This novel really captured me after a few chapters when we learn what happened from the POV of one of the heroines.

the way the descriptions visualize the story for us is superb and the way the author immerses you in his world is unlike many other novels out there.

the protagonist is special as he is basically split personality where his normal personality is determined to live up to his future personality that appears once every so often and leaves him a letter.

he's a very determined person who wants to improve... more>> and is overall a decent guy trying to do the right thing.

Waifus are top tier.

Pros:

Harem.

Chad Protagonist.

MC has a super cool side to him when his other self takes over.

Worldbuilding is top tier.

Cons:

the first few chaps are ok but after its a rollercoaster. <<less

I really enjoy the premise and action sequences of this novel. One critique often mentioned in the reviews is how the MC initially doubts the letters from the future, which is understandable given the circumstances. Who would believe some random letter that appeared in some cabinet?

For me though, what I find disappointing about this novel is its treatment of characters. Every month, a new heroine is introduced through a love letter from the future, leading to a new story arc. Once these arcs are resolved, the heroines tend to fade... more>> into the background. For example, after resolving Sepia's situation as the first heroine, she rarely appears except when the MC needs her combat abilities or for scenes involving jealousy.

This approach diminishes the opportunity for characters I've grown attached to to shine as heroines. Instead, they become NPCs who merely follow the MC, which I find frustrating. If you're gonna write a harem story, do it properly. It's as if the heroines are merely pieces to keep for a better chance at saving the world, not characters with human emotions and thoughts.

So I really like this novel but before I go into what I really like let me go into the reason why I gave this 4 stars.

The MC is unbearably dense I can handle the MC being really dense but Ian is by far the densest MC I have ever read, girls confess to him multiple times and he's like "Oh It MuSt Be A mEtApHoR" And I'm like bro she's literally talking about her crush on you in front of you. He does slightly make up for this by... more>> being a bad*ss but the whiplash I get from seeing him calmly battle with his life on the line to the denseness of a black hole is astounding. Another thing that frustrated me is the situation with Emma. Like come on man you had a weird dream, you can't recall anything you did for the past week, and woke up with a strange letter but you're not even going to be a little skeptical of it? That just makes the MC look like an idiot since he should of at least followed her. But that's enough of a rant about the MC so I shall now transition into the stuff I like.

I'm sure we're all suckers for second chances and will eat up anything half-decent as if it was the last food on earth. So this novel takes the second chance element and adds a mystery aspect to it. Unlike other MCs who get visions or their memories about the future Ian only has a Love Letter to go off of which can only have a limited amount of information. I'm assuming it was future Ian who possessed his body for over a week and heightened his sense and proficiency with a hatchet which is a nice touch since the future aspect actually aided him in a less direct way than SCOG did which I can admit felt very plot armory. This event is the catalyst for MC and Seria to meet and later come, friends, which is a good thing. Seria and MC's relationship is nice it honestly feels like a little brother and sister more than Ian's and Celine's since Seria ends up relying on MC more than Celine is ever shown to. There's not much to say it's an interesting concept that is executed excellently and I looked forward to the direction the author takes the world into.

Now WAIFU TIME, so we got 4 so far 5 if you consider Elsie but she is too bratty for me she needs more development rn. First, we got Celine who basically fills the Childhood friend/Little sister role. I don't have too much to say since her character is fairly common, especially with her being jealous of Seria's increased time with MC. Kinda one dimensional right now since her character is solely around knowing the MC since childhood. Now Seria is by far the most focused girl so far in the story. She is lovely I like the contrast between how she appears and how she actually is which is a common trope but one I personally adore. Her social anxiety is cute but she is still strong well physically at least. She is starting to learn more about her emotions as she spends time with Ian since her family kind of made her repress those emotions and it's pretty obvious she is

Head over heels for the MC but she just doesn't know it yet

I'm rating this 5 because, despite its weaknesses and tropes and everything, I still really enjoy reading it to find out what his crazy don't-give-a-sh*t future self did this time and how it chains into events that would have lead to the apocalypse.

There's attraction, action, obsessive love, his hatchet, power struggles, drama, nobility, regret, angst, demons, explosions, MC actually has a male friend, near death experiences, catfights, a plot twist or two; it has a lot of different things going on. At its core, the plot is an action +... more>> character interactions story about a man being strung along by a trail of breadcrumbs left by a future him.

See, MC periodically wakes up to a love letter reminiscing about things that haven't happened yet, each time from a different woman, with a vague clue scribbled on it and several days worth of memories unaccounted for. He invariably finds out that in that blank time his burned-out future self has done something to someone, so MC has to follow the trail of ominous stares, rumors and tears to figure out what was done this time. That in turn leads him on the path to finding another chess piece that cults or demons or whatnot had been preparing that would have snowballed into something worse later.

It has its weaknesses. The women all love him despite his kinda flat personality and lack of functional social interaction. There's pretty much a checklist of female body types and personalities. MC behaves in a fairly traumatic and abusive way towards most characters (his hatchet causes immediate fear reflexes on sight). Things always go just how they need to so he comes out on top and can continue without crippling injuries or actually dying. Etc. Still a fun ride, imo. The fact it could refer to something as "The Rinella Barking Incident" made me laugh more than it should.

TL quality is great, very few errors I noticed. <<less

I agree with the other low star reviews. I think it'll probably come down to preferences over how you prefer your MC's character to be written. I can take a 'dumb' MC if it's comedic, or if he lived isolated all his life and is learning to interact for the first time (I like those).

However this MC, who has a normal (even privileged) upbringing, is dumb as a brick, in regards to IQ & EQ. And like someone else said, it has a serious tone, not comedic. So it's quite... more>> grating and angsty to read... every single move he makes in the first 15 chapters, and everything that comes out of his mouth has me scratching my head... Granted, I've only read 15 chapters, but I don't wanna dedicate to read 50-100 more chapters to see if he develops common sense. He also does feel bland af, maybe a personality comes out later.

Some spoilers on why I can't follow this MC's line of thoughts

Spoiler

The biggest thing for me is the letter from the future. I get it, if you got a letter from the future, you wouldn't believe it either, you'd think someone snuck it into your room as a prank. But to have all those 'spectacular' events at the same time... you would probably test out the part about your best friend dying in a few days right?

He can't remember the last week of school, where apparently from other's descriptions, he is convinced someone else had control over his body. Someone who seemed comfortable in his body/knew people, and had much more fighting experience. At same time, he was also having an apocalyptic like dream about the future. His strength and mana are considerably improved, and when he woke up, he found a weird letter from a future lover. In that letter, talks about how one of his best friends is going to be attacked by a beast on a specific day. He goes to the girl on the day she's going to be attacked, thinks about telling her about it, says nah, 'have a good day!' instead, and she dies... This part already has you pretty angsty, then the next chapter....

He still think's 'maybe this letter is some prank', the next day, but decides that he's going to trust it regardless... ok? and so what is he gonna do to prevent the apocalypse? Is he gonna start training, getting stronger and informing people, building up his 'team'? Start researching this mentioned 'traitor god' that has something to do with the end? Nope, he's gonna start trying to seduce the women around him because one of them must be his lover from the future... and he should find her because.... they should reconnect.. why? I don't even know.... I DON"T EVEN KNOW!!!!

And other small stuff that grates me like MC will speak rudely to someone who's not being rude to him, and when people point it out he goes 'oh well I already said the rude thing, so what's left to think about?'... Like idk maybe change that shitty personality so it doesn't happen next time? They're not asking you to go back in time dips***....

[collapse]

At that point I was like 'oh so maybe this is a comedy, that I just don't find funny'. But then I went to this page, and saw there's no comedy tag. So I don't think they were aiming for comedy... <<less

It could have been placed as one of the top tier series if only the execution of some of the plot development is perfect. I'm reading the reviews and it seems that there's a lot of harem fanatics who's talking about another user's review who I would assume made a subpar rating. I can't see the lower rating review which makes me think these people or the translator purposely hide it to put the favorable reviews into the pedestal.

Spoiler

I find it ridiculous and funny with how the harem fanatics of this series really did try to justify how the MC is not a simp. There is no doubt the series for the most part is okay, except for the inconsistencies and bad development. I can definitely understand if some people gets annoyed by the hypocrisy of the MC. Added to the fact that author is continuously using a repetitive development which makes it boring in the 2nd half; sure you will get a lot of annoyed readers about this.

This is the perfect example of a simp MC being disguised as a pure "alpha". MC's blatant hypocrisy and certain bias towards female characters is really disturbing. If he's not a simp, why would he try to find reasons just to justify the s*upid actions of the people he simps. That's the irony and hypocrisy of the series, if MC is a true alpha like what some of the reviews claimed then why would he easily gets influenced by some of the characters just because he likes them. If they're doing something s*upid then why justify their action? Most of the reviewers claimed MC doesn't hesitate to correct certain actions of some characters/girls yet he himself is hypocrite by justifying some of the people he has certain bias. If that is not a plot hole, bad development, inconsistent as opposed to what is being portrayed; then I don't know what do these harem fanatics think of it. MC is a simp for his harem, that's the truth. MC's action in regards to not bowing to nobles is good, we can say he's alpha in that area, but a true alpha will always be in control of their emotions and decision making. They will not justify s*upid actions of someone just because of their certain bias towards a person they like. I will stand by my opinion here, the story is fantastic however came crashing and became just the typical harem novel with a lot of typical cliche and annoying females. Goodness I can't even stand some of the childishness and st**id actions and personality of some of the heroines. I've also read the series in hangul so I can definitely attest that the series has a good writing style with a unique use of hanja. I don't care if the novel has a fantastic writing style and beautiful use of poetic hanja. A novel is all about plot and development, if a novel shows st**id development, shows hypocrisy and questionable action and development contrary to what the character is being portrayed, even if the writing style is good with poetics, it's still a tr*sh development. It's easy to claim the series is perfect, won awards and loved by many Korean fans, however to debunk these argument, those Korean people who supports the series is a same bunch of harem fanatics like these people. It's so easy to defend and to ignore the s*upid development and hypocrisy if you like the series.

Aside from these cons, I do admit the actions and fighting scenes were good. I'm not an entirely hater of harem. If a harem was done in a fantastic way with good development then it's fine. But if you will add harem just to confuse the MC and make him dumb and hypocrite then it's a tr*sh development. Overall, the series is just normal, not great and not perfect, except for harem fanatics of course.

[collapse]

Aside from what I mentioned here about the harem/heroine issue, there's also a lot of problems and inconsistencies in the story that needs to be addressed. Ranging from the worldview, plot development, MC's portrayal and etc. If anyone of you wants to know more about it, you can dm me or I can start a thread on forums and discuss the plot holes of the story. <<less

I love this novels premise and actions scenes. The author is really good at showing the struggles of the MC. One of the complaints of this novel is how the MC didn't believe the letter, but it makes sense since who would actually believe it's a letter from the future?

What I really hate about this novel tho is its characters. Every month, the MC receives a love letter from the future. So it brings forth a new arc with a different heroine each time. Because of this, once the arc... more>> is resolved, the heroine kinda goes to the sidelines for the rest of the novel? Let's take Sepia (our first heroine), after our MC solved her situation, we never see her unless the MC needs her combat power or if we want to make a jealous girl scenes. This is what I don't like, it's that the characters I get attached to lose the chance to shine and be the heroine. They just become NPC's who follow the MC.

WHAT I HATE THE MOST THO IS HOW THE AUTHOR INCORPORATED HIS FETISHES TO THE NOVEL. I MAY BE ACTING EXTREME, BUT THE PLOT DEVELOPMENT IS TOO WEIRD. THE AUTHOR MAKES THE MC SO FEARFUL THAT HE GAINS s*aveS 😭

I'll focus on two main characters for this complaint (Senior Elsie and Senior Delphine). Let's start witb Senior Delphine,

Spoiler

she's a proud noble woman who's the heir to one of the five strongest families in the world. But she lost to Ian, was brutally beaten to the point of death, abd was scared of him so much that she's willing to do anything. After some plot happened, she finally accepted Ian as her true master due to "backstory", him promising her to win, and hik shattering her pride.

[collapse]

This plot development is just something I don't like, and I'll quote a line from the novel that made me uncomfortable (not word for word). "If you tell me to lick your shoes, I'll do so. If you tell me to bark, I'll bark. I'll even strip if you order me too."

Girl, aren't you a proud noble 🤦‍♂️It seems like the author tries to justify it well but it always falls short as the development seems unnatural. Oh yeah, did I mention she's a masochist due to "backstory" 😁

And my next example, Senior Elsie. She also is from a prestigious family and got brutally beaten by MC. Then plot happened, she became his s*ave (you know the rest)

Here's her quote "Please don't leave me master. Do you want me to bark. Woof woof".

Tbh, I think the author has a dog fetish. Theres too much barking. It just makes me sad to see such unique and strong characters be reduced to such a state.

Still, the plot is uniue, and I love the action scenes. So three stars. <<less

The story is set in a magic academy in a world where monsters and demons exist. The twist here is that the protagonist received letters from the future that force him to contemplate on its significance, act on it, and destroy elements early on that could lead to the destruction of the world. This story is very similar to Golden Light Gratia The Child Loved By God, where the..

[collapse]

The story focus a lot on its dynamic harem romance, so fans of romance that also don't mind (or enjoy reading) harems will definitely like this, especially being tagged under polygamy. The story has a very strong depiction of character development that are built by romantic interactions, which I perceive to be the web novel's biggest strength. The story also has a good depiction of its action scenes in text. It is quite easy to imagine what the hell is going on during the action scenes.

A weak point of the web novel? I guess I'd say the violent tendencies of the protagonist, although it is still within the realm of reason. It doesn't help that most of the heroines that the protagonist interact with are assertive, prideful bullies. Emma and the Saint are the only sane heroines where the protagonist doesn't have to act on his violent tendencies. You could say that the protagonist is not arrogant but he is also not a pushover. He is the embodiment of "an eye for an eye" but returning it ten-fold.

The actions of the future protagonist, however, are...

Spoiler

... wildly violent. He tortured some of the heroines in the present time to the point it traumatizes them. It makes me wonder that the hell these heroines did in the future for the future protagonist to go so far.

[collapse]

So considering whatever the hell happened in the future, it pushes me to reflect and imagine the potential of these heroines turning to villains themselves because of their prideful nature that look down on others when they were still young students, and I am looking forward to how it is revealed in text as the story continues.

I highly recommend! <<less

I really didn't care much for the story or the characters. This novel not having any weird age gap issues typically found in regression stories still squanders the romance potential by having an incredibly dense MC.

The overarching plot and mystery has interesting components, but its mainly overshadowed by the romance.

The fights are genuinely amazing though and carried the whole thing for me. So well choreographed and adrenaline pumping. There's a lot of human vs human combat here and its not mainly human vs monster.

Even characters I usually wouldn't care for... more>> become cool once they show competent fighting skills. Really, I wish the novel focused more on the fights and had more proactive antagonists, than focusing on the lackluster romance and SOL. I dropped the novel, cause we were at an arc that was mainly interactions and human vs monster which is not my cup of tea, but if this author makes another work more suited to my tastes, I'll definitely try it. <<less

I am officially here, make way for me peasants. I am here to PREACH. Father sorrow will show you lost lambs the way. First of all, this novel is unhinged. Our MC is totally mentally incapable of compassion for the first hundreds of chapters. My man sees a problem, thinks of solution, solution. exe has crashed, so instead of restarting windows, he starts beating the computer. Literally, the first problems introduced here are solved by the MC using brawn and not brain.

I really enjoy his struggles though. Our MCs special... more>> power is something most of us lazy sloths are unfamiliar with, it's called willpower. His will is rock solid (insert malphite_rocksolid. mp3). Moving on from our lovely lunatic, to the rest of the cast, concisting of females, because it is a harem, you dum-dums, they are interesting (???). Oh, I forgot my bro Leto, and the holy knight, so we actually have 2 bros in the cast as well. Where was I? Ah, yes, the female cast... is as insane as the MC. Peas in a pond, or whatever that saying was. This somehow makes the story even better, like it IS a very unique concept. A mentally deranged hero who gaslight- I mean charms similarly mentally unstable women left and right while protecting the world.

Moving to the story, I won't write a lot about it, I do not want to spoil it to you. Basically, the MC gets love letters from the future (wow who could have thought) and uses the information from these to prevent disasters. Events unfold slowly, as well as parallel timelines which the MC gets glimpses on.

The last aspect I will talk about is the Harem. I will defend this to my last breath, cause I an avid harem-lover, but that is not important here. There ARE plenty of females after my boy, but he is clueless, which unfortunately takes away some rank points. The thirsty creatures trying to find their way to the Ian oasis is certainly amusing to read. I strongly believe the appeal of this series to be the rather unorthodox approach to the characters. They all are somewhat 'broken' due to past events or circumstances, with the exception of our main character who had the most normal childhood (or does he?) but turns out to be more insane than all of the cast combines. Now, my thought process has been all around in this review, and I am not proud of that. My parting words to ye who see the light, is to give this show a try. While some might not consider it a masterpiece, I strongly believe that anyone can enjoy this work. <<less

Okay, right off the bat one of the hardest things to withstand in this novel is the action scenes. If you don't know a single thing about martial arts or swordplay, please don't write excruciatingly long flight scenes. Even if the author took a couple of boxing classes it would reduce how utterly senseless the fights are.

The main character isn't particularly likable. He is too s*upid and too prone to violence.

I managed to gloss over that because the premise of the story and the world seemed promising. The thing that... more>> broke me is women being written by a man *badly*. The depictions of women are deeply sexist.

Our story follows the son of a countryside viscount, Ian percus, who is fresh out of f*cks to give and the arrogant nobles have to pay for it. He's got good footwork, a trusty hatchet and a mastery in beating women. I reckon that countryside viscounty is Scotland.

I'll stop with the jokes and start with the actual review now.

The MC is without a doubt one of the most unhinged characters I have seen since Isaac from the novel 'Isaac'. It isn't just being unhinged for the sake of being unhinged.... more>> There are things that piss him off and he absolutely won't tolerate, what does he do when those things eventually happen? He takes action. He puts on the fighting gloves. Of course its not all mindless violence as the situations that can be resolved without violence are usually peaceful. Usually. The MC is very dense (harem tag) and will absolutely refuse to use his brain when it comes to normal human relationships which a stark contrast to him when he's fighting.

It does have the usual shenanigans that occur in any generic harem novel with a neutron star as the protagonist. Its not like its all bad. The main cast is more than one dimensional. They've got goals motivating them. Things they wanna achieve. People they want to become. People they don't want to become. And plenty more.

Well now, I can't really say much about the plot without spoiling it but its got little bit of mystery. The letter is the key. We have to piece together the puzzle with the protagonist as we go along but that is usually on the back burner and the start of the novel is more about the situations the MC gets in as a result of trying to complete this puzzle more than anything. <<less

Love Letters From the Future centers around Ian Percus, a viscount's son who one day mysteriously receives a letter from his own future self warning of impending disaster. This catalyst pulls him into a thrilling adventure full of political intrigue, demons, and romance.

The time travel premise via letters allows for an unpredictable, fast-paced plot as Ian works to unravel the mysteries and avert catastrophes detailed in each new letter. He's an endearingly stubborn protagonist who charges headfirst into conflict, witty but decisive. Supporting characters feel realistically complex, with engaging dynamics.

Action... more>> scenes are a highlight, vividly described blow-by-blows as Ian punches above his weight class against incredible odds through sheer grit. He’s an underdog who never gives up. The magic academy setting also shines with a fully built world and hierarchy. Hints are dropped about a much broader scope beyond the school.

Romance plays a substantial role, centered around a harem structure. Some may be turned off, but relationships develop organically from friendship and trauma bonding. Ian maintains his convictions when facing feminine influences. The diverse heroines have agency and their own growth arcs.

In summary, Love Letters From the Future succeeds on multiple fronts - thrilling action, high stakes plot, lovable protagonist, and well-written heroines. It deserves more attention, especially for action fantasy fans who don't mind romance elements. With a novel premise and stellar execution, this is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. <<less

Alright. I'll be honest, this novel caught me off guard. I expected it to be the usual regressor power fantasy where he just smacks his schmuck around to to victory.

Although it still has similar tropes to it the way the story so far has been refreshingly different. I greatly like the fact that he doesn't get randomly overpowered out of nowhere but on life and death situations, it gives you a sense of growth and 'struggle' that we don't see very often these days.

The actions scenes are very fleshed out... more>> and greatly explained that I could basically imagine the whole fight in my head.

Some users complained about the sudden POV changes that are affecting their 'immersion' but I honestly haven't noticed it at all until I specifically saw it mentioned for the first time so it doesn't affect me.

As for the characters I got a few words.

Okay, first of all personality of the MC is typical of most novels. The dense but honest kind guy. Though he truly shines during some of the key moments that I won't spoil in this review. I'll just say that when the hatchet is out you know they're about to find out.

Heroines, I'll focus on only the first two (Seria, Celine) Seria is your 'Cold but secretly just socially awkward' type, but given her backstory and the way she was treated by other students it made sense, unlike other stories where it's just inserted without cause or reason. also some yandere vibes

Finally, Celine.

Okay hear me out but I can't stand this woman for the life of me. She's contradictory and downright awful. It's as if she was just inserted as a childhood friend for the sake of it. She wanted to revive her fallen noble house but focuses on mundane and ridiculous things. Especially during her

Haven't made it too far (novel has 600+ chapters as of when I'm writing this) so I can only make a review on the early-mid academy arc. It's a solid novel, but you really fail to find much 'plot'. You're mostly greeted with love troubles/harem drama at the start. Though, I personally enjoy the novel and look forward to reading more when I get around to it.

Even though the description might describe how 'the world will perish' you aren't really presented with much stakes for the MC, in the actual... more>> novel, and I feel like he'll just pull out the knowledge of the love letter whenever he has a slight trouble. <<less

Honestly its pretty interesting, the love letters serve as preludes as to whats to come, the actions are also very good, I think the best aspect is how much of a lunatic the MC is, the excuse being his future self is melding with his current self, every time he drives a hatchet into someone I always thought this mother f*cker is insane and I love it.

the worst part of the this novel is definitely the harem and female leads, I dont really mind harems but the man theyre so... more>> one dimensional one that I hate them, two of them have stockholm syndromes and one he sexually harasses which is not funny or entertaining the third time around.i held out hope on the eldest sister of seria but she turned out the worst out of all of them and just becomes a masochist, which is now her only personality trait.

All in all great novel if you can disregard the harem and aspect. Also how is this a romance, <<less

So many moments that make you cheer out loud in this one and nearly every character is fantastic. The heroines unfortunately go through some pretty drastic taming incidents that are rather violent (though usually they're violent first so it's not out of nowhere, just their reactions are very "mind break"y and the author describes them sometimes as having gone mad so I think that's kinda accurate).

Other than the severe violence (usually towards and from bad guys) and power creep of healing magic after trying to put limits on it early,... more>> the only other thing to beware of is the reoccurring plot contrivance that starts every arc where Ian is possessed by his future self for a week and then wakes up to find a letter from a lover from the future. Future-Ian is quite broken himself and handles things more roughly than necessary for sure. It's almost comedic after the first arc to see the absurdity repeat. Oh, it's also a harem, but it's one of the most justified harems I've ever seen.

Writing-wise it is very well written with my only complaint being that the author likes to repeat backstory. Though I did binge the first 202 chapters over the course of a day or two, the author still likes to shift perspectives and repeat that character's backstory even if it has only been a few chapters since the last time. I started skimming these because they go on for a while but then they'll offer one or two new things sometimes buried in them.

Other complaints are just that I desperately want more. The first three arcs take about 210 chapters and while a lot has happened I can't imagine being satisfied for another 300 chapters at this pace. It's so good and just want more.

Lastly, although it heavily features romantic relationships as the plot device, it is much more an action story. <<less
