn’t overly Chinese, though a lot of details are overlooked and breezed by. Things are also overly convenient in the real world, while things also seem arbitrarily difficult in the simulations. Now the simulations are surprisingly well written, comes off almost as a QT novel with time skips, they’re emotional, have proper highs and lows, and good story flow. The real world however comes across as this overly convenient power fantasy, where they skip over most of what actually happens, aside from the background tensions with the potential FL’s the IRL bits just aren’t interesting, you could completely change the IRL events and it wouldn’t have any impact on the story. It reads more like the summary of a power fantasy with a very poorly defined setting. Overall it’s definitely worth a read as it is, though I don’t feel like the author has much clue as to where the story is headed, so I can’t say much beyond that. While the story gives the impression that the simulations are means to supplement the “main story”, I suggest treating it in reverse. <<less

This looks good, but it feels empty and hollow. In its VR world, everything about this novel is incredibly solid and impressive—I don’t doubt that. However, outside of that aspect, everything is a complete mess.

Imagine this: you manage to amaze your readers, but then you destroy it all, as if everything behind it barely exists, disappearing into nothingness. You throw away all the positives. I just can't understand how the author could create such an absurd story.

That said, the VR storyline is excellent, so I still gave it 5 stars.... more>> This is the first time I’ve had such mixed feelings about rating a novel—truly strange. <<less

2 star and go to the bottom

From what I had read, the only strong point of the novel is when the MC enter, experience, and aftermatch of the "simulated world", that the only thing that made this novel intereating.

Other than that, you can basically skip very thing else when he join the guild/association, when he make and sell magical artifact, you can ignore all that

Update: the later part 100s of the story stay the same MC enter new world grow in power, effortlessly obtain a heroine, but it seem the... more>> translator on both sites decided to use AI to translate the rest of the novel many name of realm, power, and techniques keep changing each chapter to something similar

Final update: after reading 250 chapter I can confidentally say that this novel is a MASSIVE WASTE OF TIME the only entertaining part is the stimulation but it also turn sour as thing got repetative and boring in the fourth stimulation. That why I am dropping this novel. Goodbye <<less

Writing this after finishing the first simulated world, and I've got to say, the writing in this is pretty good for these Life Simulation type novels.

Going by what it has shown thus far, I would say this leans more into the "drama" aspect instead of the slice of life / get strong as hell in most of these simulation novels, and frankly that makes it more palatable for me.

I would need to read more for a better concrete review, but so far, I'm liking what I've read and would be... more>> glad to read more of it.

This novel lacks a core storyline. There is no overarching plot, no conflict, no resolution, no character development, nothing. The novel’s official synopsis already spoils exactly what is going to happen in the first 80+ chapters. The characters are as bland as possible. The MC is a generic-kind good guy.

The ‘real world’ has nothing to do with the MC, no ‘storyline’ goes on in earth. Things are barely described, mostly things just move as if on fast-forward.

The ‘simulated worlds’ are even worse because you already know from the beginning that... more>> the whole objective is that the MC will make some girl obsessed with him. Most of the simulated world storylines are the MC just passing time and gaining knowledge.

This novel gets a generous 5 out of 10 at best. Even the most average cliché-ridden Chinese slop is better than this bland mess of a novel. <<less

Very good, really. Very recommended. 5 star out of 5.

Don't mind the title, that title is a bit misleading. This story focus on MC life in when he used Life Simulator. A genre that when it done good, it will be very good.

The story in the simulator really good, when I read it, I really shed many tear because of some scene that is touching. Well I only read 2 arc now, but those 2 is really good. Well the first act is more to my taste though, because the... more>> second is more in depth (more long than the first but the feeling in the end is more or less the same, touching). Well maybe because I prefer some fast pacing.

Give it a try my friend <<less

I went and read the raws just to see if this was a harem or not lol. Especially since I liked the premise (I really liked the already translated chapters). While I didn't finish reading it all, what I found is that there is more than one potential female lead

Spoiler

in each simulation I have sren so far he has picked up and saved a different girl and then died in front of them. They all became extremely obsessed with him and later come to find him in the real world. There are three so far. Xu moli in the first simulation, then the half demon girl, and the princess. In toa

[collapse]

I don't think he actually had romantic feelings towards any of them? But it was hard to tell when mtl-ing. I do know he cared for them lol. I'm a little disappointed, so I can't really rate since after the first simulation I started skimming out of annoyance. The parts between life simulations weren't that interesting to me (especially since he gained power really quick). It just turned kind of generic :/

Edit: came back to add that I really like the ml's personality. He's a pretty decent and good guy for a Chinese novel (the bar isn't very high lol). It just wasn't my cup of tea after the first simulation. And tbh, it was very obvious the goal was to get a girl in each simulation to like him and have him die tragically... <<less

Completely agree with the review below by Aurogon.

It is good, but it'll never be great. But that's enough. I'm content.

Also, although the central Earth felt bland. It is peaceful. I consider this a period of rest, a reward for this fool who has a few screw loose.

Get a rest you fool. Have fun. Eat a lot. Sleep a lot. Just rest.

Hm... Maybe from seeing it that way. This novel is great enough.

I was surprised at how good this novel is, especially compared to other similar life simulation novels. What appeals to me the most here is that MC doesn't behave like a dumbass (mostly) and has very human emotions properly displayed in the novel. I also like how the novel actually addresses the fact how MC's perception of reality shifts and how he changes because he spends so long in the simulations. What I don't like is that the approximate ratio of simulation to real-world is 80-20. Or basically the novel... more>> spends 80% of the time in the simulation and only 20% of the time in the real world. This leads to "fake" worlds to be more flashed out and detailed while leaving the "real" world very weak and we don't know anything about it.

The simulations. They are detailed and very emotional. They are all written to play on basic human instincts and invoke our emotion from those (like protecting baby girls from harm). In every simulation MC ends up helping out or raising up a girl, who for obvious reasons grows attached to him. He eventually loses his life for the sake of pushing the girl forward towards a bigger future. The girl in turn grows in power, slaughters all enemies and becomes a supreme top level existence in the universe. Every simulation has been like this, which is both a pro and a con. It's a pro because every simulation is interesting and engaging. It's a con because every plot is essentially the same. However, what I also like is that there is a condition for each simulation, there are a limited number of them and MC only does one in several months of in-novel time.

The MC. He is a little bland and can be described as a normal good guy. But I don't think this MC is a Mary Sue type of character. I would say that this MC is just a normal human without any special traits. Yes, MC acts kind to his "family girls", but he is not doing it because he is "suppose to act kind since he is a good guy", but because he genuinely cares for them and wants them to feel good and he loves them for real. He is also mature in mind, so he behaves mature and understanding towards them. But he is not kind to his enemies and has no problem killing and disposing of someone who wishes him or his family harm, he is not going to try and persuade obvious bad guys to live a better life and tell them that they "better than this" or something like that.

The girls. This is kind of another negative for me because all of them have almost identical personalities. None of them are really flashed out in the simulations and all of them have the dominant trait to help MC. Due to their relationship all girls basically develop a dependence on the MC and later on just become extremely clingy and their whole world revolves strictly around him and nothing else. Actually, the author acknowledges it in the simulations as well and portraits it as "MCs failure to raise them well", but this doesn't change the fact that they are still almost the same. I also don't like how they always fight with each other and every time a new girl shows up there is an inevitable confrontation with the other ones from the previous simulations. They don't have a reason to fight since MC is not in a romantic relationship with any of them and they are all clearly on the same side. But this is the only immatur-ish thing in the novel to me, where they are basically going: I love MC, so I will fight and chase away anything of the female gender that approaches 100 mile radius around him.

Overall story. This is the second big negative. The author clearly wants to have some kind of plot happening on Earth. To me, the plot looks kind of similar to "What Do You Do When You Suddenly Become An Immortal?", but this is just my speculation. The biggest issue here is that the author spends so much time developing the simulations, he completely neglects the real world and it becomes very unbalanced. Even though MC would live sometimes for months between simulations, the author just skips the time and dives into the next simulation quickly instead of developing the main world and the simulations really take forever, which also distracts from the main world.

However, I still enjoy reading this a lot, so I am giving it 5 stars and I would recommend it at the very least just for the simulation worlds. <<less

Empty, boring, and one-dimensional.

The characters have no personality whatsoever.

There is no world-building, either on Earth or in the simulations.

Most of the novel is just the narrator fast-forwarding through events, describing what happens year after year.

This isn't just a book about a crippled man going through hardships and attaining the peak, nor is it just about a kind man attaining love. It's also a book about an ordinary man wanting to live a happy, fulfilling, and beautiful life.

This book is not focused on hot-blooded action (though it's definitely there), but it's more about the bonds the MC builds and experiences the MC shares with each of the girls. Though, he definitely had a rough time in the first few simulations, and I'm not afraid to... more>> admit that I teared up a bit toward each simulation ends. However, the emotional turmoil he suffers in each of the simulations only serve to make his moments with the girls even sweeter.

The worldbuilding is quite incredible, both for the simulations and the real Earth. Yeah, the previous reviews are saying that the worldbuilding for the real Earth the MC is in kinda sucks, and I would have agreed if it weren't for a plot twist at the end that nicely ties up the loose end of the Life Simulator and why Earth is the way it is here.

The worldbuilding definitely makes the story much more compelling than if it were just glossed over, but I'd argue that it isn't really that big a deal when it comes to MC's home, because it really only serves as the place where the MC hangs out with the FLs. There isn't even really a point for the real world parts of the book to have action because all the girls are so s*upidly OP that it would only detract from the story.

The characters are all pretty well-written too. The MC isn't the typical CN novel protagonist, and even though he does seek power, he still is willing to sacrifice himself to save those he loves. Quite a rare breed, this protagonist is. The FLs all have their own quirks and personalities too, but all of them have one thing in common: they all love and are devoted to the MC, though the reasons for why differ for each. They also have a rivalry with each other over the MC, which doesn't lead to any major consequences in the story, but it does make me laugh whenever one of them is held back by the others. The side characters are also written quite well here, with all of them having distinct personalities and ways of interacting with the MC. Overall, the story has a lively cast, and they can really tug on your heartstrings at times.

Overall, having finished reading every part, I can say that this is a pretty great novel. I don't really know why it says here that it isn't finished yet when it pretty much is. Like, it's already tied up all the loose ends at c438, and all the remaining ones are extra chapters written in the perspective of all the different characters. I guess it's because the other extra chapters aren't out yet? <<less

This started off really good; reminded me of [Fantasy Simulator] that I liked a lot except the author decided to rush it;

This one is kind of similar ? It is not rushed but the quality and plot decrease as the story continues. I understand it is a harem type novel when I first read, the tag was there. However it should never be allowed for an author not knowing how to write out female character to attempt harem novel where the protagonist is a dense block head; the comedic effect... more>> isn't there not because it didn't resemble your typical harem protagonist block head, but because the female characters, once acquired become so bland that it would have been better had they not followed the main character back to real life altogether.

I can't be too mean on this novel to be completely fair as it totally does fit the category perfectly, character interaction are also... fine when they are on a 1 to 1 basis but interaction and chemistry between 3 or more character is the worst part of this novel I've had to put myself through. <<less
