I can see how this can be a very polarizing novel. It can be pretty dark and there's lots of ab*se from the ML, which in general I don't mind (some of SQC's 188 novels are in my favorites). However, the way it's handled here can be a little off-putting. This novel is overwhelmingly melodramatic at times, and in my opinion, really over-romanticizes the situation. MC has been so ab*sed since childhood that he is, possibly, a little mentally disabled (the novel calls him "simple" many times). He is extremely... more>> dependent on the ML to a very unhealthy degree. Meanwhile, ML is a sadistic, tyrannical, spoiled, emotionally immature prince/emperor who mu*ders anyone who does anything he even slightly dislikes (even if that person is literally trying to save him from a fire at the time). The author calls him a good ruler many times, but it's hard to see how anyone who starts wars out of boredom, ignores matters of state, and is so easily controlled by emotions can be a good ruler - just sayin'. Some of the unequal power dynamic can be forgiven by the historical setting, but it would've been nice to see MC develop more into a stronger person by the end - he gets a little bit of development, but it's still ultimately unsatisfying. <<less

Someone's finally translating this!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH RANFORCHU!

As far as I can remember this was the only novel where I read the raws from ch 1 till the last chapter. I had headaches coz we all know that you can only understand 50-60% of the dialogues being Google translated if it's from Korean to English language. And of course headaches due to how the events unfold here. I was cussing all throughout the entire novel. But this is one of my favorite angst+ML grovel+wife chasing novels that I've read.

The... more>> plot intensifies as you read further, the ab*se to the MC is nonstop. I really thought I swallowed some of the blood that I was about to vomit while reading. Anyway, to those who came here after reading the webtoon of Paper Flower, be warned. The ML in the webtoon is not as s*umbag as the real ML in the novel. His expression, behavior, reactions, and the way he does things were very extreme compared to how he was being portrayed in the webtoon. If it wasn't for the story title, character names, and the MC, I would have thought that I was reading another different story. However, I still prefer the novel. It's already been a year since I read it's google translation so there were things I didn't understand and already forgotten. But this is truly a highly recommended novel if you are into wife-chasing crematorium.

Please be WARNED of the TAGS. Please do not continue reading if you find the things being done here by the ML to our MC are beyond what your morals can accept. Please do not give low ratings just because you cannot stand how disgusting the ML is. This is not your sweet love story followed by regret. This is dark, sadistic, and a torturous entanglement between two people.

The flow of events was well written by the author, and the character development too. However, ML's character developed from being ruthless and indifferent to being a crazy, sadistic, and obsessed character. The chasing was at the later part but it was well done for me.

I couldn't believe it when I read this novel until late at night. It's been a long time since I got hooked on reading like this. It was exciting.

You can read it without fear, this is the kind of novel with perfectly right doses of sadness and happiness.

After that I had to bitterly look for novels with the master × servant theme to cure my homesickness.

Many readers do not like this novel and rated it down because of the ab*se parts but I think those parts make the novel more realistic. The crown prince (ML) is perfect in every way so how could he fall in love with a no name. Love is something very complicated. I find it hard to buy love at first sign like other novels. Love at first sign appears to be romantic but actually it is the shallowest as it is all about appearance and we all know that appearance... more>> will fade away sooner or later. Someone as perfect as a prince can only be swayed by a devotee. That's what unconditional love can melt ice is all about. S*x, looks are all superficial things. <<less

Well, since we have strong ab*se, it certainly is not for everybody, but everything important is shown in the tags. What makes it annoying at times is the blind pathological devotion (which is actually not unrealistic) and overly emotional immaturity of the prince, which affects him a little to strongly. We have slow character development and a very small setting, which makes it ALL about protagonist and ML and nothing else but I STILL LOVE IT.

This story is something I've been looking for all my life. It's amazing to say the least. The MC suffers and there's time when I hated him for being too weak. The ML is cruel and has a BIG ego, well until he fell in love. I am not sure I've ever given five stars until now. The translation is good. Kudos to our translator. I wish you'll translate more Korean bls.

So many mixed feelings about this one.

Plot wise, I've read the webtoon and I really like it. I get it, the MC isn't very strong and the ML is cruel. But the kind of novel this is is pretty obvious from the get-go so I think that's a bad thing to criticize this for. If you want to read something fluffy, this is clearly not written with you as an audience in mind and criticizing this for not being that makes zero sense (I say this because I see a... more>> lot of these criticisms in comments about the webtoon). It makes just as little sense as me rating a clearly fluffy novel with a low score because it wasn't dark enough for me.

My low rating is unfortunately all down to the translation. I cannot stress how happy I am to see that this was finally translated. However, I unfortunately just could not keep reading due to its quality. There are persistent grammar issues. One major issue I noticed is the lack of possessive 's being used where it should be. I also found that the translation just did not flow. I was often left confused as to what was happening and that is with knowledge of the plot from the webtoon.

I would love to see this translation improved on because I really really still want to read it. For now though, this has been placed on my dropped list. <<less

I can certainly understand the varying reviews on Paper Flower. Paper Flower features a ML who is vicious and cruel, he's deeply in love and deeply flawed, unable to show weakness and too ignorant in love to know how to demonstrate (or even understand) his feelings. Partly, this is because everyone around him are sharks and wolves, wanting to use him or profit from him. He states repeatedly that he's a breeding horse, dehumanising himself, an object for others to covet. This pours onto the MC, who the ML also... more>> treats like an object despite being deeply in love with him.

I feel like for the majority of the story, the ML knows no other way of being. It's only when he thinks he's lost his true love (a feeling which he admits to himself far too late) that he comes to cherish the MC. The MC is also a deeply flawed character. There's another love interest who is by far, by far, the better choice - someone good, loving and tender, who puts his own body on the line to save him from pain. Yet the MC is also terribly, terribly broken and latches onto the first good thing he sees (the ML), for better or for worse. This is an on the edge of your seat read, the cruelty on display is shocking. It's a story about who two awfully and tragically flawed people who are each other's odd puzzle piece, destined to only fit the other's broken angles.

And I loved reading every word, I was captivated.

Thank you for translating. If you gave a deeper thought in this story you will realize that Yoo young dedicated his life on the crown prince because he save his life. That's what yoo young believe back to the time they first met. But the character development of the ML was so good. Dog food every chapter after they meet again. Thank you again for translating and to the author. I hope I can read another of your work.
