Rating this novel is a pain.... when reading the tag " pill based cultivation", I was hoping for something like " legendary masters wife". As you might already guess... it's not.

So, is it cultivation? Is it a system world? Harem fights? Well.... somewhat of everything but nothing at the same time. Let's try to unravel this mess.

The story is, that MC transmigrated to another "ancient" world. The body he took over had the same looks and same name. When he walks up, he is bound to a... more>> system and the goal is to become a harem member and then ascend the ranks.

So far the idea. Although he didn't want to, he was send to the harem. Then the system told him the things he gets by ascending in rank.... foundation building pill and cultivation manual. How to ascend the ranks in a harem where the emperor is straight? Making an audacious deal! The treasury is running low, so how about getting a promotion for every 200k silver teals MC donates to the treasury? You just have to let him roam freely.

So the "straight " ML made the deal and fell rather fast in love with this genius male concubine.

To be honest, there were only 2 ranks he really bought and all the others were for some kind of contribution.

So how did MC make so much money? Of course by "inventing" modern stuff. Beginning with toothbrush and toothpaste to food, clothes, umbrella, amusement park, cement streets and so on. It gets kind of s*upid. The inventions are so mixed... I'm sure no one would really know how to recreate all this stuff. Oh and he does it in super short time frames too.

The whole story progresses a bit too smoothly.

Oh right, what about the cultivation? Well... it happens on the side. It's mentioned the same way as brushing teeth in the evening... just done before bed. Everything goes super smooth, no hiccups and they are superior from the start.

What about the harem intrigues? Ending pretty fast. of course ML is sending away a much as possible... but keeps the mothers of his children. Yeah, ML has kids, but you will only read about the boy. His daughter is up for like 5 sentences.

That is a huge problem by the way... the writer inserts people and things and then never addressed them again or just once or twice. Like that sentient vine....a 100 chapters later it was mentioned in a sub sentence and I was like " wait, that vine is still there?!".

The world and the people are largely 2d. MC and ML are a bit deeper but just a little bit.

What about the system? Well.... it basically was just there to give rewards and happily left at chapter 210... well, the system... not the store. Don't know how that works.

I don't know if it is a translation issue or writer issue but the story isn't exactly good on the details and numbers. Ages and money amounts change in like the same sentence sometimes. Since the translation is really good otherwise, I suspect the writer.

So, would I recommend to read it? Hmm... it was kind of entertaining.. at least it didn't make me scream in annoyance. If you don't mind the non existing depth and the "best of" mix... go ahead and enjoy. I will most likely not read this again... I miss that feeling, that they actually had to work towards their goal and putting in effort. <<less

Gets boring with chapters on going.

they have a poor quality translation on kindle to buy. I bought it and read it for the sake of trying to finish the novel since it was going ok up until chapter 50 though there are many unrealistic parts in the novel,

but I fell asleep while reading which is new since that in fact never happens when I read new novels.

So you can tell how bored I was with MC being abnormally OP and ML despite being the emperor is so well how... more>> can I say it, too easygoing for a emperor I suppose.

well I still gave 3 stars since it ok to read it to pass time. <<less

It had a lot of potential and I was looking forward to it a lot during the first few parts. However, the more it continued, the more lacking it became. I don't know what exactly this author wanted to achieve by writing this because to me, it was simply all over the place.

There were attempts on harem intrigues, imperial politics, martial arts cultivation, modern industries in ancient times, adventuring & mixing in with the jianghu, etc etc. But all of these points were so superficially treated that the whole thing... more>> turned into a boring read instead. Later on even the emperor turned OOC and it was so cringe how he kept calling the MC "baby" in, like, every single sentence directed to him.

A more well-researched and thorough author could take any one concept introduced in this novel and turn it into a hit. But alas, this author had the ideas but not the execution skills.

There was also a brief fatphobic comment in later chapters where:

the MC tells the ML not to gain weight or else he'll be ugly. It didn't seem like a joke.

Another thing that peeved me was how ridiculously easy it was for MC to execute modern ideas during the ancient times, especially the parts

when an amusement park complete with rides was built out of nowhere, and when both him and the ML built a "cable car" transport system for a remote village. They literally built it on their own in less than a day.

I understand that maybe the author didn't want to burden readers with technical details but if you're going to write about setting up modern businesses during ancient times, you have to be prepared to present to readers in an interesting way how these businesses could be built, operated, and maintained using the available technology during that era.

That's the main goal of this genre but why was it so glossed over here?

It can be tolerated if it happened just once and if it was a minor plot event. But this is literally the MC's whole schtick. His entire persona is built around the fact that he's a modern times person - who somehow knows all these things despite not even being an accomplished person in any industry before he transmigrated - who keeps solving ancient times problems with modern solutions. Even the emperor is reduced somewhat to being his lackey when it comes to this.

There are other plot holes and inconsistencies that I'm too lazy to point out, especially in the later volumes where the author gave up on character development and just added in a bunch of events to showcase how OP the leads are and a bunch of other characters for more face-slapping.

Overall, if you're looking for a mindless reading experience, you can consider this. But if you want satisfaction, look further. <<less

Well, I agree with other comments, this novel is full of all kinds of mixed up things. There is even some pseudoscience that is made to appear as an indisputable fact.

For MC and ML's love story, MC is one of ML's 4 male concubines. ML also had more than 40 other concubines and there was an empress. Please note that this may be uncomfortable (yes I was uncomfortable). Before ML knew MC, ML preferred women and had slept with several members of his harem, and even had 2 children. After ML got to know MC and met him several times, he admitted that MC was smart and he immediately fell in love with him. And MC also immediately threw himself at him. Honestly, ML who is in his 20s is like a teenager who has just discovered love and MC seems to have no integrity at all.

Imagining MC living in a palace with other concubines feels like living in the same building with your current boyfriend's exes. And what's worse is that some of them are already sleeping and having children with your boyfriend. OMG!

As for ML's personality, it is actually a bit inconsistent with his position as emperor. There are many things that make him look immature. He is also a bit twisted. It can be seen when he brought down the MC family, I mean it's true that his father and mother ignored him and his mother even behaved badly towards him. But should they be treated so cruelly?. And also his jealousy of MC's former love interest who never dated MC at all. Why is he so jealous if he himself already has children with other women?. Eww

Volumes 1-4 are actually quite good, but Volume 5 made me like this book even less. Although I'm quite happy there is a part discussing the MC's home world, I don't think it needs to be in the main plot. If the plot is in a side story, that's fine <<less

This one was both very interesting and then very much not interesting. Huge potential and the start was really sucking you into the story.

However... the famous however... I felt that the story took "a wrong turn" pretty early on. I personally would have wanted to see a little bit more struggle before climbing the emperors bed. A little bit more system tasks. A little bit more icky concubines being icky. Story really speed drove through all of it and MC is way too op. Way too much op.

Story is also... more>> mixing too many components together, making it confusing and fragmented. Palace intrigue, business management, cultivation, martial arts, pharmaceutical, system control, travelling adventure and family life with children. It's just a bit pot of messy soup at the end.

Again, this is how I personally felt while reading. Not dissing anyone liking the story. Author definitely has potential. :) <<less

This should've been called "immortal cultivation upgrade system" because MC palace life drama as a consort is just way too easy and drama free besides the first half. Him getting promoted in consort rank is only a matter of ML needing reasons to promote him and making sure he didn't prompt him too fast and too high in order to not upset the other court officials.

The whole premise in getting promoted in rank is learning to become a immortal cultivator and that's the end goal of the whole novel.

It was... more>> fun at first but I feel like it started to drag pass the halfway mark. MC, a modern business man, suddenly becoming the strongest cultivator AND doctor... I mean I get it. I expected Gary Stu with these kind of story, but I want at least some kind of hipcups and some drama to make MC work for it.

I also mean that it drags on because the last arc is them traveling through dimension back to MC's modern world and experiencing modern life as well as MC original family drama, AND modern cultivation conflicts with other modern cultivators.

I just find it gets boring pass the second half. The last arc with modern cultivation conflicts is really unnecessary long and meaningless. Should've been a short few extra chapters with modern life, but it wasn't and I was so bored to tears by that point, I just hanging on because I was literally at the end so my completionist self have to finish it. <<less

Translation is superb and made me enjoy this story thoroughly; I thank the hardworking translator who has made the reading experience wonderful. Although sometimes wrong names were used, I tend to blame the author on that because I know Chinese authors usually tend to mistakenly switch names around.😂

I am rating as a full five because it has been an entertaining and enjoyable experience for me. I was looking for something light-hearted with OP MC and satisfying face-slaps and this story scratched my itch. It's not for those looking to nourish... more>> their brains.

Imho, this story will only work for you if you've fallen in love with the characters in the first 20 chapters because this is mostly about their adventures. The MC and ML managed to charm me so I read all 247 chapters and they took on awesome adventures. I am very satisfied with how their romance developed and how they sweetly they interacted after the relationship was established.

The plot did go through various directions but I enjoyed every single moment of it because I already cared about the characters. It has a taste Ye Yilou's works, an author whose stories never failed to make me read up to 600 chapters. I wish there were extras that expounded on what happened after the end 🥲 <<less
