Dai Shiyuan has a girlfriend who is very beautiful, with gentle eyes and brows, and every smile is full of charm. When she gently calls her ‘Xiao Yuan’, it always makes her blush and her heart beat faster.

Her girlfriend’s identity is not simple. She is the female lead in a book, while she (Dai Shiyuan) has transmigrated into the book. Every day, she is troubled by how to tell her girlfriend that she is a transmigrator.

“Xiao Yuan, what are you daydreaming about again? Do you regret being with me?” A beautiful woman hugged Dai Shiyuan’s slender waist, her eyes filled with an inescapable madness. Dai Shiyuan’s face turned red, she shook her head, and turned around to hug the woman behind her tightly. Her girlfriend is too suspicious, always thinking that she is going to run away. It makes her both troubled and sweet.

••••

Shan Yaxin discovered that her baby always wanted to escape her, just like they were at the beginning. Although at the beginning, they were in a relationship of sister-in-laws, and she (Shan Yaxin) had some hatred for this younger sister-in-law. But as they got along, she found that her baby became more and more lovely, making her unable to help but fall in love with her.

It was only through some means that she finally completely possessed this person. For the rest of her life, she will not let go.

••••

“Xiao Yuan, don’t think about running away, otherwise I will acquire the Dai family’s business and make all of them homeless.” Shan Yaxin hugged the person in her arms tightly, her eyes filled with a crazy look. Dai Shiyuan quickly leaned over and kissed her to appease her.

If you're into dark and suspicious characters, this novel is just for you. If you're into frustrating protagonists and worldviews, read this and be frustrated.

To be honest, I was expecting darkened characters, given the title. But I didn't sign up for frustrating ones. Each and every single one is frustrating! I spent two hours reading until chap 53, and I can't count the number of times I frowned and had my heart ache. I tend to sympathize with characters when reading novels, so it's really serious when I literally feel... more>> my heart aching.

This next part would be spoilers.

Spoiler

-Dai Father: Doting on his daughter, the real power behind the family. He can argue with his wife, but is pedantic and after arguing softly for a while, let's his wife win. If that's all, there's nothing wrong with it. But even if he 'compensates' his daughter with a house and an additional allowance, even if he promised his daughter that he won't tell the sister-in-law, he'll still tell! The main character lost her trust on him because he's a traitor! He's soft on his approaches but can't be trusted with matters, at all!

-Dai Mother: Mean, shrew, local emperor of the house. Dotes on son and mean to daughter. The stereotypical biased mother-in-law. I sometimes get the feeling that the main character is not her m daughter because of how she treats her. Might be wrong in this assumption.

-Dai brother: The original novel's hero. Another frustrating character. S*umbag. Already has a wife but flirts with others. His type makes me dislike the domineering boss protagonists. Unreasonable, blind, and hopeless. Can't even see that his secretary is a green tea.

-Shan sister-in-law: Original novel's heroine. Don't like her either. Frustrating to the core. At first, she seems to be dark and all, but she's just growl and no bite. I get that she has her past life, but I just can't like her. Has trust issues, thinks she's always right, discriminates against others, and can't fight back properly. She tried to strike using other people's hands, but I still don't like her.

-Dai daughter: This novel's main character. I don't like her too. Passive, can't keep emotions in check, and can't even fight back properly when wronged. It's as if she's asking the world to bully her. If she knew that the secretary is the sister of the one who tried to bully her in school, she should have subtly informed that s*um brother, so the s*um brother can at least know. She just let the secretary green tea strut around with her tea on her birthday! Frustrating, makes me want to kick her in the leg.

Aside from those in this family, the novel also includes 'cold faced' characters, naive characters, gossipy characters, and those characters who can't wait to kill themselves.

Anyway, after ranting about the frustrating characters, I'm still going back to continue reading. This damn novel makes me want to throw it in the tr*sh but I still can't help but want to pick it up.

I was waiting for the yandere heroine but ended up with a thriller heart aching novel.

Again, still gonna read. This novel better not let my expectations down until I finish it 😤 <<less

I actually finished reading this. Thank you translator-nim for picking this up and please don't get tired or discourage to continue this one as there are readers like me who enjoy reading stories like this. I will be honest that for some readers the protagonist feels too distant or annoying for her actions as she is like a paradox, but for me given her backstory and the way her personality is, it is very justified for me that her actions and words are like that. Trust me that if you... more>> are looking for a dark and paranoid person, then this is it. They have misunderstandings and their relationship really developed. But what I would say I liked even more about this is that even though the story is like that, everything was tied together beautifully.

Spoiler

The MC transmigrated and trust me because there are a lot of funny interactions between them and other characters. Especially, when at the beginning her sister-in-law still hates her, she is only exclusively homophobic to the MC—this is the MC's perspective—but actually, she just hates the thought of MC liking her because the MC acts in a way that the female protagonist of the book especially with a traditional mindset found to be signs of her sister-in-law liking her. When she realized she like MC, she really went to great lengths to make her feel her love and trust me, the way and time she realized that showed paranoia and morbid obsession. Not heavy on that but it was implied. She really wanted to be with her and for some part because our MC thought she can never be with the heroine of the book because she is bound to go back to her own world let's the heroine misunderstand her and they do couple things but she never puts a label in their relationship nor confesses to her. But what I liked about this is that she realized it and gave up her life in her own world to be with her.

There are frustrating novels, slow novels, and then there's this novel, which manages to be both while mocking its readers in the process.

At first, the protagonist isn't entirely unbearable; she even generates a little empathy. But over time, her decisions and attitude become increasingly frustrating to the point where following her story feels like a test of patience. The plot moves at a snail's pace, with over 100, 000 words of pure filler that add nothing. And while the relationship building has some decent moments, that's all it is—decent. The... more>> so-called romance is practically nonexistent, better presented in the book's summary than in the actual story.

But the worst part isn’t the slow pacing or the lack of real romance. The worst part is the ending. After all that time invested, after following the story hoping for some kind of resolution, the author decides to mock the readers with an insulting plot twist:

Spoiler

it was all a dream. Yes, everything you read—the story, the characters, the protagonist—never really existed. She was just in a coma, listening to the novel on television. And when she finally has the chance to wake up... she doesn’t. She simply chooses to stay in that "dream" instead of returning to reality, as if the story hadn't been disappointing enough already.

[collapse]

Had this been just a mediocre novel, it would have at least been tolerable. But no, the author deliberately turned it into a cruel joke on the readers. If you’re looking for a story that respects your time and provides a satisfying conclusion, skip this one. <<less
