She finds herself in the shoes of a tragic secondary female character in a Western novel.

Eloise is now in Manhattan during the Gilded Age of New York.

The late 19th century is a time of opulence and extravagance, with bustling harbors.

However, the original owner of the body is still a young girl, living with her younger brother at her aunt’s house.

Five people crammed into a small room, with leaking walls, dilapidated floors, and windows letting in the cold wind.

After paying the weekly rent, they can’t afford coal, flour, or even a decent meal, with potatoes boiled in water being a constant in their pot. They can’t even muster up three pairs of leather shoes among the entire family.

Eloise stares at the howling snow outside the window, worried, as she doesn’t even own a thick scarf.

She plans to revive her past profession.

Starting with sewing a piece of clothing to keep warm.

I love this novel! I've been on a hunt for business novels, and so far, this is one of the best ones I've read. Definitely recommending it. ✨ The MC is strong-willed, knows how to work with people, and is fully aware of what she's doing and where her limits are. Every move she makes is calculated, and she knows that if she wants to climb up, she can't always play clean. She uses her connections and talents wisely. What I love most is that she knows her worth. She's not... more>> a Mary Sue—she just has a bit of a golden finger, which basically means she has an advantage that helps her succeed. It's not necessarily overpowered, but it does make things smoother for her.

Her struggle to rise, especially as a woman in the 19th century, was so interesting to me. She starts with her tailoring skills, works her way up, and eventually becomes a sought-after tailor and even owns a department store. I really enjoyed her journey from the beginning, though I did notice that almost everything she tries turns out successful. It makes the story feel a bit lighthearted in a way.

Romance-wise, it's more of a background element and comes in the later chapters. Honestly, it felt a little lacking. The guy kind of feels like a decoration, and I don't think she's really in love with Winston yet or maybe that's just me. Winston is cute ngl 😭

I know this is set in the 19th century, so this is normal for the time, but I still got a bit of an ick from the age gap. The MC is 17, and the guy is 25. I KNOW it was normal back then, but still. AHHH.

Also, I'm really interested in Nasha's (?) story (not sure if that's the correct spelling since I'm using a translation app). I find her journey super fascinating, especially with how dirty the entertainment world is. Seeing her background and how people tried to use her made me really invested in her character.

Overall, super good read, especially if you're into business-driven stories. The MC's journey was really fun to follow. ✨ <<less
