I believe it should be tagged as shounen only.. But ill will not stop you to imagine it haha like me.. Overall this novel are tiptop.. Try reading it ur self.

The existence of romance is subtle because it is not the focus. Even so I bet every guy he encounter, you will probably think he is the main lead. You are wrong! The real main lead is...

Secret, read and find out. Lmaoooo. I was too immersed on it and when I reached the end, my face was inscrutable. My guesses were off the markkk.

The ending was something for you to fill in the blanks. The one I liked the most are the nightmare rounds, they all have unique plots. I haven't seen something similar with the other Horror World Hopping. Man, we can't all have good things, can't we? I'm not too thrilled with the horror genre but almost all good plots were inside! What the heck! :<

Some of the executions, I'm not fond of but that's just because my preference gets in the way. <<less

Oh. My. God.

THAT WAS SUCH A FUN STORY TO READ!

I love how the protagonist really has a good balance between meddling in the 'human' affairs and being a melon eater!

... more>> I honestly didn't expect much but since I am a sucker for transmigration into npc type, this was such a fun ride.

And I just l o ve how the story ended! Even though, essentially, it is a closing of one story, it felt like I am reading the next one in the same time, leaving me im both fulfillment yet yearning for more! That was super duper awesome!!

And honestly, if you are looking for a very dedicated and centered romance BL, I'm sorry, you found the wrong book. But please do try this one out since this was such a pleasent thing to read! It has such a nice worldbuilding and plot! I didn't even realize I was done until I clicked the next button and it bring me into a homepage section of the books, haha! <<less

Good stuff but don't expect it to be yaoi lol. It's more like a bromance?? Like I think they could be gay (and I can sense that if this story is longer they'd be a couple) but even until the end the relationship didn't start. It was only mentioned briefly that they're partners (implied lovers) and that's it.

If you like the infinite flow genre then give this a go, but if you're searching for romance then don't lol. The main focus is the plot, story and action and the relationship... more>> of MC with his surroundings. Overall still a great read tho and other reviewers have also mentioned interesting points regarding the story itself. I feel like it deserves a higher rating but seeing it has little to none romance for a Shounen ai genre, I can understand why people rated it badly.

It in a way gives a similar feeling to bl adapted to dramas where the main CP turns into bromance where you kno they probs gay but like there's no actual romance going on lol.

Ending was rushed, I feel like it should've been longer but it was cut short because the author was sick I think. If it were longer, more things could be explored and the relationship would probs show more then what's available in this story currently. Overall still a decent read so I suggest in giving it a go.

Also regarding the romance, I feel like the ML probs like the MC first since he shows very very subtle signs of possesivenes for the MC. While MC is only shown to have a strange liking and feeling of ease with ML who is

Don't expect romance, seriously there's almost none of it. There's only subtle hints throughout, there's no progression- they're just together by the end somehow. <<less

I like it! I'd probably describe it as a passerby story. Dude (MC) came to buy soy sauce, got inconvenient by people who liked his face too much/screamed at him, watched them destroy themselves because of their hubris. Then went home all the while talking to his ghost umbrella boyfriend.

Although I think the exposition are a little tedious, you can just skim and get the gist if the pace feels like it's dragging on. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the supporting characters such as the dad etc.... more>> because the characters didn't have time to fully flesh them out- so sometimes it really does feel like they're one or two dimensional. It also... doesn't make you care as much, rather; interactions that can show you why the MC cares about these people. So it's like...

Spoiler

awkward smiles when the dad does something, when the gossip about his illegitimate children were never communicated, cleared up for any particular reason? Not even to his family nor the media, even though they're quite famous/reputable in the area? Nor was it explained to his only child whom he claims to care about and cherish? There was absolutely no communication on why such a thing happened?? The--- emotional and internal aspect of relationship dynamics are a little bit lacking when it's not about an antagonist who's gonna attack the MC. It seems very surface level, which might just? be what the author intended to demonstrate between these characters? considering the MC's disposition but? Still. Even if it's the MC's problem, on the dad part I'm not even sure what to think of him as a character.

[collapse]

I think all the quests are interesting, really fascinating and not at all typical. Really goes in-depth which I appreciated and couldn't stop reading! I wasn't really interested in the family aspect of the MC at the beginning, but it became interwoven to the story later so it's quite fine. Still, after all this I'd probably just tell new readers to expect more exposition bout the MC's background like, 50% of the story. I read a review that akin this to xxxHolic and honestly I agree, I kinda dig that. The MC isn't omnipotent or overpowered so you still feel a little rush everytime he might be in danger. But yeah! A good ride!!

Oh yeah, the romance. Honestly I think it's fine, I think the plot in this novel is about the world building. So literally I think this is the best choice, I'd rather the story flow naturally. i.e. MC learning about the world, the people in it/those who interacts with them, the difference between worlds etc. It makes sense not to force/push the romance so the ML would protect him unnecessarily all the time. Romance isn't the focus here, but rather a bonus. It has that very light shounen ai, it's undeniable, but still very much focus on other things as the plot. Which I enjoy and like quite alot!

Spoiler

The part about Dawn Organization makes me think of the dangers of mlm. Pyramid schemes in the story as part of the plot/moral of the story is quite interesting?

I don't like shounen Ai and even active filter it. Actually, I don't like any romance at all not even harem.

But there's no such thing here. There's a bromance but not a love interest. It's like kuroshitsuji no ML no romance. Just some love between characters.

It's worth the read. I'm sad with the rushed ending but it was great.

You should read.

This review is only for those who dislike romantic affairs and maybe hesitate to read this good novel.

Thank you!

Spoiler

The ending was really rushed and vague, we never got to see the relationship between the ML and MC. Even up to the last chapter, there's a feeling that they haven't gotten together yet, or rather the ML hasn't confessed. I mean, I don't dislike stories that don't focus on romance, but I do feel bitter that it seems that their relationship progressed conpletely after the story ended, and we're just suppose to accept that. They clearly weren't together in the last chapter. The only hints of their relationship is the ML showing hints of liking/lusting after the MC, BUT EVERY CHARACTER WAS DESCRIBED AS LUSTING AFTER THE MC. Even his cousin, adopted brother, and random male a, b, c, d, e!!! We never see the MC being interested romantically in anyone, much less the ML. The MC is only shown as being curious of the ML's background etc. Is MC concerned for ML? Yes. Does he regard him highly? Yes. Does he like him romantically? Not really? No hints at all from Mc's side. The most we get is MC being concerened and ask "If you could choose, why did you decide to stay in An Yu Yi Yu? "

"At first, it was because I was curious, but afterwards...."

Then end scene. What. I mean, you could argue some romantic hints, but really, it can just as well be seen as mere curiousity.

The only description of them being together is "they will always be together, one on the right and the other on the left", in the extra chapter, by a thrid party narrator. >: (

I mean, at least have ONE extra chapter showing how they got together cause what is shown of their relationship doesn't feel romantic at all. Or rather, it's difficult believing that MC will even fall in love with ML. It feels like those novels where the MC just randomly marries a random girl in a group after the story ended without a single hint of the MC even liking her. It feels weird. Really weird.

I gave it 4 stars because I still really enjoyed the whole story minus the last 5 chapters. The last couple of chapters made me feel like the author just randomly decide to end it.

The plot holes are numerous. I'm upset that there was hardly any interaction between the MC and his family. The dad, he never personally had a one on one with the MC, the most he shows is a weird almost fake interest in his son and then the scene where he gives MC his mom's diary. Thats it. He didnt even bothered to clear up the misunderstanding of him having illegitimatd daughters. Mc's ADOPTED BROTHER HAD TO EXPLAIN. Like the dad rather have his adopted son know then clear it up wuth MC. The adopted bro also knew about the Nightmare world and the MC's mom, how? Why? When? Nothing is explained. His dad also seemed disinterested when he found out that HIS OWN SON was involved in something dangerous. His reaction was pretty much "your mom has shown me weirder when I was with her." What. His adopted bro had to occasionally bridge the terrible lack of communication between them!! Honestly it feels like the adopted bro and the dad was in a "better" relationship at this point. What "better" means, I suddenly realised that that would make some sense and the thought is terryfying me. If they were in a "relationship"... the attitude of the dad... makes some terryfying sense.... im going to stop thinking of this conspiracy now.

Although, on chapter 158, the author did explain why she chose to end it.

1) The main content of the story has already been conveyed

2) She's ill.

Ok, so it's a decent novel overall, and the mtl isn't confusing as heck like some other novels, but there's like absolutely no romance. The ending also seemed extremely rushed, like the author just wanted to get the story done. Like, 10 year time skip? Wth? I like the Nightmare World arcs, but I would like the novel better if there was more focus on Ayuyuyu and romance.

Overall, it was an interesting story. I finished reading this story. While the MTL'ed version is easy to understand, if you want to fully immerse yourself in the ghost stories, I recommend waiting for the translation.

Good points

- The shop and the ghost employees

... more>> - MC is calm, he's not trying to save everyone (he's actually pretty wary of everyone) but he still has empathy and will try to help other humans and ghosts if he can. It's satisfying to see him solve mysteries and face slap some people along the way

- The nightmare world. While done before, I think the way they explained it is interesting. You get more information about how it came to be by the end of the story. I liked the various nightmare missions and the ways to solve them. The horror parts had nice details as well.

Bad points

- Ending is extremely rushed. It really feels like the story is cut in the middle and they slapped a ending on it. The 10 years time skip feels like a joke..

- There's no romance. If you start reading this story expecting any kind of romantic relationship, you'll be very disappointed. The ML is more like a loyal protector and a friend to the MC. There's no mention of romantic feelings until a few vague lines in the last chapter and even then it could be interpreted just as friendship.

I would recommend this story if you like horror novels, ghosts and shop management. If you're here solely for the romance, it's not the story for you. <<less

This was really interesting, so much so that I stuck with it the entire time. I did have one problem though. The MC didn't have a ML. Yes, I definitely ship the MC and the ghost umbrella but nothing ever happens. And the last chapter is so sad! It's a HE, but at the same time you want to start sobbing.

It was a good story. I rounded it up from 3.5 stars to 4. I thought the premise was very interesting where the MC had the conscious choice of acting like a player or an NPC. I liked the world building and the hints to the mystery.

The problems I had:

The ability of the MC, I felt, was not explored enough.

I felt the pacing was good until it started nearing the end, like what most of the reviewers had said.... more>>
Spoiler

It quickly went to the very last "nightmare game" and discovered the truth of the world, fought for the world and no other context was provided. The supposed CP is just talked about in the last chapter, they both don't age or change in appearance. In fact, I don't know if the MC is a ghost now or something. Its just stated that his appearance didn't change for TEN YEARS?? I wish they expanded and put more arcs and games in. I feel it would be funnier if the MC kept opening his store to actual players, but in reality, he only sold items to nightmare game players like on 3 occasions, that setting bad potential but it was wasted.

[collapse]

Another problem? The "romance." There are suggestions of their "blooming love" but they're hardly hints. In fact, there seemed to be opportunities for the two to misunderstand each other's feelings (like "oh I'm feeling the power of friendship!) But it was never used fully. Even in the end, they're just together with no actual build up to their relationship and a sentence that confirms it. If I had to count the number of times either of them showed interest in each other, it would be LOWER THAN TEN.

I wouldn't put this in a shounen ai or boys love cause I was somewhat forced to imagine that they were definitely in love with each other due to the lack of description from the author. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the CP's dynamic, but there's hardly even a clue that they're romantically involved, just the occasional "oh why are you helping me" or "HIS EAR WAS ITCHHHY WHEN THE OTHER TALKED IN IT."

Other than that, I did enjoy the story. The last part was extremely rushed, romance was enjoyable but hardly there and I wish I got to see more of the store. <<less

It felt hella rushed with an extremely unclear ending. Like, what the hell is: "The fight against the nightmare world lasted for 10 years"?!

So many questions were left unexplained and honestly, it was very, very confusing.

However, I still enjoyed this novel very much (bonus points on the horror genre) and I love the unique concept of the store owner.

I'm honestly not even sure if these two got together in the end because all it said was that they were lifelong companions, ect. There was honestly next to no hint of... more>> romance and it seemed kind of abrupt? The ML showed minimal romantic interest towards the MC and truthfully, it was the same with the MC himself.

It was more focused on the plot and I did like how numerous female characters actually had a non villainous role to play in this novel.

The ending, unfortunately, was so unclear that we don't even know if they achieved world peace in the end, as it finished off in the middle of the war between the ghosts and humans..?! I also didn't like how it was all stuffed into the last chapter but, oh well! I enjoyed the story~ <<less

There is not romance in this novel, only a small mention if it (although I have only read until chapter 65, I skipped to the end and the MC and ML are said to be lovers but only that, the end is kind of a open ending), the only thing good about this novel is the MC character and the horror games.

Spoiler

MC isn't really a player, he's a special existence in the nightmare world: a shopkeeper. As far as we know, he's the only human shopkeeper. There is someone who seeks tools in exchange for souls, but that entity is a ghost.

[collapse]

All of the arcs were interesting! I'm just a little disappointed that the ending felt rushed. It feels like the plot would have benefited from getting 5-10 more chapters.

Spoiler

My favorite atcwould probably be one of the final worlds, where MC uses a ghost tool to take the form of a child. In that world, their task was to protect a pair of unlucky siblings for a whole day. The players thought it would be easy, but the siblings kept dying for ridiculous reasons. The world resettled every time any of the siblings died. A truck came at them, a thief stabbed them, the brother choked on food, the sister tripped and her head fell on a nail...I liked the comedic timing of the arc. Everytime they died, the siblings' souls would leave their body for a second and make an exasperated expression like "welp, guess this is how things are mean to end 🤷‍♀️"

The real mystery behind the ghost who created that world was interesting. The nightmare world's arcs are actually connected to the real world. Basically, the crimes or tragedies that led to the ghosts' deaths are real. However, their "haunting" is fictional. Due to their resentment, they create an illusion world that the players then become trapped in. I'm a little disappointed since this arc doesn't have a "follow-up", unlike my second favorite arc.

[collapse]

Spoiler

My second favorite arc happened in the middle. The story starts with the MC in an apartment's bathroom. When he leaves and goes into the living room, he meets three players. They're already spooked since there were two women in the balcony. I won't spoil much more, but one of those women is definitely not normal 🤭🤭🤭

I love this arc because it gave us one of the MC's permanent ghost helpers. Also, it's one of the first arcs to really spill over into the real world. I felt so bad for Miss Ghost. She could torment the players all she wanted, but in reality, the people who caused her death were living well. The MC helped her get revenge, but she hasn't passed on yet. It will still take time for her resentment to abate + she wants to stay in MC's store and help him.

[collapse]

There's not really much romance. I found out who the ML was through reading spoilers, but without that it's hard to guess since multiple people are attracted to MC. Our MC is not only smart and skilled, he's also a big beauty. He's like a flower that attracts a lot of bees.

Spoiler

The little bits of sugar are very sweet, though there are only a handful of them throughout the story. The MC and ML (it's the Umbrella Ghost) grow to trust and care for each other throughout the arcs, but their interactions can be chalked up as friendship or the appreciation talented people have for each other. I wish their romance was more fleshed out, but I also appreciate how the author focused on the nightmare world itself.

[collapse]

Spoiler

MC's mother felt very interesting. I hope we could have learned more about the normal life she led with MC and the MC's dad. I usually don't like flashbacks, but I would have really appreciated seeing the MC's memories with her. The MC's mother was actually the original owner of the shop. She came from another world, one that was taken over by ghosts of the Nightmare World. When she came to the MC's world and met his dad, she settled down and happily lived a normal life. However, the ghosts from her original world tracked her down and targeted her family. She actually had magical flowers that could save someone from death and extend her life, but using those flowers will eventually weaken the body. She eventually consumed them so much that her body couldn't hold up anymore. She did leave a lot of those flowers for MC, but due to the ghosts' attacks, he eventually consumed them all by the time he was 16. His mother had one last trick to save him: if he ever died before he turns a certain age, his soul would be tied to the shop. His mother didn't want her son to be tied to the awful nightmare world, but I guess she really wanted him to live a long life. Although being the shopkeeper is dangerous, it isn't as bad as being an ordinary player.

If you like a plot centered story in an unlimited flow setting you'll definitely like this one. Much as I like reading shounen-ai I didn't feel like I was missing out at all not coming across it I was enjoying the story too much. There are definitely hints towards the end, some may feel the ending is rushed but to me it's an open ending and fits the story. For such a great story I choose to trust the vision of the author.

OOOF, I avoided this novel the whole time because it seemed a bit whimsical for a survival novel LOL. I turned out to be completely wrong! Although the novel does have a bit of whimsy to it, the survival instances are very detailed, and the overall plot development is well-structured. As some people have said, the ending is a bit rushed. But it's not so rushed that it isn't satisfying. The author did a pretty good job tying up all the loose ends so that the story can be enjoyed... more>> as it despite the rushed ending.

Summary: The MC (Su Zimo) has been stuck in his own paralyzed body for almost four years. During these four years, he's been tortured unimaginably by the fact that he was incapable of doing anything. Just when it was about the end, however, he finds himself waking up in a small shop called An Yu Yi Yu. This shop leads to a world called the Nightmare World --- which is a world where people from his world are being dragged into regularly to complete tasks. In order to get inventory for his shop, he has to visit all these worlds without the identity of a trainer (name for people doing tasks) and solve the mysteries along with everyone.

All in all, it's a really good read! I highly recommend it! The novel does indeed have its shortcomings, like the romance --- it really should be called 'Shounen Ai' because there's really not much progression even until the end. Not even a sign of the two being anything more than fond of each other. At least, not on the MC's end. So, if you're looking for romance, this novel definitely isn't the place to go! Otherwise, the TL is good so there should be nothing to stop you from reading now if you wanted.

CHARACTERS: 7.5/10

In the end, I do feel that the rushed ending kind of disturbed the character development a bit. But, regardless, I still like the characters of this novel. They were lots of fun!

Su Zimo (MC)

The MC, Su Zimo, is a rich second generation with very beautiful features. This, along with his introverted personality made him a bit out of reach for most people. After getting a second lease in life by becoming the owner of the An Yu Yi Yu shop, he livens up a bit, but his general character can still be considered quite 'unromantic'.

Black Umbrella (ML)

The ML is a ghost that accompanies the MC throughout the novel, protecting him along the way, giving advice along the way, etc. XD One can say that he's a very excellent plug-in for the MC who shows very little attack power.

ROMANCE: ---

Because the novel doesn't really focus on romance, and the pairing is more of a "blink and you might miss it" pairing, I decided not to give it a rating. Just to be fair. But, if I were able to give it a rating, it would be in the low 3-4s. After all, there really is no sign of any romantic progression, just a little teasing from the ML's side that doesn't go anywhere.

SETTING: 9.5/10

I love the setting most in this story! The An Yu Yi Yu shop kind of reminds me of xxxHolic too (which was one of my ult. Faves when I was younger). It's like a shop that grants wishes, though those wishes come in the form of props (or ghost tools, as they're called here). The development of the setting was cut off rather roughly at some point tho XD like, the author even spelled out that upgrading the shop would be useless. Which bummed me out a bit. But, hey! It was already pretty interesting as it was. I'm just hoping someone comes around to expand on the idea sometime.

PLOT: 9/10

If you don't enjoy horror instances, then this novel may not be for you. It's not really scary, like most of what's scary is left in dialogue and exposition. But it's certain a bit creepy at times and may make it difficult for you to sleep at night lol. Outside of the instances, there's a very complex plot behind the An Yu Yi Yu shop, the nightmare world, etc. It's a bit crudely explained at the end, but its all there.

RATING: 4.33/5

If this novel had been finished, I think this would have definitely been a favorite for me. I really enjoyed the setting and the instances were done pretty well too. It's just that the overarching plot was indeed squished a bit at the end there. Plus, the romance also didn't go anywhere. I still like the novel a lot, don't get me wrong! But, yeah. It was just a liiiiitle short of rounding up to a five stars for me. <<less
