Chen Qizhao was reborn and returned to the age of 18 when he was still the wicked little overlord of the Chen family.

At this time, his brother hadn’t experienced a car accident while his parents were in good health and weren’t seriously ill. The Chen family was still the prosperous Chen family and everyone thought he was a good-for-nothing who was useless and easily taken advantage of.

“He only knows how to quarrel with his older brother every day. He is arrogant and willful!”

“He looks good, but unfortunately, he is an idiot.”

“Isn’t he a useless person? Just serve him well.”

“It is a pity about that child of the Chen family.”

There were the group of scoundrel friends who were full of thoughts, the rats eyeing him covetously and the old, cunning people who were secretly scheming.

Chen Qizhao put on a mask of arrogance again. ‘Do you like acting so much? Why don’t we act together?’

It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered that at the end of the play, they would either go bankrupt or be imprisoned.

This is a revenge-driven and family-oriented novel. There is not much BL until the latter half.

It has a very clear and logical progression of events. The past and present life was wonderfully intertwined with the present knowledge and discovered secrets. The schemes and conspiracies were well-written.

Spoiler

I love how the MC has psychological problems. It is very reasonable after what he went through.

Very meticulous and detailed plot, with an amazing MC with 3d side characters and their complex interrelationships.

Spoiler
  • MC seems a very realistic person.
  • It seemed very realistic how he suppressed himself and didn't leaked out emotions, keeping things all to himself and became all quiet and plotted things in secret.
  • After going back to 18, he didn't immediately rushed out crying and making a scene after meeting his parents and elder brother and go OOC acting all sticky and talkative with his family like usually happens in rest of rebirth novels.
  • It was very meticulously shown how distant he was with his family as they didn't spent quality family time together for bonding. So he quietly sometimes accompanied his mom to watch TV or eat meals with them, His rebirth didn't make him go OOC like I have seen in rest of the novels. Though he did cared for them.
  • MC as a person was a meticulous guy who properly plotted things and gradually came to know about the hidden knives pointing at his family. He wasn't all knowing OP God.

Spoiler

Considering the romance part, it was slow burn, and satisfying. It was how ML and MC got along from hi hello acquaintances to friends to lovers. And their chemistry and interactions always carried a subtle spark and serial tension with a sense of comfort and romanticism as many a times they silently accompanied eachother.

  • ML wasn't cold aloof guy, nor he was overbearing with a sense of superiority and seeing MC as little cute rabbit or a kitten as someone mentioned above. (Such description of MC in bg or bl are my pet peeves)
  • Both of them gave space to eachother and never interfered or spied into eachother's matters.

I felt it was an almost perfect story. But after that, something feels different and I couldn't connect with the characters the same way.

I did enjoy the build up and revenge though. It feels like a fresh and different kind of story.

Very plot-wise with slow burn romance. I love how it shows the previous life heavily affect MC and how the family notice his changes and didn't brushed it off like other novels. I like how the father and eldest son are working together with reborn MC and take him seriously.

I really like it but I will take a break bc their dialogue about anxiety is triggering me 😬

Keywords where I left off (?) : out of the hospital, returning to school, confessing some secrets to ML (he can eat green onions, likes Coke, drinks cold beer; his well-behaved facade is crumbling).

I only read up to 112, the end of the main story. I just wanted to say that this rebirth novel is a little heavy, both plot-wise and the on emotions of the MC. I think this is the first time I read a rebirth novel where a character actually feels such a strong connection to his previous life. This might be a trigger warning, so I'm going to just say it without a spoiler: there are themes of depression and severe mental issues (also su*cide of a side character).... more>> The novel was well written, in my opinion. However, this book is more plot heavy than romantic. It basically includes a lot of corporate (espionage?) and business issues, which went over my head at times. Probably not something you want to read if you're looking for fluff. <<less

dudeee, ive been giving out too many five stars but this one deserves it... I didnt expect to cry at ALL because 1. ive always been cautious about rebirth novels and 2. ive never been too big about high society danmeis. but literally this crossed out all my expectations for those two genres. forget whatever preconception I used to have, this one defied it all.

when I tell you I cried so hard at this novel I mean it. to start off, the characters are very well written, especially the main... more>> character. he's powerful and smart but he's also a very reasonably flawed character and it's obvious where his strengths and weaknesses lie. these impact the story significantly and the plotlines that come from this are super well written. there's lots of internal character conflict and also external conflict and the author does a perfect job of balancing these two.

now onto my personal opinion. HOLY sh*t THIS STORY MADE ME SO EMOTIONAL. the family dynamic is so relatable and the characters themselves are so well written. I f*cking love how you can see perfectly well how each character struggles to accurately express themselves. especially the MC, who has seen his family die once and won't let it happen again. although you don't get that much content of his past life you can see how his character developed and changed from who he used to be through how hard he works to keep his family alive now. and that, of course, leads to actual proper communication and the strengthening of familial bonds. it's super endearing. and don't even get me started on the ML because their story made me so emotional. the ML isn't just a saving grace that swoops in to help the MC in the worst of times, even though thats exactly what he did. he plays a bigger part in the story than that and I loved watching how the two of them got together (though it took a fairly long amount of time... haha)

lastly, the plot. as I said ive always been wary of rebirth plots and high society plots but this surprised me! the business mindgames were actually very fun and interesting to read about and the MC handled it with such finesse that I couldn't help but get invested in the story. even if you don't typically like business and high society like me, I recommend you to give this novel a try. it's worth it, I promise. and as for the rebirth, it's not as complicated as some other novels that might involve rebirth. on the contrary, it's actually just an opportunity for the MC to fix what he knows he did wrong in the past life. that makes it super heartwarming because you can see how he yearns for what he lost in the past life.

i cried so hard at this novel. its simultaneously gutwrenching and heartwarming. highly recommend!! <<less

I love how this book had me on the edge on my seat. It was a first for me to not even care about the romance- because the plot is tense enough for me to enjoy the gradual development of their relationship.

The portrayal of the MC is good. You can feel the sadness, pain, and trauma he underwent. It was all raw emotions. I feel like what happened to him was not a character development, it was the reality of a situation that forces a person to mature. And it's... more>> natural for it to happen because of his first life. I think he was never bad to begin with, he was actually very clever. Maybe the pressure and outside influence affected him to "rebel" and create his tyrant prince personality but on hindsight he still values his family. Maybe sarcasm is his love language lol

The long journey to revenge was a solid 4 out of 5. The romance is super cute. Had me feeling butterflies for the subtle nuances and touches. And I feel like everybody screamed during their first kiss because F*CKING FINALLY! All in all it was a great read.

Highly recommended!!!

As you know there are many rebirth stories. They get a cheat sheet after going back in time, so they happily bully their enemies and live a happy life. That is what happens in most of the stories.

BUT!!! This book is DIFFERENT!!!

The MC goes back to the time when he was 18. He suffers mentally from his loss of family members in his previous life. Instead of being happy having them back, he is anxious of losing them again. Well, after seeing family members who died, have come back... more>> to life again, you might expect him to show his love more, hug the mother, get close to his father, stop quarrelling with brother. But that was not what happened in this book.

The boy was a bad one in his previous life. After living for more than 30 years like that, when he turned 18 again, he did not want to be that ignorant boy again. He did not want to be lovey-dovey and be a good boy either. He cannot be the good boy because he knew all are gonna die and he has to live with that fear. His personality was already fixed from his past life. It was impossible to pretend in front of others after what he went through, when he knew it will happen again.

It is not that after he came back, he ignored his family, it was just that, he kept all inside and silently fought to keep his family alive. His words were always cold and was like picking a fight. He was worried about his family more than anyone. The difference was his words were not sugar coated and was very blunt. But that is his nature.

In most of the books, after living a devastating life, some reborn people can come back like nothing happened. But here it was realistic. He previous life was traumatic so he was always burdened by the memories, sinking in the tragic past events. Even in that kind of situation he still held on, trying to send the villains into prisons so they cannot harm anyone he loves. After doing all of that he fell apart. The mentality was so realistic.

As for the ML, he was like the ray of sunshine in MC's both lifetimes. He was able to bring him back to light from his dark nightmares. He stayed by the MC silently, was considerate, did not try to persuade the MC or question him in anyway. He just made sure that MC was okay and nothing will happen to him. That was the way he cared about him and showed his love.

MC's family interactions in the novel are a plus point. How the family members tried change themselves and tried to reduce the awkwardness was amusing. Even the arguments were worth re-reading. It was not that they were bad to the MC. Everyone in the family loved the boy, the MC. It was just that they did not know how to get along with the MC who suddenly changed.

The plot was well planned, it was very satisfying to read how the bad guys were punished. Although the romance is silently flowing along with the plot, most of the times it was about the business schemes, bad guys trying to kill the MC's family. Everything in the novel made actual sense, unlike some novels. Everyone had brains. Even in that kind of situation, there were still some jokes that can make the readers smile.

If you are looking for a serious reading with an amazing plot, you MUST TRY this!!! It is totally worth your time. <<less

this is first and foremost a corporate espionage revenge story. Literally it is 99% of the story. Even the romance is sandwiched between more and more corporate interests and familial gains.

this is not to say it’s bad, in fact it’s very well written. The mystery comes in layers. The author does a good job of really fleshing out the motivations of MC due to his past life’s mistakes. In fact... she REALLY doesn’t let you forget it.

but it’s really quite slow and drags a fair bit. By chapter 70+ I... more>> was very ready for the corporate espionage part to be over. The romance doesn’t kick in until really late and the burn is SLOWWWWWW even though it’s quite cute and sweet when you get to it.

if you want a smart read with lots of twists and turns, go for it. But if you’re looking for a fun flirty romantic read, this is not it. <<less

Super good revenge novel. Loved how the author didn't just magically erase the MC's trauma from his previous life and showed us the aftermath of it. Like how his character changed and how he cares so much about his family and the ML that he's always in an anxious mood. I also love the MC's mom!! The way she notice the difference in the MC's personality and signs of the MC not being in a good mental state. Most of all, I love the ML because throughout the whole novel,... more>> he has been extremely patient and doting whether it's the past or present life. <<less

I think this is one of the few novels that deals with the trauma of losing someone realistically.

Yeah, the MC is reborn but he still lived his previous life, experience and knowledge exist and is brought over and I feel that nothing is glossed over.

I really love the novel, the pace and characters were great.

I only wish the siblings of the main couple got to marry too. But oh well...

It’s bit too slow but it’s a nice pace.

I love how the romance is not that much but when the teasing comes, it’s like so goddamn hot and makes me giggle.

The extras are nice to give bit closure of “what if” situation.

There are some reasons why I can’t give it full star

Spoiler
  • some repetitions of how elder brother is better than the younger brother is too much. I got it, one is “good” one is “not”
  • I love that they try to address the MC’s issue to therapy, but I’m sad that they just can’t believe about the dream. Although later MC’s brother seemed to somehow “accept” but not much was mentioned
  • The childhood part of MC and ML keeps being mentioned and here I thought that the reason why MC can go back is somehow related to ML, but alas nothing was mentioned
  • the Yan brothers give me in*est vibe lol, not complaining for that, what I’m tired is how the younger keeps whining and the older is too restrictive.
  • i wish that MC will tell ML about what happened. I’m sure ML will understand
[collapse]

All in all, I enjoy this and SYH may not be the best ML, but he’s surely one of the greenest one. Hehe

It's Ended PERFECTLY and Satisfying and I'm Soooooooooooooo Relieved!!!

The Journey MC had gone through in both Revenge and Mental Health aka Trauma he beared...

I'm so Glad he's not alone. Both ML and MC's Family Support and Help him. Care and Loving him so Much!!!

... more>> The Family Feels and Familial Love are Soooo Freaking Good in this novel! They're not Coddling him nor it's 'Fluff'. But it was much more Meaningful and so much Precious!

They don't 'hide' their 'affection', though they don't Overload/Overdoing it.

Seriously the story might be about Revenge, but it's also because MC want to protect him family SOOOOOOOO MUUUUCH That really need to defeat everyone who wronged them. He's not thinking about his own pain, but his mental and feelings were for his Family and ML's Safety.

So yeah, the revenge were not just for the Anger he had feel, but the Loneliness he felt and the Sadness when he watch all his family died one by one.

The author did Amazing job writing his Trauma and Anxiety become Depression part. Sad scene but very well writing. Not overdoing it nor it easily healed whatsoever.

ML here was Super Supportive and Super Helpful even without being a Domineering figure like many usual novel. He's Absolutely Great and Absolutely Perfect for our MC.

Anyway no Plot Twist but the Novel was Intense and Well executed.

It's ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT and I'm ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOVING IT FOREVER WITH MY ETERNAL LOVE AND SOUL FOE ETERNITY AND BEYOND IN ANY UNIVERSES!!! <<less

I really enjoyed this one, it’s written (and also excellently translated) in a way that makes you want the keep reading the next chapter, you’ll keep telling yourself “just one more”.

The characters are well written and most of them have some depth to them. The plot makes sense and unfolds in a natural way.

This story is a 4.5 for me but I rounded it up.

So let's start with the story. Compared to Dear Mr Lu another beautiful revenge story that made my heart ache, this one is much more sweeter.

It is incomparable with the revenge of Dear Mr Lu (I mean the plot is different so), but the romance is amazing.

... more>> I don't know if I got it wrong but some people said that the romance was kind of bland. That's for others because to me the romance in this is healing.

To be honest, having someone be more patient with you even more than your own family is pretty hard to find.

The MC lost everything in his last life. He got a chance to start again with all the pain, trauma, depression and anxiety. He is trying his best.

He lies to the ML, yes, but that's because he doesn't know how to explain what happened, why it happened or how it happened. Even if the one you love has seen all your good and bad if it comes to starting again, would you be willing to show them your bad side?

The story is beautiful. Yes a bit draggy in some areas but otherwise beautiful.

For me having such an ML in any other story would have felt boring but not this one. The ML's calm personality was something our hotheaded MC needed. Not some enemy to romance thing or whatever but just a calm and safe haven.

I strongly recommend this. If it's not your jam though that's cool. Everyone has their vibe.

The translator did their best. There are some mistakes here and there with the names and pronouns but nothing a quick editing wouldn't fix. So a small star for that. <<less

First of all, awful translation; it's obvious it's machine translated without much editing afterwards. There are worse out there, but this one is pretty bad too. The wrong pronouns are used in the entire story: no, it wasn't only mistaking "he" with "she", there were instances of mistaking "he" with "you" and "you" with "I", so it changes the whole meaning of a dialogue. How do I know? Well, the dialogue wouldn't make sense with the pronouns used in the translation, so you gotta think and guess the real meaning.... more>> BTW, my rating has nothing to do with the translation, because to me a translation is completely separate from the content of the novel. I'm just giving a heads up here.

I read the entirety of the main story and one of the extras. I didn't read the other extras because I got bored.

This story has a very interesting revenge story and I really like that it shows that MC is actually still traumatized and his mental health has been affected, even when he's changing his family's and friend's destinies, he still suffers from anxiety, depression and hypervigilance. That said... I really don't like how he keeps lying to ML.

Spoiler

At first it was kinda cute and endearing how he would pretend to be well behaved with ML because he thought ML liked well behaved people and he had a crush on ML that even he wasn't aware of. That said, it gets old pretty soon, because in MC's past life, ML saw MC at his worst and ML was still MC's friend and would always accommodate MC, even when MC wasn't pretending at all. You could tell that in their past life, ML still liked MC even after seeing MC's darkest side and even died trying to help MC. But even after they get together and even after ML had caught him a few times doing things that "well behaved" people don't do, he's still pretending. And he keeps lying to ML and trying to make excuses about where he is and who he's with, even after he promised ML he wouldn't lie to ML anymore and even after ML told MC that MC didn't have to lie to him. It's all so annoying it made me roll my eyes so hard. MC wasn't being cute, he was being fake. I couldn't get over that, so I just got annoyed at the couple's interactions; but if it wasn't for that, they would've been such a great couple. That's why I didn't bother to read the extras, I didn't crave more of their interactions tbh.

[collapse]

Then, the ending was a bit boring.

Spoiler

It took too long to finally get rid of the final boss. Another reviewer said that there's a reason why the ending is a bit slow, because it was necessary to show how the MC healed, but I'm not talking about that. It's fine for the MC to heal slowly because yeah, you can't get rid of trauma overnight just because you got your revenge, but what actually made it boring for me is that it took them too long to get rid of the last boss. They had everything prepared to catch him and his last plan shouldn't have been able to be executed, but the author wanted more unnecessary suspense and made seem like the last boss almost succeeded. That last suspense was seriously not necessary. By that point, revenge was already taken and it was just fatigue inducing to add another episode of suspense when the dust should've settled already.

[collapse]

Anyway, decent revenge story with great family members and a pretty forward look on mental health for a Chinese novel. But... it's just that, so 3 stars. <<less

I really love this novel. Sigh..

I love how the MC has the golden finger of knowing what's gonna happen but at the same time not too OP and not too dependent on ML for solving his past/present. Unlike other novels where MC is feeling too superior but in fact just relies on ML. For MC in this novel, the struggle is real, the trauma and depression brought up from the previous life is real.

Its just a complete package. The love story side is slow burn and sweet without being too... more>> sappy. Its actually pretty much straight forward. 😊❤️❤️❤️ Im really glad that I had decided to read this novel, because I tend to skip on novels that have slow romance tags. Or based on the comments shows little amount/part for the love story. 😊😊❤️❤️❤️ <<less
