As expected of Yue Xia Die Ying bringing another and different perspective of political power.

Unlike Die Ying's other novels, this story centers on the noble families in the capitol as they frolic at banquets, plan for marriage, and scheme for their daughters to be Queen.

The pace is not to fast nor too slow and there isn't much exaggerated drama. Both the ML and FL's relationship is much like Die Ying's other stories; monogamy (bless) and respect between partners (as it should).

The author also captures the pride of the nobles well... more>> even as their power is declining and the Imperial power inclines.

Another thing the author captures well is the role a ancient woman plays in the family. There are many women who have no choice but to resign to their fates of being decorationor, a tool, or a baby making machine.

The story is well written, however others may find the story boring because there isn't "in your face detailed" drama and more of a "one line summary" explanation drama.

But it's still a good read ^♡^

This started of so well and I really enjoyed the first like 40 chapters but after the wedding I was literally powering through the book.

I've been thinking about why it disappointed me and I think it's because I was expecting the ML to have more depth and to actually see his ruthlessness but we barely get that. After the wedding also the FL is just kind of flat and depthless and I was kind of annoyed because I generally didn't feel like she was that smart. I guess the whole she's pure and has a good family life reason given made sense at first but honestly after they get married she just kind of is there. I don't understand his obsession. I am so sick and tired of authors using transmigration just for the sake of adding the tag. This is not just relevant to this novel btw. Most times when transmigration is used it is not even relevant to the story, so what exactly is the point. It just feels insincere from the author’s part because it looks like they are just adding it because it is a popular trope. And a lot of novels use it that way to the point where the trope has lost what made it... more>> special in the first place. Also, you want me to believe a modern woman is more adept at ancient china schemes as opposed to someone born and raised in that era? A lot of it just doesn’t make any sense. Just write a good novel and it will speak for itself, you don’t need to resort to cheap gimmicks.

The story itself is very very light, good for taking a break from other bloodbath story. Don’t get me wrong, the characters are reasonable and the setting is quiet solid. The writing is professional. It just that there are not much going on here.

The most heavy part and probably the best part of the writing is that it explains all of reasons behind EACH dialogue and event. I mean EACH of everything. You see, the character... more>> will say or do one thing, then the author will follow that dialogue with 2 3 4 5 paragraphs explaining all reasons and analysis on why that dialogue is being said or why had it be done that way.

Then at chapter 70, those 2 3 4 5 paragraph are taking a toll on story making it seems forever ever for story to unfold or for anything to happen at all.

I am thankful for the analysis. It is as if we could also grow mature from reading these. But after 70 chapters, I just wondering what if human could be simpler mind than that to be happy. <<less

Compared to other stories by this author, this novel flow is not as smooth.

The scenes jump from one to another, leaving me rather confused.

However, perhaps I feel like this because MTL ruined the real meaning of the story. Thus, I'll re-read it again when it's completely translated.

I liked the first three chapters so much I decided to burn my eyes with MTL. Surprisingly, everything was pretty readable. The chapters were very nicely paced, and the characters and relationships are fleshed out pretty well. This is definitely a very warming, Peaceful, drama free, kind of piece of life Novel. I really liked it as it shows The love story between The female lead and the male Lead Since they were lil kids. The female lead is reborn But we do not see as many traits of a modern person On her. There is a very loving family, A very sweet love story And a happy ending. The drama is minimum If you want a very light novel this is it.

I can’t believe it because I loved this author’s other works before but this one.. This one is boring.

It has to do with how sweet the hero and the heroine are. Both of them have really supportive families. The hero is already the emperor and is very much respected. The heroine is really liked by everyone. The hero really loves her and does everything right by society and her to get her to agree to marry him. No tricks. No coercion.

She’s about to enter the palace and become the Empress... more>> and I can’t imagine what kind of issues she might have. The hero already agreed to not have concubines. The empress dowager loves her and supports her. I mean.. What is there to read for? There is no need for revenge. There is nothing to overcome or accomplish.

Maybe something changes in the next chapters to give this story some life but at the moment I completely lost interest. <<less

Very mediocre novel compare to the author other works. MC is transmigrator but honestly the whole story we don't c anything at all that have connection with her future knowledge n MC behave just like any other ancient person there. Maybe beside our MC family everybody else seem so obsessed with status n face n power n wealth. I rlly find it ironic how they always care so much about their face while being the most shameless ppl ever. Like tht old lady was it a princess consort she care so much bout her face n status but being so shameless demanding this n that as if MC n ML owe her anything :v

So yeah NOT having a pleasant time reading this. Even the romance I feel like just a background story while the ugly nature of all the pretentious ppl taking the limelight n focus. Author crying too much about the women injustice back then but she didn't think those concubine they bring it to themself. If they don't agree with their family n get sent to the palace anyway then why can't they just lay low n live normally instead of plotting this n that? While true the life of rich lady not easy what's with having to deal with other concubine but seriously they live better than peasant who's starving. Famine is a serious issue back then while rich men having it easy but poor farmer rely mostly on men's hard labour too. So it's not like men having it easy compare to women. Plot

Personally found it interesting enough to keep me reading. Loved how it felt like I was listening to someone's personal story. The story just flowed smoothly. From the side characters to the main characters. Everyone was their own person with certain traits that identified them. I will warn you, this author isn't shy at all when it comes to killing off their characters. When I tell you the first deaths happened and my jaw dropped.... more>> I was shocked because I genuinely thought those characters would be a big part of the story.

There's plot twists hidden in earlier chapters just waiting to be discovered.

Like this one time where this lady went to see her mother after learning she had commited su*cide. It was mentioned that she didn't have her shoes on. Come to find out, she'd watched her mother die without even trying to stop her. If that isn't as subtle as a hint can get then idk what is. How did the author think so far ahead. Her shoes weren't used as evidence until way later

She's the deceptive type of character. (I mean look at the book cover) She looks innocent but it's mostly for show and because of her innocent face. Her smarts though? This lady is super smart and it's one of my regrets that this novel didn't include more of her dealing with schemes or being the schemer. She is a transmigrator but this aspect is only mentioned once from what I can remember.

I stake claim on him. He's mine yall please don't fight me. Overprotective over his woman, respectful of his in laws, has a badass adopted mother, and isn't shy of showing his feelings despite his status. That's a whole ass yes please package. Don't mind if I do. He's smart and cunning and it's mentioned multiple times how pretty he is. <<less

And how could the Empress Dowager suddenly summoned her, even she did not meet MC ever? And even never meet, it's like the Empress Dowager already like the MC.

Many part is not explained with details, make me 'wonder why suddeny it happened, why suddenly they died'. 🙄🙄 Even the rebellion part is just like 'that'. Make me think that this part whatever there is.

Author also make the ML past story is so dark. But I did not feel there is an impact on his personality. And also there is no struggling as an emperor. He is just like already knew all the secret in the palace, even in this story he is just a kid. <<less

I will correct the summary tho, the Emperor (Jin Yang/ML) was the tyrant and black belly. He was sickly and disguised himself as delicate... he was known as kind and good leader but he's actually cold and scheming. His only weakness was the FL which he pampered and doted well.

Meanwhile FL (Gu Ru Jiu) can't be considered as tyrant or blackbelly like the summary described... she's actually real on being lazy and kind but she's not fool and innocent like others think bc of pampering and spoiling of her family... more>> & ML she received. She's considered as luckiest character here bc everyone loves her. She knew how to scheme but only when needed.

I actually enjoyed this novel. I like the leads' interaction/relationship and also many characters got depth, not all members of greedy families were the same... however, the con was there many characters as passerbys and forgotten. Also some schemes were not well-explained and some supposed to be revelations were "anti-climatic". <<less

Porridge novel. No drama, pure pampering. Tbo there's not much to say bcs there are no waves to it. The usual mainland superiority when mentioning smaller countries and other peoples is present, as well as the magical pregnancy experience.

It is seriously a great piece of work. The written is excellent you can feel the emotions of the characters. It is not solely focussed on the MC and ML but various characters are given character depths.

Honestly in my case it was a roller coaster ride. The plots we're good and I couldn't predict the flow of the novel given the character uncertainty. It is also tragic that it will make you cry.

It is not a soft novel with legit character justifications and their depth.

Another thing which I really liked... more>> was the time frame. Starting from the death of the emperor to the end the time frame is very carefully maintained so that you could also feel the time passed.

The phrases used are good. Like pearl and Jade title came from how the ML treated the MC. It is mentioned in later chapters.

Ugh just completed this piece of work and now I am sad I have completed it....

i was confused with the summary I thought FL is a tyrant and viscous person who kills people but it wasn't like that its just she look like a innocent and simple minded person who doesn't know anything about worldly affairs but in reality she was intelligent person and know what to do

This novel is a standard Mary Sue plot novel. Since the author set the pace like this, I have no expectations and with a lack of expectations nothing worse would surprise me and can enjoy the novel with its mediocrity.

As someone who enjoyed history so much this novel has a modern take on ancient china emphasising strong female characters and a strong mindset on monogamous relationship, repeatedly pointing its views of romanticism of having one soulmate.

Such idealism seems out of place with the conservative-male driven society and polygamous ancient china.... more>> It seems the author poured out its hatred in these customs that opressed the women. But who wouldn't enjoy reading a novel where this chuvanistic mindset were being trampled. In which the main villain of the story were the culture and traditions of ancient china.

Afterall it emphasised a feministic views it can't escaped the claws of preferring male-born. All the female characters gave birth to male-firstborn. Since this novel tried to dismantle the "ancient china" in a way it just contradicted its longstanding narrative against its customs.

Overall it was a good read without thinking too much deeply with its storyline as the twist and turns of some plots were wrapped up just to give its closure. <<less

I like it. It was a short story about how an emperor who lacked love found love and how he stabilized his status as the emperor. There's struggles and, of course, rainbow after the rain.

As what you'll expect in ancient settings, it has politics and scheming. It can't be avoided since one of the main characters is an emperor. Speaking of characters, I think the word "tyrant" doesn't really suit Jiu Jiu. The word tyrant made me relate it to someone physically strong and good at fighting. So, please don't... more>> misunderstand like me.

There's also different POVs throughout the novel that make me wanna cry. Their story was just unfortunate and worth crying over. I can't help but sigh at their endings.

Overall, it's a good novel. I really like the author since I've also read her other works which I love. And she didn't disappoint with this one. <<less
