Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint

Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

Warning / If you do not want this book to be criticized at all, I suggest you slowly ignore this review.

|

This book gets 2.5 out of 5 stars for me.

... more>> First of all, I would like to touch upon the good aspects of the book, and I am going to list the following.

  1. The story is exciting and engaging for readers new to the genre.
  2. The main character remains calm and collected in difficult situations and does not overly rely on the support of others to get through them.
  3. If you are overwhelmed by romance, I can say that there is no romance in this book.
  4. Another positive thing is the pictures drawn for the book rather than the content of the book... Each of them is drawn very well. The art and illustrations in the book are incredible. I appreciate readers reading this book and illustrating some of the excerpts.
After the things I have listed for you to read, I am going to list the negative aspects of this book for me. After reading this review I have written, it is up to you whether you read this book or not.

  1. First of all, while the world-building in this book is impressive, it ultimately feels too small and limited in its scope. Although the topic generally covered the entire world, the content seemed to revolve around only a group of about fifty people. Real-life characters were only briefly mentioned. This made the story very far from reality.
  2. The character's tendency to sacrifice himself and create unnecessary drama for other characters may become tiresome to readers.
  3. Just when we thought things were going to end badly, without letting the reader or the characters in the book know, MC suddenly comes up with a plan that he says he has designed "from the very beginning" and saves the day. I am very serious about this, all my enthusiasm and excitement for reading are destroyed by the plans that were said to have predetermined this ending. While reading the book, I never read it with the thought of losing it. While reading, I was reading like a reader who knew the ending in advance. There were places that surprised me. But in general, I felt like the same things were repeating over and over again.
  4. The relationships between the characters considered as a group could have been made tighter with simple but effective events. Even though the author (or authors) made the relationship between them seem strong, I couldn't quite feel why it was "so" strong. It was as if everyone suddenly came together without any incident. It felt like the author (or authors) tried to create a group right away without going too deep because they wanted to have friendship and a group in the book. Things that happened between friends could have been explained in a little more detail. It felt like it was written to be written. In short, the relationships between characters could have been more clearly developed and established, instead of feeling as though they were created simply for the sake of having a group dynamic. The relationships between the characters were not written satisfactorily enough.
  5. While the authors made an effort to incorporate interesting interpretations of the Constellations in earlier chapters of the book, these aspects ultimately become repetitive and boring by the end.
  6. This book may seem quite different to those who read it for the first time and may not focus much on the outline of the book, but as someone who has been reading books of this type for years, I can say that the book is full of gaps and inconsistencies. The writing style is quite simple and straight. The end of the book is... Ah... I do not even want to get into that subject.
  7. Lastly, I would like to mention something instead of the content of this book: Fanatic Readers. This book has fanatic readers just like those who defend kpop idols without thinking twice. According to me, this book is overrated if I compare it to the other books. Oh, and as someone who normally likes BL ships, I did not like the ship in this book at all. The fact that they made a boys love ship when there was not even a bromance between the two characters only made me laugh with disappointment.
Finally, I call out to the valuable people who read this review. I hope you will be a little more open to criticism and read the book with a little more critical eyes.

Still, despite everything, I hope that the author (or authors) will be better in their next book. <<less

I finished reading the novel (4 times) n I've read them not here but in the link that I've got thanks to that another fan who shared it to me.

All I can say is this is one of the best story/novel that I've read. I'm not the type of person who'll re-read a story again, cuz for me (1st) that's a waste of time n second what's the point of reading again if you already know what's going to happen. But this story?

Nope, I keep reading this over n over!... more>> The reason why I kept re-reading this is because

So many inconsistencies, author talking about cliches while making the ultimate cliche - bending everything for plot cliche and destroying all rules established previously cliche.

here be spoiler analysing a single event that happens ch68-70.

Spoiler

MC needs to get Changsin station, but it's been occupied by Tyrant King, MC needs to either get the Tyrants flag or go to Tyrants main base and put his flag in the flaghole.

Jerk Yoo breaks through the roof and drops down on Tyrant and kills him, then MC runs towards Tyrants corpse and picks up Tyrants items but not the flag which would imply that Jerk got the flag but why not the items?, all the while Jerk Yoo is running towards MC, see the problem?

next MC is not allowed to enter Last Kings challenge because MC doesn't have the Changsin station, but then he gets Changsin station flaghole and puts the flag into it this accomplishing the requirement, except that's not how it works, only main base flaghole counts so he needed to put the flag into Tyrants main base flaghole but Tyrants flag was taken by Jerk which means that even if Tyrants main base was Changsin then it would have changed to Jerks main base, if Jerks main base was Changsin then Jerk would lose his King qualification and be kicked out of the Kings free-for-all battle, see the huge problem?

Jerk Yoo was not kicked out so that means he didn't pick up the Tyrants flag but then why did MC not pick the flag while picking Tyrants other items, wtf is with this convoluted bs plot? Everything would be fine if MC took the flag but noo, then all that bs "oh no! What do we do now?" and then that bs "clever" way to get the Changsin flaghole is all just tr*sh bs padding.

And why the hell did MC and Jerk runs towards each other and not meet? Jerk is super and faster so there's no way he would let MC slip through.

it was stated long ago that Changsin station was taken over by Tyrant so getting Changsin flaghole wouldn't work, the conclusion that might work is that after a king dies and no one picks their flag then their territory becomes free but it was never stated that such a thing was possible because it was explained in a way that contradicts this possibility.

[collapse]

but author likes breaking established rules for plot since a while ago
Spoiler

some people managed to enter the station and enter the movie theatre even though the station was blocked so no one could leave or enter the place.

[collapse]

And let's not forget the sinister undercurrent of the novel that questions what is real
Spoiler

basically MC world and Jerk Yoo novel world are being merged into one, kinda hard to write so simply people from MC world are looking at novel world as fake but novel world people cannot accept that, but MC world people are being turned into novel world people, and MC doesn't understand that possibility, like jeez your name is Dokja which translates to Reader, what a damn coincidence eh, is it hard to believe that MC is just a character in another novel, but MC cannot accept it just like those novel world people cannot accept it.

[collapse]

I'll continue reading and it's too soon to give a rating by me, but apart from interesting world and overall plot, the author is still lacking in writing continuity or is just tr*sh and did that on purpose. Just another great novel being ruined by a bad writer at this point imo

edit: wow author creating plot by making MC forget things and then remember them at crucial moments, if that's not a cliche then what is? I was honestly thinking MC turned into a ret*rd but no he just has bad memory lol <<less

If you're into fast paced action, this is not for you.

But if you're into an action fantasy with friendship as focused rather than romance, this is for you.

One of the best web novels I've ever read and I've read 2000 so far.

Btw don't judge a book when you haven't finished it, you noob

Reading the other reviews was definitely frustrating, "Main character has only plot armor and he knows everything!" I assure you that you'd only say that if you've read it with your eyes closed, the novel takes a huge turn towards middle to end. Personallu I adore the novels and how likeable the characters and backstories were, the sequence of events was good. The art was also really pleasant and I feel like the writing style was understandable. It was extremely slowpaced tho, I definitely didn't like how it was so... more>> long and surely procrastinated alot. It was very worth the time, Perhaps a new hyperfixation. There were some bland and boring parts but every novel has its flaws. <<less

This will Forever be my favorite novel. A ride of emotions and the story... God it's superb. To the lower star givers that are whining about the characters choices and the end, y'all just cant handle heavy angst. I think the characters decisions were pretty humanly. Humans are greedy, selfish, ambitious, impulsive, protective and more, and I think the authors did a great job in showing that in the story. The end for me hurts but it's GOOD. I love how even if the novel has ended, all the readers... more>> would still be thinking about their own choice of "ending" for the novel. Here’s a spoiler without a spoiler: There’s a Kim Dokja among us and that’s what makes this novel a reality. You just have to believe that.

Read the whole story in 5 days, sacrificed a portion of sleep to finish because I just got so engaged, and I loved it so much.

Masterpiece.

Overall though the story, plot, character development, and ending are all really well done.

I think there is a reason so many people have highly reviewed this, you won't be disappointed.

My only negative feedback is that the novel can get a bit repetitive if you binge read it.

IT WAS SO f*ckING GOOD

At first glance, ORV was generic. The first 100 chapters didn’t intrigue me that much as it was kinda cliche: cunning MC who knew all the things to do and had special ability, the devastating scenarios, people dying, companionship etc etc.

Then the rest? Absolutely phenomenal.

... more>> All the things that had happened throughout the series were throroungly unfolded rather than being left unexplained. Character development and relationship was done well. There were hidden details/foreshadowing along the novel so when I realised I just went “ayo wtf”.

At the end, ORV really made me tearful. It was everything but a generic power fantasy. <<less

Started well, but got increasingly random and repetitive.

The beginning is pretty great, really. Interesting characters, fun events. However, as the story progresses things became increasingly baffling and random.

For example, everyone becomes a story and the winner in a fight is about who has the best story, only god knows what that means or how it is judged, as a reader you have no idea. Just complete nonsense.

For some reason good stories have some effect on probability and that somehow affects whatever and everyone is busy sacrificing themselves for each other... more>> all the time, which really gets boring the fifth time.

I already lost most of my interest in the story when we got to the edgy plot twist that angels and demons are both equally evil. Really didn’t see that one coming... and dropped.

Spoiler

I was also somewhat annoyed The scribe of heaven who is so cunning and crafty and the best planner made an insane plan with huge risks without any steps towards ameliorating said risks, such as preparing beforehand the weapon against the dragon of the end. I’m pretty sure that was a thing, I dropped this like a month ago.

Alright so I discovered this novel completely by chance. As a person who hadnt even read Solo Leveling I was going through discussion about the final chapter. There I found a recommendation for ORV for people looking to fill the void left by SL. I always love recommendations but I was sad to see that ORV (manhwa) was still ongoing. Nevertheless I searched about it and apparently, it had a novel! And it was complete! I, of course, immediately downloaded it all.

I read the first few chapters.... and they were... more>> good. Nothing mind blowing but pretty good. However once Kim Dokja crushed the grasshopper eggs, I became insanely invested. Over the course of 3 week I read some 400 chapters, before eventually slowing down and after another 2 weeks.... finishing it today.

Now onto the review!

Omniscient Readers Viewpoint is literally the definition of Chekov's Gun. Every chapter, every page, every sentence and almost every word is of the utmost importance. Names of places, skills and people even are setups for future storylines.

What initially drew me to the story was how the MC was very clearly not all powerful. He was just very, very smart and knew exactly what had to be done..... at the beginning anyways. I love how, as the story progresses everything just goes out of his control. And just when you think he has f*cked up, he pulls through.

However, and here's what I liked best about this banger of a novel, there were always consequences. No matter how much he thought ahead, how much he planned and prepared, things still managed to go wrong and he had to improvise. And he always, always faced consequences. A personal favorite of mine is the Demon World Arc as that's just one big consequence.

I don't want to go to much in detail but the story is very fast paced. There are literally no breaks. No wait. There was one break. In 551 chapters, there was one chapter in which our characters relaxed. This is kind of a flaw for me since I eventually got burnt out on the story due to my intense pace. However for lovers of constant action I guess it would be nice.

Another thing, there is no romance at all. Very tiny hints and teases but absolutely no romance. However the love between the characters was so real that I didn't really feel the absence of romance at all. And that's saying a lot since I am a huge romance leech.

I have so much to say but the review would be too long. Before going, the story isn't mindless at all. If you are looking for turn your brain off action, this isn't it. You wouldn't understand half of what happens unless you think it through!

Finally I can say that for me, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint was an absolutely perfect story with a perfect ending. It is not the typical happy ending so be careful. Also if you're a crier please keep lots of tissues and water nearby. This story overflows with genuine emotion at every facet.

If you love plot, action and intelligent stories. Read Omniscient Readers Viewpoint is all I am gonna say. An absolute 10/10. <<less

What can I say to this masterpiece?

Unlike solo leveling, the MC isn't as op as everyone thought. He need others help to complete the scenario and even die multiple times.

and even despite him being the cretaor of star stream, he's powerless. That's why even the dokkaebi king calls him a powerless king, if I'm I'm not wrong. The last part when reaching the final wall only resulting him sacrificing himself again and became the oldest dream, repeating the cycle.

[collapse]

The ending is a bit sad tho, but this part is where I feel like the author is a frkin genius. We as the reader decide the ending as that 1% remaining of him. That's why the angst feels right to the heart and I i can't move on from this masterpiece TAT <<less

The characters don't feel like people, but like plot devices. Everything drags on and only about 20% of the information is relevant to characterization or the story.

The world building is alright, I will give it that.

I am honestly surprised how many average stories get 4.5/5 on this site, it's disheartening that I can't even rely on the ratings or public reception here.

Omniscient Reader Viewpoint. After reading the novel, I got to see how well thought the title was. In its essence, this story is a time travel story tightly integrated with Lovecraft lores. There will also be a lot of myths from Earth.

The background itself is about the world of the MC that has turned into a novel about a regressor protagonist that he's been reading for half of his life. There are monsters popping out, game system lv, and so on.

It's plenty exciting in the beginning like the usual way... more>> Korean novels are, but as it went on into the middle part, the power level got so extremely jumbled that readers won't have an exact idea on how strong something is. This is actually okay if the novel concentrates on its core story and mysteries, unfortunately the author keep going with battle after battle that rewards power up instead of a meaningful story progress. This made reading the novel into a chore for me as I felt that progress stagnation after around 350-400 chapters.

In regards of writing, ORV is plenty decent. The author keep a good track to keep a consistent story plot and since the progress of the plot itself is slow, you can see a lot of side characters progress. Do note that some characters are a bit 'wacky', so even if the character is consistent, their acts in regards to the story might not feel logical.

After getting through the middle part, the last part was simply the best part of the novel, specifically the last arc and the epilogue art. There is so much plot points poured into this last part and we can finally see the grand design of the novel, the final battle and the conclusion of the novel was tied into a pretty package for us, it was satisfying to finish this novel instead of the usual 'half-satisfied' feeling.

In the end, I can't score this novel solely upon its ending (which will give this a 5 stars). I just can't brush away the lackluster battle where the author have too much freedom in its result and the convenient 'crazy' characters that drives the plot.

It's still a good read though it could have been so much better, 3.5 stars <<less

Okay, so hey. This would be my fourth review on this site and the first review for this novel. I have finished all 551 Chapters of the novel last night (well, dawn) and can I dare say, WOW. If you've finished reading the book, then congratulations. I'm sure you've been on an endless emotion-filled roller coaster ride.

Here's my review of this novel. It might be a long-ass review so, be warned!

First of all, I wanted to thank the authors (yes, authors, with an S, because there were two people who... more>> worked in creating this masterpiece of a novel; married couple to be exact) for creating such an amazing yet mind-boggling literature piece. Every character written and introduced was not for naught. They each served their purpose in the story and were not wasted nor forgotten somewhere down the road. The characters created by the authors had personalities, quirks, and characters that sometimes I even think that, after a certain scenario ended when they're not needed anymore, they go back in living their own lives, trying to survive in that apocalyptic world. It feels like they're not "just" characters anymore but beings who have managed to create their own consciousness; freed from the authors' pen and paper. Beings who have dreams, passion, and emotions. The main characters and the side characters were so well-made that those who said that the characters in this novel weren't fleshed out have not read the entire novel then. People might think "Why is this novel always centered around the MC? What about the other characters?" Well, you see. If you've read the entire thing, you'd know just WHY the story had been centered around the MC. You'd know WHY his name is 독자 (Dok-ja) and WHY it is so important to remember and understand his name. So, please, if you're just in the few first chapters, honey, you're not even in the ride yet. You might think I'm overdramatic or exaggerating things, but if you had even immersed yourself in the world created by the authors, you'd understand what I mean.

Second, the topics and theories that are incorporated, talked about, and applied in this novel are INSANE. The authors really incorporated debatable topics in this novel such as ethics, religion, myths and legends, morality, time and space paradox theories, and even the known beginning of mankind was questioned, contradicted, and applied. Being a person who loves and is curious about the concept of paradoxes and the beginning of everything, made me think of infinite possibilities if what the authors wrote in this novel could actually be the reality that the scientists and researchers have been searching for a long time and at the same time, it made me understand that the concept of time and space does not end because it has no known beginning. The concept of time and space just existed until we, humans, are aware of and slightly understood this concept. Of course, it might seem like it is nothing special to gush about because the theories and topics written and incorporated in the novel do exist already and were (still is) highly debatable but how they applied it in the scenarios and arcs made my jaw drop and mind in a complicated mess. The connection from the very beginning, Chapter 1, until the very end, Chapter 551, was there. It was so subtle yet glaring at the same time. The play of words within the characters' names, occupations, and statuses were always emphasized throughout the book and yet it was the biggest clue (and the glaring truth) that readers weren't able to see and connect.

Third, "How can there be an end when there is no beginning?" I don't want to sp0il too much but
Spoiler

Yoo Jonghyuk, the "companion" of our MC's sole purpose for existing in this novel, is for the MC. People complaining that there aren't a lot of scenes that talk about the past of Yoo Jonghyuk etc, BUT have you ever stopped and thought of the question WHY? Why aren't there any scenes of Yoo Jonghyuk showcasing his past? Why can't he remember anything from his childhood? Who are his parents? Why did he have that Stigma? Who gave such Stigma? Why was he created? What was his sole purpose? What, or WHO, created him? Have you guys ever thought of that? Cause if you haven't then you have no right to criticize or hate on the book and its characters. Yoo Jonghyuk and Kim Dokja have no end and no beginning. They continue to exist for the sole purpose of existing. It is illogical yet logical all at the same time. Yoo Jonghyuk can't even remember his past, how much more for the authors who only wrote what needs to be written?

[collapse]

Last but not the least, Fourth. I hope that anyone who made it until the last chapter understood the whole point of why this book exists. It is to let us know that the world is vast and it has no concept of life and death. Treasure the people you love while enjoying the things you have. You cannot change the past, so make wise decisions. <<less

I also want to reread the story to pick out the details I love

but I probably will start crying if I read it again so I will wait.

one of the parts I loved:

pros

  • super cool set up and beginning
  • plot doesn't slow down, entertaining throughout
  • pretty good humour
  • solid fanbase
eh

  • MC KEEPS FREAKING SACRIFICING HIMSELF
  • a lot of shonen vibes later on (personally didn't really like this ;-;)
cons

  • I get that the point is to find "alternate solutions" to scenarios but some of them later on don't really make sense anymore (more plot armour...)
  • mc's treatment of his group...*
ok so this is probably an unpopular opinion but uhhhh sadly I didn't like this as much as I feel like I should have. I'm still giving this series a 4 though, mainly because I feel like my review of ORV was really biased compared to others, since I read this at the same time I was reading lord of the mysteries and rereading tr*sh of the counts family (too high standards rip). *because of this though (and I apologize in advance), I really couldn't help noticing the differences in attention that cale and dokja gives to their team. ig I just really wished that dokja would genuinely trust and reward his allies

Kim Dok-Ja ret*rd worst piece of sh*t who won't stay dead, author made life so cheap with 0 tension.

the use of coin is thrown away and hardly used, stats never even mention later and refuses to tell you the stats on any constellations.

... more>> every antagonist is ret*rded either die 1 hit even god tier or very lengthy drawn out and dumb.

the moment that scenarios is all about collecting stories (your body literally made up of stories, repair body with stories, inject body with stories) the plot goes downhill fast.

author uses probability garbage as deus ex machina to make up any bullsh*t he wants.

in the beginning I would give 4/5 and everything at scenario 10 and after 2/5. <<less
