In the last life, Chu Yu escaped a marriage granted by an imperial edict for the sake of Gu Chu Sheng, and traveled thousands of miles, but still ended up dying of illness in a foreign country. This one is awesome! If you read the author's previous works like grand princess and Zhuo Yu (carven jade) you will love this one.

The heroine is a reborn in this one and already lived her life till her bitter end. She married the second ML, she ran away from her fiance in her 1st life.

After dead and being reborn she decided too married the man she is supposed to married in the 1st live. BUT THEN LONG STORY.....

The OG title for this novel is "The eldest wife is my wife".

Our heroine, is Chu Yu and our hero is Wei Yun and both of them were come from military family. I really love all the supporting characters, some of them have amazing stories on their own. Chu Yu is sooo jaded, I felt pity for our Xiao Qi, but when they decided to try their relationship is just pure AWESOMENESS. I really love Chu Yu. Wei Yun confension is just so heartbreaking. As usual MSB loves to torture all of her male characters (that's why I love to read this).

Beautifully written. As expected from the author. Stories written requires great mind. Good plot, I did read raw via google translate and It was still really really good. Their character developments are acceptable and reading it feels like you are watching movie. ML is loyal, MC is strong and dedicated and knows what she wants.

I dropped this novel exactly a while ago. I want to put up my feelings about it, and this might unable to help you for anything. I didn't even read the half of the novel.

I'm here, to state my grivenance.

The author killed my fave character like literally right after they intruduce him😭 my guy deserved better.

I knew from the start how this WY guy being intruduce he going to be the male lead. Naration about him are there in actually every chapter even when he "physically" not there. And he... more>> had the tragedy life every male lead has. But, sigh.... My WJ could have made a cute husband. He was in love with MC, their interections are cute and everything. Maybe he seems somewhat dence but actually he's just a softy.

Plot wise, it's actually really interesting. MC isn't the only one who reborn. She is our typically kinda reborn OP MC. And actually I want to see further how in this life fate will face slap the ex-husband. But I can't continue reading it, because WJ died😔.

This is not a good review, right?

Still in the early chapters but what I can say for now is wow! And I don't say that lightly. Rebirth stories are a rage at the moment and to be honest there are more crappy ones than good.

At first it reads as a typical rebirth story with a s*upid young miss who fell for the wrong guy ruining her future at the instigation of her White lotus sister. At first! But as you go along you get so immersed in the story!

What I appreciate so much is that she... more>> never really blamed anyone but herself for her own BE. She's not obsessed with revenge and just moves on to start her new life without being too focused on s*um ex and green tea sister. So when she says she's over him, there is no doubt! She's totally indifferent.

The MC is mature and as the plot progresses you forget she's 15 with how she carries herself. She doesn't allow herself to be bogged down by past misfortune and she's boss without turning into a 1D Mary Sue, I really need to say that twice! The writing just keeps you logged on to the point where I cried when the ML came home with the caskets.

The only bad thing is that the translation is not so good. But everything else is a 5 stars. <<less

Voting on this early to raise its ratings. I like our protagonist, who's been through hell and back. In her original life, she made some poor choices and was also played by someone she held dear. Her husband (in that original life) didn't appreciate what he had until he lost it. Now, she's back to an important point- just before her royally issued wedding- and she's making different choices. One wrinkle in this story is that her previous husband is also back and thinks it's his chance to do things... more>> differently as well. Hmmm. Looking forward to where this will go! <<less

Novel not recommended to read.

The reborn MC acts instantly majorly OOC but no one cares or even notices. The reborn s*um man is deeply magically infatuated with MC after MC dies because nonsense writing. Mc's s*um sister is a cardboard trope. Since entering her new married family, MC astoundingly is able to use her reborn knowledge to handle stuff and is basically Mary Sue perfect. The romance is very weak, and MC doesn't even love her husband but things happen smoothly anyway. ML is about as deep as a piece... more>> of paper. He's also pretty low in IQ and EQ. Garbage overall -700tril/10.

Novel extremely lacks a reason for the audience to care about anything other than hoping MC lives a happy life. There's your usual assortment of Chinese s*um stereotypes, what with political shenanigans and all sorts of battle plotting. Novel never has a moment above mediocre. A waste of time to read, really. <<less

Although it was a Happy ending I wasn't very satisfied with it. Chu Yu and Wein Yun agreeing to let their child become an emperor, in my opinion, is not the best decision out there. The kid has to end up showing filial respect to the former emperor (cuz they are pretending it's his and the eldest princess's kid), who in the end is the mastermind behind the killing of wei Yun's family. And also making the eldest princess the regent, um.... really not the best. It would have been better if wei yun proclaimed himself as emperor.

the next 1/3 is them trying to push and pull and trying to figure out their relationship

This is a very dramatic, slightly angsty novel. I would characterize it as a slow burn romance. The CP has great chemistry. There's quite a bit of action in this book. The way the ML reveals his true feelings is one of the most dramatic scenes I have ever seen.

It's interesting because the MC is slightly older than the ML. If you include the lives she lived in her previous life, she's much older than him. But biologically, she's only a year older. She's very OP. She knows martial arts... more>> and later becomes a general.

The Elder princess is one of my favorite characters. She's the sister of the emperor. But later, there's a new emperor and she winds up being his much older consort. She's quite savvy politically and has managed to survive many regime changes.

As for the 2nd MC, what can I say? He has a major case of regretful male syndrome. He is completely different than what he was in his first life. He is devoted. But sometimes people are like two ships that pass by each other in the night.

Cons:

There isn't much character progression in either character. Both are super OP.

I'm not sure why either ML loves the MC, aside for the fact that she's the MC and she's a loyal person.

TBH, the 2nd ML is more interesting and three dimensional. <<less

It's a great novel. Love the undying resolve of the FL. Love the chemistry between FL and ML. The romance is great though not the main focus of the novel. Despite how despicable the og ML was I can't help but pity him in the end. He is the epitome of learning the value after losing it. And even though a lot of past lives suffering were because of misunderstandings, a lot of it was also directly because of him. So this second life is like retribution for all the... more>> pain he caused. It would be great if there was a 3rd life where he gets his chance with the FL without her having prior memory of what he did.

Reread it a second time. Still stands after what I wrote. I actually like it better the 2nd time around because I could pay more attention to details I skimped first time around. And I can't help but love the ML and 2nd ML even more. <<less

The author is one of my favorite authors. That's since I read Grand Princess. Thus I don't doubt the quality of this novel.

I don't know why this novel only got 3.8 rating. Fortunately I still chose to read.

The story is cliché, but still enjoyable. I admire how the author manage to add more values thus increasing the quality of a supposedly mediocre and cliché story into higher level.

As expected, every aspect, start from the plot and character building, is polished well. Not into perfection like a masterpiece, but I think... more>> it's enough.

I will shamelessly recommend this novel... But as I usually write in every review, everyone has their own preferences. Reviews are for reference, but readers are free to choose whether they want to continue reading or not. Why not give it a try first before you make decision? <<less

I MTLed most of the novel but must what a unique couple. Its nice to read a novel where the ML is younger than FL and is so devoted to her and all for wining her over. The FL is mature and smart. Loved the FL and ML.

This is my first book of this author and a have to say, the tragedy is really on point. This got me sobbing buckets in the middle of the night while I still need to go work tomorrow!

Will be back to edit after I finish with MTL.

This novel started out really refreshing! Instead of the usual cliché where the heroine is a fallen empress and the male lead is inevitably a cold, all-powerful emperor, here we've got something different: two main chracaters get reborn, bringing their own baggage and misunderstandings from their past lives. That double-rebirth angle makes things feel fresh and keeps their relationship pretty interesting from the start.

The heroine, Chu Yu, is genuinely likable, strong, capable, brave, and with legit military skills. I appreciated that even though she's reborn, she doesn't magically become all-knowing.... more>> She still makes mistakes and faces uncertainties, which makes her feel relatable rather than unrealistic.

The ML, stood out to me. He's youthful, sincere, and openly emotional - basically the opposite of your typical cold and distant male lead. He's possessive, a little jealous at times, but also genuinely sweet and authentic. His character feels natural and believable, which adds a lot of charm.

But I've got to admit, somewhere around chapter 120, the book started losing me a bit. What had been an engaging blend of romance, family drama, and political intrigue suddenly turned into an overly sentimental romance fest. ML's cute youthful sincerity became repetitive and too sugary-sweet; honestly, it felt like the novel shifted gears to be strictly "written by women, for women, " which turned me off. It just got too mushy at that point. By the later chapters, it felt like the author was using ML's constant jealousy as filler, padding the chapters without moving the story forward.

Speaking of filler, there are a few noticeable plot holes and inconsistencies. Chu Yu, usually sharp and intuitive, inexplicably fails to realize ML was also reborn, even when it should be quite obvious. The author also oddly glosses over Chu Yu's emotional connection to her son from the previous life, a pretty big oversight given the story's emotional depth elsewhere.

One scene that stood out negatively was when the author introduced a new character—probably meant as a romantic rival. This guy somehow effortlessly sneaks past Wei 's supposedly tight security, casually jumps into Chu Yu's courtyard in the middle of the night, and starts playing the flute. It just didn't make sense logically, and honestly felt forced just to add unnecessary romantic tension. Still, the first two-thirds of the book were really good and kept me turning pages fast. I especially liked the twist about who the real villain was - it genuinely surprised me! Unfortunately, once that big reveal happened, the story lost some steam, and things slowed down significantly.

Overall, I'd give the first two-thirds a solid 5/5 because they were genuinely captivating and fun, while the last third falls closer to a 3/5 due to the excessive sweetness, some questionable choices, and noticeable plot gaps.

Despite these flaws, I'd still recommend giving this novel a shot, especially if you like well-rounded characters, a fresh take on rebirth tropes, and emotional realism. Just brace yourself a little for the sugary slowdown towards the end. <<less

It started off alright. But then it very quickly descended into cheesy tropes. I love some of the stories with the same tropes (looking at you, Rebirth of a Malicious Empress), but at least make the people make sense.

She decides to marry into the Wei family in this life. She tries to prevent the tragedy to this family before it happens, but it happens anyways. (Not a spoiler btw since it's in the blurb/summary). Then ... more>>

the whole melodramatic scene of her protecting the caskets, while getting whipped, kneeling for days in rain etc outside the palace to beg the emperor. Let's not forget she just married into the family. She met her husband once and didn't even see his face for more than 1 minute. Then after the funeral when the only surviving Wei boy is sad, she gives him a flower (also does a spear dance) and tells him not to be sad anymore. Yes, that will just take away all that pain after losing his father and all his brothers. And miraculously her insensitive words cheer him up, because the heroine aura is strong here

I agree with one of the reviewers about how WJ died. The first 20+ or so chapters were really heartbreaking I cried so much. Why did so many good people have to die?!?! These few chapters successfully hooked me. It would've been better if the author kept WJ alive to continue but hey... I still like the ML WY. Just at the back of my mind while reading this I still held a grudge with the author that WJ died. I'm even abit regretful about finishing this story. Hahaha.

The story... more>> is full of twists, angst, political intrigue, bad guys who just wont die! And I liked the development of minor villains like the 2nd ML and CJ (FL's sister). Even the character villain ZJ the emporer had depth that I felt abit pitiful for him.

The war chapters went on abit too long to my liking, (personal preference), so I skipped a few chapters. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Plus my own personal feelings about how WJ died.

But the author really managed to get WY and the other male "heroes" to draw out tears in me as a reader. Their sacrifices, and loyalty to their own beliefs. Even the FL's sis in laws, I could feel their struggles, their loyalty to the Wei family and their late husbands. That's why I'm so upset the Wei family men died! But that's the plotline to progress the story. Sigh... You'll understand when you read the story! A worthy read if you can get through a story with more fighting, political chapters.

Oh I MTLed the remaining chapters. Which wasn't so understandable. <<less

I really enjoy this for the political intrigue. I can do without the previous-spouse crematorium chasing or the romance with the ML. There is character growth for some of the villains and side characters, as well as the main characters, which I really appreciate.

Even with the hiccups in translation, this is a beautifully & masterfully written story. The inescapable tragedy of the Wei family made me so upset, that despite how little time we had spent with them, I cried real tears for the gentle husband we would never get to know, & the brothers who didn't make it home to their wives & children. If this wasn't so well written, I would curse the author for being excessively cruel, but the way so many conspiring factors piled up against them really does... more>> make it feel like fate. They were so helplessly entangled in the political intrigues of a crumbling dynasty that it was no wonder that the Wei family could not escape being backstabbed & used as a scapegoat. They were too loyal to an incompetent & treacherous family.

I found it fascinating that in both lives, some things could not be changed, almost like it was the power a character's fate. The sister didn't marry Wei Jun as a substitute bride & chose another husband to escape hardship, but still ended up a wartime widow. The Wei family men still died on the battlefield, falsely accused, & Wei Yun still returned as the only surviving avenger. And Chu Yu still accompanied a man during the darkest valleys of his life as he sought to get justice for himself & his family.

Perhaps fate writes in some broad brushtrokes, and the power of humans is to fill in the blanks with whatever happiness we can. In the first life, Chu Yu chose a man who didn't know how to appreciate her & gave him her all. Her fierce loyalty, hot-blooded passion, & healthy body were all spent on warming the coldest, darkest winters of a man's life. She chose differently in her second life, but she still shows that same stubborn willingness to burn up her life for the sake of others. Hopefully, it will all be worth it this time.

In some ways, this story almost seems like a purgatory for the ex-husband, who only realized in retrospect that the most precious things are the sacrifices made for you in the dark, the single burning candle offered to you when you needed it the most. This time, he'll have to suffer & survive in the dark by himself, which as Wei Yun puts it, is possible but so much harder now that he's known the light. I can't wait to see how much he regrets. <<less
