I read it via Google Translation after chapter 49 (understandable). And I liked it so much that I'm gonna reread it after complete translation.

SHORT REVIEW :

Great Couple - love the chemistry, playfulness and understanding; both of them are expressive about their affection

... more>> Smart MC

A lovely bird family

Good side characters

Comedy is hilarious

Plot includes power struggle between emperor & martial art world And a secret book

#There are almost 200 chapters but I didnt find the novel long. I think the chapters are comparetively short#

Little theaters by the Author are cherry on top

LONG REVIEW

MC : smart. He doesn't abide by the rules. You are gonna see him using alot of tricks to win😉

I love how he always mentions his mother as a little fairy. This mother-son duo has a great understanding too. I laughed so much about the way the MC told her mother about him and the ML.

Big spoiler (I kinda knew that its gonna happen so wasn't surprise)
Spoiler

The MC also turns into a dragon by the last 30-40 chapters

[collapse]

ML : good one. His behavior in his bird form is absolutely adorable. Well the non-human form behaves as per their age according to its actual life span.

What I liked most is that even though the ML was very powerful but he is still shown in losing side many times unlike other bl novels where the ML always wins by himself.

Plot : Already mentioned above in short review. Its not complicated though.

Comedy : It was so good. It is one of reason I'm gonna read it again after translation. The interaction between the MC and the ML is so good. At the end
Spoiler

it's chiken talking to duck when they turn into their respective non-humam forms.

[collapse]

Romance : They are childhood sweethearts. They got into relationship in
Spoiler

around chapter 75 when they were 15 & 18 years old I think

[collapse]

They both understand each other so well and are so caring of each other. I liked that none of them is cold, aloof or tsundere towards the other but are quite expressive of their affection.

The only thing I didn't like
Spoiler

was that how their 1st time s*x started. The ML was not under control and has s*x with the MC BUT IT WONT BE UNDER THE r*pe CATEGORY. SO don't get discouraged. You will understand it when you will read it.

Btw by the time ML cleared his mind then it was fine as ML was quite regretful how it happened. He wanted it to be gentle and intimate. But the MC didn't mind and asked him to continue as he just started to enjoy himself😂

[collapse]

Side Characters :

There are 2 more B×B side couples
Spoiler

the white cloud envoy & Head of Peac*ck Ling; and Grandpa Phoenix & Grandpa Dragon

[collapse]
We'll know more about them in extras.

The Bird family is so lovely. None of the father figure is portrayed as cold dad kind like other novels. Quite caring of their babies.

The MC's mother is such a smart women. Loved her.

There are many more but I'm not gonna mention.

Conclusion : Totally recommended. If you are in hurry like me then can read google translation of raws. They were 90% understandable if you have read enough web novels.

PS : I also recommend you to read the novel "The Submissive Emperor" too from the same author. That one is also good though the translation is still going on. <<less

Fantastic so far! This author is one of my personal favorites. You can always recognize that tone of humor (the mini theaters at the end of every chapter are always hilarious) and spunky MCs! Ziqi, our MC, doesn't disappoint! If you like playful, confident, clever and very spirited main characters, this is for you! Everyone has actual discernable personalities and the world building is top notch. At this stage in the story both the MC and ML are children and it's a joy to see them act their age! I'm... more>> eager to see how things progress! Give the story a try, I don't think you'll regret it! <<less

This story deserves more attention and is already on my most anticipated follow list! It is by the same author for "The Wife is First." Although the translations are still fairly early in, they are excellent!

The world building is very well-thought out in a historical xianxia setting. The writing is charming, humorous, and really draws you into the world.

In this world, martial arts reigns supreme. The royal family has been declining because nobody has been able to perfect the martial arts for the royal line for a few generations now.... more>> Future Emperors (crown prince) are chosen among the princes by the heavens in an ancient ritual. Because the heavens didn't respond among the original princes in the first ritual, the "lost princes" born out of wedlock and their mothers were found and brought to the palace. The protagonist Chang Qi (royal name Chen Ziqi) happens to be one of those lost princes.

Chen Ziqi is clever, funny, cute, and knows how to trick and charm his way through situations. I'm really enjoying reading about him adapting to his new life in the palace with the other princes, his mother's interactions with him and the other royal concubines, and the red chick future ML who gets indignant at Chen Ziqi treating him like a chicken to raise for a future chicken farm.

The author's mini-theatres are hilarious too! <<less

Not rating as I have dropped the novel.

Although I'm not rating it, it's probably a 4. Decent quality translation on chrysanthemum garden, and the novel itself is very well written. The main reason I am dropping it is because I found it a bit boring, but I can see why other people love the novel so much.

I do want to raise a couple of points for those going into this novel first time:

If underage romance bothers you then don't read this novel. There were a couple of points early on... more>> that made me feel uncomfortable.

Spoiler

the beginning of the novel has the MC and ML under 10. There is no romance here, but there are a lot of crude "bird" jokes, which would pribably be fine on their own, but the little theatres by the author at the end of the chapter take the innuendos and suggestive a step further which made me feel uncomfortable.

[collapse]

The MC and ML start "helping" each other when they are both under 18 as well. Just a forewarning if that kind of thing makes you uncomfortable!

Now for some good points!

I really like the MCs personality! He's fun, smart, and shameless. My favourite type. It's just a shame that the plot felt like it dragged for me. The ML is also a great character, especially when in his bird form.

The plot itself is interesting. As mentioned, I got a bit bored of it, but I'm actually reluctant to drop it, but I know I would also regret spending so much time binge reading it. It just drags a bit.

That's all from me, definitely give the novel a go if it interests you! <<less

Amazing plot of a bird gong and chicken loving Shou. Absolutely hilarious. I'm loving it every second. I can't wait for Chen Ziqi and Dan Yi to grow up. Gong is cute and powerful and shou is vengeful and mischievous. What a combo!!! Looking forward to more development.

I hope Ziqi will be the crown prince in future not the eldest prince.

Rating: 5.0

Pairing Type: prince MC x god/divine ml; childhood friends; high school sweethearts; shameless x doting, devoted ml; s*x positive couple; shou MC x gong ml

Heat level: medium (3.5/5 spicy; a few open door love scenes. The leads are into PDA and are frequently affectionate)

... more>> Re-readability: 4/5 will likely re-read

Trope: xianxia; court politics; dual-cultivation; dragons and phoenixes; revenge

Triggers: death; attempted r*pe

It’s just a feel-good type of novel. The leads have known each other since they were little, they grow up together and fall in love. They are literally inseparable and it’s lovely.

Their family dynamic (outside of the court politics) is also very heartwarming. <<less

I have ambivalent feelings about this novel. It started off well — I was genuinely hooked. A very slow story, which usually doesn't bother me... but somewhere around the halfway mark, I started feeling like it was too slow. Not slow in terms of plot progression, but slow in terms of plot absence. Reading for the hundredth time about how the two of them roll around on the blanket (without any real detail, ahem ahem), how they take walks, feed each other cherries and watermelon seeds, how beautiful they are,... more>> how they spend two whole chapters going somewhere just to do the same things that were already mentioned... In short, it felt like for every twenty pages of actual plot, there were eighty percent of repetitive fluff. That kind of empty sweetness makes your teeth hurt, and somewhere around their wedding I just thought — I can't do this. Really, I can't. And yet, the story could've been good, if... if there had simply been more of it? And maybe if it had made more sense.

Also, the story is broken into really short chapters, which, combined with having to re-enter a password after every one of them, killed the rest of my motivation to keep reading.

That said, I've read another novel by this author, and it actually started out very similarly—but it was shorter and significantly better.

My final complaint—and this applies to both novels I've read—there are troubling hints of pe*ophilia. From their childhood relationship (when they're eight!), one of them seems innocent, while the other is just a bit too subtly excited by the sight of the other's nipples. And there are more hints like that. Nothing explicit, but the mood is just... really strange. And the fact that they start a physical relationship at practically thirteen or fourteen... well, okay, people used to grow up faster back then, but I would really appreciate if modern ethical standards were a bit more clearly reflected. <<less

Super cute and satisfying! I want a fluffy bird to cuddle too. The animal descriptions are really top notch ‘squealing kicking my legs’ level of adorable-ness.

Predictable and somewhat OP but it scratches the itch in all the right ways. You’d think MC is smart, to con his way through all the political intrigue, then he shows you a hilariously silly side that makes you fall for him even more. ML is beautiful, possessive, and endearingly ‘young’—there’s this sense of wanting to be stronger, more protective, but he’s technically 14-17/18 years... more>> old, so he’s learning and growing; and so the dynamic between the two youths finding their way is just lovely. That said, there’s still the hot blooded youth aspect—smut! Some! And implied! Yay! Which was still hot and fun.

Bonus to the funny side characters—MC’s mum! So funny and dependable! And the birdie parents too. The necessary ones were built up sufficiently to make an impression, and all the side CPs were very cute.

Would reread when looking for a fun (ny), easy-going novel. <<less

Oh wow. That is so... good. AS expected of LYQH!!! This one is a light, fluffy, read but will not leave you bored to death. It's so funny, I couldn't put it down. MC and ML are so cute, and funny, and strong. But of course, not everything is easy going for them, but they persevere and make through- while still keeping it light-hearted!!

Lowkey, half way through, everything is so fluffy and I got so suspicious because, what if there's a hidden twist and I'm on a pitfall!? Then I... more>> looked into the author's page, and gave a sigh of relief. This is a sweet novel through and through and the unconditional love tag is put to its good use. It's somewhat long but I honestly wished for more. Everything in here has reasons, the side characters are funny, and good and worth cheering on. The antagonists are also smart- well, somewhat. The plot is so well done and infused with sweet and funny moments, it's just too good to pass and put down.

I just realized that the author is the same as The White Cat's Divine Scratching Post. Guess the author loves animals a lot or even raises some of them. The author is really good at writing animals and children as well as their silly antics. The way this author is describing a situation and a scene is descriptive enough and in enough details that makes readers can envision the scene clearly. The author doesn't just tell the story but also show it to us with imagery and details scenery. Also,... more>> the mini theater at the end of every chapter is a treasure. <<less

I recently finished this book and felt compelled to write a review. The translation is superb, making the story easy to follow and enjoy. Initially, I had reservations while reading the first two chapters, as it started from a child's perspective, which I don't usually prefer. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining, funny, mature, smart, and well-crafted it was, especially the loving and endearing relationships between the MC and his mum, and the ML.

The book felt like a journey from childhood to teenage years to adulthood, and it... more>> never dragged. The relationships and power dynamics were realistic and engaging. The world-building was perfect—detailed enough to be immersive without being overdone, and the plot, people, and events linked beautifully together.

The main characters were fantastic, and I absolutely loved their interactions with each other and their healthy and hilarious with the immediate family relationships on both sides, which is rare in BL. The story was super entertaining, funny, and warm. Even the side characters were well-developed, and the villains were intriguingly fleshed out.

The sweetness and journey between the main characters, along with their endearing jealousy and unconditional love for each other, added a lovely touch. There was no angst, just a wonderful, enjoyable read. I've read nearly all the translated works by this author, and this one is no exception—highly recommended! <<less

Only now noticed that this is my 6th novel by this author, and they all feature in my fav list on NU!

Light, fluffy and fun palace intrigue/cultivation novel with a cunning and street smart MC x a devoted phoenix God ML. The story follows them from childhood to adulthood, surrounded with an excellent cast of gorgeous and wonderful characters. There's a lot of fluff, romance, playfulness and PDA. This novel is so unserious—I freaking love it.

This is definitely one of the better xianxia novels I've read this year. It has everything from top-notch humor, intriguing characters, well-paced character growth, & a good share of fluffy moments guaranteed to make you wonder why you're not raising a chicken yourself. This is probably my favorite work so far from this author.

The synopsis is pretty straightforward: MC is born into a royal family that serves a "Protector God" who's responsible of choosing the next emperor. Hmmm I wonder who got... more>> chosen...

The journey to become emperor is a rocky one, but one with many noteworthy moments. MC is sassy, unique, & someone that you really can't bear to dislike. I love shameless gongs, but an outrageously shameless MC is somehow even better to read about. It's no wonder that our ascetic, innocent gong is totally pitted by him. I think one of the best things about their relationship is that there isn't a glaring age gap between the two. It's not a novel where you have MC being groomed at an early age; rather this is a childhood friends-to-lovers situation. & IT'S SO FREAKING CUTE GODDAMMIT! It makes pacing so much better because you can actually see the growth our characters undergo. They're not OP; the world does not revolve around them. They work & fight their cute little butts off.

I will just emphasize humor once more because I applaud the author's creative mind. There are many noteworthy moments, for example, Chen Ziqi stating that he has diarrhea in order to stop the attempts of ruffians trying to r*pe him. HILARIOUS.

If you're looking for a worthwhile read that's guaranteed to make you giggle, kick your feet, & die from fluff—this is it. Open up a new tab & hurry up. As always, TLs are godly. <<less
