When she was young, Wakako had a master.

Others called her Lady Saint.

The Saint had skin like ice and bones like jade, beautiful beyond human. She appeared cold on the outside, but spoke softly and gently.

Others said the Saint was destined to be offered to the King as his queen, sacred and inviolable, and that commoners like them should keep their distance.

“Are you leaving?” the Saint said calmly. “Only you will talk to me.”

Wakako couldn’t bear it, so she held her hand and solemnly made a promise: “I won’t leave. I’ll stay with you.”

The Saint was stunned, then nodded.

Life is unpredictable. Later, during political turmoil, the Saint disappeared and was rumored to be dead.

Wakako became a decorated mercenary, but she still couldn’t forget her former master.

During an urgent mission, she was forced to drink with her target and was subsequently drugged.

When she woke up, she found herself tied up and unable to move.

Opening her eyes, she saw the snow-white skinned Saint in front of her, her features seeming to radiate a divine light, making one want to submit at her feet and become her devotee.

Wakako had never been able to forget that face.

“Explain yourself,” the delicate Saint commanded.

Just as expected, the Saint had blossomed into an Omega, as ripe and alluring as a crimson cherry. Her pheromones, released without restraint, instantly made the knees of the Alpha, who had never touched a woman before, weak.

She crouched down, looking at the flushed Wakako:

“You know what the punishment will be if you don’t.”

For as long as she could remember, Miki had lived like a puppet.

Her family told her she was the most noble Omega, destined to become the King’s Queen. She had to be impeccably behaved, memorize noble etiquette, and learn how to please the King.

But no one truly cared about her.

Until she met that girl, the clumsy, silly Alpha.

Despite knowing nothing, she laughed without a care in the world, fearless and bold, promising to take Miki away.

It was the first and only time Miki had ever wanted to hold someone’s hand.

And she never intended to let go.

TL;DR: Yes you should read it.

The translation isn't perfect, but it's definitely not lacking!

The characters are nice and do have some depth to it. Alpha as bottom X Omega as top!! Side characters are also lovable! Sad there were no extras on the side characters.... I wish the author wrote some. (Carol n Liu shiuro after story would've been nice or even Senryu n Miki)

Honestly, for me the story peaked near the 2nd half of the story, I truly felt invested in the story and emotions (the plot was... more>> so intriguing and I felt the stakes also, the mystery about what will happen next). But then it just fell flat from there completely devoid of logic, still entertaining but you'll be dropping your jaw by how s*upid it starts to get.

I won't ever be rereading this again but I didn't regret reading it.

edit* I saw a redditor post a comment for Yuri LN/Novels reccs and I just wanna thank you kind stranger. <<less

Truly an interesting story as is to be expected by dragontl. I want to address some of the points brought up by some of my fellow reviewers;

yes, the fMC (Wakako) doesn't treat the saint as someone normal. However, this is different from the way everyone else keeps her in a gilded cage. Its more like, in her mind Miki (the Saint) is someone so perfect and wonderful. This is not due to her status but due to her temperment and personality. Wakako desires to protect her and does not wish... more>> even the slightest pain or harm on her. This does cause some issues however there is such a level of understanding between them that even though Wakoko turns away from her, Miki knows what is going through her mind.

Spoiler

Miki receives divine punishment for engaging in s*xual acts or any such things with Wakoko. Wakoko receives a dream/oracle showing Miki's death which leads her to stay away from Miki thinking that the divine punishment from their relationship with her is what caused her death.

[collapse]

Also Miki doesn't necessarily want to be normal, she just doesn't want to controlled and deal with all the restrictions that come with being the Saint. This is something she realizes
Spoiler

at the end of the novel when she no longer is the saint after winning a bet with god. She becomes insecure as she feels she cannot exert be her true self around Wakoko now that she is just a normal person. Thus she turns herself into god.

[collapse]

I think even in those chapters were Wakoko pushes Miki away, the dynamic of her being unable to resist Miki was quite interesting still. And finally when she realizes she doesn't have to fear the divine punishment was touching as it highlight the utter devotion and complete subservience that Wakoko has toward Miki. Make no mistake, this relationship is not at all healthy but it is very much consensual. Their relationship and chemistry is off the charts and lovely, truly one of the best dynamics I have read.

I think there were some parts of the plot that felt too long and slightly confusing. The wrap-up of the trials felt a little rushed but alas it wasn't illogical. I would say its an amazing read for those who are interested in plot and not just mindless fluff. Their relationship is extremely heavy (deals with a lot of the SM dynamics) and they are truly devoted to each other which was so beautiful to read. I loved the side relationships as well and would love to read more about them. Overall, absolutely solid read, but maybe not for everyone. <<less

Our MC is an elite guard with abnormal strength and inability to feel physical pain. However, there is a single person who is able to make her feel pain and that is her master, our FL. The FL is the Saint (the person chosen by God), the most revered and important person of the kingdom next to the Empress.

The MC is a masochistic Alpha and the FL your yandere sadistic Omega. They share a deep love that long surpassed healthy and straight up went into toxic obsessive tortures secret love... more>> affaire. But the two cannot be together due to the differences in their social standings and the restrictions placed on our FL as the Saint. And make no mistake, the FL is the yandere here but the obsession, the possessiveness, the yearning, the love are all mutual.

FL is kinda crazy sometimes, but everything she does is understandable and I mostly felt bad for her. She is a bird in a cage put on a pedestal and bound by chains. All she wished was to be a normal girl, to be free, but nobody treats her like that, not even the MC... which is sad and disappointing tbh.

The thing I started feeling frustrated about is that our MC is a huge coward and insecure when it comes to her love. Although understandable because she doesn't want the FL to be punished and pushing her away to protect her in her own way IS okay, it just dragged on for way too long and when the MC finally decided that she was also going to fight for their love, it didn't feel satisfying to me.

Spoiler

Another thing I wish the author put some effort into is giving a proper conclusion to some potential side couples. There are two which felt like it was going somewhere, but went nowhere... not even a mention... just finished the story like that. However, it does give a proper conclusion to the main couple and the conflicts between the two kingdoms.

[collapse]

Overall, I would rate this 4/5 for the enjoyment. However, I'm giving a 5/5 because of the beautiful writing and great translation, DragonTL never misses.

I would recommend trying it out. Their love is so heart wrenching and beautiful regardless of everything else that their happy ending was well earned and the novel worth the read.

And make sure to read the very last chapter in the extras.
Spoiler

It's from the perspective of the "God" which is the system administrator and it sorta gives clues on how the FL basically highjacked and took over the role of "God" in her world.

[collapse]

For those wondering, Alpha with no external accessory in this. <<less

Beautifully written deliciously sado-machochistic relationship between an alpha servant and her omega master, along with great plot and characterisation. FL omega saint Miki is a textbook example of a yandere, with borderline insane and sociopathic tendencies, but MC alpha mercenary Wakako more than willing to "suffer" through that obsession. The novel is also suprisingly spicy, considering the platform it was published at. The extras are great (and I'm someone who typically doesn't like "au" extras in stories, cause they usually don't add much to the story).

Also, this novel made me... more>> realise I need more stories with alpha bottoms and omega tops in baihe cause this is the only one I've ever read and it was FANTASTIC. <<less

Nine Summer Divine Punishment completely took my breath away. It's one of the most beautiful, emotional, and well-written stories I've ever read. The characters felt so alive, and the love between Wakako and Miki was so raw and deeply moving. Their story is now etched into my heart I'll love them forever.

There's something magical about how the author brings every emotion to life. You don't just read it you feel it. I laughed, cried, and genuinely felt every moment with them. It's truly a masterpiece.

I'm also incredibly grateful to DragonTL... more>> for translating this gem so wonderfully. The translation flowed so naturally, it never took away from the emotion if anything, it brought it even closer to the heart. Thank you so much for letting readers like me experience this amazing story.

I'll forever cherries the memories this novel gave me. If you're wondering whether it's worth reading it absolutely is. One of the best stories I've ever come across. <<less

I found this infuriating. MC is shown to be a little slow, but still intelligent. However her thoughts make it seem like her brain has been replaced with a sack of rocks, incapable of even putting 2 and 2 together when its right in front of her face.

Exanple:

Spoiler

FL and her had literally planned to run away and get married, but she still doubts later on that FL saw her as anything but a servant??

[collapse]

And then there's the God. He's cruel, unfair, merciless, and thrives on chaos and bloodshed. After even a fraction of what he's done, no sane person would still want to worship him. Especially the people he's oppressed. But yet everyone still worships him? I find the fact that worship of him hasn't been banned to be completely unrealistic.

Example:

Spoiler

He banned firearms in the past. But then allows Eagle Kindom to use them, while maintaining the ban on Mios. And then allowed Eagle's princess to have a whole group of firearm wielding soldiers accompany/assist her in the duel area, while Mios's princess has to go in alone to face all of them.

[collapse]

3 stars because despite suspending disbelief being impossible, and MC having the EQ and IQ of a gerbil, the non-romantic plot is tolerable with a decent amount of suspense and build-up. And other than a tiny amount of the usual pronoun mix-ups you get with CN novel translation, the translation is solid <<less
