I might be judging this a little early, but this novel isn't that... great.

The only plus I can find is its mild world-building and theme. And that's barely there, to be honest. Aside from the idea of being able to summon personalized mechs, there's not much here.

Starting with the main character, Chen Yi, he was originally a 30ish man who liked Ultraman. But then get's isekai'd for no reason into a younger version of himself in a parallel universe where aliens have started invading Earth. He is enrolled into a... more>> mech training academy to become a defender of the planet. He lives with his mom who died in his original lifetime so he swears to protect her now. He's pretty typical family-first type of character. Though, he does have weird physical attributes since he studied kung fu a lot in his previous lifetime, which is useful in this one. Everyone is amazed by how skillfully he is able to fight. Though... he did this gravity training thing and can handle 20x gravity without breaking a sweat. Maybe that's the influence of being Ultraman though.

Now for the world building. In this world, humans are more technologically developed and made use of an alien technology they call the 'Mother Core' to create mechs. These mechs are divided into different ranks from C to SSS. MC starts with a C Class mech but his skill let's him fight against an A Class mech piloted by a veteran no problem. Mech's are weird since they are divided into different types, heights, and weight classes to. But the author barely goes into them besides saying that Speed-types are rare. Barely any actual information is stated about their capabilities, cause the MC pretty much makes Class pointless since he can constantly fight above his class and defeated his classmate that pilots an SS Class mech.

Literally... the mech summoning gimmick is the only thing worth giving this novel anything better than a one-star. The writing is subpar and random fights and alien attacks literally happen every 2-3 chapters, forcing the MC to fight. The MC can turn into Ultraman Leo when things get bad, and everyone thinks Leo is just a weird red mech. I say this with respect to Ultraman, but adding Ultraman to this story was unnecessary to say the least. It's practially just a cheat second mech that the MC hides as a secret identity to take down his foes.

Then there's the Mechanical God Cult that just appears, commits terrorism, gets beat up, and continues to reappear as a villainous organization that has harmed humanity. But no information is given about them. Aside from how they can control monsters and have been stealing mechs that apparently can be piloted by other people, despite being personal mechs of specific people. Practially nothing about their ideology that made them betray humanity.

A really annoying plot twist for me was the identity of the MC's mom. Apparently, she's a bigshot super researcher who studied the Mother Core and gave the MC an experimental upgrade to his mech turning it into a fully sentient machine capable of turning to liquid nanomachines. Now, the mech can turn into a body double of the MC, the MC's training partner, or his suit of armor. Aside from being a mech. I don't know why, it threw me off when I read it. <<less
