I remember why I dropped this after re-reading up to chapter 14.

• The emotional logic is non-existent...
• There are numerous contradictions in characterisation...
• There is a lack of earned development...
• Lastly, an insensitivity towards loss...

I'm not bothered writing out dot points with examples otherwise I'll die of frustration reading this novel again.

I'll just leave it at this:

Despite the novel’s heavy emphasis on Leavitt's trauma and loss, there is a real disconnect between that and the romantic subplot. It comes across as emotionally disingenuous.

I have to wonder what the point of his backstory was for example? The contradiction between his inner monologue, outward behavior and backstory alone undermined not only Leavitt's integrity, but the story itself.

Reasons you should read this:

Shaghaf, The male lead is absolutely smitten with the MC. Obsessed. Like a lovesick, loyal puppy who would lay down his life just to be with him. It's the kind of devotion I love reading about.

I really enjoyed this one. The translation is smooth, the world-building is decent. It gives off omegaverse vibes with the whole "breeding season" dynamic. It's set in a dystopian world where aliens and humans coexist. I went in with low expectations but ended up super entertained.

"Your voice is the sweetest to my ears. You excite me, but you also make me feel at peace. I'm highly attuned to everything about you. 🥹🥹 He treats the MC like a treasure, and the smut? Good, consensual, and intense. The kind where you can just tell this man would lose his mind if anything ever happened to his person.

There is drama and heartbreak and danger of impending war, but I wont spoil those parts. But so far I'm obsessed, definitely worth to read.

MC is young man from Earth with EPS abilities who works as a mechanic. He is trauma haunted former child-soldier from Earth, currently living alone on some artificial garbage planet. As he was traumatised as young child and being left alone to fend for himself, he has no coping mechanism to support battling his trauma. As he lived his whole life alone, he also naturally lacks... more>> any experience in normal interactions with others, which only makes it hard for him to deal with someone like ML

ML is on the other side is one of leaders of the most evolved race in universe - Demetrions (they are humanoids so they look like humans, just build so much better and have white hair), who are technically warmongers. His meeting with MC is completely random, he neither supposed to be where MC was, nor he should be in state he was when he met MC. This leads to start of their relationship, which MC completely opposes, due to his hate towards Demetrions in general. But ML's persistent/needy-dog behaviour and MC's own trauma eventually lead to their relationship.

Those two are so fun to watch, ML's obsessiveness is just next level, which makes lot's of s*upid situations and makes MC questions if he is even normal at all.

The story so far was a rollercoaster of emotions and some second-hand embarrassment moments, MC and ML both know that their relationship will be short lived, therefore they agreed in advance to part on good terms. MC is also new to s*x since he is only 21 and he lived alone in the middle of nowhere since, and because of that he gets embarrassed a lot and question ML's sanity. <<less
