Xia Ran is severely socially anxious.

One day, he played a wildly popular holographic game. In it, as a player, he was tasked with managing a luxurious old mansion.

The mansion’s owner—seated in a wheelchair—was frail, beautiful, and aloof.

A longtime beauty fanatic, Xia Ran fell in love at first sight.

—Hello, I’m your biggest fan!

However, even in the game, Xia Ran’s social anxiety held him back; he could only silently express his affection for his ultimate crush.

The mansion owner was always gazing out at the garden as if he were madly in love with the roses.

That very night, Xia Ran placed a single rose by his bedside.

The next day, the mansion owner glared at Xia Ran with a ghostly pallor. Noticing a slight tremor in him, Xia Ran slipped a pair of red “autumn pants” onto him.

His face darkened even further.

Too timid to speak, Xia Ran simply took his fingertips in his and warmed his hands.

For a socially anxious soul, just being able to look at the one he adores is happiness enough.

That’s what Xia Ran believed.

In the endless dungeon run, the mansion owner—a brooding, formidable presence suspected to be the boss—was someone none of the players dared to approach. After all, the last player who tried to take him down had already been taken out.

Then came a substitute player—beautiful and aloof, exuding the aura of a top dog.

On the first night, she secretly slipped into the boss’s room and placed a poisonous rose (the key to countering him) on his bedside.

Players: “Holy shit!

Right out of the gate, a provocation?”

The next day, the players discovered that Xia Ran was fitting the disheartened boss with red autumn pants.

Players: “Huh?!”

Soon after, they witnessed Xia Ran furtively holding the boss’s hand.

Players: …

It was as if a human had tamed the wild dungeon boss.

After clearing the game, Xia Ran never played again.

Two months later, as he pushed open his door, he found his long-missed beloved from the game sitting at the head of the bed—with a pale face seething with anger.

Xia Ran: …

It must be that he opened the door all wrong.

Then the mansion owner smiled darkly and said,

“Love me, care for me, then abandon me.”

“Xia Ran, you don’t really think this is just a game, do you?”

Xia Ran’s eyes trembled.

Isn’t it?

My real rating is 4.5 but we don't have a.5 option so here.

The story starts in an engaging way, I didn't have to keep reading a few chapters while hoping it will eventually get interesting which is always great. A quick little spoiler about chapter 1 incase anyone misunderstands and is put off by it.

The MC hits a child at the begining (a ghost monster child). It seems he thought it was a low budget game NPC and not an actual monster child so that's why he did that.

I love the couple, they're compatible and sweet. They bring the best out of eachother and they're just the perfect couple. They both grow a bit as people through their shared experience. It's also nice to see them develop relationships with the people around them. I do feel like the MC was cooler at the begining and becomes a bit more lame by the end but he was generally not a cunning schemer type or anything like that, he was always kind of confused, gullible and easily embarrassed, but he starts to show that more outwardly as the atory progresses. At first people think he's this cold and mysterious powerful figure, but he's really just socially anxious. The ML is also a hurt, fake gentle, teasing sweetie, who fears exposing his more bold and flawed self at first but then slowly becomes more comfortable and more expressive.

There are some plot holes and unexplained stuff about the ML that just get left there. And lets not even mention the side characters, none of them have a proper resolution to their story. I hope we get some more extras to clear those up. The pacing at the end was rushed and the ending wasn't very clear through the mtl, there were also questions left unanswered about the friend the MC made there. The ending was very abrupt and I think they should have kept the pacing more steady but the last few chapters were all over the place and left plot holes and more questions than answers. At least it's a HE though.

overall it was a good read, just be aware that you might not be completely content by the end. <<less

Main couple is very cute and sweet. ML takes some time realizing that MC really is unintentionally “harming” him (which in the end doesn’t actually harm him at all lol). As mentioned by another, it’s true that there’s many loose ends to the side characters.

I would’ve loved follow-up on Fu Qu staying back to revive Shen Hua. Or at least if he ended up taking over the game authority and doing something else. By the end I also wondered what happened to Xie Qiao and whether she was able to escape with her brother. Even more details on Gu Quifeng’s identity would’ve been nice... I think a fun chapter on his company/business full of dungeon bosses could’ve been really entertaining.

Overall great book with a wonderful dynamic couple. It’s just that much was left to be desired. <<less
