At eighteen years old, Lin Qingyu was married as part of a Chong Xi into the Nan’an Hou Mansion, becoming the ill Lu Wancheng’s male wife.

On the eve of their wedding, Young Master Hou lay lazily on the bed and said, “Beauty, to be honest, I really don’t want to engage in domestic struggles. I just want to drift along, eat and wait to die. I want to be a Salted Fish.”

A year later, Young Master Hou became gravely ill. He took Lin Qingyu’s hand and sighed, “Wife, I’m going to die, but I think I can continue to transmigrate. In order for you to properly recognize me in the future, let us set a secret code.”

After the death of Young Master Hou, Lin Qingyu was prepared to stay a widow all his life.
Lin Qingyu would rather die than remarry.

Unexpectedly, after only 1/2 a year, …xoxo… actually came to propose marriage & said “If odd, change; if even, remain the same?”
LQ: “…I will marry you.”

After two years …

Lin Qingyu knew that although his husband was a bag of lazybones, no one was his equal

Wow, I usually have a harder time finishing novels revolving around political intrigue but I have to say... this novel got me. It managed to strike just the right balance between political plots, angst and lighthearted, heartwarming scenes which were all intertwined by authors unobtrusive yet undeniably charming humor. The emotional buildups for major events were deliciously executed and made the impact of some scenes thrice as painful and touching (ouch :’))), the knives were real sharp in this one). Still, the emotional payoff and stability of the couple made... more>> all the suffering worth it in the end... they are simply unbeatable together! I loved both of them so much and it was a treat to see them gradually grow together and mutually support each other.

Speaking of the protagonists, gotta give author credit for writing a main character like Lin Qingyu. It’s refreshing to see a protagonist not afraid of getting his hands dirty and willing to enter murky waters not only because the circumstances forced him into it. He’s certainly no saint but it’s very entertaining to see him go from a cold-blooded uncompromising beauty who holds onto the smallest grudges to a soft hearted and lovely partner hahah. On that account, cannot forget about Jiang Xing, the ever loving, ever supportive and oh so lazy husband. Once again a solid character that’s delightful in his wittiness and brilliance while being a... well, a salted fish lol. (An incredibly devoted one though)

I’m always happy when a novel manages to be interesting not by creating conflict and drama between the romantically involved characters but rather chooses to nurture a healthy relationship while not falling short on the plot side. (Which Married Thrice to Salted Fish undeniably delivered)

Both the couple’s dynamics and the story truly got me in the feels and I can’t but recommend this novel ✨ <<less

This novel is pretty wild and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Politics and family drama are well-written. The characters are more human (regardless if they're main or side) and there's no really a pure good and evil. It's basically a choice if you want to be good or evil (and ancient China, its rules, culture etc made it hard especially if you're in the Imperial palace.

Shou - Lin Qingyu. Cold, intelligent, scheming, immortal-like classical beauty (with a temper) who could literally score top rank in the examinations... more>> to be a medical officer was suddenly married off to a dying young master because his bazi (his date and hour of birth) matches with this dying young master according to the National Teacher and with an Imperial decree, he had no say in this. He loathed his fate until he eventually got along and fell in love with the gong, a salted fish transmigrator.

Gong - A dying young master with ties to the royal family through his mother, the Empress' late sister. That's what you assume at first. He's a transmigrator named Jiang Xing and a salted fish (an unmotivated barely 18 years old modern day teen who was lucky enough to survive living in ancient China because he was forced to learn a lot of things). He woke up in the body of this dying young master and found himself married to a beauty.

Three Transmigrations:

Spoiler

Our gong, Jiang Xing, transmigrated three times, assuming the first two was because he saved a pregnant woman from getting run over.

  • First: Lu Wancheng - A dying young master with ties to the royal family through his mother, the Empress' late sister. He won't last until 20 years old. Our gong, even though he's a salted fish, had made sure the shou would live through even after his current body died by making good use of his skills and connections (through his maternal family in the novel). He became close with the shou, a cold, psychopathic beauty, fell in love with said beauty and supported his 'villainous' schemes against Lu's stepmother and siblings. Before his current body's immune system gave up on him, the gong gave the shou a secret signal for him to know it's him (Jiang).
    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

Second: Gu Fuzhou - A warlord general who was dying of poison before coming back to life with a different personality. The warlord general who led many victories suddenly wanting to become a drifter prompting calls for his resignation but withdrawn when the former won battles (our gong is just lucky). The warlord general then insisted on his resignation, even going as far as sending many letters to the Emperor so he could reunite with his wife, the 'shou'. Our gong in 2nd body married the 'shou' less than a year after 1st body died (not acceptable in Chinese culture due to filial piety). With a healthier and more muscular body (and solid reputation), our gong once again supported his wife's evil scheming and even got involved himself. Our gong in his 2nd body managed to go out on a date, confessed, had his first kiss and wrote a letter of guarantee before going out for his final battle. His 2nd body died in battle.

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

Third (and final transmigration) : Xiao (surname 萧) Li. The dullard prince before imperial politics and scheming by the cold, psychopathic shou led to this dullard prince taking the throne with his mother, Empress Dowager (previously Empress, 1st original body's aunt). He's not an idiot or anything but because of his 'incomplete' soul (Chinese belief of the san hun qi po concept that if his 'hun', the spiritual side of the soul is missing, he will act like a dullard or something like that) that he ended up like a dullard. Surprisingly, after Gu Fuzhou's body died in battle, our gong ended up in the new Emperor Xiao Li's body and coincidently, body structure, face bears a huge resemblance to the gong's body back in his world. The gong then adapted to his new body, using his 'recovery' to pursue the shou for marriage. There were oppositions but can you question the Emperor without getting a death sentence back then? Of course not. Our gong once again used his power as Emperor to support the shou in his endeavours, poison, evil scheming and made his twice married and widowed wife as Empress.

Original Novel setting (the one read by the gong) :

Spoiler

The original novel our gong read before transmigrated into the novel's setting was a BL dog-blood love story centered around crown prince Xiao (a surname) Cheng and his childhood friend/shadow guard, Shen Huaishi. The gong's three bodies were minor characters while the shou was the villain. The shou was a cold, scheming beauty who wouldn't hesitate to use poison on his dying 'husband' and his in-laws to claim his rightful place in the examinations only for the crown prince to fell in love with the villain shou, nearly forcing himself on him prompting the villain shou to assassinate the crown prince but thanks to the shadow guard's intervention, the crown prince lives but the shou drank poison he hid on his person and killed himself. As for why the gong kept reading the novel, he wanted to see when will the crown prince be dead and due to China's censorship, the original novel's smut was very poetic (our gong was thinking hard and partly traumatised by it lmao).

[collapse]

The relationship of this novel centered around the shou and the transmigrator gong. Following their relationship is like going through an emotional rollercoaster, no joke. One moment you're laughing at their bantering, the next you'll be crying for the gong's 1st and 2nd death. It was well-written since
Spoiler

the shou was acting as the gong's doctor and husband at first before watching him wither away and dying in the snow (1st death). The shou had not gotten over his grief easily, it took the gong (in his 2nd body) to comfort him. The gong's 2nd death wasn't realised by the shou but the gong appear as his original self to the shou in his dream, they made love eventually but alas they have to part. Here, the shou somehow found out about the gong's 2nd death and 3rd resurrection through a letter containing a secret code and summon from the Imperial palace (details of 2nd death wasn't revealed to the shou) at the same time, the shou experienced intensifying sadness and happiness in one time and collapsed. The author covered the shou's experience in going through his grief, anxiety and maybe PTSD (post 1st death and pre 2nd death) as he waited for the gong's resurrection.

[collapse]

The main plot is both light and heavy but the extras are pretty light and humourous. The extras feature our shou transmigrate to modern day China (post 3rd marriage) and looking for his husband. Our gong somehow returned to his original world (without his memories from the transmigration). I was surprised on the realistic take on the extras since it took place in modern day China with the usage of wechat and all and maybe after the covid restrictions eased since there are mentions of wearing masks in public.

Overall, it was an excellent read and definitely not regretting reading this out of curiosity after so many people recommending it. <<less

Only bad thing so far is that I didn't know it's ongoing T^T I love it so far! The summary looked so simple but the story is so much more than it! This is a power couple story that's much more fleshed out. Each arc (I shall call it arc) where the ML transmigrates is pretty long, about 40 chapters, so currently just reached the 3rd one and I'm not sure how it will even go.

I love MC and ML, there's a warning from translator that MC is... more>> not the best character, and that's in terms of he's the type that will retaliate tooth for tooth (so never get on his bad book). And ML loves it hehe. They are definitely a strong couple and it's a very slow romance. It's also interesting to read in the perspective of someone else instead of the transmigrator. It's not a new concept but this book does it in a fresh way. Minor spoilers ahead:

Arc 1 (Xiao hou ye) :
Spoiler

So totally no romance here but they start out as friends and allies in this tricky situation. It's actually really cute. Also, ML is actually younger than MC! There's the start of a long collaboration (and we can see the downfall of a whole household) and towards the end, I was really sad to see xiao hou ye gone. I think both started to develop some feelings towards the end and my gosh, I really teared up at the end. This ending really gutted me. But plot spoilers wise, Xiao hou ye is the nephew of the empress and MC is forced to marry him by imperial order because the guo shi dictates that they match and it will help xiao hou ye (since he is like terminally ill). And it does follow the summary where he still dies a year later but it's actually half a year longer because MC (who is a doctor in training), helped prolong his life. And also, MC actually held a grudge at the beginning because this whole marriage ruined his plan to take this very important medical exam.

[collapse]

Arc 2 (general) :
Spoiler

TBH not my favourite arc because of the age gap. General is 12 years older than MC (though mentally ML is still 1 year younger). It was nice because this is the arc where their feelings became mutual and more scheming happened against the protagonists of the book (who weren't good) but I couldn't really get the age gap image off my mind. But otherwise, the confession scene was very nice. Again, a lot of people went down but coming towards the end of this arc (there were even scenes where they promised to be together till the very end of this life even though ML is physically older now), you just know the angst was coming. Oh and also, it's assumed at the beginning that the general "died" when ML transmigrated over to his body at the start of this arc (and that was at the war zone away from the capital).

[collapse]

Arc 3 (major spoilers) :
Spoiler

There was already hints in arc 2 on who ML will be, and that was this prince who was said to have "no soul". So ya, at least it wasn't like he took over an innocent character. And this prince looked nearly identical to his original body (HMM). A lot of things happened between arc 2 and 3 for him to become emperor and how they can get together when MC already kind of married twice is going to be a hurdle I foresee, so shall have to continue reading.

[collapse]

Minor cute plot point:
Spoiler

I like how ML influenced MC to talk in his modern speak. Also, there was a natural flow in the plot where MC discovers that ML is a transmigrator and that they are in a book.

[collapse]

Overall, I love MC and ML interactions, the way they scheme together. ML actually stays true to his character of a lazy salted fish unless he really has no other choice. There's cute moments, scheming, plot, and a healthy dose of angst. There are side characters (the important plot related people, the enemies), but tbh no real important allies.

A good read but perhaps should wait till completed to start T^T <<less

I cried at the end of ML's first life. I also cried at the end of his second life. It's a beautiful relationship between ML and MC. There is friendship, love and trust. I love how MC is not perfect and is actually quite evil, but because of his fear of losing ML, he tries to be better. Even still, ML loves MC for who he is and doesn't force him to be anything that he is not.

Spoiler

Lin Qingyu thought for a long time, but made up his mind, "In any case, I will do less bad things in the future."

ML: "Don't baby. Do whatever you want. If you want to change yourself when you fall in love with me, then I'm a s*umbag again."

[collapse]

I love how ML is never jealous. He knows that MC is beautiful and even when people stare at MC, he encourages them to stare more.

Spoiler

This is their attitude when it comes to being jealous:

MC: If he cheats on me then he is blind.

ML: Isn't he pretty? Look, look as much as you want. People love to look at a beauty. But look is all they can do. Only I can touch.

ML said that if they are going to get into fights every time someone stare at MC then they will only fight all day long. Better just to let people look at him.

[collapse]

I also love that even though ML rather be lazy and do nothing, for MC's sake, he's willing to take his job seriously.

I also love their children (not real children).

If you're looking for strong leads in a beautiful nontoxic relationship then definitely read this novel. It's beautifully written. <<less

This review contains summary of the plot for those who thinks the novel summary wasn't enough to catch their attention.

This novel is not about the love story between a 「pitifuly trapped in forced marriage beautiful shou doctor」 with a 「lazy but smart and scheming 」transmigrator gong. This novel is actually about two scheming lovebirds getting together and kills everyone who dares to stand in their way to a happy marriage.

Lin Qingyu (MC)

Spoiler

Is actually the main villain in the story. He was the typical villain in novels; Lin Qingyu is ruthless, he never forgives nor forget, he carried out his plans without mercy. If you so as glances at him wrongly, you're on the hit list.

But everything is forgiven because he is the main character and we actually got to know the reasons and processes of everything.

Spoiler

The Emperor and his son, the Crown Prince, who lusted after him. The Madame Ling and children who bullies the MC and ML. Eunuch Rong who tried to kill MC and ML because they threatened his hold over the throne.

[collapse]

Although he was also too cruel to some innocent characters just because he found them too s*upid or cheap.

Spoiler

He lied to and played protagonist shou on his palm to dispose the Emperor and Crown Prince. He made the fourth prince danced on his palm as puppet Emperor and then dispose him when Eunuch Rong tried to defend the fourth prince's throne.

[collapse]

Yet, as the main character Shou, he is very cute.

If this story was from Crown Prince's pov, Lin Qingyu would be the crazy beauty who killed his husbands with his bad luck and also a crazy doctor who pursued dark magic 「Gu worms」.

[collapse]

ML

Spoiler

ML Gong was a typical transmigrating villain who loves to mess with the plot. His mind and action are scarier and more ruthless than the MC. He is a scheming person who moves people around him into his chess play while he sit on the top. For his lovely wife, there is nothing he wouldn't do.

Spoiler

He first poisoned himself to live just one day more and more because he cannot leave the MC yet. Later, he also poisoned himself just so he could go back to his wife, regardless of the war ongoing. He plotted against protagonist shou and protagonist gong to get rid of the Emperor and Crown Prince. He made Xiao Jie (fourth prince) watch his most important person bleed out and died with his own eyes just because Eunuch Rong made MC sad.

[collapse]

But. As the male lead main character, ML is actually quiet humble. He doesn't think he is the main character of the world just because be transmigrates into it. He only wants to protect the one person he loves and cares the most, his lovely Shou male-wife. His scheming mind wasn't born as a mean to bully others. He learns how to scheme because his modern-world mother apparently is very obsessed with setting his son on the top, to follow her path in becoming the best of everything. But ML is a lazy person who only wants to be a salted fish everyday, so he learns how to scheme his own time and study to get the top result and also the lazy life he wants.

He also loves the MC in the most adorable way.

His name itself is a spoiler.

Spoiler

(ML) Jiang Xing was actually the sixth prince, Xiao Li, who was said to lost his soul and become foolish. Xiao Li lost his soul when he was young, his soul transmigrated to the modern world and lived as modern man Jiang Xing. Although a fragment of his soul was left in Xiao Li's body thus preserved the sixth prince's live but not mind.

When Jiang Xing first died because he saved two lives, he received God's blessing and two additional lives before his time is up. He was then transmigrated to the world where he originally came from, Dayu.

The first live was the sickly Lu Wancheng and the second was General Gu. After he used his two chances and died as General Gu, Jiang Xing naturally returned to his original body, Xiao Li's body, because his soul fragment was alive in the prince's body. His determination to stay with Lin Qingyu and their compatibility were also amongst of the factors.

[collapse]
[collapse]

This novel is refreshing because although the story seemed to be about two lovebirds trying to uphold just into the corrupted world and protect their love through all storms and thinder, it's actually not like that at all. The MC is a person who keeps grudges and the ML agrees with the MC because the MC is the most brilliant when he is doing bad things.

The way the author detailed about Lin Qinghu's reactions to his husbands death was very touching and brilliant. There was no hyperbole of how his world bleaken or the sky shattered, it was actually very realistic and sad. Their love was build upon people's suffering, yet it was written in the most romantic way and made you unable to feel bad about their love. <<less

Wonderful story about a truly moving love story between two people.

In a little bit of a departure from the usual genre, the ML (gong) is the transmigrator whereas the MC (shou) is originally a cannon fodder from the world. But actually I’d say that they are interchangeable as MC and ML, since the “ML’s” perspective is often shown too. Also the “MC” has a slightly villainous/obsessive personality and is the more black-bellied of the two, which is also a departure from the genre. The ML is the more relaxed/chill one,... more>> ie the nominal “salted fish” but he’s actually very intelligent and is mostly only motivated to do things out of a desire to be with the MC.

I really like this less cliched approach to their relationship and it really works. You can truly feel their love for each other and why they’re perfect together.

The story is exciting and doesn’t drag. Basically covers the ML’s three lives and coming back each time to reunite and help the MC. <<less

The story is very well done. The dynamic between the two is very sweet and supportive. It’s nice to see their relationship grow stronger over time and the MC value the ML more and more. The description basically outlines the plot, but the author fleshes it out very well with their writing. So although there aren’t many plot twists, it’s still a great read.

Excellent, this book deserves 5 stars if only because of the romance. Starting out as complete strangers (even mildly hostile) and blossoming into soul mates who share everything, these 2 deserve the world (and got it!).

Married thrice to salted fish may seem to lay everything bare in the description, but the real gold is in all the details. It has all the feelings of riding a rollercoaster, even if you already know how things are going to be. Because while we know, they don't.

Pretty much over hyped.

The idea itself seemed nice but it beam annoying pretty fast. The idea is, that ML is a transmigrator who entered the body of a dying person which just got force married to another man. They become close, ML dies, transmigrates to another body and MC becomes his wife again.

To be honest, the knowledge that the body is going to die, makes you wish that the story escalates and the person should die faster. The relationship between MC and ML is not interesting enough... more>> for the length of this story and it becomes boring.

The writer is really obvious about which body will be the next for ML. You will basically now early on where ML will land in the end, that takes away lots of entertainment. Here the spoiler at which chapter ML dies:

Spoiler
  1. Lu Wancheng dies at chapter 38/39
  2. Gu Fuzhou dies at chapter 99

Them death of ML is the most emotional part of this novel and everything else is pretty much mediocre.

To summarize it... I'm not going to read this novel again and it didn't exactly entertain me. You can read it if you are bored but there are a lot better out there. <<less

So many 5 stars, they must be for the translator. I found the underlined notes really convenient and helpful. No grammar errors as well, smooth reading guaranteed.

As for the book itself, I don't see where the hype is coming from. It's a unique concept, by the look of things ML had a life even before the first body of his he possesses. However MC is a little too mean. I never liked plots where a couple hates each other even without a reason. Forced marriage? It'd be a valid reason... more>> if it was the ML who forced MC into said marriage. Or if ML forced MC to consumate it. But he didn't, so the MC just has a stepmom face. How bad <<less

ML died 3 times, and married MC 3 times, just like the title. In the 1st life, he died when helping a pregnant women, and then he wake up, and meet MC. That's the beginning of their love life

I really like how author sometimes let us take a look at ML pov. And I really love ML pov

MC is a cold person. He doesn't care about anything other than being a doctor, and study medicine. But he meet ML, and because ML died, he will slowly change. He will become a paranoid spouse, but it's understandable. Being the one that has to watch your husband leave like that, it will surely turn you into a paranoid person. I cried when ML first leave MC 😭😭

1st life : become best friend and confidant

2nd life : become lovers

3rd life : married couple

Each life is around 40 chapters

The ending is quite satisfactory

I really recommend it 💕 <<less

Exceptionally well written. Strong characters with distinct, fully formed personalities; a well conceived world; and finally, the most important attribute: a compelling story. This one made me tear up a few times--a pretty rare event for someone who reads a lot. Slow burn but worth it.

It started out good and I like the plot a lot but I find myself questioning MC behavior and actions later on.

MC is not just a cold deceitful beauty as ML has described him. He's basically a psychopath at this point. The lack of empathy, the killing, the betrayal, and the author whitewash these as him protecting himself.

"Then promise me, even if I'm bald, fat, and without any abdominal muscles, you won't dislike me okay?"—c62

I like witty couples. Couples who can throw a shameless, sexual-laced joke around & not feel a bit embarrassed. Couples who can give each other a quick glance & instantly understand the other's thoughts. Couples who make each other burn for each other. Couples like Lin Qingyu & Jiang Xing.

The synopsis is straightforward; you shouldn't be surprised at what you get. It's transmigration, ML is going to transmigrate a total of 3x, &... more>> there seems to be a HE. I'm a sucker for transmigration stories, but above all—I'm a sucker for doting love interests. I want a male lead who will literally hand over the world to his loved one. Didn't take me long to hurry & read this.

It's a gem. It's a wonder why no other novel has taken quite a twist to the typical transmigration setup. Maybe they did & I haven't had the opportunity to read them yet. This is unique in the way that our MC isn't the one transmigrating—ML is. Additionally, we're not world hopping, but consistently staying in one world. It's amazing, but also more bittersweet as MC is faced with having his man die more than once. A mere 39 chapters has me sobbing already.

I love our couple's main personalities. They were literally made for each other. If MC is poison, then ML is the one addicted to it. They match each other well, learning to enjoy each other's bad habits & personality quirks. MC is a petty vixen, whereas ML is your lazy smartass. In sum, they're an entertaining pair, sure to make you grin with their bickering & sly remarks. They kind of remind me of the main CP in FoD... especially the whole wife doting & scheming. Some may be turned off by MC's overbearingly apathetic & "evil" persona, but I could care less. It makes the contrast even better when he's an emotional wreck in front of ML. I'm usually on my knees when an ice-cold beauty turns warm. Story is fluid; there may be some gaps in the plot, but I dig it overall.

Definitely a novel meant to be read more than once. It's cute, bound to make you cry & laugh. Also makes me feel incredibly single & sad... sigh. <<less

I really like the MC and ML's relationship. They start out as strangers bound by marriage, then they slowly become friends and fall in love as they get to know each other. The first life was definitely the saddest - it made me cry the most. There's also no non-con or drugs, which is a plus for me.

The MTL is pretty easy to understand. The main story is finished, but the extras are still ongoing.

I LOOOOOOOOOVED IT SOOO MUCHH

I loved everything, including the extras <3

Written, the rhythm is, the MC the ML if so complete and wonderful.

... more>> ML has nothing of the typical and cliché ML ''Cold, indifferent, possessive and s*upid'', he is so spontaneous, natural, cute, intelligent, affectionate and super salty lol

The MC is so different from other ''cold, cruel and beautiful'' MCs I've read, he has his own way that captivates you, even when he talks about poisoning to death lol he manages to be cute in every way possible even though it doesn't look cute at all, it's a way to explain: just read it!

This was for sure one of the best couples I've ever read, with one of the best characteristics that can be written. AAAHH it flows so naturally without being forced into anything the feelings are real and descriptive OMG SO PERFECT

GRADE 10000/10000 <3 <<less

A heartwarming and well-written story. This is a tale of two scheming and ruthless men, of how they fought against their tough circumstances and came to be together. I enjoyed myself throughout the story, witnessing how the MC and ML wreaked havoc everywhere with their schemes.

The MC is quite petty and vengeful against those who have wronged him and even though he has a reputation of being aloof, you can see how much he comes to love the ML. The character development here is just plain amazing and the pain... more>> he experiences in the novel was so visceral I legitimately felt so bad for him.

On the other hand, the ML has an interesting backstory of being a transmigrator, as seen in the summary. He often supports the MC's schemes and even puts in lots of effort to push the MC's plans along. Though most of the time he just wants to be a salted fish, so he just does the bare minimum to get by (damn, this is so relatable haha).

Spoiler

I definitely sniffled at the both times the ML died, the writer wove it so beautifully and fully displayed the raw emotions the MC and ML had during those two times. They're at chapter 38 and 99. They were written so beautifully that I specifically went back to reread those two scenes, I'm in awe of the writer.

Even though I didn't cry, the story successfully pulled at my heartstrings. A satisfying read, will recommend! <<less

Quite good. Made me cry several times.

I just don't like

how the MC retaliated disproportionately to the ppl who "provoked" him. Or maybe such retaliation was justified but I just don't like that unapologetic evil part of him and the ML's condonation of it.

He brought disaster to the ppl who's not on his side and was unnecessarily cruel for the slightest provocation. Lyk we get it, you're a heavenly beauty but not everyone who covets you deserves to die, you know. He also acts as if he has no family to worry about. There are crimes that not only calls for his own death but for his whole family but he has no hesitation to do it. Tho ofc his plans always worked bec he's a genius and has a halo! But the lack of concern to do "bad things" when they're not yet at the point where he has to do such things, it's a bit of a turn off for me.

My fave character is
Spoiler

Xi Rong, the eunuch. He's so much lyk the MC in terms of ambitiousness, the scheming. When he delivered that last speech while being waterboarded about how the evil things he did will come back to him as a retribution, he kinda gagged our MC. But at the same time, why was the MC upset abt it when everything XR said was correct. When he was planning those things he had no hesitation but when someone laid down that those might cause bad karma, he's suddenly upset??? Gurll if ur evil, have the guts to admit it and not be upset when ppl mention it.

The only difference between MC And XR is that XR has no halo so during their (XR and the MC) confrontation, he inevitability lost, was tortured, and forced to kill himself in a garden he and his half brother is fond of. So for the readers who hated XR but loooved MC, they need to reflect on it.
So between these 2 evil characters, I like XR more because he knew what he was doing and the only reason he's in that situation is bec he got outwitted. No hypocrisy and he accepted its consequences. That tragic ending and his concern for XL also gave a delicious conclusion to his character. I loved it so much that I decided to end things there.

Despite my ramblings, it's undeniably a good novel that kept me entertained for days. <<less

A very nice story. I love it! Though I've read all the chapters of the main story, I hope that there will be extras!

The plot of the story is simple, and it focuses on the development of the leads' relationship and court intrigue.

MC is a cold beauty and most importantly, he will have his revenge without failure. ML is a laid back salted fish. Lol. But as the ending says ... more>>

he's willing to be a salted fish that is not so idle for his lover.

They love each other very much, and I love their interaction. A power couple indeed.

The romance also comes off naturally, same goes with the exposure of the past life of our ML, and MC's knowledge of ML being a transmigrator. I've cried a few times reading this; the separation always hurts.

Sooo- read this! This book is awesome ヽ (`д´*) ノ <<less

I was looking for something that would stir my soul. Married Thrice to a Salted Fish delivered and how! Not only was my soul stirred, but it was also salted and stir-fried.

I haven’t read the extras yet but the main plot is now complete and I can safely go ahead and rate this book 5 stars.

This book has catapulted into my top five Danmei books of all time. And my top three romance novels of all time.

This is a master class on characterisation with gold-tier dialogues and humour that borrows... more>> from ancient China and modern times to create a delicious potpourri of lip-smacking goodness. I am not someone who gets invested in side characters but, in this story, I was. I found myself getting attached to supporting characters and in some places even rooting for the antagonist. I think a story is brilliantly written when the antagonist is realistic. When you loathe them but also understand why they’re the way they are.

There are multiple antagonists in this story but by the time revenge gets served to them, I somewhat felt sympathetic. That’s how nicely fleshed out they are.

I loved the romance. The ML is one of the best I’ve come across in Danmei. He is very similar to Hua Cheng (TGCF) and Yan Xiaohan (Golden Stage). The ML is not a s*um gong. He is respectful, patient, smart, funny and endearing. I wanted to squeeze his face. And I’ve never felt that way before for an ML. He’s such a darling, honestly.

The MC is not your typical Mary Sue. He’s not self-sacrificing and pitiful. He is smart, conniving and not someone to mess with. Sometimes he can be scary. And I liked that about him. The MC is a nice character that is pushed into situations that require him to protect himself. He is cornered repeatedly and therefore decides to plot his way out. It’s an interesting characterisation to adopt for an MC and I enjoyed every bit of being inside Lin Qingyu’s mind.

I also loved Shen Huashi and the multiple versions of the ML. My personal favourite was General Gu.

Great translation by Chrysanthemum Garden and what else can I say? It’ll take a while to get over this delightful book. <<less
