- LV is extremely fast paced and goes through all the typical xianxia cultivation conflicts and fights. However no battle or conflict lasts more than one chapter (two max) and the fight scenes are seriously underwhelming.
- The ML, Jiang Xu, is a 'dual' or this translator's term for a moye or ger. While on it's own that's just fine, the concept of duals is never explored in the novel. They are mentioned when JX is first introduced but then pretty much never mentioned again. Through where I'm writing this review, neither the MC or ML has met another dual. Every time new characters see them together, they always think of them as friends not dao companions even though JX supposedly has a bright cinnabar mole between his brows identifying him as a dual. It's as if the author wrote in just one dual to make the MC not be a weird gay man in a transmigrated world and then completely dropped the concept entirely.
- All the women are irrational, greedy b*tches. While this is pretty common in both danmei and long xianxias, what is abnormal is that there is literally not a single sane woman who isn't written as someone who is two-faced and just after the guy's wealth. All villains are women and all villainous men are villainous because they are simping hard for her. Like, author, who hurt you?
- Apparently absolutely everything in the world can already be found in books. The MC spends three months reading books in a hicktown bookstore (aka lower continent, not near a T-1 city, not near a city at all, just a regular tiny town that's half a day away by ox cart) and suddenly can identify every single plant in existence AND

I'm all for books tell you the secrets of the universe but this is literally over the top excessive.
Pros:create a foolproof method to cleanse his spirit roots to make himself a single spirit root cultivator.
- Not many long, xianxia stories that model the traditional Long Aotian stereotype do justice to having an equal partner who plays an active role in the MC's life but LV manages to accomplish this very well!
- As stated above, LV does manage to hit all of the pleasure points that traditional xianxia readers look for in a plot while keeping it danmei.
- The translation of this novel is decent and lets you fully enjoy the LV world.
- This novel is not afraid to have a gong who actively showers his shou with affection and (literally) protects him with his life WHILE STILL HAVING OUR ML BEING STRONGER THAN OUR MC because, yes, the ML is a bonafide sword genius.
All that being said, I really struggle to enjoy a novel with plot holes as huge as these so I will be taking a pause on Love the Villain. Perhaps I will give it another shot in a few weeks, a few months, a few years or never, but either way, I've had my fill and if I am craving something similar again I will reread Legendary Master's Wife, Master of Spirit Plants, Rebirth of the Supreme Celestial Being or something similar before I try this novel again. 4 stars because it is decent to kill time with and all danmei novels need the star boost.-
About the bad stuff :-
The stuff that were okay :-
- MC is not a good guy. He's selfish, doesn't offer any help to anyone if it's not an opportunity for him, vindictive and vengeful. I can live with that (Except for some instance). He's cunning and honestly so OP that you don't really sweat about anything when he's fighting anyone which made the story also easy to read as sometimes I need a break for the angsty stuff.
- Actually, there is really no good guy in the story. At best they'll be a bit neutral. Even the mentors they found are quite grey.
(I mean one is the sect master who knows full well that there is ab*sed in his sect and let it go). I mean everyone is mu*dering everyone all the time so why would we expect decent characters ? They'll be killed quite fast. Honorable is maybe the best you could ask. It's personally not a problem for me as it's consistent with the "strong eat the weak" mindset sold since chapter 1.
- The plot is okay. There is a clear repetitive pattern in the way the novel is written. New characters are present to die, friends became foe, dungeon exploration growing power dungeon exploration etc. (Which contribute to the dungeon crawler feeling I have sometimes).
- Age gap, so many age gap romance. The mentor x student he educated since she was 5, the fox destined to love MC and ML baby... it felt creepy at the moment, but it's not really in your face so I kinda live with iit.
For now I'm only in the middle and I'm still okay to continue. Yes the fatigue is coming but I'm already there so my brain need the ending :) Edit : I stop around 350... I may come back but... I went to read the last chapters and the extra and skipping a lot and I'm fine with that- Warning for you readers who doesn't like repeatitive plot, don't read this, I don't reccomend this novel for you readers who bores easily. I dont want to spoiler you all so I'm just gonna say that MC and ML have a one track mind and that is to become strong, how do you become strong in cultivation world? You probably know (secret realms, treasure, pills, etc).
- This novel actually good to binge read. Like really good, the story is not to heavy (i think its because point 1), and I dunno with you all, but cannon fodders in this story is not just suddenly appearing, this story just have TOO MANY people in it, family, heir, lover, its easy to forget them and maybe that's why it seems like the cannon fooders appear out of the blue.
- The concept of this novel is quite unique in my opinion, why? Because to defeat the common stallion novel with harem of beauties, this novel MC have many foster parents, this one I have to say is quite sudden and useless in some chapters. Just read

Saying all this, I still enjoyed my time reading this novel, does it worth it? Yea, its quite enjoyable, does it worth to read a second time? No, definitely no, even for me the repeatitive plot quite bores me sometimelike MC is a calculated person, cunning and everything so he only become some random people and couple son to have backer in cultivation world, there's NOT EVEN a shred of family fluff, MC just accept being adopted son, use his adopted parents name like one, two times and that's it
