When Imperial Grandson Liu Zhao chose his future wife, with a wave of his pen, he circled Gu Jiu’s name. He said resolutely, “I want her!”

With a decree, the emperor bestowed marriage.

One after another, everyone dropped by to congratulate Gu Jiu. Sure enough, it was her dumb luck to marry the Imperial Grandson. Facing everyone’s blessings, Gu Jiu smiled on the surface, but in her heart, she was cursing fiercely.

In her lifetime, the luckiest thing that happened to Gu Jiu was to die of illness but unexpectedly traverse to ancient times and live a second time.

And the most unfortunate thing that happened to her was meeting the Imperial Grandson Liu Zhao.

It was rumoured that Imperial Grandson Liu Zhao was graceful, elegant, gentle, refined, humble, polite and courteous.

Gu Jiu: Hehe!

The world was blind. That man was obviously two-faced, cunning, deceitful, treacherous, with the ambition of wild wolves and a great villain. He was like the tyrannical male lead who is written by the screenwriter to die in the finale but fans still feel distressed for him.

It was rumoured that the Gu family’s second daughter Gu Jiu was soft, gentle, virtuous, frail and tender.

Liu Zhao: What gentle, virtuous, frail and tender—everything is fake.

That woman was obviously an aojiao, selfish, bad-tempered, narrow-minded; little foodie with a soft and delicate body that wasn’t easy to push over.

This was well written. Like it was so in depth. Every chapters has it's essence. Although it can get boring because of how lengthy some chapters are but it's all necessary to build up the plot. I also just love the character development of the characters, especially the supporting ones.

I also admire the fact that most of the characters are very competent. Even the antagonists are worthy to be praised because of how brilliant their minds are. Although, there are definitely still characters that are annoying to hell at first... more>> like the Princess Huyang but she'll be helpful in the future.

Yes, there is romance obviously but so far, its more focused on politics, business, plots, the harem and palace drama. In fact, its kind of rare to read the male lead's point of view. Like it's either he's away or busy or something.
Spoiler

Thus, up to ch337, the FL is still not pregnant. Well, that's part of the reason and also because she doesn't want to get pregnant at a young age. Speaking of, the FL is sometimes shtty. Lol. Like she kind of doesn't respect the ML sometimes.

[collapse]

Also, don't worry too much on the ML's fidelity because well, from the hundreds of chapters I've read, he looks like a faithful person to the FL and he doesn't have much interests on other women. Yknow the usual doting lead.

BTW, this is a very slow paced story. Like really. It wil start of when she's 14 years old. And in the latest chapter I've read, she's only about 17 years old. So, be patient if you want to read it.

However, I gotta say that sometimes it can be a bit too over the top like the FL literally was sick in her last life but through idk reading books she was able to be this good in business is somewhat meh for me. Like if I'm not mistaken the field she focused on, which she had more knowledge of is medicine but like for the most part of this book, her medical skills wasn't really the main focused. So, yeah that's kind of like a meh for me hahahhaa. But, it's okay I guess. <<less

This is hidden gem.

At beginning I though this is just another generic C-ancient novel to past the time. It starts with the same plot of other countless novels, a girl crossing to another ancient world, with medical knowledge, generic evil stepmother + stepsister, indifferent father, and generic bad reputation prince (but smart and handsome) male lead that later they will fight from backyard to get the throne together. But as stories goes on, there is details and senses that not in other novels.

The incredible details and backstories of each characters... more>> (even those not so important characters), and the progress of characters growth (ML, sides and villains only. FL imo did not have any much change character). Most of characters did not look like 2D character (okay, some did look like template). As the stories goes on, each of characters will reveal their progress of growing from immature child to adult that saddled with reality of lives, and later to older generations with their wisdom (or lack of), or (incase of some villains) become deeper in depravity and self destruct hate.

Spoiler

I have to say the 1 I really like to see is the progress of Princess HuYang that was so annoying at beginning. She look s*upid, greedy, shallow, having messy criminal lives. After the death of her husband and destruction of his clan, she moved on by hopping from 1 man to another. But hidden underneath she know her limitations and short end as bad mother. She later face it up about hating her ex husband and her children, and know she is hated by her own children while pretending it's nothing. She know her brother killed her son, she fight her brother, yet she cannot bring herself to really hate her brother. Until at last, betting her own life to see her "beloved" for the last time. And even later after she died, the mystery of (maybe) her hidden son. She deserve a story of her own (maybe will be full of smut lol).

Or the 2nd emperor of the story (ML's father), who start as hiding his edges under the facade of unreliable shameless, prodigal prince to be shameless, stingy emperor but patient to clean up his courtier, and trying his best to lead the country to better condition. He is not best father figure, but he tried to warn his children to know the limit while fight each other because he understand it cannot be avoided. Yet keep sinking to the vicious cycle of emperor hating his own sons for growing up and maybe threatening his position. And later realizing his own health limitation, put his best son as crown prince while make sure his other sons will not even trying to rebel to ensure they could live by showing his father side for the last time to 1 of them (the others pretty much abandoned by him). All while, the only side that was steady from beginning to end is he actually very good brother who trying his best (according to him) for his sister.

[collapse]

The hardships of those royal clans, frankly other novels idea and execution look so immature compare to this novel. Most of other novel is about unrealistically REECCCH ML having countless soldiers at disposal and rich business, and other princes throwing their money and wealth to buy/bribe/having subordinates but no explain about sources where these money come from. This novel however, tell how much hardship of each royal descendants has, each princes start with the same basic (no money, restricted conditions set by ancestors, and under heavy watch of their father who look at them like enemies). The losers become dog that can be trampled and the winner is no better because being emperor mean another hardship to regulate the dwindling country that riddled with natural disasters and rebels.

This novel explain so much details about royal expenditures, headaches and heartaches of the royal wives trying to manage the account to reach end meet, which later make them emptied their dowries or fight their pretend to be blind husbands. In which turn some of the husband to bringing in concubines they actually cannot afford. (I really sympathize with these royal wives, because their husband trying to live in a life style they cannot paid, did not trying to find a way to make progress, yet keep bringing concubines that costing money and gave birth to shu-children who will fight the madam's di-children for inheritance that was actually the madam's money. It strange if the royal wives did not try to kill their husbands.)

The only thing that not make sense is HOW OP FL is, like, she created mega business empire + real life sim city real estate game from zero, right under the nose of the emperor (ML's grandpa) without being question/doubted/ransacked by super stingy, money grubber emperor with loan from national bank. By the end of the novel, FL practically become saint like god of wealth figures, patroning many schools and her business empire practically support the country. ML unfortunately stay penniless till the end and gaining the reputation of mooch off his wife money. And other princes can only bite their tongue in envy.

All in all, this is super slow paced stories. ML sometimes on and off in the middle doing mission, and only show up full in later part of the stories about ML being emperor and his health in his old age from FL's POV. Full of details about struggle to get or lack of money, building the country, some politics here and there, backyard fight of other characters. So it could be boring read for those impatient to read long text. <<less

Translator here.

This is a historical novel that takes the well-loved trope of transmigration and weaves it into a richly layered narrative of political intrigue, business acumen, and human relationships. The story follows Gu Jiu, a modern woman who dies young due to illness and wakes up in the body of a noble lady in ancient times. While the premise may seem familiar, the execution of this novel is what sets it apart from others in the genre.

Gu Jiu’s strength lies not in her medical skills (despite the misleading title) but... more>> in her intelligence, adaptability, and understanding of power dynamics. Coming from a wealthy business family in her past life, she brings a shrewd and pragmatic approach to problem-solving. She quickly stabilizes her position in her family, wresting control from her stepmother, and then sets her sights on building her wealth - till here, the trope is familiar.

Her success doesn’t come from reckless gambling or unearned plot armour; instead, she is methodical, making well-calculated decisions and strategic alliances. An important aspect of her character is her ability to not 'eat alone'—she ensures that powerful people benefit from her ventures, which in turn guarantees her continued success and survival.

Liu Zhao, the male lead, is the grandson of the emperor and the son of Ning Wang, a capable yet shameless prince. Liu Zhao is indeed smart and powerful, as is expected of a male lead. He is strategic and ambitious. But his relationship with Gu Jiu has a power balance. He has status, she has money - and both exploit each other's strengths. His relationship with Gu Jiu is a slow-burn partnership between two people who understand each other’s ambitions and strengths. Their marriage is not the end of Gu Jiu’s struggles—it simply moves her into a new battlefield: the imperial family.

What makes this a great read is its expansive and immersive world-building. It goes beyond primarily focusing on the protagonist and their immediate circle. The story fleshes out the lives, struggles, and ambitions of several side characters—each of whom feels real and well-developed such as the emperor, Ning Wang (Liu Zhao’s father), Princess Huyang (Ning Wang's sister described as a shit-stirring stick) and Gu Jiu’s business partners (Marquis Lu, the imperial treasurer).

The novel doesn’t just revolve around Gu Jiu and Liu Zhao’s trajectory; it makes readers care about these other characters, their victories, and their downfalls.

What really stood out to me was the extreme sense of loss and emptiness I felt when certain characters died, and when I finished the last chapter. I don't usually cry while reading - but this book made me cry several times. It's not traditional angst-ridden but it tells a set of very grand human stories. <<less

Phenomenal. I don't really like to read books beyond 300 chapters and I rarely go through a long book. But this book, after ages, is the only one that I've persisted through till the end. Part of the commerce and development kept me hooked.

As for romance, it's the soft and mellow kind. I really their bonding. Till the end they were the best couple I've read about. They weren't passionate or sweet and greasy nor abusive. They had a healthy relationship with boundaries. Even though MC was a bit too... more>> omnipotent and everything went smoothly for her till the end, the support and protection from ML was a key factor in the development. I'm not too much a fan of OP MCs but I still loved her.

The story, in my experience is one of its kind. The author must've done exhaustive research. I really liked his writing style.

Even though we have a pair of protagonists, the book contains snippets of life of people from all walks of life. This made the book really interesting. And the author didn't just discard characters l, but developed them and gave them a good background. I like this novel a lot. Even though I really like MC centric novels. This one broke the precept. It was fun while it lasted and I am still involved the melon holy of their deaths at the end.

Guess what I spent my precious time on reading a fictional novel right before exam days and now I am worried if I can even pass. Hopefully I can. Can supplementary exam is going to be my only saviour. This novel was truly a boon and a curse <<less

Excellence Refreshing!!

Only dislike The "NAME OF THE NOVEL".

At the first glance of the title "medical..", It's make you think.. Ah.. The FL must be 'super-clinche -overpower-magicfinger-medical/poison+materialartist-transmiggrated-FL'..

Spoiler

just like other novels

[collapse]

But im glad it's not..

The Novel was Super Unique & Refreshing.. (Too bad the translation was not complete.. So when u read the mtl.. Just ignore some 'names' & 'ages' typos..)

The story plot was full compact. It's doesn't only focus on FL, ML & their people around them.. But it extend towards outside.

Spoiler

the outside I mean was the the characters which was created didn't seem connect.. But the essence still there.

[collapse]

The couple's (FL & ML) romance & marriage life was written So Well and quite a bit realistic.

The author done a very good job! To digging out every single character 'temperament'.. Slowly build up 'Momentum & Development' in every plots.. Which made this novel Unique!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ALSO TO BE WARNED, THE STORY PLOTS WAS MORE TO POLITICAL, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND SLICE OF LIFE (Less Romance) AND THE STORYPACT WAS SUPER SLOW! SO FOR THOSE WHO DOESN'T HAVE PATIENT.. Might as well IGNORE this novel & Move on.. <<less

I felt the need to write a review for this long novel. It is worth a try, I started reading it with the thought of stopping when I felt bored as it happens to me most of the time with long novels. However, to my surprised it didn't happened.

I liked the novel's rich cast of characters. I have opinions on many of them. Many are very remarkable and some will leave a lasting impression.

Since its such a long novel, some deaths are unavoidable, I have to admit that I felt... more>> sad although I understand that die from old age is a blessing in a sense.

The female lead is likeable and well rounded, I believe she matured throughout the years, you can see the subtle changes in her personality. As for the ML, I did not dislike him but it was not one of my favourites either. I'll say it's an OK ML.

Spoiler

The ML is not a steady person, he's always irritable and has a bad temper, that will pretty much last till the end. He is a good husband, an ok father I guess. He's not overly smart nor he has superb abilities, still he is the best option among his sibling because... oh well his sibling were all pretty s*upid but the s*upidity and ineptitude of the princes is a consequence of how they were raised and it makes sense. The ML is a good fighter and broad-minded when it comes to FL's cleverness (he's genuinely happy she's so capable). I personally belive that the ML's personality was somewhat lacking but it is not a major flaw

[collapse]

There are other characters that are worth mention

Spoiler

the crown prince Renxuan son of Empress Cui, I felt pity for him, he is indeed mediocre, unable to manage his people, too soft and indecisive, a coward with many flaws but he was not a bad man, he cared about his family, he knew his shortcomings he was treated badly by everyone... the biggest misfortune for him was to be born in the imperial family not all people have the vocation of being a leader and he was ruined by his parents.

Princess Huyan.. well she was a mess, spoiled rotten, selfish, lustful, bad mother, bad daughter, bad sister.. she only lived for herself. I didn't like her character at all. The only thing she has is self awareness but that's about it

Emperor wende (former Prince Ning, ML's father) he was a good monarc for the common people, as a father he was bad but not aa bad as his predecessor, it was clear that hia favorite son is the ML but at the same time he envy him, was wary of him and resented him.. even though they went through thick and thin together, even when they relied on each other.. (this point was even acknowledged by him later on) to be honest I was quite socked reading that nonsense of hating the crown prince and all your sons.. I don't know as a western myself I guess it's hard to understand. Monarchs in my view most of the time are not against every single one of their children that is absurd. They are not immortals... I have to add, that this is the first novel that is too radical with this thing abour heirs and sons being despised. I'll stop here.. otherwise I'll keep ranting..

Old Marter Gu (FL's grandfather), he was a mysterious old man who was introduced like a troublemaker, with no sense of shame, s*upid, old and unbearable.. However, his back story is heartbreaking, the more the story progreso the more yo know how remarkable he was and how is talent was ultimately what caused his demise. The only one that felt for him was the FL, they had a beautiful bond later on. It was sad when he died and how he died.. *sigh*

Additionally, I felt the death of the elderly.. like the Ancestor, the old Mariquis and his old wife... it was sad. They died of old age and I understand it is part of life but still was sad in my view.

Master Gu (gu zi li FL's father) : at the beginning he is portrayed as a typical ancient man.. he doesn't care about the children of the first wife but doesn't hate them. He is mostly indifferent. His second wife Xie shi was a concubine and of course he doted on her and neglected his children. It all seem to improved when FL took over and he seemed rather steady. However, the more the story progresses you can see his true nature... he killed FL's mom, he is selfish and not cut for officialdom in the capital, he overestimate himself and believes he can hold a high ranking position but later you can see he is mediocre, he got caught in a case that nearly cost his life, he never repented. He treated all his grown children badly because in his mind they must follow his lead and please him in everything otherwise he won't be happy. I guess this horrible trait is not apparent in the beginning because all his children were young thus naturally they will listen but later it became a horrible mess. His dead was also... utterly selfish.

[collapse]

As for the romance

Spoiler

it was ok, 5/10 I think it was not well executed.. it is not that ia not credible it is most that is not properly shown. There are too few sweet moments in a sense.. don't get me wrong they love each other and rely on each other but most of the time we dont get to see those moments.. In my opinion, the romance could have been handled better and shown more in different ways. I don't know how to explain but I can only say It did not stirred my heart like other novel's romantic parts do

[collapse]

The medical part is almost non existing. It was only important at the beginning and at the end. In the middle it was politics and business. It was an interesting read because of the many characters, details and plots. <<less

Started off really well and has a lot of potential. There's only 3ch rn but MC is very capable and the rest of the introduced charas seem to be well written as well.

The translation quality is great.

A really good novel for those who like strong transmigrated heroines. She gives me Minglan vibes from the book/series The story of Minglan. The ML is somewhat like another favorite ML of mine, Tyrannical Wang's beloved wife, in his nature of hiding his true character and pampering his wife (which has not started yet; I am at the wedding).

Coming to the translation, the translator is doing a great job. I love that she keeps the relationship names in their Chinese format, as it helps to understand the relationship between two... more>> characters. Aunt can have different meanings in Chinese and when translators use the generic english term, much is lost in translation. So, keep up the good work.

TLDR, read the novel; you won't be at a loss. <<less
