The author currently stopped writing novels due to him realizing his own lack of skill. This LN ended up as a commercial failure and got discontinued by the publisher. He admitted that he wrote the plot spontaneously but didn't have any specific goal for the end game, he admit that he's clueless so the story just went aimlessly resulting in Japanese readers starting to lose interest and the novel became a failure. He had the original web novel deleted from syosetu. He said he wanted to write another novel but... more>> this time he will try to think more seriously about the plot development from start to finish, but in the end he also abandoned the new one since barely anybody read his new story... At this point I'm feeling pitiful to him for his failures...

I thought this will be something different and mature from the reviews and people recommendations, but it turns out to be the usual average WN. A guy somehow awake in another world and having his FPS game cheat, then he rescued two girls from invading soldiers. After that it's galore of weaponry show offs, since the MC can equip any weapon from the game.

At first I thought there will be decent tactics, but it turns out the only tactic is overwhelming the enemies with infinite modern weapon supplies. Basically just holed up with machineguns and some traps here and there and keep shooting until the enemy gone like rambo...

The game mechanic cheat is too convenient, he got unlimited amount of supply. At first he can't use shop to repair broken/unusable weapons but later he conveniently got an upgrade to use it right when he needs it.

If I need to summarize this series it can be simply written as "Military-otaku+Michael Bay of WN, simple plot with explotions everywhere." <<less

The raw is amazing, the amount of explosive sh*t pulled later in this is great!

He has infinite rations, medicine.... so really this could become one of the flashiest novels around. Good to see stuff like this. I hope he can just produce 1, 000, 000 rations and sell them.

First take after 20 chapters: It's a really interesting idea that is severely hampered by the author's juvenile/poorly-planned writing style.

This novel tackles a very interesting trope, Guns/SciFi Tech in a medieval Fantasy World.

... more>> It's use of the specific concept is not terrible, and is, I think, average, or perhaps above average. The author shows an understanding of the weaponry his character uses, and uses that well.

I like that.

The world the author is beginning to build also holds some potential interest, though I admit I am not confident that the author will be able to develop an interesting plot.

Still, I do like the world he is making.

Now let's talk about what I don't like:

Lots of s*upid logic. Why would our MC stay in a hut for a year after getting to this new world, with powers from his VRMMO? How utterly boring. And we get no development from this? Just a generic timeskip?

There is so much emphasis on s*x, and wanting to have s*x, and it comes across cringey. This feels like a power fantasy for the author, and kinda feels like he is projecting what he wishes would happen to himself.

The unrealistically sexually promiscuous female MC, the forced logic to make that acceptable, her own father being fine with it, I mean I understand everything. But it doesn't make me like it, nor not find it cringey.

Also... our MC is polite. s*upidly, absurdly, illogically polite.

Yes, this is a novel by a Japanese author, and their culture does have an emphasis on politeness.

But our MC is far beyond polite to the point that he's pretty much spineless when it comes to women, relationships, the whole lot. I understand it. I don't like it.

There is a large focus on this right now. Much more so then plot development. The plot development exists, but there is no overriding plot. Right now it's just slice of life, kill everything and borderline erotica.

All in all, I don't have high hopes for this series. But I will read more as more chapters come out, because this is a rare trope that I almost never get to see, and want to read something about it.

Note: 3/5 because for all its downsides, I really like the general concept of Guns/SciFi Tech in a medieval Fantasy World, and this is 1 of like 3 total stories that use this idea. I'd settle for pretty much any story with this concept at this point. <<less

There are points to this story I would like to defend:

• It's Gun Wank! It's a Curbstomp!

- NO. The author in his attempt to give detail to his story wrote overly long descriptions on the functions of guns which made it appear as gun p*rn. Also, I believe readers who prefer fantasy wanking may be put off by how much the gun defeats the sword. That's just pragmatism at its best people, don't take it personally.

Furthermore, if it were gun wank and a stompfic then the MC should have waltzed... more>> right through every threat he encounters single-handedly. He doesn't.

In the one instance he did, it was only by applying videogame logic, which is to get the biggest gun and heaviest armor he could find. Yet, there were too many enemies to shoot and he was almost overwhelmed when the soldiers refused to yield and applied tactics against him. It was a hard fought victory that his enemies could have won had they known more about him.

•The MC is OP! And MC is a creep!

-NO. He is almost killed countless times and is saved by the people around him. In fact I applaud how competent his enemies are that despite facing an opponent they don't understand, it doesn't stop them from trying to outmaneuver him and nearly succeeding. Or in one case, he was nearly overpowered in combat by his opponent. Instead he takes full advantage of skills by not being an idiot which is why he seems overpowered.

He appears creepy because spent his life being a shut-in, which translates to complete lack of social skills or to put it in simple terms: he doesn't know how to properly react around people. People with Social Anxiety Disorder for instance. Also, even though he acknowledges his urges, he is a prude with his common sense dictating that indecent thought should not be acted upon and there is a time and place for such activities.

• The girls are nothing more than clingy harem add-ons!

-NO. The reason why they were clingy is because people who find themselves in emotionally distressing situations will develop strong emotional ties or dependence on each other. Which is why the MC felt more open on talking to them and the girls being more affectionate. In the beginning the first girl would have torn him to pieces if he hadn't healed her sister.

I like the story very much since for once I'm not reading about a loser who is loved by all for no absolute reason. If anything the only value the MC has in the eyes of the people is his firepower. A nice breath of fresh air from the usual low-brow literature rampant on the internet.

I also like that how the author conveyed the effects of killing have on a person and the motivations behind it.

The only thing that I didn't like is that the MC had unlimited rations and water. It would have been more compelling for the game skills to be able to provide his needs only if he spent points which can be accumulated by killing to make for some interesting moral dilemma. <<less

It has some imperfection but all in all this is really a good novel, the MC find himself in ecchi moments but he abstains by to be a harem seeker's maintaining a attitude quite serius and mature tending more to romance. He is enought powerfull respect at the majority of characters with his weapons, but it turns out to be the bare minimum to survive and protect the people to which he holds in a cruel world, and this makes it far from being just entertainement but a novel very... more>> respectable. I hope it will translated as soon as possible.

I really really really like this one. The MC isnt s*upid the heroine isnt s*upid and there are some really bad ass moments with little light hearted moments inbetween. The characters seem 2 dimentional atm but its expected to see them evolve

for instance

The MC still retains his Japanese values which holds him back but it would be amazing to see the author evolve the MC into a complete badass.

This story explores the trope "modern weapon in fantasy world."

Naturally, this makes our MC rather competent and OP since bullets and guns trump any fancy magic spells. He has unlimited ammo, food, and water which gives him MASSIVE logistical advantage. While I'm slightly irritated by some of common Japanese light novel tropes such as shyness toward s*x or oblivious toward female attraction (hopefully it won't be as bad as other light novels), I do hope to see MC mature mentally since he'll be killing lot of people from now on.... more>> Overall, I enjoyed reading how MC crushed battalion of invading soldiers in a siege by himself. I just hope that translator updates more frequently.

Well, the MC at first wasted around 1 year due to fear to leave the hut he appeared and also hope that someone would show up. He used that time to get used to the abilities he had but he could have left the hut much sooner. This is one point that bothered me, the author could have chosen to say that instead of simple waiting, he was training and getting used to things but I still think 1 year was way to much, in my opinion 1 month is... more>> enough to get used to the new situation at most.

Since he has unlimited ammo, medicine, rations, food, water so I expect him to take advantage of that, and seen that the world is at war he will play a mayor part on it since among the thing he has are all kinds of weapons you can think of that an FPS can have.

But I do hope that the author can manage to do a good job with the balance of things, since MC has unlimited ammo and such he could sell those for money and aid an legion on his own but I expect him to have some restrictions or things will get bored.

I have some faith that the novel will turn ok if the MC has restrictions of his unlimited supplies, if not he just have to summon 1 ton of bullets, melt them and wala! you got 1 ton of iron.

The important part... wolf girls... kemonomimi!! Fluffy tails!! Fluffy ears!! so +1 star for it XD... also the art is really good <<less

The only thing I like is the world setting and the gun mechanics. The MC not so much. He annoy the hell out of me. This novel would have been great and awesome if the author hadn't come up with the idea that adding a pe*verted MC would improve the story. This story would have still work fine without the romance or any girls saving in fact. The MC personality irritate me. He doesn't have any caution or think ahead when he do things. Him making rookie mistakes I can... more>> accept, but I prefer the author using a more darker tone in the story. It would have been more interesting if he had let the girls die or couldn't save them in time. And then when he decide to save them, he do things half ass and run away with them. At least wipe out all the traces. They kept running without killing off their pursuers and instead keep getting hunted down. He had the strength to stand and fight once and for all solve his enemies. So pointless. In every battle he is always so passive. It annoy me, because he could have avoided the casualties if he had just acted in the beginning instead keep running away only to be cornered and fight back.

The author started with such great dark settings and then the next chapter he had the MC being fluffy with the girl. That is what I find hard to accept. The flirting is just not suited for this kind of story. It could have been a exciting war story instead author tone it down with MC interacting with the girl. The dumbest thing was after MC brutally killed thousand of soldiers with explosives, mines and even burn them alive with flamethrower, the author thought it was a good idea to have the MC spare the commander of the army just because she is woman. A brutal woman that is one of most powerful enemies there is and almost killed him. Just because she is a woman and beautiful she get to live, while thousand of innocents died because of her. And conveniently she suffer from memory loss from the battle. Such bullshit <<less

I like it a lot. Take the typical 'cheat protagonist' isekai genre, switch out swords and magic for lots of guns + author with better writing skills than the average amateur writer + awesome translation job = fun time reading. The battles are tense and exciting and not easy even with unlimited weapons cheat. Does a good job portraying the MC's psychology realistically too.

It's modern/gun-wank. That's all it is. It's for people who've never shot a gun before and only played like Call of Duty to go "GAR! Look! Guns so cool! So manly! Gar!"

Utterly disgusting premise, with a "pe*verted" beta-male protagonist.

However, the author does try to scale threats, and tries to make the story about how even with all of these cheat abilities and guns, there are limits to what one man can do, and that there are still things that threaten him.

... more>> So... Good on the story for that, at least.

What's probably more concerning is that the author is basically choosing chapter names from shitty action movie titles, and forming arcs loosely based off of their storylines with no respect for his own story and what made each movie work.

It's... passable. So 3 stars for somewhat elevating a shitty wank/curbstomp power-fantasy story written by a gun-otaku that has never actually fired a gun and therefore doesn't understand guns at all.

A big problem is the translation. The translator and editor actively put so many notes in the text itself instead of as footnotes, and the notes are not really needed/relevant half the time, that this literally becomes a MST (Mystery Science Theater) story for entire chapters. Even if I agree with the content of the notes and find them funny, they detract from the reading experience and prejudice you against the protagonist. A good exercise is to read the chapter with notes and then without notes. You'll find that the MC becomes orders of magnitude more likeable without the funny/snide comments cutting into scenes that are meant to show his development or flaws. <<less

This felt a little lackluster in telling, especially at the first part when the author just glosses over the year that MC spends in solitude by saying he had infinite rations so he didn't go hungry.

This sets the tone for all future conflicts and problems in the story that the MC and his accessories encounters, as they are all solved by his infinite supply of weaponry hidden in his gadget that also summons anything else the MC might need with the press of a button.

As to why I'm calling the mc's companions accessories is because their sole purpose seems to be making the MC look better. Even the most detailed side-character so far, the older dog-girl he rescues at the start can be boiled down to eyecandy/MC teaser who needs rescuing and relies on MC completely after only a day of knowing him.

I have nothing against OP mc's but reading "he took out a light machine gun/grenade launcher/minigun/food ration/ scifi-armor" followed by explanations of said items gets boring very fast. There are no tactics in the fights that are worth mentioning, every fight is basically a "don't bring a knife into a gunfight"-type of situation where the MC slaughters his enemies with ease.

As a last mention I got the feeling that the author has little to no experience actually handling guns.

A very promising story. Your typical transferred to another world with some power gained from a modern era game, but due to the short number of chapters we really can't see the limitations or the intricacies of the game mechanics. And ugh! That cliff hanger at the end of chapter 4!

If you liked JSDF manga/light novel I'm fairly certain you'll like this one.

First 5 chapters are just excellent. OP gun fighter, FPS game mechanics as his personal skill, slaughtering of roman-type enemies... but then why does he start looking less and less op? He has the ability to win a war almost single-handedly but an arrow goes past his face and suddenly he's just an advanced long range mage? And he suddenly is afraid because he COULD die here? What about that awesome fight scene where he threw away all thoughts of survival for two little girls? And now they're harem members...

And any limitations that might make the story interesting (other than fear of arrows or magic) are pretty much dealt with when he levels up and gets massively broken OP skills.

Enemy are only fighting because someone more powerful than them will kill them if they don't. Terrible job making the enemy more personal and non-faceless.

I think the story is perfect for gun or war otaku?

while I do love scene between sisters and MC but the chapter filled with actions turn me off..

full packed war or fight description and weapon characteristics and all, obviously one part of Action genre, not my cup of tea.. It's turn off for me, even tho the girl's cute..

had an interesting setting but quite a few problems.

  1. Author feels like bragging his knowledge of modern military weapons. Instead of making the main character consistent, MC is using a different military weapon each time. It would make sense if it was used well according to situation but no. MC kept using a different weapon each time. If it were me there, I would have utilized the range of a sniper and killed aerial enemies first and commanders before switching to a machine gun. MC became s*upid in my opinion because of this.
  2. Too many jargons. Author showing off military knowledge went way beyond what would have been acceptable. Too many weapons and unknown terms used made this barely readable. No use remembering what the weapon or understanding what it does since the author will switch weapons the next f*cking paragraph
  3. Not an adventure isekai. So much potential lost

The story starts slow but WOW does it get better.

The MC does seem powerful but NOT invincible the fear of death is always lurking around the MC which starts to twist his mental state... well I can't give too much away but the novel is good and I just love how the MC progresses.

Now this FPS VRMMO player transported to a different world is not "new" but I think is getting better. Frankly out of all the other like novels of the same genre I like this one he most.

MC is just unlikable and the inconsistency in the plot makes the immersiveness of the novel. It started out great but quickly turns to bordline eroge, the emotion between the characters is just one sided, even the enemy are simply dumb and too much plot convience, not a single character that you would want to like.

This series is an incredible one, it quite accurately describes the effect of weapons on inferior tactics and equipment. As a military soldier, I truly enjoy this and hope the author will continue to write more. The translation could use a little work and the weapon specifics could go in the back or the front so the action doesn't get so tedious, other than that it is amazing.

It probably doesn't deserve five full stars. I would rate it at 3.5 before I read the last couple of chapters, now 4.0. MC is very, very OP. Characters are nothing too special. What it excels at is dishing out complete carnage to the enemies of mofumofu. You will feel the bloodlust. And it has lots of gun/weapon (description) p*rn. Whether or not any of it is accurate is something you can debate in the comments.

He looks OP but there are lot of ways to kill or beat him. For example the first woman has higher speed than him and he is worried that he might be done in by something agile.

He has infinite rations, medicine.... so really this could become a bit of an bad point down the road. Like I still have no idea if he can just produce 1.000.000 rations and sell them.

It is the authors first work on Syosetsu and the chapters translated are from 2012, the story is being updated still today so I expect improvements in those 4 years of writing. Therefor I will keep going with it.
