Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

“He only knows how to quarrel with his older brother every day. He is arrogant and willful!”

“He looks good, but unfortunately, he is an idiot.”

“Isn’t he a useless person? Just serve him well.”

“It is a pity about that child of the Chen family.”

There were the group of scoundrel friends who were full of thoughts, the rats eyeing him covetously and the old, cunning people who were secretly scheming.

Chen Qizhao put on a mask of arrogance again. ‘Do you like acting so much? Why don’t we act together?’

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

Author does a great job when she write about family struggles and business wars. Just that I really hope ML can be less bland and have a personality though

MC is great, alot of emotional turmoils he had to faced when he was reborn, it a was a great struggle to save his family in this new reborn life. But he did everything he needed to do to protect his love ones

I love Mc's family, they really cared about MC, MC just didnt realize and don't know what happened during... more>> his teen years. I wish we had more of his reputation being clean up and gets everybody's respect #which he does in a way but not in a wild area. We know why but I just wish you know that useless son label turn into something epic against everbody

I like the novel it was good read. I love the MC's scheming and I love how the family all tide together and face their enemies. There was like 100 spies in the whole company damn it was a struggle. Thought next time author please add some personality to ML! <<less

3.5. First part was a solid 4 - scheming was good and had great plot development but some parts were soooo slooowww. Too slice of life in terms of the 2 leads just circling each other and noticing their slender finger joints and adams apple. Just felt it was boring. Plus ML being this scientist but you really have no idea what the hell he actually researches just that he does lots of experiments and works overtime. Again, boring. Extras are usually my fav but the extras here were sooo... more>> long and so slow and really added nothing, just more of their circling and glancing at each others hands, neck whatever body parts while blinking slowly. Ugh. I kept skimming and skipping but after 10 chp, they were still just talking about nothubg. Most boring romance ever. How did this novel get sich high reviews????!!! I finally had to call it quits. Translation was great and first part was worth reading, just skim through the boring parts. <<less

Good story, good portrayal, interesting perspective, but felt long (imo). This is the story that is really heavy on the plot and the romantic relationship between MC and ML is quite subtle.

What is a big shining point? Subjectively, because it's all personal opinion :) Not saying this just because it's different and no other story I've read about rebirth had it, there are some stories which also pick it up, but it feels quite real when we get MC who is confused how to feel about his rebirth, has a... more>> lot going on on his mind and is not beaming with confidence and smartness being very happy that now he can protect his beloved family. This is the part of his portrayal, but also indicates part of the character who he was against. A lot of work was done on his charecterization not only through the eyes of many people around him, but also his own feeling of self-loathing almost. What about his portrayal? And why Qizhao is like that. Many called Qizhao a fool in the story and looked down on him. From the point of view of smartness Qizhao actually is not, but he's not shrewd, his biggest flaw was youth and inability to read people, to guard against conspiracies. This is why he was plotted against so easily. When it comes to his family it could have been a normal family relationship, he could have grown up and realized that his father is not bad, he's just strict, yet also upright, he doesn't really know how to communicate with his children outsde of work, his mother is a kind lady and his brother actually cares about him, but growing up in such environment he also doesn't know how to express it well, but what happened to them did not allow him to walk through the process of normal growth, he did not have adaptation period when the tragedy hit their family, only later through hits and bumps he saw the world and people as they truly are.

And although he is reborn now, but he knows the dangers of such a big conspiracy that was plotted against their family, yet he can't do anything at the moment about it. He may know the future, but does it matter? Can he truly prevent everything just because he knows it? Maybe that's a great appeal of such a rebirth story, that not everything is a matter of convenience. That he doesn't walk around with confidence and defeats enemies left and right in a day or two. And this novel truly has a sense of time. He can only slowly hint and point, probe and investigate to direct his family to pay attention to potential dangers they were not aware of prior. It eventually showed that not everything was uncovered by him in his last life. But he lives under tremendous stress day by day, being afraid that something will happen to his family, because he already lost them once. For others what he talks about is a probability, but for him it was a reality. So the story has a sense of inner tension that Qizhao goes through. He also blames himself a whole lot, because he knows that everything started from that fateful project he was asked to invest. Because he wasn't shrewd enough to see that the one who is helping on the surface is actually the one who ruined their family. Now he can do something just because he knows these things. Though in reality you can't really guard against everyone, that's too paranoid.

What is also interesting is the family relationship, because of his rebirth the family did not convert into some sappy bunch of people who felt love all day long and express it, excluding the mother who is the main comforting link between all members you know these people care about each other, but it's a bit awkward anyway. Although Qizhao is quite overfilled with blame, but some of it is directed at his father and brother too. Not in a negative way. He regards both of them very highly (like he often mentions his brother especially that he should have been a proud son of heaven and that his vision was what helped him to make a comeback), but he also wants them to open their eyes too, he considered them so smart why they put their guard down so much, didn't see the true face of a so-called friend or people who work under them.

And you'd be surprised that his anchor point that allowed him to settle down isn't his family, don't get me wrong, he loves them, but he doesn't know how to connect with them now that he went through so much. But Shen Yuhuai is a different case. With Yuhuai they became friends when the Shen family were the only ones that helped him when he was in trouble or made a comeback and Yuhuai was there when he was at his breaking point. Through several years they had this friendship he depended on and now it is the same. But eventually this feeling evolved into love. I can't say I had the feeling of fateful lovers from them, more like the strong feeling of compatibility they had and were not aware of before. Although I admit comparing to the entire plotline their romantic development is subtle.

I wrote about Qizhao so much because as MC he really occupies a big chunk of this novel. As for the plot you have to see it for yourself, it's all business. Because it occupies the other big chunk of the novel and is a center piece it's not vague like many other novels where you can't even tell what industry MC or ML belong to :'D

As for its' length, to some it may be quite a dynamic novel with many ups and downs. To me it wasn't the case, I had a feeling of mulling at times. In real life things are not done in a day or two, so I applaude that the confrontation had a sense of time, but the feeling of mulling over things might have come from descriptions and repetition of some things. Again, it's all subjective, it's all my own feelings, maybe someone read it in one breathe because they were so excited about it :)

In general it's a good read, if you look for something like this. It's a journey, not only a plot journey, but also psychological journey of the main character with the ability to finally be free and shake off the burden that weighed down on Qizhao for the entire time. <<less

I usually hated it when a novel is about to end but for this one, I just wanted it to end but it kept on going without much progress after so many chapters. I almost dropped it after the MC was diagnosed with depression because it felt like the author used such a sensitive topic as a plot device to develop the relationship of the MC and ML (testament to their lack of tack). After they got together (simply because the MC practically offered himself), he got better.... more>> All along, he was just sexually deprived.

What I also hated the most was the MC habit to lie for every little thing. It was uncalled for given his past experience but for him, it's fine if he lies but not when people lie to him (such double standards). <<less

As many other comments have said, the translation of this story isn't actually that good, but it's also not that bad and still readable.

The plot of this story itself is actually very good, but I really hate how MC always turns s*upid when dealing with ML.

I mean, yes I understand that in your previous life he was always there for you and so on, but that can't be an excuse to make you always fixated and forget everything when you were with him.

Spoiler

There are many scenes where MC is in a crisis situation, and he should be focused on the problem at hand... but every time this happens ML will suddenly appear and MC will be busy thinking about his past with ML while acting like a fool.

I mean MC character setting is someone who has a severe anxiety disorder regarding the safety of his family, but somehow that setting is forgotten every time ML appears, and the crisis problem also somehow feels paused.

Luckily this didn't change their character setting too much, or this story would have been completely ruined.

This is a novel where I genuinely enjoyed both the romance and the plot.

The plot is cohesive, the events line up perfectly, and the face-slapping isn't over the top. It doesn't get repetitive and the plot events are pretty solid.

The romance was also kinda nice, the general flow of it was natural, and I liked their chemistry, and the ML in general was just, really nice. Not the usual you'd see in romance genres, at least. For the ML, he actually doesn't really have character development in the story like... more>> other major characters do (correct me if I'm wrong), but I didn't really find him uninteresting or 2d. He wasn't deep, but I enjoyed him enough to like him.

I really like how the family in this novel. There was drama that didn't capitalise off of misunderstandings. What a surprise! Yeah. I just really like their relationship in all. It was a nice breather from uneccesary, terrible and overdone family drama in other novels.

Overall, just a really nice novel that I'd recommend. <<less

MTL Completed (main story), readability 90%.

It's been awhile since I found a worthwhile danmei to read.

Both MC and ML were great, had good chemistry, intelligent and not OP.

Though the backbone of MC 'spies' was not explained clearly, they're the true hidden card that MC had.

Great.

Scheme, conspiracy, drama, suspense. The romance part is really nice; slow romance indeed, but this pace is more realistic. No OP character here.

Thank you for the translation!

I've already read quite a few rebirth danmei and this is one of the better ones. There are rebirth stories where the protagonist just didn't want to repeat the same mistakes from their last life and chose to avoid them, or not taking the initiative to attack the villains as long as they're not provoked. But this one focused more on revenge. Well, if he really wanted to have a good second life, no amount of avoidance could help him and only revenge can really make him achieve... more>> a peaceful life. Actively making a move is the only way so retaliation is inevitable.

Maybe what I loved the most about this novel is the realistic family dynamic. Chen family is the perfect example of 'not liking your family doesn't necessarily means you don't them'. After losing his family in the first life one after another, you might think that after the MC was given a chance to go back in time, he would rushed to hug his family and show them how much he loved and missed them. But no because that's not him. He has a tough and stubborn personality and his loss and rebirth wouldn't be able to change his core behavior. He's quite distant with his family even in his first life and I'm actually glad that it was not an instant loving family after he came back. The MC, his brother and his father are all emotionally awkward and it's really fascinating to see them quarelling but deep inside, they care for each other so genuinely. The family part is actually my favorite part of this novel.

The romance might not be the focus of the story, but I'm still glad it's there because the MC really need this balance in his emotions. To exact his revenge, he's given all his energy, physically, mentally and emotionally, and having the ML by his side who's like his silent comfort really helped him a lot. It's a really slow burn romance and it's just perfect for his situation.

The main villains are also not brain-dead. They're all smart and calculative, because if not, the whole Chen family would not be caught unaware of their conspiracy in the first life. Even with how clever and ruthless the MC is, his biggest advantage is really his knowledge about the first life and also that his wit is hidden well, so he's mostly underestimated. But if the fact that he's the mastermind is out in the open, it would be harder for MC to achieve his goal.

I highly recommend this one to everyone, as long as you're emotionally stable. This one really hit hard in some parts. <<less

Personal Enjoyment: 4.9/5

I really enjoyed this! I love the more realistic and grounded experience of the whole rebirth experience. You know how in lots of other rebirth stories, whenever the MC shows the more serious and depressing parts of being rebirth (normally in some tiny throwaway sentences), it would elevate the whole story from just an all-sugar-no-substance type of story? Well, this one is all substance! But you don't lose what makes a rebirth story great ;) I love it all. The MC was so cool and cunning.... more>> But we get shown with every single sentence (shown not told!) how much he loves his family. And how much his family loves him! Even with all the typical Asian family awkwardness hehe. Coming from a wealthy family doesn't change that dynamic haha.

Short Summary: A revenge/protect those he loves rebirth story.

Plot: 4.9/5

Very good! I love all the excitement and suspense. And I love love love all of the mc's plotting and hidden actions and especially the pretending to be a waste schemes. Nice. I love how the author woved in the cause of all this was the trauma of losing everyone he cares about while he was powerless. This is such a driving force of all his actions in this new life. And how the trauma affects him now. But it's not as grim dark a story as all this talk of trauma implies though. This is still a second-chance story. The story is full of the MC randomly feeling happy family feels without realising why (back to that awkward uncommunicative Asian family dynamics lol) because he keeps realising anew that his family is alive now. All the things they would do for/to him that was gone are back. Sniff.

Writing/Translation: 3.8 /5

The translation I read is from White Moonlight Novels. It is not very good but better than MTL. There were multiple times when I didn't really understand the whole sentence. Normally the business scheming side of things. I get the gist but once or twice the specific details got lost in translation. But it's at least edited MTL quality. So understandable most of the time. Not a dealbreaker and I encourage everyone to just read it anyway.

Pacing: 4.9/5

Good pacing, I never felt that it was slow or draggy.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 4.5/5

Lots of variety in the setting. And they felt utilised to advance the plot.

Characters: 5/5

I love all the characters. Especially the MC and his family! The motivations were all clear and I love how that affected their personalities. And the ML. He feels like a real person lol. No one was an NPC-type character. They all had their own interest and they were all realistic and like real people.

Romance: 4/5

The romance is above average. I liked the build up a lot. It's a late romance because the MC is too distracted by his goal. And that there were no obvious top/bottom dynamics. Just a bit in the extras though but eh it's fine. My complaint was that it was just a little bit too much show not tell lolol. The writing tells what physical feelings the MC and ML feel and lets us interpret what exactly they are feeling in terms of the romance. Until late in the story anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. From the characters to the plot, I liked everything about it. There weren’t two-dimensional characters and the plot was carefully planned and executed.
Spoiler

I liked the fact that Chen Qizhao developed mental issues due to the past life. Some novels tend to just brush the past life off since the main character can now restart and experience a new life.

I also liked how he mentioned that his friends abandoned him in his previous life but in the current life, he never retaliated and they actually became really close friends.

Shen Yuhuai is one of the best male leads you will ever read in a c-novel. He is gentle, understanding, caring, and protective. Communication was never a problem with them because he never allowed it to be. He, in fact, taught Chen Qizhao to communicate with his family. It’s also hilarious how CQZ’s friends react like they’re facing an elder when SYH appears.

I absolutely love this book. Paced very well, no cliche tropes, and not your usual face-slapping. Everything was done with clear calculations, no rush, and the pacing was amazing! The love between the ML and MC was so sweet as well, even though it was quite slow, I believe it was just right especially because of MC’s background. This story is just full of healing and fluff, and made me really think a lot about family. 10/10 I’ll definitely reread this!!!

Frankly, this novel was better than I expected, it was a more nuanced version of the trope. Starting with-:

  • MC-: he had already obtained his revenge in his last life
    Spoiler

or so he thought *wink wink*

    [collapse]
So the plot focuses not only on the revenge aspect but also on his psychological problems for the ordeal he went through. He is a traumatized baby lol. He also doesn't think highly of himself and feels useless which kind of shows how much he put his dad and brother on a pedestal even if he fought with them almost daily in his previos life.
  • His family-: MC, in his teenage years was a problem child so when he turned into his 'calm, sensible' personality I fully expected his family to maybe be a bit surprised but ultimately happy and relieved. But this is where the story shines, his family (especially his mom) noticed that it's not a good thing to 'mature' overnight and took him to the psychologist. After learning his issues his family all tried to change bit-by-bit to better make the MC feel loved and cared for. If we are talking individually-:
  • His brother-: He is a classic tsundere. He deeply cares for his family and knows his responsibilities but doesn't like to outright show them and can come as a harsh and not understanding older brother. The MC and his brother mostly bicker but it changed around ch77 in which MC directly tells his brother his thoughts.
  • His parents-: Mama is very loving and supporting person who throughout the entire story is a sweetheart. His father is a typical strict dad but he also sees the negative impact it made on his children and tries to change them.
  • ML-: He is gentle but stern. He isn't in finance but is a chemist (?). He is the most understanding person and treats the MC as such. I also loved how he realised that the MC was lying but didn't expose him in several occasions. I really liked their romance- no miscommunication, they handled their feeling nicely. I really liked his sister too.
But of course this has some points it is weak in like-:

  • Villains-: it didn't make sense to me how easily they were defeated (It took the whole story but still for a 10 year long plan it was surprising easily to deconstruct) also the suprise villains weren't really ever a threat. But there was enough foreshadowing before any twists happened so ig that's something. Also this story mainly deals with the mc's trauma so they aren't really the focal point of the story.
  • The translation-: Mostly it's great, but sometimes there are some mistakes in characters name so it's a bit hard to understand.
  • They never explain the time-travel-: Like I get it is common in these types of stories but seriously are we just going to ignore that something almost scientifically impossible happened!! Also the MC is set as this pessimistic, untrusting dude but never questioned this?! I always get a bit scared when the time travel is not explained as there is a chance that this is all a hallucination of the MC he made to cope with the loss.
Still, this story was great and a bit emotional at times making for a great casual read. Also (emphasizing it again) this is more like a healing story than a revenge story so that can be a reason why some places are not fleshed out. As a healing story it is first class and does magnificent!

Simply beautiful, such a beautifully written and moving novel.

I think it is one of the few danmei novels that take depression and anxiety seriously, by seriously I mean that they are not cured with the power of love but with therapy, time and company.

Besides that, I love how the mc's path is written, how he started and how he ended up being, his evolution and process as a person.

I think this novel highlights a lot the problem of communication and how things can change with it, this is something that... more>> unites your family and it is something gradual, it is not that out of nowhere all your problems are resolved.

And it is so real in some parts that it moves me, I cried for everything he had to go through and I cried at the end when I empathized with him and was happy for him, really, he deserves all the best.

Going on the romance side, it has nothing to envy of the best danmei novels. Even though it is not purely a romantic novel, their dynamic as a couple is very beautifully written. They complement each other even though they are both "quiet." Neither of them resembles some of the danmei character stereotypes, each has their own distinct personality and together they make a beautiful couple.

I could say a lot of things about this novel, but if you are reading this I hope you read this novel and form your own opinion because it is really worth it. <<less

This was so good. I felt so bad for the MC, he went through so much and even after his rebirth, the emotional burden was so heavy and he had to carry it alone because it's not like he can just tell anyone about it. It's a good thing that his family and friends could help him.

I also love how their relationship developed. It felt very natural. The ML is more mature than the MC but he doesn't interfere and just lets the MC do his thing while he supports... more>> on the side. His gentleness and accomodation helped a lot in easing the MC's psychologist burden and gradually heal.

The family dynamics were very interesting and it was nice to see them getting through the storms together despite their conflicts, and eventually learning to patch up their relationship. <<less

i am more lenient in giving 5 stars to novels. I based it on the tags and chracter development of characters. This novel is kinda heavy considering our MC had a tragic 1st life. There's some light undertones when he's pretending to be a dandy rich 2nd generation but people will eventually realize that he is more than that. His protectiveness for his family and for shen huhu. This is more fleshed out than other novels about rebirth. There is a BIG impact of rebirth to MC, take note that... more>> there's the major tag of Psychological. And wow for the twist and turns of the villains. The main problem goes way way abck and its our MC who slowly unfolds it. Connecting what he experienced on his 1st life

i mtled it like 100+ chap, HE of course but there's extra chaps for diff ending. Anyways our MC deserves a happy ending for the tragedies that he suffered. Well thats what's nice for rebirth/2nd life but in reality we only have 1 life. <<less

Really good. The suspense and conspiracies in the start really hit me hard and each time, the plot was building up to a greater hand behind. I really loved how the author balanced the scheme plot and the romance plot, and I also loved the sweetness between the MC and ML at the end and how the ML really takes care of the MC as he is struggling. I did feel that it would be better if the MC had told the ML about his rebirth, so that he could... more>> actually have someone who believes him to share it with, and they could have helped each other. However, most importantly, the fact that the author really took the issue of the MC's illness seriously and gave him time to actually get out of it and rest was really different from several other rebirth stories. Just loved this novel. <<less

done. This story is good, it's really my taste hahaa.. The plot revolves around MC who wants to fix his past, and I really like the MC character here really! He's tough because of his youth experience, he handles things alone quietly huh even though it's known to everyone in the end. But I really like that! I did not expect to like this story so much. It's actually a little slice-of-life, the emotional line is very subtle and realistic. One of my favourite novels for sure!

I find this novel very full of substance (business/plot-development is so meaty!) while not lacking the presence of the ML as well. Although the romance is a back-burner, it's subtle and has a very cute 'crushing' feeling to it.

I honestly really like how I kept expecting things to 'wrap up' in a dramatic way, like in other novels, 'oh I'll be... more>> everything to you don't worry about it!' / 'oh don't worry, I'll take care of you for life!' or some unrealistic explanation to resolve situations -- but actually, it doesn't do that. This novel is amazing, and it feels good. I don't feel queasy reading the family atmosphere even though they're not 'close' as other novels, I actually find it refreshing that it felt.. Realistic. It felt nice. Unrealistic fantasy of a 'perfect' family or even just -- a family that doesn't cling to one another and love each other completely, although there's care -- it's hard to show. I find this so gratifying to read, and I felt good. I like this novel a lot.

It's underrated and subtle, but I think this novel creeps up on you like spring rain. It's a very nice novel. <<less

I felt really really bad for the MC’s past life like he really had no one with him like ML was there to help but he disappeared too and MC didnt even realize his feelings for him before he left and he just supressed his feelings after he left...

When he rebirthed too, I felt bad for him. Although he did have a new life and changed his past but he was still so trapped that I just cried for him. I loved his outburst when confronting his family. I know they wouldnt believe it but atleast he got to say it?? Anyways. Fortunately his family is with him now, fortunately his love can accompany him in this life.

Ugh the extras about the parallel universe where ML didnt die was so bittersweet. When MC asked “It would look ugly if you put a wedding ring on it.” (something along these lines cuz his left hand had a big scar) really just broke me. He was so insecure and I’m glad ML was there for him.
