Twenty-three years old.

I had just completed my military service and was on a bus home when I fell asleep and was involved in a car accident.

“Damn it.”

And then I was reincarnated.

But what the hell did I do to deserve being reincarnated as a demon?

“Save the human.”

But they want me to be a Demon King?

Translation seems decent, good work, TL, and my hat’s off to your patience.

this MC might as well be a whiny crybaby 10yo boy instead of a reincarnated sergeant. Can’t stand him and his exclamation points every 1-4 sentences. The only two background characters as of how far I’ve read could be fine and do raise my curiosity, but I just can’t with this annoying MC. Luke Skywalker wanting to go to the mallToshi Station’s got nothin’ on this.

maybe other readers think it’s funny and maybe it’s hilarious in the original... more>> Korean but I just cannot. <<less

So far this is a fairly mid-tier novel for me. I like the setting and sub-characters that have been introduced so far, but the MC is just so insufferably whiny. It's seriously annoying.
Spoiler

It seems there's some sort of tradition where periodically, each big family in hell has to send one of their own to the human world as some sort of ritual, and while MC is a non-contributing weakling POS, he's still of a high class breed so it was decided that he would be the sacrifice this time around. As soon as he was informed of this, MC started weeping and begging to get out of it. Like bro, you don't even know what the human realm is like. At the very least, if you stop to think about it for half a second, his chances as a former human with human-like sensibilities would be better than how he's been doing in the demon realm (not well). Anyway, from that point onwards, any time MC runs into a demon that doesn't treat him with disdain for his extreme weakness (there have only been 2 so far excluding his mother that informed him about his upcoming vacation), he immediately starts crying and clinging to their ankles in an attempt to garner sympathy, begging them to save him.

[collapse]

I understand that the demon realm stuff most likely functions as a sort of prologue before the human realm stuff makes up the meat of the story and it's very possible that it gets better from that point onwards, but the MC's obnoxiousness is making getting to that point very difficult.

Very good, much better than I expected. The reviews below are a bit misleading and quite biased... as most novelupdates readers do, if you can't ignore your moral values, then you shouldn't even read fantasy stories. I'm not going to say the good points, but rather counter the negative points found in the other comments. This is another world with another culture, people from 300 years ago at 20 years old could very well be the equivalent of a 10 year old child in the 21st century in terms of... more>> mentality, besides the girls the MC gets involved with are monsters, they're not even "people", unless you see them as humans everything will work out, basically a female meets a male and they copulate and that's it, they're not human and that doesn't seem like pe*ophelia after all, it's more like two teenagers getting along well getting to know each other and going to make snu snu, in short two female to male animals meet and feel attracted to each other and that was basically it, it's a serious mistake to see them as humans, just enjoy it damn it. MC is a child, the common sense of the earth and the demonic world is so different that in fact he could actually be a child since his mentality is very human, and he only learns to speak at the age of 8, becoming fluent at 9 years without any help, that's why it took him so long, his mother sends him to the human world because he is very weak and she doesn't want to sacrifice the strongest, a detail that he is not yet 10 years old and has only recently learned to speak, so sending him to the human world is the same as sending him to his death, the story is very good from then on. <<less

Warning: This novel has strong themes of r*pe and corruption, all perpetrated by the MC. Most/all of his female underlings he will have s*xual relationships with, and many of the latter are so called "monsters, " that have the intellect of children despite being in their adult forms. Do not read if you expect a MC to respect notions of consent or s*xual exclusivity; he sleeps with whomever he wants whenever he wants, a freedom not granted to the women of his harem (who also suffer from a bit of... more>> brainwashing from his corrupting influence and "Womb Tattoos." While he never purposefully hurts or harms his women, even for disobedience, and makes sure that is always extremely pleasurable for them, you should still not read this if these are unacceptable to you.

I'll spare you a full summary, but at the beginning of the story the protagonist is described as a weak demon derided by his peers who's sent to the Middle Realm (Lower Realm = Hell, abode of demons; Middle Realm = Earth, the world of humans, monsters and other humanoid species; Upper Realm = Heaven, dominion of angels). Being truly very weak and showcasing no particular powers at first, he's seen as disposable, and will essentially spend the first arc whining and worrying about dying, begging his relatives for help. He's a pretty simple minded individual too, in a way very pure hearted. Then he arrives in the Middle realm in a secluded backwater forested region where he recruits initially very weak monsters using his demonic abilities, and gradually grows much stronger along with his own forces, as he slowly makes contact with races from beyond the forest.

Some key points of interest:

  1. He shows no hesitation towards mu*der. Incoming force of soldiery or innocent travelers, he shows the same willingness to kill them all (though it's very likely that he'll spare any beautiful women whom he'll then doubtless ravish and corrupt with his mana till they become obedient). To date he's not so much bloodthirsty as merciless and cognizant of how weak he currently is; to allow any humans to escape would spell death as soon as they call for a more sizeable armed contingent, and because he can't fully conceal his forces, any persons trying to investigate the forest for signs of unusual activity cannot be left alive (at one point seeing a well trained squad arriving in the forest he can't defeat he tricks them instead into believing that orcs instead were the culprits behind previous disappearances.
  2. He loves his minions. As a demon of noble heritage he is capable of subordinating weak monsters, to whom he then often gives pet names as well as caring for them as best as he is able (referring to his own growing army as his family). He tries to keep them safe and happy, and whenever he himself grows stronger and acquires new powers will excitedly show them to the rest of his "family" who will congratulate him happily, and vice-versa. Among his powers is the ability to "enhance" his own subordinates, making them into stronger beings; he spends much of his time doing this daily, basically spending all his non-s*x time on consolidating his forces.
  3. The r*pe. Oh boy. There's a lot of it. While many of his women he lies with do so consensually and enthusiastically, he captures the women he defeats and essentially r*pes them into submission, as s*x with him is always extremely pleasurable (he's not a sad*st in the least, and doesn't seem to enjoy inflicting pain at all) due to his incubus-like powers. Thanks to the above and his corruptive magical abilities, gradually any prisoners he acquires grow truly loyal to him, in part also because of how well he treats them. Expect the women he sleeps with to quickly become addicted to sex/m*sturbation due to womb tattoos and incubic s*xual prowess. That said, it's still a straight-male power fantasy; many/most of the women he lies with are virg*ns, and it seems they'll only ever have s*x with him. His male subordinates also seem to lose their libido.
  4. The whininess really only happens at the start, he quickly becomes more confident in himself as his strength grows and later develops plans to conquer the Middle Realm (just a dream at the current stage). Being something very similar to an incubus (but stronger), s*x actually empowers him, and we're just scratching the very surface of his potential as of currently translated chapters.
  5. There's no clear plan for now, currently the MC is in a reactive position, focusing on getting stronger and defeating enemies when they appear, with no real plan for the future except for a vague desire to eventually dominate the Middle Realm. There's a war between angels and demons to take over the Middle Realm going on in the background, and it's very likely he'll later become a significant force in the conflict, but for now times are bright and relaxed.
Overall, I strongly recommend this story (you may have to speedread through the first arc in Hell) for people looking for a power fantasy filled with s*x, with a protagonist with essentially no morals but no sadism either (quite the opposite). <<less

Rough start, but once you make it to the part where the MC is forced out of the demon world, the story starts to take off.

Nothing special, but I’m a sucker for any decent survival story. Sure the magic cheapens the accomplishment, but it’s used to speed up the pacing rather than *boom* watch a house appear. I also think a smaller cast helps bad writers really excel and focus on developing the plot and the characters.

Some ecchi parts, but I’m optimistic that the plot with carry this story.

MC is soy and pathetic. Hes supposed to be an adult who survived the korean military training, and yet it took him 9 years to finally learn how to speak demon language? And even 10 years after reincarnating he is still weak and hopeless. 10 YEARS. His mother and family treated him worse than garbage and yet he pathetically begged and whined while crying like a little soyboy to them to not send him to be sacrificed, like a little child throwing a tantrum and having a meltdown. Let me... more>> remind you again that this is a fully grown and developed adult who survived the korean military training.

People said that it will get better later on. Its only sh*t in the beginning. But how much sh*t am I going to be forced to eat before I eat the good stuff? Why should I endure eating sh*t? Why dont the author make the beginning bearable like a normal story author instead of forcing us to read sh*t? Has it ever occured to other readers that maybe the author wrote like sh*t because he/she has sh*t writing talent? Who cares about how good the novel will be if people literally lose motivation after reading the pathetic beginning chapters. What a waste of my time and mental health this novel is. <<less

This story is so funny (and wholesome later) that I have to log account to write comment. All 20 chaps beginning is kinda sus and slow pace so yeah, dont bother much with it. After that the story is slowly getting good and you know, "teach your wife since she is young" thing is 1 of my fav of all time. Thanks tran + edit for this story.

Psst: my advice: just take your brain of when read those begining chapters.

Advice: If you want to start reading this. Skip first 14 chapters. These are... Let's just say annoying as heck to read because of MC. However this all changes after chapter 15 (where most should start reading this in my opinion at least).

And if you want to read the start... Then you can always go back and re-read first 14 chapters later.

Power progression of MC isn't op from the start which is nice for a change. And MC grows in power bit by bit which is also somewhat nice.

Why 1... more>> star instead of 4? Because at around chapter 246 MC starts using tent**les bs for smut bits and not just battle that's a huge no... So if you are into that bs go for it. Till that part it was worth 4 stars tbh...

Last edit (for good now) from chapter 250-291. Tentacle bs still happens. Another good smut series ruined by author's weird tastes. Which forces on it's readers. Guess it's time to search for a new one.

P.s added tent**les tag to warn others who also hate that bs. No idea why it wasn't here to begin with... <<less

Content Warning: Read the tags. Yes, there is non-con content. It's all done by the MC.

Also unfortunately, while the seggs scenes are great, they don't happen all that frequently. Heck, MC doesn't get to a home run until 100 or so chapters in.

Also, also, the author has an annoying habit of skipping seggs scenes. Like, for example, in chapter 120+ ... more>>
Spoiler

the MC has captured two nuns and a female knight into his dungeon, and the MC is shown to sexually assault the knight and one nun, BUT ANNOYINGLY SKIPS THE OTHER NUN!!!

[collapse]

So anyway! The story has quite a rough start. And I'm not just talking about the 14 chapters we spend in the demon world where MC basically has a pity party for his transmigration not coming with a knowledge package. I mean, he isn't idle. He does his best to understand an unknown language and magic despite having no talent for it, but the author displayed just how poorly he is perceived by the other demons because he is "weak." And after all that, we spend another 15 or so chapters where MC does hardcore survival; he digs a pit for a home, scavenges fruit, gets his first followers, hunts some goblins and kobold, gets invaded by some monsters, etc.

Personally, I say you can skim everything until best girl, Sharan (a dryad), starts following him out of curiosity. That's when the story finally gets some speed. She gets introduced at chapter 25, but there's a few more chapters before she officially joins their group.

The annoying thing is, now that I'm thinking about it, the author made it so that the MC gets the quickest and largest power ups by having seggs. But the thing is, we spent 100 chapters dicking around in the forest before he starts having consensual seggs with his followers. So honestly! The plot doesn't get any steam until then! I mean, there's a war between demon world and heaven going on, which feels like it should be the MAIN plot, but no! That's in the background up until the MC finally figures out his cheat.

Don't get me wrong. It's a good read, and the flow of the story/translation reads smoothly. I recommend just getting a text-to-speech app and have it playing on the background while doing something else like playing video games, driving, commuting, etc. Eventually, the story will get you hooked enough that you'd want to readit yourself without the app.

I personally rate this 4/5 stars-ish. The reason I gave it a 5/5 is, if you pay attention, there seems to be a dedicated group or shizo that's giving harem stories a 1/5 rating. <<less

Judging from the other reviews, im not alone in struggling to get through the early chapters. This story reads like a jp novel from the 2010s. the MC talks to himself and his animal/monster companions communicate back in onomatopoeia and body language. The seriess has an [adult] tag but the adult content is extremely lacking. Most of the early story is slow, slice of live survival in the jungle. But judging by the tags.... things must get rather crazy later on.

but maybe thats the theme the author is going for.... more>> The MC reincarnates as a demon and his past life memories actually hamper his development rather than aid him in his rise. being unable to communicate with others seems to be a big theme in this story. He has to learn from scratch and is often plagued by misunderstandings due to his previous life's memories. It makes him come off as a little unhinged and out of place. a true 'fish out of water' story. <<less

It's insane how low the rating for this novel is considering this site's standards. Every negative review is harping on how annoying the MC is at the beginning, and it's true, but that attitude is an integral part of the story telling. He becomes more formidable and confident throughout the story.

I think the complaints show how inundated web novel readers are with s*upidly competent MCs. A lot of MCs go through the story as if they're omnipotent and know exactly what the right decision is at all time. This story... more>> isn't like that. MC goes from being a whiny wimp, to an endearing goof, then a legitimate leader.

If you like progression fantasy with some world building then you'll probably enjoy this, just power through the first 20ish chapters if you find it annoying; the story gets better as it goes. <<less

I give it 3 stars. From the beginning it started out slow and easy to read. MC was likeable and smart.
Spoiler

I just don't like how s*xual it gets with every female character. They're beautiful, busty and have the intelligence of a 4 yr old. They may be female monsters but the male lead won't have s*x with them because of their pure innocence. Doesn't stop himself from doing other things to them.

So, having caught up with the free, translated releases as of writing this review, here's my overall thoughts.

First off: Skip the first 20 or so chapters until Karuti is introduced. Literally every single thing that happens prior to Karuti is unimportant, MC is absolutely insufferable during the prologue, and you will be tempted to drop the series if you actually try to read it. Literally just ctrl+F search Karuti until you find her. - The events from that point on are actually kind of important, especially later on, and Karuti... more>> is pretty much the only really relevant recurring character from the demon realm up to the point I'm at. A certain other character is referenced occasionally with scenes from their PoV, but honestly, it barely matters, and honestly more-so just serves as an excuse to include milf solo scenes. Plus like 90% of their scenes are after the introduction of Karuti anyway.

So, with that out of the way, let's go over the various things.

Translation is actually pretty good. I will say there's a few points where I think it could be better, as Korean doesn't literally translate into English that well, and thus we get some very odd sentences occasionally, mainly with MC praising his subordinates. But overall, 9/10 on the translation work so far IMHO. It reads quite well, though there's a few typos in the most recent chapters.

Content: Well, the MC is, uh, I guess this is technically a spoiler so...
Spoiler

Literally an Incubus, so the series has a LOT of s*x.

[collapse]
However, despite the heavy amount of s*x scenes, it's actually got a surprisingly decent fantasy isekai world domination storyline going on, that's honestly very reminiscent of Re:Monster. Just... if the focus of Re:Monster was almost entirely s*x.

There's a LOT of "technically non-consensual" content, though I say this because in all honesty, if you actually pay close enough attention, MC really only truly forces like, 4 or 5 out of the 40-50 girls he has so far. Bro also 100% brainwashes everyone successfully. To kind of ridiculous extents at times.

There's also very heavy foreshadowing of likely in*estuous relations between MC and both his sister and mother in the future, however it hasn't actually happened yet. I also say "in*estuous" but... it's honestly seriously questionable if they're even actually genetically related, especially him and his siblings. They also don't have any form of prior relationship. And considering all of this and the fact MC's been isekai'd into this body... I'd honestly say it barely even counts even if it does happen.

s*x scene quality I'd say is like, 3/5. It's nowhere near the best I've read, though it gets better as the series goes on, and it's notably better than some 18+ fanfics and whatnot I've read in the past.

I'd put the overall writing at like, 6-7/10. It's decent, but nowhere near a literary masterpiece. But at the same time, I've read a LOT worse.

The majority of the characters are actually surprisingly well thought out and written, though one other review IS correct on the fact a lot of the early monsters are very... simplistic and naive, especially initially. The 2 that
Spoiler

basically function as MC's wives

[collapse]
do seemingly get more intelligent and capable as the series goes on though, and a lot of later characters are easily on-par with humans, and have a lot more depth to them and whatnot. The human characters are actually surprisingly more fleshed out and deeper than I expected them to be, considering the nature of this series.

However... there's one big asterisk on "characters are well written and thought out." And that is... this is true, AFTER they join MC. So far, all but like 4 characters, prior to joining MC, were absolutely insane and insufferable. Like, to the point I genuinely don't know how some of these people even managed to survive up until they met MC.

My biggest complaint of this series so far... is actually something that's probably going to sound very strange. And that is... the existence of the main storyline. Seriously, nearly every issue the series has, is almost directly tied to the main storyline. And pretty much the only point of it so far is to force the MC to not just turtle in his dungeon having s*x for the entire story. Which is like... the entire point of the series so far, so... yeah. It's like, 60% MC having s*x, 30% MC expanding his dungeon and conquering new species to add to his subordinates and harem, and then 10% "Oh, right, there's this demon vs angel storyline, go do something about it.". Oh, and like 2%
Spoiler

Re:Monster if the MC was an incubus instead of an ogre and thus focused entirely on s*x instead of it just being a notable part of the story, and yet was also infertile

, and honestly? It's actually surprisingly good story-wise for a blatantly sex-focused story. Like, not gonna lie, I actually read the last like 80 chapters I had left in one sitting because it was actually a surprisingly good read. There's definitely better stuff out there, both story-wise and "content"-wise, but you can also do a lot worse, so if you're not turned off by the... R stuff, I'd honestly say it's worth a read if you're interested. Just, again... skip the first like 80-90% of the prologue.

Also be aware that female design is pretty much relegated to "Big b**bs". - There isn't a single character so far that's been described as having anything less. To the point the series is self-aware of it with the MC occasionally noting "Is there something about mana and divine power that makes women grow better figures?". <<less
