The master once said that Cui Xiaoxiao, who has the “Ten Injuries” destiny, was actually very lucky. If she had been born two hundred years earlier, with her extremely yin destiny, she would have become the nemesis of the Demon Sect Lord Wei Jie. If that were the case, the novice Xiaoxiao would have been hunted to the ends of the earth, her bones scattered and ashes dispersed…

Xiaoxiao secretly exclaimed in relief: Wei Jie was cold and cruel by nature. Fortunately, two hundred years ago, he was killed by his vengeful disciple Qin Lingxiao. This demon is gone from the world! Only his evil reputation remains stinking for eternity.

Later, Cui Xiaoxiao accidentally time-traveled back two hundred years and took on a handsome and unrestrained young man as her disciple.

Cui Xiaoxiao was very gratified, secretly praying to her master’s spirit: Our Lingshan Talisman Sect has finally branched out and spread! I will definitely cultivate my disciple into a talent!

After praying, she turned to her tall and mighty disciple, smiling and asking, “Disciple, I forgot to ask earlier, what is your surname?”

The disciple looked at his master’s bright eyes and slowly said, “My surname is Wei, Wei Jie…”

Short introduction: The wrong time, the right person…

Female lead: Accidentally took the Demon Lord ancestor as a disciple, leading him down the path of demonic cultivation in her bitter life.

Male lead: Accidentally took on an adorable master, living a blessed life receiving her loving smiles every day.

Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when I started this novel, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it to hook me all the way to the end like this. I swear, this novel just felt so good to read.

It begins like your usual setup — typical plot, standard worldbuilding, and I fully braced myself for another round of Mary Sues and Jack Sues rising up from rock bottom to fight some cardboard-cutout evil s*umbags. Thought I'd probably drop it midway. But then... the plot started getting muddled (in a good... more>> way), and suddenly I found myself thinking, “Wait, what’s actually going on?” And from that point on, I just had to keep reading.

The build-up is smooth and gradual — nothing feels rushed — and when things finally start falling into place, it's like, “Oh damn, I kind of saw this coming, but also?? Definitely did not see that coming.” Loved that.

I don’t want to spoil anything, because this one is 100% worth going into blind. The twists! The way all the seemingly random connections come together to set the stage for the finale. is just so satisfying. The ending... okay, it was a little lackluster. It was a happy ending, sure, and I did like the resolution, but it felt a bit incomplete. Why? Because I needed some serious face-slapping satisfaction and it just wasn’t there. It was well-deserved, and it got brushed aside like, “Oh you can imagine it yourself :) ” excuse me?? No, I wanted that catharsis served hot lol.

Also the author adding some vague info at the end about the parentage of someone certain like, absolutely unnecessary ??? especially if you're not adding more to it?? what do you want us to do?? write some fanfic on ao3 about your crumbs???? smh lowkey annoyed.

Also, can we talk about

That self-righteous little rat. I was ready to jump into the novel and slap him into another dimension. Absolutely insufferable. And then — surprise! — someone even more annoying shows up and I suddenly forgot to keep hating him with full intensity. Sigh.

I do wish more characters were fleshed out.
Spoiler

Outside of the main four characters and the three villains (two of whom are just different brands of garbage, yes I included QL), everyone else is kind of just... there. Wait, I can't even remember most of the others who showed up and I just finished this. trust me I defs liked the plot and all, some of it was... pretty forgettable tho lol

[collapse]
The power couple is very cute though — strong chemistry, gradual power climb (with cheat codes, of course), and I enjoyed their journey. The secondary couple? Also adorable.

If only the ending was more fleshed out, this would’ve been close to perfect.

Still, a solid and very interesting read. And best of all — it’s fully translated with high-quality translations! A blessing, truly. Happy Reading ~ <<less

4.5 not rounded up for a reason. If I could summarize this novel and many others, the plot is basically driven by "unreasonable men". I think if you're someone who loves the story of gods but in the perspective of Chinese mythology I guess, you'll enjoy this. Ultimately, this is a very long but detailed and unique in its own way romance novel. This is primarily a romance novel you have to understand that. A good one. One that feels like a full story. Like a tale of time.

The reason... more>> why I didn't round it up is because a lot of the other woman characters besides the main character are like examples of woman stereotypes That exist in Chinese novels. However, there's a part of me that does want to still round it up because it's never done in a 2d way. And it always follows the character so the character feels real irregardless. I might round this up one day. Because honestly and they still have a real sense of character despite The stereotype they're based on. And the story is so Grand that the scale that they're put on makes them feel more full as a character.

I have to say I'm someone who really can see a plot and it's twists and turns within a couple pages. And I've read a lot of books. So I pride myself to some degree on being able to tell what's going to happen. But obviously I want to find a book that can catch me off guard and give me a new twist. I have to say even though the foreshadowing was set up so well and it's only because there was foreshadowing that I attribute this to being a good twist because without foreshadowing it's just bad storytelling. But this book had proper foreshadowing and everything for the entire thing except for a couple moments near the end but even that I understood why. I will explain later. But for now I just want to say That that twist in the middle of the book, that really wow that was so took me off guard. I was so shocked. I mean in a good way. I was like that makes so much sense. And I love that feeling. Not knowing that it was going to happen but once you know it all the pieces pulled together. That's great storytelling. That's good writing. It has to have foreshadowing to do that but it also has to be so intricate that you don't figure it out before.

So in that way this book is a masterpiece. Genuinely a romantic masterpiece. It's actually a combination of so many different types of stories and books but done in a very elegant way except for near the end. I will talk about it right now:

Spoiler

I think a lot of information was told to us near the end like closely then I would say like from chapter 90 and beyond or even 80 I can't remember. Like we learned about the gods and then we learned about the specific Mastermind God but even then like even though there wasn't too much foreshadowing prior to that about him. It actually made sense. It was just a proper time. And it did make sense to some degree but it was very very slight foreshadowing because you did question sometimes like why would the old emperor do this right. Because he was promised immortality by another God. Exactly so then obviously the next question is why does the God want to take 200 years off of the imperial family and their dynasty... And although that answer to the question wasn't fully foreshadowed the fact that that question could exist in your mind prior to these chapters is a sense of foreshadowing although the knowledge that we gain within these last couple chapters does feel rushed because it wasn't told to us prior in detail. But it was important and I noticed that they couldn't mention you know like they were fighting over a girl like this girl was in the underworld and refused to reincarnate. Like if they told that from the beginning then we would have been like oh yeah the main character is that girl. And we'd also would know that like okay so it's like the Helen of Troy these two guys are fighting over a girl like we got it we understand. So I understand why they left some information until the very end because it would be just too easy to figure it out otherwise. So even though it did feel like the information was kind of a lot near the end it still was well bound because there was still times where I felt the guy was still learning new information and still making new connections from the informations without being told. Like connections to the past chapters. Or connections to the possibility of what could happen in the future or what could happen in the next couple of chapters. And seeing if that really unfolds or not. I think one of the most surprising things that happened that despite being told everything pretty much the whole lore and everything I think the most surprising thing is how does she get back to 200 years (Even though we knew she was going to probably go back to 200 years ago from the beginning really and that she's not going to stay in the past). So how does she get back. And in what way. And what does that future look like. Like that those were still questions that we were wondering up until like the last three chapters. And that's good writing. The fact that honestly the way she came back was pretty like unique to me. I think if you look at the nuances it of it it's quite interesting. I felt first that she just hop back to her parallel universe that was my initial thought which would have been so f*cking interesting. Because that's not something we expected for her to go back to the same past that she came from. Which meant that she just jumped back to her parallel universe. But that wasn't the case LOL so I kind of got like bait and switched but in that way that was also refreshing because you know I got like mind twisted in the wrong way LOL and so when they explained it I was like oh it's more simple than that okay. So that was refreshing in its own way.

I think the gods are unreasonable and it kind of fits I think. But at the same time it does feel very like stereotypes like what's the difference between this

The first half of the story felt slow and dragging but the second half was riveting (considering I had to mtl it!) The story is so complex and has many layers that draws you in the more you read. Beautiful plot line with no loose ends. The love story here is very satisfying. Kudos to the author! I also liked her other work as well (Possession of my beloved). Thank you also to the translator who is doing a great job considering that every chapter is so long. ❤️

The best part of this novel is the characterization of the people in the story. They have their own motivations, habits, thinking that make them very human to me. The author made them like real people even if this is in a xiaxia/fanstasy world.

Story also has a good mix of romance, friendship, comedy, and intrigue. I felt bad for the FL for everything she went through and then ... more>>

the ML lost his feelings for her in a while

. I feel like he did not chase her to the crematorium enough but oh well.

I love the twists and turns of the story. It distracted from working for a few days lol. The ending of the story was great. It made me tear and say finally. I'm just so happy for them. But yes would read again. It's hard to find really really really good novels out there (or maybe I'm just unlucky) but I'm so glad I saw this. <<less

Enjoyable rather convoluted time travel xianxia with misbehaving gods and intertwined fates. Goodness and kindness inherently triumphant in the end. FL is plucky with some cute moments and dialogues. ML is passionate enough. Maybe worth rereading to fully understand and put into order events and timeline of plot.

This one has only two flaws: a slow beginning and a kind of a rushed ending.

I wanna say it's rushed but even in its rush, it did cover the most important things for all the core characters.

Happy ending. Totally happy and absolutely deserved

[collapse]

Once you endure the slow rather uninteresting beginning, then you are in for a trip.

There's so many awesome twists, it had me at the edge of my seat a lot of times.

The lead couple, their love story, it's hard earned and precious.

A doting devilish ML and a cunning courageous MC.

I loved her and her growth.

Spoiler

At her core, she's kindhearted, but she was raised in a harsh environment where it was drilled into her to avoid any empathy, to always be self-perseving above all but her nature itself is so warm... it's funny how she constantly battles against her kind instincts at first.

Completely in denial, at some point I don't think she even believed it herself, she was just saying stuff to muddle through her denial, so she felt so human, seeing her stubbornly trying to keep her defenses up, absolutely afraid but, also, so so brave.

[collapse]

A lot of characters were so interesting. I def reccomend.

Spoiler

I do wish the villian could have suffered way more, he did suffer though, make no mistake, he ain't a match for our leads together but... I hated him so much, I wanted like eternal condemnation

[collapse]

Thanks for the translator for giving us this story, I'm so glad I could read it with this kind of translation quality. Thank you, thank you. <<less

4 Stars.🌟

Pros: storyline was straightforward and all the loose ends were tied beautifully by the end. I love how the romance was integrated into the storyline while keeping the plot valid.

cons: I wish there was some more detail in some scenes. And I wish that some characters' backgrounds were a little more detailed. It would have helped me sympathise with them and root for them more.

overall a good read if you're a fan of xianxia. But because of lack of a few details, if you're a beginner you may... more>> find it difficult to understand the ascension and realms. <<less

I liked this story. Loved the female lead, I thought sh was a good mix between soft and hard, strong and weak. And I like the male lead, he want the "I hate everyone but the FL" type. He had other people he cared about, which made him more real and interesting.

Such a fun and exciting read, the xianxia adventures are easy to understand, kudos to the translator for that, a couple you want to root for, secondary characters who don't fall flat. Our heroine is not naive and foolish but charming, brave and smart. The male lead is likeable as well. I have read two novels by this author now and both were enjoyable reads so I will keep an eye out for her stuff being translated.
