Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

I don't know about this novel...

It starts out strong, but really falls short very quickly. I really tried to read until ch 100 hoping it'd get better there, but I don't feel enough attachment to the characters nor faith in the story progression to force myself to do so.

The setting involves players clearing mission like scenarios. Basically, once they clear one mission, they'll have to move on to the next. And this keeps happening in succession, and you are constantly feeling the same exact tension without catching a breath. The... more>> characters never have any freedom because they are limited by the scenarios, and as a reader I feel trapped by that restriction. The restriction is not simply "you can't do this" but more like "you MUST do this, or DIE!!" and everything feels soooo linear. The characters have 0 freedom.

I f*cking hope that the scenario system gets destroyed, but I don't think it'll happen soon.

Also, the plot device of MC knowing what to do and preparing his items beforehand gets really overused to the point that that's all the MC really does. At first you'll find the MC really ingenious, but then you slowly wonder, what else is there to the story other than the MC being very prepared for his upcoming challenges? Completely takes away the thrill from uncertainty.

The ML doesn't play a big role in the book, the MC practically does everything for him. His importance in the story is really diminished by the MC despite the ML being a cooler character.

And also, the MC forcing himself to not kill another person to retain a skill. is very frustrating. <<less

i finished this novel about a month ago and since then I have been devastated.

a lot of people I see get bored early on because they believe the MC is too op and always gets out of situations scot free which I understand but TRUST when I say theres a reason for it (also like MC is THEEEE most unreliable narrator like he may think he is getting out scot free but if you look at everyone else's perspectives no he is not)

also if everyone stuck it out till... more>> ch 188 as a trial period thats the best time to stop if you dont like the book

the webtoon is about ~20 chapters away from reaching ch 188 of the novel so if thats what you want to read feel free

to those who have finished the novel, I wish you luck in your depression

this novel truly is a love letter to the readers who read to the end, the readers who love the story, and the readers who love reading the story enough to dream of the story forever

this story is all about love and how you can always save someone, even if they say they dont want to be saved

its about how you can love someone enough to change the narrative of their whole life

the side characters are some of the best characterization I have read in a long while, they all have their own unique arcs and periods of growth, some more than others (like I said, unreliable narrator)

as someone who loves reading and rereading, this novel is truly one of the best things I have read in a long while

i may sound redundant but english isnt technically my first language and also I have too many feelings about this book to be able to put them all down on paper and also I simply am too emotionally wrought by this novel to care much about grammar <<less

Volume 1

It begins as a horror survival, novel-to-reality meta fiction story, but then soon evolves to include themes of friendship and found family, the power of making choices in a world filled with terrible options and how sometimes just one incident can change your life. One person, one story, can have a huge impact.

Honestly, if I had to rate this, it's a philosophical mindf*ck, but a gorgeous one that I can't wait to delve into further.

An absolutely perfect ending to Volume 1, where it ends with the end of Kim... more>> Dokja's story, just as it had begun with the end of Yoo Joonghyuk's story.

.

.

Volume 2

From Secretive Plotter to the 1863rd regression Yoo Joonghyuk, everyone turned up for the finale! And Kim Dokja continues on his tradition of disappearing from his team members at the end of a huge battle as a sacrifice to save their lives.

Still, a lot more lore gets explored. The "filtering" of text gets resolved, but also not. Probability is still an unfathomable concept and the author is now revising their story. Great! Somehow it's all mess, yet not a mess.

.

.

Volume 3

It is fascinating how we've finally finished encountering the third way to survive in a ruined world, yet this is just the third volume so far.

The first had regression, while the second revolved around returnees, and now the final method has come into play—reincarnation. Interesting to note is that we also come across the third and final protagonist of The Ways of Survival novel, but unlike Returnee Jang and Regressor Yoo, he plays a minor role even in the original novel.

Even more interesting is that the original novel is finally being talked about with it's characters! So far, the Fourth Wall kept our MC slightly distant from his companions, but now that possibility of being true companions no longer seems impossible.

.

.

Volume 4

Oh. My. God.

Kim Dokja, the absolute genius, complete madman and the biggest fool of them all!

One would think, if you've done the same ending 3 different times, surely you can't repeat it a fourth time? But no, the author really manages to seamlessly fit in the ending with the same, over-done kill-Kim-Dokja plot!

I have to say though, this is a brilliant cliffhanger, and an even brilliant move made my Kim Dokja. So many questions have popped up by now – who is the Oldest Dream, why is his ending the one the Dokkaebis are trying fulfill? And what is this Wall that keeps getting sidestepped around?

.

.

Volume 5

Kim Dokja, somehow, manages to go from being an Outer God to and Outer God and it is one of the best and most mind blowing scenes I've ever read.

The Oldest Dream is finally realised, finally awoken from and finally also put, once again, into deep slumber. Is he awake and dreaming of sleeping, or is he asleep and dreaming of waking?

We don't know. After all, everything is a story and everything is a dream. And within the dream, stories are never ending. That is the ■■ for Kim Dokja: Eternity.

I can't put into words what this last volume has made me feel.

.

.

Epilogue

Is the story really over when the author stops writing it?

From start to end, this is such a meta-fic that it's mind blowing. Kim Dokja reads a novel about a protagonist, Yoo Joonhyuk. Yoo Joonghyuk lives out his life story because a reader dreams to see him reach his end. And because he lives this life, Han Sooyoung writes his story, so that Kim Dokja may read it.

If an author didn't write it, then a story's conclusion couldn't be created.

The conclusion that was never written, never read, finally comes to a close. Kim Dokja, eternally waiting for his epilogue, finally realises that he can just imagine it instead. That is the power of the reader, reading a story.

Even if that was true, however, did that mean those reading the story couldn't imagine the conclusion on their own way?

It really was a wonderful tale of friendship in the end. Because everyone has their moment to shine, to become pivotal roles in the stories they possess, the stories they tell. And each story, containing minute fragments of their past, is needed to complete a person—no, not complete, to remember a person, as best they could.

If this story can really save you...

... Then I'll keep writing the epilogue for you until the end of the time, for eternity.

Because in the end, no one is a character, completely understood just from words on a page. It's ever evolving, ever changing, ever updating...a never ending story.

There are three ways to survive in a ruined world. I have forgotten some of them now. However, one thing is certain: you who are currently reading these words will survive.

And as long as even one person is reading that story, that story definitely has meaning.

This story is for just that one reader. <<less

You have no idea just how much I love this novel. The characters are so well fleshed out, and the plotline is extremely fascinating. I wholeheartedly recommend this novel to read! Ignore the reviews that have only read the earlier chapters because they really don't know enough to give a reliable opinion.

What irritates me is the people who read just a few chapters of this 500+ chapter book and complain about asspulls and things that are explained if they actually bothered to read the book further. Someone reads to chapter... more>> 30 and calls the book sh*t and one of the reasons they say it's bad is literally explained in the later chapters.
Spoiler

As in they emphasize how MC reads a book which somehow becomes real for "unknown to the reader reasons." Do you really expect something to be explained in the first 30 chapters? This novel is about discovering such mysteries, and the truth is revealed towards the end of the novel.

[collapse]

They also state that MC is disgustingly omniscient (which, what did you expect from reading the title??). Either way, MC is not omniscient at all, which they would've discovered if they bothered to read further. There are countless times where the MC is in trouble and needs to use his brain and desperately tries to work out a solution.
Spoiler

His knowledge gives him a large edge at the beginning of the apocalypse, as most people need time to sort themselves out and build their own base, but as time goes on, MC becomes less and less invincible. Sure, at the beginning he's able to take charge, but later on it's a lot harder for him to.

[collapse]

This is one of the most memorable novels for me, and I love it a lot. I can't recommend it enough! <<less

It was interesting and entertaining in the beginning but it got boring towards the end. In the beginning it was a story of a group of people trying to survive with MC who have read the novel able to navigate the task to complete the scenarios, But towards the middle it becomes MC vs everything (doekkebi, constellations, gods, demons) that its becomes repetitive. The MC said he's not the protagonist but he act like like one & the only reason he confess to his team about having read the novel... more>> because he got caught. All his sacrifices is selfish, there's a review saying that his so call sacrifices is traumatising his team, and I totally agree with that. <<less

ORV's definitely got its faults (stares very hard at the peaceland arc and the gaybaiting) but honestly its pros outweigh the cons by so much that I'd 100% recc this to anyone looking for an action-packed, plot-ridden, non-romantic long read wherein so many tropes get used, parodied and re-interpreted. Lots of references to various alternate interpretations of multiple mythologies - but ofc Korea is the most since it's mostly set there - and sometimes this feels a lot like reading an UF novel but with too many twists. Companions in life and death, please, who do you both think you're fooling XD

This novel made me so emo

For the most part, I really did enjoy this novel more than I thought I would. Perhaps it’s partly because the translations were phenomenally done or maybe just because it was an all-in-all a worthwhile epic. Though the latter half decimated half of my brain, the world-building & characters are well-written. I want to emphasis the characters because regardless of timelines, they each have their respective gravity & likable traits. It’s nice to see a story that emphasizes the importance of cohesion in teams, not... more>> so much pushing for solely the advancement of the main character. I love Kim Dokja Company’s nebula as a whole not an individual.

Would I ever read this in one sitting ever again? Probably not anytime soon. The clash of timelines & time paradoxes really did a lot more damage to my head than necessary. Might I also include the amount of emotional harm granted from reading through the torture that is ‘regression’. I’m not lying when I say that this story has some truly EMO moments. Imagine living an apocalypse more than 1000x times? Couldn’t be me.

It’s a story that leaves room for thought. A love letter to readers- to imagination- to the gravity of literature & what the latter is capable of. It can also be dubbed as a masochistic novel to read as the characters you’ve grown to love are never given a break. Read with an open mind! <<less

This novel is simply to great, I've read more then once and still not bord of yet, the MC is Op understandable that what was the tilte said, the "protagonist" is abnormal !! Of why wouldn't he, he has kept regressing so it would be more surprising if he wasn't especially in such a broken world.

I almost cried my heart out at the 516 after seeing "The End" but I calmed down after continuing on reading, I've experienced ups and downs with this novel, that my sis has to remained... more>> me that it just a novel. The crying and laughing, angry... etc Me:"... " ashamed. jpg

Nice Remainder: please don't confuse non reader's with your bad reviews, since there are some people who read no more then 30 or so chapter, saying it's tr*sh. What are you guys saying that the MC consider the people around him as NPCs !????? Nonsense, who who sacrifice his life over and over again for NPCs, and what's the problem with having the plot and being omniscient it was written in the tilte above so if you don't like it don't click from the start, and it's not like his super strong that he can crunch anything that came his way. Not alone. And please don't insult my favorite novel, I can accept criticism on one premise that you understand what are talking about, some people make me confused, which novel there talking about. <<less

This novel is very good.

The story itself actually has a fairly general theme (a kind of level up character like in a game) But is wrapped in a unique way, which no one else has used before.

Unfortunately, since entering the middle of the story, the story began to decline, the things that became a factor in the story declining itself were :

  1. One because of the translator of the story was changed
  2. The second is due to too much repetition of the plot about self-sacrifice.
And if I'm being honest, I'm really fed... more>> up with point number two.

Because it was really sickening to see him always make self-sacrificing, which in the same time was made all the members of the group depressed.

I mean if it's happed once or twice then it's okay, even if that sacrificing things happend three times is also okay.

But if it's up to 4-5 times??? It really makes people wonder how thick the Armot's plot that he have. <<less

This novel is amazing. I can't say it into words about how much I love this novel to bits.

Kim Dokja has got to be one of the best characters in the novel world, you can sympathize with him a lot, hes so well rounded, he experiences a lot of things, us (no offense) losers experienced, the being ugly thing (he was even named Ugly Kim Dokja) lasted awhile, he even wanted to keep a permanent fake face because he wanted to be handsome, hes just.. So relatable in so... more>> many ways, it makes you feel as if you're friends with him through a screen. This novel reaches out to us readers.. It's such a great novel, Solo Leveling can't even compare to the greatness of this novel (Solo leveling used to be one of my favourites, so don't hate me for saying this)

I was one of those people who convinced myself to continue beyond chapter 60-70 where things started getting boring. But that doesn't compare to the things beyond those chapters. Continue, don't stop, it's really a great novel. Beyond chapter 100 is where the real sh*t starts happening alright? So continue, persist!

Don't listen to anyone who gave this a low review, finish the whole damn thing (You may have noticed how the low reviews came from people who didn't even reach the 200th chapter mark) , and you won't regret it. The one that had a low review and had a lot of likes, barely even finished the novel. Simply comparing it to other novels like goddamn? Don't give out such a strong opinion when you showed that you were still at chapter 61. Along with the person who said this novel was sh*t when they were at chapter 31 💀

I can understand people who gave this 3-4 stars, people have different opinions of course, ALSO because they didn't impulsively make the review at like chapter 200 and below. Where things start drastically changing from Seoul to another world

Also, there is a con in this novel. The fact that it's extremely long, I took a long time reading this partially because of this con, you may lose interest in it a few times but you come back 2 days later and then get immersed into it again. Take breaks once in awhile if you feel exhausted reading the action and all that. I took breaks and the reading experience was still the best for me.

The person who said this novel was confusing? Maybe no offense you're just s*upid? I mean like, have you even watched Inception? That's whats good about Inception, it's because it makes us feel trippy.

Along the way, you may feel like his powers are too overpowered and all, but his powers eventually stop working, and he even vowed to himself not to use it anymore. He's not even OP in the slightest, he's literally the brains of the group.

No character? Lmao are you blind? I'm not gonna say anything more about his character, as that pretty much spoils the whole thing by then..

The side characters are *chefs kiss* as equally as lovable as the MC, I even cried multiple times because of them. I even cried more when it came to the main three. If you like overpowered MCs then this book may not be for you.

MC and Co had a lot of help from different people actually, if you like independent MCs that can kill a whole bunch of people with a snap of their hands, then shoo, you won't like this novel. But you can still try it out for yourself and see if you like it or not.

The women here are bad ass, they aren't damsels in distress, you may even have a crush on them if you like independent and powerful women (just like I did *cough cough being bi has its perks cough cough*) And they're even worthy to be shipped with the protagonist, though they don't end up together, there will be slight hints of romance in the first few chapters (though that romance completely disappears in the middle and late stages of the novel.)

This novel introduces depression, PTSD, and su*cide by the way. But that only shows up in like, 350 chapters and above.

This novel, made me so attached to everyone in a span of 3 months. If you're wondering why I took so long trying to read this novel? Merely because I didn't want it to stop. I took like a 2 month break after crying the sh*t out of reading it, but when I came back again at chapter 497, I started crying all over again.

Also tip, if you reach chapter 517 and feel like this conclusion is good enough for you, then stop. 518-551 makes you cry a lot, but the conclusion is as good enough as chapter 517. You can choose not to continue, it gives you two endings, the authors making you two great endings. It took me a whole month to read chapter 518-551 to recuperate after a whole rollercoaster of emotions during the reading of 518 and below.

Anyways, to summarize, this novel is amazing, don't listen to the bs the people who gave low reviews without even reaching chapter 200, MC has character, the side characters are amazing, MC isn't op, the novel made me cry a lot. JUST wait until you reach chapter 300 will then you be qualified to give a review (in my opinion.)

This novel is unique in its own way, and its also interesting. <<less

Khem... how do I say this...

Okay, it was probably one of the best novels I have ever read.

Such complex world building and beautifully uniting story (not only between characters but between us too (ReaderxORV)

And oh my don't get me started on plot twists. You think it's that way? Well it could be but then it says not that's it's not really true. Wait I was right all along? Didn't expect that.

  1. (I think u get the gis) Everything from beginning to the end of the novel is throughly connected and even seemingly insignificant dialoge is connected to the end too.

At first (200+) chapters I wasn't really into it. It was interesting for sure but kind of bland. BUT theeeenn it got really interesting. It made me read this novel though nights without sleep, that is how much I was engaged in this amazing story.

    The
    Spoiler

train scene really broke me. The fact that he choose to be there just for sake of others happiness without thinking about his own happiness is truly devastating. And it's not like he was there for a small amount of time. No he suffered many years while watching others happiness. And although he was somewhat envious his priorities (happy life for his comrades) won. Now when I see the train scene I have deep emotion of helplessness..

    Just his dedication...

    [collapse]

    Spoiler

also the fact that we could reincarnation of Kim Dok-Ja/ or contributer to his happiness and coming back home though reading this story and dreaming is truly amazing. Never ever was I so involved in a novel

    [collapse]

There's also theories that are really unique, as well as own rules that are really well thought.

    Spoiler

AND GUYS. OUR DUMPLING REGRESSED FOR KIM DOKJA 1800+ TIMES, ALTHOUGH HE HAD A HAPPY LIFE THERE... ITS TRUE LOVE (not necessarily love as in romantic way)

    [collapse]

The only side effect is that my standards for novel increased again, and thus it will be hard to be satisfied, which is really important to me as reading is an art of escapism. Bc we all know the relationships that are portrayed there are unrealistic.

I hope the authors will be rewarded for this novel... btw the fanarts of this Fandom are one of the best too.

All in all -> STRONLY RECOMMENDED

This is probably one of my favorite webnovels of all time. The plot is interesting, and it sometimes makes you think. There were times where I had to stop reading to wrap my head around what was happening. Dokja is such a good MC, I really like him. Joonghyuk is a bit of a lovable cold prick, which is understandable due to his circunstances. I also really the side charactes, even though not all of them were developed fully.

At the point of review, I have read quite some novels about OP protagonist with information about the future or cheat skills, be it through rebirth, as a reader, isekai tropes, transmigration etc.

Review is full of spoiler so please skip it if you don't like spoilers. And also, since I didn't finish the whole novel, I may not have understood the meaning of the novel fully, so I'm may be biased. As the MC mentioned, I'm just one of the many that 'got off'. Feels kinda sad haha

It started off... more>> strong but went down to average around chapter 300 onwards

Spoiler

Strength:

  • The premise is unique, the concept of constellation watching/being sponsors, the people as 'actors', the Dokkaebi as the 'youtuber' kind of roles. Although I read quite some of the tropes I mention above, this concept is new to me so it was something refreshing.
  • Side characters are not useless. The side characters have their own stories and some maybe even stronger than our MC. They have character development too, some even more than the MC
  • Exploring on human emotions as we see the people face ordeals and challenges based on the decision they make, be it physical challenge or mental ones. This make the characters less 2D.
  • Breaking the 4th wall on some of the novel cliches we see often.
  • The story about all the gods is quite interesting to read about since I don't really read up about this stuff on my own. It can be quite informative for some of us who don't know much about the gods if you ignore the bias parts of the author against some gods. I like when author does research for the materials they use in their story, though I'm not sure how accurately it was portrayed in the novel.
  • Not really a point but something I ponder about (?). In a sense I feel we are similar to the constellation, hoping to see more refreshing 'stories' while 1st generation stories are slowly being neglected, yet we miss the feeling of reading '1st generation' stories for the first time. Although not as extreme and godly as the constellation to the point of desiring bloodshed for stories, I feel that we are similar in the sense of our comments, sometimes praising, sometimes bashing authors. Seeing this being talked about in a novel is quite contemplative. There are also other contemplative things incorporated in a novel which is interesting to see and ponder about.
  • Biased point: As a fujoshi I'm happy with the bromance moments. Also appreciate that there's no romance cause harem is getting annoying. Even if there's no harem, usually romance in this kind of novel is not executed well. If it's executed well then its okay.

Weakness:

    • Repetitive. I think this is a point mentioned in a number of review which I agree.
The MC: Although the arc each time is different, at one point you just feel: Even if he dies he is not gonna die anyway. He's just going to comeback stronger. His party will just feel worried/angry that he 'dies' without telling them anything. MC starts apologizing, party member forgives him, then he repeats this whole sh*t again.

Antagonist: Not sure if the author got something against the gods but anyway: The Olympian gods. At first it was okay, I didn't mind the author trying to make some gods antagonist since this is a story and all that but. In this story there is the concept of probability, and the olympian gods trying to impede the MC consumes the probability. They did so many grand scale thing and consumed so much probability just to hinder the MC, and MC being the MC survives and comes back stronger. That's okay. Then next moment, you see the same group of antagonist disturbing the MC again. Like what??? What happened to the probability?? They do it so many times it makes me wonder just what is the point of the probability. Then when the MC face probability issue his body always disintegrating like paper burning. Then here comes plot armor and MC survives. Seriously. Then next this sh*t repeats with other antagonist gods after the olympian gods suddenly got some other issues to take care of.

Relationship: I might be biased with this point but I'm honestly tired with the sudden falling out that happens at the most crucial moments. I get that they may have arguments and all due to misunderstanding and the tough things they experience, but this sh*t happens so many times as if the previous talking outs were a joke.

Maybe I'm just not empathetic enough with the characters?

Unexpected: I see this word a whole damn lot, especially when said by the MC. He always says its unexpected, but somehow he always got some countermeasures. Then what is so unexpected about this? First few times I was unexpected to see the unexpected word but after seeing it for the Nth time its not so unexpected anymore, the MC just gonna solve it anyway, at most 'die' a few times. I guess I'm just doing the same thing Dokja did to jonghyuk, complaining its repetitive.
    • Plot armor execution: Since we are reading this kind of OP MC novel, we all know that the plot armor is there. However, the plot armor is not well executed here. We already know the MC has plot armor yet the author is shoving that fact into our face. This is linked to the previous point about how MC keeps 'dying' but comes back anyway or how things are 'unexpected' but the MC got backup plan anyway cause he knows future information - of which we get to know it only after MC execute all his back up plan. Since the MC is not actually going to die anyway, I would rather get to know the future information alongside the MC and know what he is doing while he is doing it, not after everything is over. I also see others talking about how the author is mystifying everything unnecessarily which I agree.

This part is not related to the novel content itself but the issue of the change in translator.

Overall I'm appreciative of both translator. They both did a good job in translating the novel as I see their efforts in making the translation smooth and comprehensible.

There are many complains about the change of name and terms. As a reader myself, I understand why people are unhappy as we are already used to the terms and names used for around 300 chapters and a change in name makes it hard for us to adapt all of a sudden. English readers may find it easier to read the more 'english' versions of the name. However, I also understand the translator wish to be as accurate as possible with the translation. I guess its more of the style of translation? It's not that hard to adapt, just read the chapter a few more times and you will get use to the name. The translator is also making an effort to bring the novel to us so let us be appreciative of it as we are not entitled beings. Names and terms aside, I can see that the translation is of good quality and comprehensible. As a reader we all know how terrible it is to see a novel stop being translated halfway. I'm thankful for the first translator who brought us through more than half the novel, and the second translator for taking time to finish the other half, though I only read a part of it.

As a translator myself, it is quite discouraging when we see these excessively negative comments. I'm not saying its wrong to complain about the translations as these comments can serve to improve the translator's translating skills, but comments can be done so more constructively and not with excessive hate.

Perhaps both translators and readers can learn from this.

As translators we should take into account that people are already used to the names/terms, especially in long novels like this. While it is not wrong to try and make the translation as accurate as possible maybe a poll asking whether people would like the change in terms would help as we are not only translating for ourselves. But if the terms are really inaccurate then I guess there is no choice but to change. Also, if terms have to be changed it probably has to be applied to the whole novel starting from chapter 1.
As readers, learn to be appreciative of the translators efforts. They are humans too and are not your translation spawning machine. You can give constructive feedbacks but please not with excessive hate. As I mention before we readers are not entitled beings. A little positive comment such as 'thank you for the chapter' might just bring a smile to the translators and motivate them to translate more and better:)

Can recommend to read it, but after the authors did this really unexpected thing to the MC the novels gets a chore to read.

The beginning part of the novel is the best one in my opinion (~300 chapters) and aftewards the novels gets mediocre. The setting of an "omniscient reader" is quite interesting but has its disadvanteges. Especially due to the repetition of certain parts again and again because the MC knows the novel he is in and some smaller reasons the reading experience suffers at the later parts of... more>> the novel.

Spoiler

The concept about how the world is created and how the MC can star in it is never really explained properly. Yeah there is the "Most Ancient Dream" but how everything started is never uncovered. Even if someone wrote the novel that the MC reads and has to read to keep the world lines alive gives no explanation how the first word line started.

[collapse]

In conclusion I enjoyed reading the novel unit the aformentioned ~300 chapters. After that the repetition, plot armor, lacking explanation of certain details and to long epiloge made it hard to continue reading the novel. <<less

This novel is just too meta and geeky for me. Seriously, this is the geekiest novel I've ever read, and not in a good way. The only ones who'd enjoy this are hardcore gamers, and super geeks.

The first few hundreds of chapters are still good enough and entertaining, but the last hundred, especially the ending, is just too damn confusing and kinda silly.

The author had a very big problem since the beginning as he took on a heavy meta-themed story by breaking on the reader's fourth wall (the real one,... more>> not talking about MC's skill). And for me, it didn't work, it just seemed extremely silly and geeky. The mystery conclusion is definitely not well-thought out. The author took the easy way out to bring it to conclusion, which involved some suddenly appearing complicatedly entangled unsatisfying silly subplots.

Spoiler

Turned out MC is the 'God' and the regressions are actually his own work, TADA!!!

[collapse]

It's such a nonsense that it made the months long I spent reading this from the beginning seemed like such a huge waste of time.

Honestly, reading the ending made me wanna punch the author in the stomach. <<less

This novel is not good. Don't get me wrong, it is not a dumpster fire, but it is not enjoyable to read past a certain point. It is of no surprise to me that the rating for this novel is so high, as the only free chapters are the opening ones which coincidentally also are the best ones by a large margin.

Do not spend your money to read this novel. I repeat, DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY.

The issues with this novel can be summed up in two points: TL;DR, the... more>> novel doesn't respect (ironically) its reader, repeats story beats to an ABSURD degree, and the 2nd main character evolves from a depressed teen to a depressed three-years old.

1) Every story beat is repeated. And when I mean every "story beat", I do not mean "some story beats", I mean pretty much all of them. As of 357 chapters I counted the same exact plot, just with different skins, happening 4 times: (very light spoilers)
Spoiler

Our Main Character encounters a problem and solves it, which so happens to coincide with the very imminent conflict he is about to face. The conflict arrives, and our characters are outclassed/outsmarted, but they manage to win anyway. BUT WAIT A SECOND, a second, worse, problem arises, this time the characters don't have any hope..... until MC-kun (I mean Kim) pulls out a deus ex machina out of his ass, solves everything, and then disappears for a while, usually by fake dying.

[collapse]
Meanwhile we are given a lot of useless information that will maybe come into play 50 chapters later in a very unsatisfactory manner, or will just be forgotten. And speaking of forgetting...

2) Oh my god is the 2nd main character an absolute child. At the start this makes sense, but there's only so many times you can do "Muh I don't trust anyone.... Aside Kim.... OH WAIT I DON'T TRUST HIM" before you start to think that he has some sort of mental disease
Spoiler

(Which he has, but it is cured very early on)

[collapse]
. This is actually the reason why I dropped the novel. MC number 1 blindly trusts MC number 2, giving him information he should not know and doing everything in his power to keep him not only alive, BUT HAPPY, yet MC number 2 is an ungrateful bastard that constantly betrays him with the excuse of being betrayed first, only for the conflict to be resolved with the power of friendship, ONLY FOR THE CONFLICT TO BE REPEATED JUST A LITTLE WHILE LATER. <<less

(Read up to c74) (Sorry for grammar)

The unpredictable novel I've read so far, in a good way of course. When you expect a typical Korean Novel with typical plot after reading the early parts, then BOOM! Stuff happens that you never think happens. It is refreshing to read as you were so used to the morals of Asian culture and want a change of pace.

I don’t recommend reading this book. It’s extremely popular for a reason: it has some of the best writing in fiction. The first ten floors/events are captivating, and the quality is maintained though the book becomes a bit more unfocused. The world building is amazing, the characters are fleshed out, the action scenes are captivating. Also, everything is just plain cool. Once you start reading, you’ll be hooked and you won’t be able to stop.

The ending is an atrocity. It invalidates the struggles of all of the characters. The protagonist... more>> has zero character development. This book is like eating a delicious bag of candy, then the last piece is poisoned, causing you to vomit everything else and fall severely ill for several days. Find something else. <<less

As with almost every novel I've read, I picked up the webtoon first and got hooked enough to continue reading because I couldn't wait all the years it would take the webtoon to catch up.

ORV and its characters have a chokehold on me. I'm so attached to them in a way that I stay far away from the fandom because I don't want to have my enjoyment ruined. I have a complex love-hate relationship with KDJ in particular, the more you find out about him the more interesting it makes... more>> other details in the story.

Reading to the end and having things from earlier in the novel re-contextualised has made this one of my favourite novels to reread, sometimes from the beginning or sometimes just particular arcs I want to revisit. It's a story I think about so often and cry over almost just as much. <<less

  • a hidden bl novel disguise as a survival theme one (the only reason this had high ratings are because of those bl fanatics smh)
  • the only interesting parts are the emotional arcs and it mostly runs at that.
  • some characters are literally forgotten like the blonde girl from the demon realm with the "wall" thing.
  • all supporting characters became 2d with no personality chars because "kim dokja is always RiGhT"
  • the narration is really boring, author only hype the mood when he wants to kill dokja
  • the fact that the author failed to incorporate eldritch theme and when he hype some outer god like the master of rlyeh and sarnath then started to put "oH leTs uSe tHe pAst rOunDs cHarAcTerS aS oUtEr goDs iNsteAd" like wtf?
  • HSY is pretty underwhelming with fans hyping 'oMg itS thE trIO' and there she is weaker than the two
  • too many plotholes
