Fu Ran, my rival, and I were friends with benefits, in the literal sense.

He had skin hunger, and I suffered from pheromone imbalance, so we both needed an Alpha or Omega to soothe us.

Recently, his white moonlight from abroad returned.

Who doesn’t have an unrequited love these days?

I turned to comfort my heartbroken childhood friend instead.

At night, after getting drunk, just as I was about to take things further, the door was kicked open.

“Luo Jiu An, are you cheating on me behind my back?”

The Rival has a white moonlight, and so did the protagonist. We never find out what was really going down with the initial confession, but we do get to see the state of the protagonist's current relationship. What I truly like about this story is the clear parallel behind how the childhood friend and the Rival handled a third-party claiming the protagonist's unsigned "confession" for themselves.

Like one character points out: he once liked that person, but many things have changed. Like another points out: pheromones don't lie. The protagonist says... more>> that he would rather have a purely physical relationship than to be someone's second choice to both the childhood friend and the rival. I love that his final lover goes the extra mile to clean up the mess on his own initiative instead of making excuses, before coming forward to directly confess that the protagonist is his only one.

I additionally appreciated that the ABO setting played a role beyond dubious consent. Pheromones are used in this story to give hints about the mindset and emotions of some abrasive characters that refuse to talk about their feelings.
Spoiler

The earlier line about pheromones not lying sounds toxic even before considering that it is said in the context of the main couple getting ready to have angry interc**rse after a disagreement. This line is important because not all ABO settings focus on compatibility or have fated pairs. The truth the author is implying here is that emotions are to some degree delivered through pheromones. The Male Lead knows that the protagonist was not truly excited or happy about the other suitor using pheromones and trying to force a kiss in the previous scene. He is not happy, but he did not truly misunderstand his lover. The protagonist shows a stronger reaction as soon as he releases his own pheromones, revealing his clear preference between the two men. The ML would still be an arrogant s*um if he did not prove his own feelings with his actions afterward. Thankfully this is not that kind of story!

[collapse]

I would like the story to be longer, but it is honestly unnecessary. The story has everything it needs from beginning to end. Much recommended. <<less

The translations are fine. It's a short read. There's not much substance in it. MC is pretty smart and powerful except when it comes to the ML. It's wayy too short for the kind of story it wanted to be.

Stories with plots like this are always better when they have like 20-30 chapters. Neither too long not too short.

I don't like the ML. I don't even like the MC much. None of their misunderstandings are resolved. They just get together and MC gets a permanent mark and the story ends.... more>> ML is very forceful, explains nothing and acts very psychopathic. MC is shown to feel fear and panic and if you read really between the lines you can take it as MC's fear and panic towards actually falling in love with an alpha and giving his all, especially when said alpha already has had a white moonlight and at no point did he make it clear that his crush on that wm is over.

There was some drama but it was condensed into mere sentences. Nobody behaved in ways that I didn't expect. Even the mc's bestie who was originally an interesting character just fell into the dog blooded rabbithole and became a second male lead for a chapter. It was awkward and very weird.

I'm giving this story 1 star because even though the translation was fine, the pacing and the story had nothing to like. There were plenty of cliches and I love cliches but even those weren't included seamlessly. It was all very jarring. The author also wanted to add spicy scenes so in the end everything became worse than it could've been. <<less

I loved it. It's very short and cute, a quick read. MC is an Omega but he's cool and strong, and deals with his work matters, with ML and others in a way I really like.
