This is the translator, Bambi! I read this novel around 2022, and started, then dropped it. Due to popular demand, I picked it up again.

This novel is about a spirit that needs to replenish her weakened soul by consuming the love between the heroine and the male lead. This novel is a bit scary —from my point of view—, because Qiao Ruan manages to wreak havoc on a romantic relationship by using her powers as a ghost tasker (idk what she is tbh, but she has powers, you'll understand when... more>> you read it) and she kinda has to lose herself in the process or she will be find out. She's so terrified of disappearing once and for all that she needs to act the part she's playing. So sometimes you'll see her sobbing but her thoughts are all on how to get the male lead to love her more and more. She's a bit of a psychopath in that regard.

I'm always baffled at what is the true essence of Qiao Ruan because sometimes the author shows us her humanity then she shows her sly and cold scheming and it's kinda mystifying (I can't tell if it's the author's poor writing, maybe it is). I may be reading more than there's to this story (stories are different for all readers, some may see this as utter garbage) but I think it's interesting to read this novel that has both plot, smut and baffling aspects that leave you pondering (a bit).

Most characters serve to display Qiao Ruan's scheming mind and the male lead's love (for example, all of the male lead's wives are bad, #really?) and Qiao Ruan somehow attracts all to adore her (a heroine's halo is too powerful). But sometimes you get attached to some characters. For example, I find the Dowager of the Second Arc pitiful and evil at the same time (imagine your mother-in-law pushing you into your brother-in-law's bed because the family doesn't have any heirs left? But she lost her youngest son, she was never loved by her womanizer husband and her oldest son doesn't have any children while remaining loyal to one woman who can't bear a child) It's all kinds of messed up if I have to say something.

By this point I can't tell whether I like this novel or not, but if you're in for some smut and plot (the smut is mostly rough s*x since all stories are set in ancient times and the author writes domineering chauvinist men, Qiao Ruan loves being a spoiled baby too), and an odd cast of characters... You're in for a ride.

Due to me loving being a nosy translator, I add some footnotes if I feel like it, so you might learn a bit while reading too (You can say, Mom, I'm reading something academic! while secretly reading a historical smutty romance novel~).

As the synopsis says, the MC is always the other girl. Although she also seduces the ML in every life, it seems like he would fall for her either way and outwardly it is him forcing or coercing her into a relationship.

However, in each life, the MC suffers many injustices (even almost being r*ped or killed) under the nominal wife of the ML. And while having the MC as mistress, the ML keeps the relationship with his nominal wife (literally until the end of each story) because of various reasons. And I really don't agree with this: if you love someone, you wouldn't wrong them like this. He should either break up with his wife and only after that pursue a relationship with MC / or stay with your wife and don't entangle with MC.

MC is also at fault, but she's pitiful to the point of frustration, as she never breaks up with the ML after she's continuously wronged by/because of him and he does nothing😩. In the end they end up together and the ex-wife isn't even properly punished for her wrongdoings.
