In 1991, Zhao Xiangwan was admitted to Hunan Public Security University. One late night, a knock on the door pulled her into a tragic family drama.

Eleven-year-old Meimei, an adopted girl, had lost her sister. The mother, overwhelmed with grief, cried out: “Tell me! Where did you put the baby?”

Meimei wept and replied: “I didn’t mean to! I don’t remember!” Others tried to comfort the mother: “She’s still a child. Don’t push her too hard.”

But Zhao Xiangwan remained calm and firm: “She’s lying.” Zhao helped locate the missing child, earning admiration: “You can tell when someone’s lying just from their expressions? That’s amazing!”

However, Zhao’s true ability wasn’t reading micro-expressions—it was reading minds. Hiding her gift under the guise of behavioral theory, she solved major criminal cases:

— A headless female corpse.

— A campus poisoning.

— A hidden body in a suitcase.

Her success brought her praise from all sides:

— A Major Crimes Unit officer: “She solved two major cases in one day!”

— Her captain: “No criminal can escape her eyes.”

— A talented artist: “I create portraits for her investigations.”

— A wealthy tycoon: “She saved my life.”

— The Ji Group, a global corporation: “She’s our leader.”

Zhao Xiangwan became known as China’s top criminal investigator, a mind-reading detective, and a solver of impossible mysteries.

Yet, even with her fame, Zhao remained humble, her words resolute:

“With mind-reading, no criminal can hide. I will ensure justice for the innocent.”

I like it, the story is not complicated,

usually in the crime/law story there's always a criminal who escape law because their connection with the person in high position and they will make things difficult for MC, but in this story... How do I explain it... Um the good people will get justice and bad people will be punished, literally all criminals in this story all shot or go to jail.

For the MC, I like her, she's smart, even though she has mind reading ability if she doesn't smart enough... more>> to know how to utilize it and learning other skill such as psychology and micro expression to maximize the use of mind reading ability, and only depends on that ability alone, well...

As for the male lead, I like him too, I just wish I see more of his perspective, the way he and MC communicated in their first meet it's so interesting.

About romance... Actually I didn't quite like romance and I'm picky reader too so, but this one is fine. Is rare for me but I wish there a little more sweet time between MC and ml. <<less

cases being solved, her reading their mind -- very fun and satisfying process to see her break down and connect the truth through ppl's thoughts

also, she isnt s*upid. she doesnt just, realize someone is the mu*derer and then announce it (or worse, investigate on her own and get hurt :/), nor does she s*upidly expect everyone to believe her (cough cough a lot of other mindreading novels.... dont pmo) -- she actually creates a reasonable lie for her ability, and tricks the criminals into confessing.

why not five stars?

Spoiler

- you can see that all of the criminals get caught in the end, and are fully evil. it's all black and white, all either 'fully good' or 'fully bad'. there's never some kind of moral dilemma, where FL feels conflicted on whether a crime was 'justified' or even some kind of urge to hide the truth because the criminal was a victim (eg: mu*der of an abusive parent, mu*der of a rapist by the victim, etc). ofc the crime shouldnt be hidden in the end, but it was just disappointing to never see anything realistic or perturbing like that. or even some kind of bad ending, where the victim couldnt be saved.

Spoiler

- I stopped reading once romance became more prominent. ML is cute and I have no complains about him, but I just dont like MC's perspective on romantic love. cuz wdym you dont want the secondML cuz he's 'already used'?? I dont want her to end up with the secondML either, but that reason is just... icky?? I get not wanting to be with your tr*sh sister's ex-fiancé, but not wanting someone at all cuz they're 'no longer pure' (not even the s*xual kind, just a 'someone's already had u before so u can never completely be mine' kinda way) ??? its just mental (and kind of sad, really reflects on how much her past actually affects her)

also, wanting ML cuz hes 'never seen the world's cruelty' and has a pure mind, and has her as his main priority (over his loving father, etc) in EVERYTHING??? like, so he can only focus on you, which is why you like him, but its okay for you to do other things?... ugh, no. I get having some standards (abeit weird) for your partner, but if you yourself cant fulfill them in return...........

Spoiler

- ML's 'autism' being 'treated'....?????? ughhhh I cant, what do you mean 'treated'??? what do you mean, he's turning 'normal' cuz now he can communicate cuz of FL??? I find it disturbing how he was only able to communicate after he met FL tbh, really icky move from the writer (but then again, realistic ig? since it IS in the 90s, with less research on autism). poor guy - I also feel really bad for his father, who's just trying his hardest. but I don't really care for this point as much as the other two (mainly because while its rare for autistic nonverbal-since-childhood adults to develop speech, it's not impossible. +while some of the words are iffy to me personally, its not something that I can't personally overlook. but, other readers might find this insensitive, so just a PS.)

Gave this a go since I was taking a break from hoarding/space and historical genre, but what a surprise! This was nicely written. Its like detective conan but with a twist (aka mind reading) and more geared to mature audience than d. Conan. I like the fact that the MC mind reading abilities is not totally omnipotent and she herself reflected on it at some point. I cried on some cases they handled kinda heartbreaking when u read the pov of those people involved. This novel is about solving cases... more>> and exploring human psychology at the same time. There is also a bit of romance which added just enough sweetness to this novel. At first I thought MC is not gonna have an ML because of her mind reading ability but because of the specialness of ml, they just fit really well together as a pair. <<less
