Lost You Forever

Life is a series of meetings and partings, of forgetting and starting anew. Yet, there are always moments that, once they occur, leave indelible marks; there are always people who, once they appear, become unforgettable.

The fated meeting at the town of Qing Shui has changed the destinies of everyone involved—perhaps even the fate of the entire Great Wilderness. All for the sake of a fleeting warmth, a touch of companionship, a devotion so deep it did not care when it might dissolve. Longing is like a poisoned goblet of fine wine—sweet as it slides down your throat, intoxicating and all-consuming. Once it reaches your heart and soul, there is no cure. When the poison strikes, it tears the heart apart; only the smile of the beloved can soothe it, only companionship can alleviate it. If that is unattainable, what remains is a deep, unending longing, enduring until death.

If everything is destined, then when Xiao Yao and Tu Shan Jing meet, their eventual parting is inevitable. They are fated to love, yet unable to embrace it fully—and equally unable to forget. Though they cannot hold on to one another, they can at least make themselves unforgettable, burying everything deep within their hearts. That gentle imprint will remain indelible, etched forever in their souls.

I have never read a Chinese novel before and only came to know of this novel after I started watching the drama of this novel that was released this year! I was so intrigued by the story that I wanted so bad to read the novel. This novel just takes you on a whole roller coaster ride that leaves you so conflicted by the end of it! I get why she ended up with the final man but the emotions that she has for the other man is so real!... more>> And my feelings towards the SML in this drama cannot be extinguished cause he’s such a complex character but I continued wanting the FL to select him! But if you are going to read this book, this is fair warning that you will be in for a very long ride with so many ups and downs. And also have to say, that the politics in this book was so beautifully portrayed cause I generally hate political parts of stories but this book kept me reigned in for all the politics as well. Idk how I’m going to recover after reading this book! I bawled my eyes out during the last few chapters and I’m sure to bawl my eyes out during the last few episodes of the drama too cause so far the drama has not been disappointing at all and I even feel that some emotions which are not portrayed in the book is being perfectly portrayed in the drama. Highly recommend that to any one who is a fan of this book! <<less

Another great novel. I can feel the pain and sympathize with all the ML.

ML black emperor: he loves her so much but he has a greater goal for the greater of the world he sacrificed his happiness the one thing he truly love for it. Though he regrets it from time to time he can’t turn back. I wouldn’t mind if she ended up with him bc they have this unshakable relationship from childhood to adulthood. She will always put him first before herself.

ML nine live demon: help/ love without... more>> any demand or expectation from her. It’s unclear of what kind of love he has for her but he does so much for her behind the scenes but never once expresses any affection towards her. So I can’t say I would choose him to be with her bc he’s there for her at critical moments but doesn’t pursue her.

ML Jing: so sweet and so kind. He’s definitely the right one for her. He gives her everything she wishes for a life long & loving partner who would choose to roam the world with her. He’s open minded, forgiving, and is not jealous over unnecessary things. I love him.

I just wish there was more sweet moments of them together. <<less

I just finished reading this and I still can't get over it. You know it's like a massive break up you keep crying and crying and the only thing that will heal your soul is a new love interest. That's what I've been trying to do these past few days is trying to find another story that can surpass this beautiful book. I truly hope they don't make it into a drama because the way the writer tells her story is so mesmerizing you want to keep it in your... more>> memory. You can picture the streets, the mountains. The emotions of each character is expressed just by the simple description used by our lovely author. I thank the translator for doing such a great job. That I am in awe of this story.

I was so in love and still in love with all the characters. There is not one that is pure evil or bad at all. Their actions are done because of their circumstances. You fall in love with each one and can't get over others. I am a sucker for love stories but a pure sucker for stories that can make you cry because of the love lost or the longing of it. I cried multiple times to point where I couldn't breath. The author did such a great job of describing the angst, the sadness, the heartache and the joy of loving someone. There were times my ship sailed and there were times my ship was slowing sinking to the bottom debts of despair.

no one will regret the 51 chapters and the epilogue to boot. Ooh just thinking about it makes my heart churn. <<less

A riveting, imaginative and epic story about humans, gods and demons, and the arduous path towards happiness and self-fulfillment.

It's poignant, tragic and bittersweet with an eccentric heroine whose fate is intricately tied to three multifaceted MLs: the protective, beloved childhood best friend and soulmate; the enigmatic, unruly, and hard to resist bad boy daredevil; and the refined, quietly strong, unassuming, steadfast and devoted gentleman – sometimes unpredictable, sometimes surprising but always like a warm and tender, slow burning embrace.

This is a masterpiece. I cried so many times. It has love, hate, angst, loss, friendship, everything that's needed. You will ship MC with 3 ML at one point or the other. They love her but have their own fate......

Don't be fooled, this novel has been completely translated, with the last chapter in one of the comment here.

I didn't ready Once Promised, but I didn't get lost reading this novel.

It was honestly so good, that you will cry reading it. The MC isn't that dense there will be plenty of ups a downs. I kinda wish there's a drama based on this novel but I also don't want it to exist just in case they screw it up. Cause honestly it will be hard for a character to portray... more>> the complexity of XL, Jing and ZH. <<less

This is the first Chinese novel I've read and I'm grateful for that. The author is so good in terms of playing on my emotions. Suddenly, I'm crying and laughing again. I had savored this novel word by word. Tong Hua knows how to keeps the story rolling. Really. This is an example of a carefully crafted book. You'll think that some of the events were unrelated but you'll understand later on that it happens for a reason. Lol. Most of her books starts slow. It's kinda boring, yeah. But... more>> you'll realize later when the story is building up that you should have read it throughly lol coz it's the foundation of the story. I still read some of her books even if I know almost all of her books makes me depressed after reading it.

You'll also realize that the title, "Lost You Forever" is indeed perfect for this one. Ahhh T.T I'm crying. I shipped the wrong team. X.X

Thank you for Tong Hua for the awesome novel and to translator - for the awesome translation you've made. <<less

Probably one of the most heartbreaking and bittersweet stories I've ever read. The kind that just lingers with you, haunting you with if-only and what-could've-been and brings you to tears in the oddest of times whenever you recall it. Lost You Forever is an epic fantasy story based on the origin myths of China and the first Chinese Emperor, and Tong Hua weaves a deeply moving tale of love, loss, and tragedy.

The characters are incredibly compelling and each have so much depth to them. But I swear, Tong Hua has... more>> never written a story with a properly happy ending. Even though Xiao Yao ended up with the man she wanted in the end, she'll never know the depth of the love Xiang Liu held for her, and she'll never get the chance to realize her own love for him. Despite everything, Xiang Liu and Xiao Yao were the star-crossed soulmates, the ones I rooted for even though I knew from the start how it would end.

To summarize my feelings about this book - some things are worth it. It'll be short, and sad. And in the end, it will slip away from you and break your heart. But that brief moment in time where it seems like the characters almost had it, the chance to be together and to be happy - is worth it. Some sorrows are worth suffering for having known the beauty of what was while it lasted, however briefly. That is how I viewed Xiao Yao's relationship with Xiang Liu, and to a lesser extent, Zhuang Xu. <<less

1. Beautiful writing. I firmly believe some authors have the gift of writing. And this author has that gift.

2. Gets you immersed in the story! Love the story weaving, characters, settings and the pace of progress

Heavy, complex, emotional novel involving noble or royal clans of deities, a few demons, and a few mortals, in a fantasy ancient chinese world.

The story is beautiful but painful to read. The main leads are all traumatized in their own way, and most of the tragedy stems from the events of the prequel Once Promised.

Similar to the tv drama, I liked how the FL was actually a grouchy but kind man in a small rural town for the beginning of the novel. The story later moves to the glittering aristocratic... more>> deity clans and royal wars for territory. The latter part of the novel has a very weepy depressed FL, several love interests, and a lot of pain. I've lost track of the number of times main characters almost died.

So, if you like emotional roller coasters, tearjerkers, and multiple flawed MLs, I'd recommend this. If you're looking for a light fluffy 1v1 romance, you should look elsewhere.

Also, the 51 chapters are very long, they feel more like 200 chapters. <<less

I read the novel after watching this on netflix. It was a good read and the ending was ok but the epilogue really got me like an arrow to the heart.

Well written and you won't know who she will finally end up with until the last chapters which makes it a novel hard to put down.

I really liked XY and TSJ pair, they both know they were each other's true love, they really had so many moments where it felt like the world was conspiring so that they break up or can't be together and it felt like XL carried their ship silently on his back until the end (he did everything in his power to make her happy from the sidelines including keeping TSJ alive)

Honestly I hated ZX/Cang Xuan the whole time, I felt disgusted reading his thoughts and obsession about XY and thank god TSJ was still alive.

I hoped there was a happier ending for XL I still can't with his ending and that gut wrenching epilogue

My all time favourite Chinese novel both in 2014 and now, upon a second reading (listening to the Chinese audiobook). It’s an exquisite, well plotted story with many intricacies and nuanced, complex characters. It has the most amazing male lead, most amazing love stories, some well done politics and empire building, beautiful adventure... It’s a great emotional ride that leaves a strong aftertaste. Koala’s translation is also excellent.

This novel has been in my need to read list for the longest time but I somehow never found the time to read it. Now that I finally have the time, I read the whole novel in 2 days and I don't regret it one bit. Tonghua always does an amazing job of creating such beautiful characters. In particular, Xiang Liu who is my fave out of the 3 leading men. This novel is incredibly boring and drags on sluggishly. While Ciao Yao was at least interesting as a man, she becomes whiny and annoying as a woman. The only interesting character is Xiang Liu and he has the most heartbreaking story and the most tragic ending of all.

I love Tong Hua's novels, and this one was no exception. I was so torn over the two MLs, all the way to the end of the novel. She shares a bittersweet love with one ML, and a devoted one wrought with countless misunderstandings with the other one. Tong Hua admitted that this was one of her better novels herself, so it's worth the read!

But thx god the two lover Finaly got married and are together without any up and down!... more>> Really if one wants a happy ending you can read just up to volume 2 and that's it! But I'd you continue with volume 3 then you will feel like shut! At the end I somehow skim reading some chaps at the end cause I was frustrated! Anyways I read it and finish it bit not happy at all with this ending! Having a selfish brother who loves you like this o don't want!

In my opinion he was the first one who was close to her and could have make her fall in love with him but he push her to another one AND NOW THAT SHE LOVES HIM HE COME AND DESTROY IT THINKING SHE WILL FORRGET AND WILL START LOVING HIM FUXK HIM!

and about the lover boy JING I don't say it's bad to be kind and forgiving and everything but hello simetime that those not hell I can say it was his fault time and time they had to separate beside the first one it was their fault together and all! <<less

*Screams* I absolutely LOVED this novel. It is amazingly well written, the characters are just so... You can FEEL them, I mean, no, THEY can feel. I loved it, the protagonist is awesome, the kind that has no strong powers and is physically weak, but still meets dangerous situations with courage. The male leads... My personal favorite Xiang Liu is simply so so so devastating, and my second favorite Jing (of COURSE) is so so so sweet, just a little bit more of attitude and maybe he would be the... more>> first favorite. Love it. Zhuan Xu is some kind crazy if I would say... But, well, he has reasons, maybe, idk.

Long time lurker first time reviewer. This novel captured my heart fully that I felt the need to leave a review.

I’ve read more than 50 c novels at this point and this one really struck a chord. The FL is not a helpless nor brainless, she is so strong. So many beautiful lines stuck with me (thank you author and translator).

XL- the most poignant character. I love him but also hate him. Even at the epilogue I still do not understand his character or his strong motivations. Is it because he loved her but didn’t want her? I’m confused. Someone explain it to me please.

J- all girls love a bad boy but will marry the good one. That’s what J feels like.

ZX- wow at first I pitied him at first. But when he tried to kill J, he was dead to me. Why XY forgived him is a mystery to me.
