The novel really start out well. It show's how the emotions derived from one's first love can lead to irrational decisions, but as the story progresses and the truths are revealed these irrational/poor common sense decisions continue to occur. After a while it turns into a "Well shouldn't anyone with a shred of common sense do x to achieve their goal y", but it doesn't happen. All common sense is thrown out the window in order to create a worthless arc or continue the story.

Moreover this story eventually devolves into... more>> a "Pick-Me" harem, with every female introduced somehow developing feelings or having a inner monologue of how attractive the MC is.
Spoiler

There is a Harem ending.

I honestly liked the female side characters (other than the knight commander), they at least had enough character development where you can match their actions to their motivations. But sadly, their character's growth just has the end result of being in MC's harem.

The novel started with a good premise, but starts continuously degrades due to the lack of logic the MC and his first love have. MC doesn't seem to have a lot of character growth, and his growth powerwise doesn't really make any sense.
Spoiler

The MC was never a mana/aura expert nor an expert swordsman, and he had his mana sealed for almost the entirety of the time after he graduated from the knight academy. When he finally is able to use aura, he's somehow able to stand up to the best knights on the continent, and win the Kingdom's swordsmanship contest?

[collapse]

TL;DR - starts with a good premise, continues with completely irrational decisions in order to create worthless arc's, ending up with a pick-me harem. <<less

Pretty early on, which I normally don't review this early, but the NU page has a too-low rating that it doesn't deserve. 4 for now, it absolutely doesn't deserve a bunch of 1's though.

As for the story itself, I'm only 23 chapters in, and I quite like it. Interesting setting, and there's some very emotional moments. That being said, they're very... dramatic. As in, drama like a story, built by bad communication. Much of the early conflict so far relies on the MC and the ex not really talking to... more>> each other. Which, to be fair, they have a ton of baggage.

That being said, I like the two female leads so far, and judging by the harem ending the other reviewer mentioned, I'm all for it. I do disagree with him/her though, in that I quite like the Ex so far. Could get worse, I am vastly far behind them of course, but for now at least it's just fine.

My only real complaint deals with the backstory that sets up the entire story. There's a flashback for a few chapters (around c20-ish or so), and there's a pretty gaping plot hole in my mind:

Spoiler

Well, he basically was set up and cursed by the FL's evil parent and another scheming lord. The scheme itself is perfectly fine/diabolical, and it works just fine. The problem is that he's literally already cursed and his future destroyed, and they demand he break up with his girlfriend, so they have literally nothing over him. Literally nothing. He's already screwed. All he has to do is tell her she was tricked, what happened to him, and their entire scheme - which by the way is TREASON, actual treason against the crown - would fall apart. But for some reason he just listens to him. He honestly acts like he's being blackmailed, when you know, he's not? He's already ruined.

[collapse]

I'm just super confused about why he reacted like he did, besides 'for plot reasons'.

But ignoring that glaring plot hole, I like a lot of what's going on. There's a great undercurrent of emotion going on with the main character and his ex, I like his mage friend (clearly #2, or maybe even #1 harem member). I enjoy a story about knights, especially aura+magic+knights, and the setting is good.

So yeah, not perfect, but definitely not deserving of ones. <<less
