No reviews and a vague synopsis so here I am. It's basically a gamemaster and players story with a smaller scale than is typical of the genre. Think D&D group, not MMO.

Our protagonist has become a demon. Rather than looking to trick people out of their souls however his motivation is to satisfy people's deep and fervent desires to obtain their "wish energy." As a demon he is sustained by this energy and without it he will die. He can also use this energy to do all sorts of supernatural... more>> things. Upon becoming a demon he additionally gained the ability to pass between his native Earth and a new world with a soft steampunk setting and mysterious divinities. A lot of the native wish power he desires is controlled or under the influence of unknown entities more powerful than him so he has to gather his wish energy at a pretty small scale and grassroots level by solving people's problems.

On Earth he has also essentially gained super hacker powers and uses them to invite a very small handful of individuals to play what to them is a VR game but is actually transporting them to this other world to accomplish his goals to get wish power. The plot is a good balance between our protagonist's endeavors and the "players" experiences, both on and off Earth. This isn't an mmo with lots people acting bizarrely while interacting with the locals; it's played straight to the players and they are taking it seriously and acting accordingly. On Earth there are people investigating his game and he has run into an angel so it's not just episodic adventures there is an overarching plot with multiple things going on. So far the otherworld adventures have all taken place in one rather standard city but there's been tantalizing hints of more interesting aspects of the world such as divine messengers, the oddly unhelpful gods, and a mysterious fog on the edges of civilization as well as a heretical group that worship it. Gravity Tales translation is pretty solid. There's the occasional typo or mistake but I don't have any real complaints. <<less

The initial ~35 chapters are 10/10. But after the introduction of "angels", the story begins to falter.

The angel is a 16-year-old who is suddenly made a bodyguard of the MC. Her personality is annoying and detracts from the story since since she is able to enter the other world. Her whole thing is justice, plus the cliche pouting and being flustered all the time. In the current chapter, the MC and this 16 year old girl are trying delicacies and playing rock paper scissors to see who eats first, which is not direction you would assume from the initail chapters. While this might just be me, I feel that the MC's personality is also starting to change, willingly taking loses just to be a kind person (at the nunnery).

I still very much enjoy the writing and overall premise, but the MC's personality and the "angel" character really detract from an otherwise fantastic novel. Should have stuck to the original elements. This also loses stars for not including the "Caring Protagonist" tag. <<less

The novel is very novel in many aspects. It's amalgum of demon & angel lovebirds, RPG game, transmigrate to another world, politics. World of middle-age Europe knights with locomotives and cars but no electricity. Guns and ammos fughting with flint-lock and spears and swords. Room temperature superconductor and fusion reactor made from othr world's mineral. Internet cyberdemon and primodial god.

Er Mu always gives the priotity to normal grassroot people development. This novel's too. However, the developement differs markly from his previous works. Worth following.

Translation quality at Gravity Tales is worse than the MTL version !!

Especiall the specific names of places, characters, s*x title. He/She/It is used in very confusing way. The Western character's names are spelled by Chinese sound such as Zhu Ti (Judy), Ai Loti (Elody) ! Not to say about using many different Chinese-sound names to one specific entity.
