Loved it! The only part I didnt like was the description of the MC (it was detailed enough), hard to imagine haha, but I guess it was part of the charm. Great story, highly recommended.

One of my favs. I still read in sometimes.

MC is so humble and loyal that she stands by her second master throughout it all and she does it all without any greed in her mind. This story is mostly from our MC perspective who is not judgemental so it is a bit monotone and is limited to the world she has seen

You will be amaze by her. How can such a person exist?

The second master goes tremendous character development over time with the events he will be going through.

MC works as a servant for this rich and happy family. The second master is a handsome spoilt playboy that often ab*ses our MC. The family goes through disaster and are poor that the members are leaving their house. The ML is crippled and is going through slum. With our MC by his side stubbornly taking care of him his will to live strengthen, goes back to the world, apologises for his mistakes and works hard to bring back their glory days.

Despite this all our MC is content watching them happy and is trying to go back to her village but ML stops her.

Towards the end MC reveals that she has been in love with the MC from the beginning this just stuck with me cause there was no inkling of this.

Despite being so short this is very impactful and leaves an imprint.

This is at its core a redemption story. But the author forgot to flesh out the characters, especially the ML, for some of that redemption to feel well earned. I liked the characters for the most part. The FL (a maid in ancient china where those with that status had little rights and fewer prospects), was refreshingly normal, albeit her motivations never made sense to me. The book shone when discussing the ML's recovery after his accident, but suffered when it came to his interactions with the FL. Their interactions... more>> never felt believably heartfelt to me. At best, I could sense gratitude (on his part) and hero worship (on hers), and once the romantic arc commences, the FL still seems to remain on the outside looking in, her thoughts and interactions never suggest any deepened intimacy with the ML.

Overall, a novel that should have focused more on character motivations, skipping the romance as that was the weakest link. <<less

I rate this a 5 out of 5 because it suited my taste and the author wrote it in a way that made me feel like I was reading the character's thoughts and actions, and not just what was going on in the character's environment. This aspect of the story was something I wanted to see in a lot of other stories I found interesting but didn't. For this reason, I could empathize more with the character. To tell you the truth I really cried. I cried so bad. so so bad... this novel is so sweet and loving. I'm glad I gave this a chance. the best chance of my life TBH.

the FL is funny and a very interesting character, So selfless. The ML was an a**hole, but he changed for her. I really didn't think I'd like this a lot. It's so heartwarmjng and there are some major character developments in just a few chapters. The last chapter is a happy ending but it made me cry a lot.

I would say the story is about being at the end of your rope like dying won't make a difference to you anymore but then someone stayed and pushed you to live without anything in return. Then you live and rise up for that person. It's a really beautiful story I didn't think... more>> I needed. <<less

I've started this series because of the 5 stars reviews but I couldn't pass the first chapter.

I don't understand her compassion nor her tenacity to care for someone who ab*sed her physically. I mean, you may deserve a second chance in life but I don't necessarily want to see that silver line given out by the victim. This story has a nice flow and probably touching moments of life lessons but I don't have the stomach to read through it and this kind of trope doesn't bode well with me... more>> after all. I guess I simply abhor this type of MLs and don't want to see them overcome their hardships and be happy. Wow, I'm really bitter, aren't I? Anyways, this one is a hard pass for me. Second master was well written. It does shake your emotion a bit with its plot, but it's enough bitterness that does not overcome the cute and sweet scene.

The ending was perfect, though I honestly want a little bit of plot in terms of the ML regretting his past, overall it's satisfactory and I love it.

I have re-read this story a lot of times, more than eight, probably. And after each time I read it, my chest would be filled with that beautiful feeling of accomplishment.

It's the story about the return of the prodigal son and the devotion of a s*ave who was mistreated by the male lead in the beginning of the story. The story is well written. I loved it.

I liked how the male lead is flawed. He's in the sense the kind of hero that can exist in real world.

First thing that pop up in my mind after reading this is, "oh God, I need some epilog!" This story is really heartwarming. I love both of the character. It just upset me that he didn't know her before. But according to his former nature, I understand that much. Though I said want more, the ending actually is quite satisfying. I had already re-read it multiple times!

A story that actually manages to have a good theme exploration, character development (of a character only), and catharsis to most readers, despite being a short one. The literary techniques were adequate enough for people to be amazed and satisfied, but that's just all there is to it. It really is a shame that it is a short story.

World building wasn't really explored that much. A few descriptions about the surroundings were only stated for clarification or to move the plot. Other characters were also not explored. "Narrator" is a... more>> one-dimensional character, only doing what a servant is supposed to do, even until the end, and like any other female in the series, fantasies things related to the 2nd master. The character development of the 2nd master can also be considered as not excellent since it is driven by romance. Without the girl, his life will be meaningless. He is basically dependent on the girl which is not good in the long run. Lucky that this is a short story.

Overall, it is still a good entertainment that has good themes one would be able to apply in real life. You can both relieve your stress from work or school and learn or confirm some things (themes) at the same time. I rate it 6/10. Definitely recommended.

The story was wonderful.

The character development flowed well. I normally don’t like ugly and dense characters but somehow this was just fiiting like that.

It was more tragic than than anticipated but what made this story and the plot so emotional.

This is a very short, bittersweet, and slow quiet love story. Worth every second to read. To love someone and be ready to let them go is painful. To realize you found someone precious who was always next to you and you never noticed, could cause you to feel ashamed and not deserving of their care. The story was straight forward about hardships the MC and ML faced, but yet it developed so meaningful showing how the MC and ML grew together and genuinely loved. At the first, I felt bad for the maid because the others calling her monkey. Then, the accident happened to the second master, I was crying at the scene when the second master was on the cart, feeling helpless, and got mocked by others, but the the maid tried to defend the second master. Ah, this story so heart-warming!!! You all must read this!

It's so short but it made me cry a river. It's bittersweet.

Not a fan of how the FL didnt hold even a tiny grudge against the ML for abusing her in the past (especially knowing the fact that he only hit her because he couldnt bear to hit the more beautiful maids) but I love his character development and I think he had his retribution.

I also adore the FL for being loyal to the ML and can become very strong when she needed to.

Not me tearing up over a short story (although this happens more often than you'd think, lol).

I hesitated on reading this one because of the ML's behavior, but ultimately read it because I love me a good redemption arc. Let's see that character growth!! The fact that it's a shorter story at 7 chapters makes it a very quick and satisfying read.

The story basically follows a flighty and profligate son, who the FL served as a maid and object of bullying, losing his legs from an accident and recovering from... more>> it while deciding on how to continue his life. The only person by his side is our hard working and innocent FL who's a little dense but good-intentioned. Truly a humbling experience for our ML.

It's told from the sweet first person POV of the FL so you get to experience the ML's changes first hand as she serves him from his terrible wounds to finding his ground as a merchant and recovering what he lost. He makes amends to those he had wronged in the past and his goal/heart is set on the FL going forward.

Great translations! My only complaint is that I would have liked to see more groveling near the end when she reminds him of how he treated her in the past (there was like a paragraph, but I love to see ML's groveling after they regret their actions so that's just a guilty pleasure wish from me lmao). Otherwise, I think the length was great.

TL;DR Read this if you're a fan of:

  • An ML who gets knocked off his pedestal and has to re-evaluate all his life choices before becoming a better man Redemption arc!
  • A compassionate FL who's a little dense but so sincere - her hard work truly gets paid off at the end
  • FL taking care of disabled ML (idk why but this trope always gets me *clutches handkerchief*)
  • Short and sweet novels with just a touch of angst to get your heartstrings pulled
  • A happily ever after!

This is a hidden gem. I was expecting a typical male chauvinistic, power-worship type of story considering the setting but boy, was I mistaken. Part of the plot is fantastical but I'm totally willing to jump over a few plot holes to get the kind of overall feel that this provides. Love love love the MC! She's just awesome!
