People with the ability to hunt mutants, Mansaengjong.

One day, they suddenly found themselves isolated in Naraka.

Seowoon was once called a highest-level and known for his excellent combat capabilities, but he suddenly lost all of those abilities after being isolated in Naraka. Instead, he gained the ability to detect the emergence of mutants through the “Messenger”.

To escape Naraka, a by-product of mutants called wu ore was needed. However, Seowoon would die even if he just brushed against a mutant, let alone hunting them.

Upon learning this fact, Cahaya made a proposal to him:

“Cha Seowoon, from now on, be my mutant searcher?”

With Cahaya’s help, Seowoon was able to travel back and forth to Seoul, but he found it more and more difficult.

‘Why did I push you away……?’

He just wanted to deny the feelings of attraction that he felt towards Cahaya.

One of the best BL novel I've ever read, and I'm not even joking. The worldview is MASSIVE and full of plot twists that will keep you immersed in the story. From the beginning to the end, there is no boring part at all. Not to mention, the dialogues are fun and the characters are charming. You can pretty much trust Chaepali-nim's skills in telling stories—it's otherworldly.

The world of this novel is beautifully crafted and the characters remind me of people I know. It feels incredibly real. Normally, when you read fantasy novels and comics you spend a lot of your time suspending your disbelief and overlooking how shallow the characters and world is, but this novel is incredibly immersive. Even the fantasy elements are beautifully depicted.

One of the best things about it is there's nothing that feels like an exposition dump, you're just thrown into the world and learn as the story progresses without being... more>> left wondering what's happening. You slowly learn about the world as the MC interacts with it in a way that isn't overwhelming or boring.

The romance is also very slow and leaves you wanting more. It's very obvious both the ML and MC are in love but they both deny their feelings and insist they're straight. Normally I find this very frustrating, but it's pretty cute in this novel because their interactions feel so real and not forced.

I really want this to be turned into a manhwa but I want one of the shounen artists to draw it so the action and fantasy elements are drawn as beautifully as they're written. This would be a perfect young adult action fantasy novel that's more popular than most if it wasn't yaoi, but I'm very happy it's yaoi! <<less

This is one of my favourite BL novels, so I highly recommend it! My rating is 5/5.

Beware, my review will contain spoilers!! I won't use spoiler bars unless it's a really major spoiler, so don't read if you don't want to get spoiled!!

Mansaengjong/Perennial Species/Late-born Species is set in an apocalyptic-like world with various mutants and gates. Here, awakened people who can use a power called 'cosmos' are known as 'Mansaengjong', and they are mostly responsible for hunting these mutants. One day, all Mansaengjong are transported to an unknown place called... more>> 'Naraka', and Cha Seowoon, the shou of this work, discovers that he has lost all his abilities and is no longer a top-ranking Mansaengjong. Fortunately, he gains a new ability known as 'Messenger', which lets him detect mutants in advance, and so he is able to survive in Naraka. Eventually he reunites with Cahaya, the gong of this work and another top-ranking Mansaengjong, who invites him back into the Fallen Angels guild which he was once the vice-guild leader of.

First, let's introduce our main characters: Cha Seowoon, our guild leader and elephant shrew; and Cahaya, the strongest alien and hair-chewing maniac!

Both of them are really amazing and likeable characters. Seowoon may appear weak at first, but he is definitely not weak! No matter what, he is the guild leader of Fallen Angels and is reliable and responsible (unlike a certain cringe alien =_=). He is a character who grows as the novel continues, so even if you might not like him at first, I hope you try and continue on! Cahaya, as befitting of ridi gongs, is cringe, crazy and clown (and OP!). He's obsessed with Seowoon even before realising his feelings, and does crazy stuff such as commissioning Seowoon's jacket to have his name plastered all over it... He's also very much a pe*vert (≖_≖)

Spoiler

His life on Aso in the SS after the reset was literally think about Seowoon > destroy some gates > beat up some people > think about Seowoon XD Seowoon was surprised when he said he didn't have any friends and everyone thought he was crazy

[collapse]

There are times when their actions may seem frustrating, which is to be expected since they both think it's 'unrequited love', but the outcome is worth it, so just bear with it for a bit ¬‿¬

Han Donhee is the MVP of this novel. I do not accept any objections. This tsundere has it hard with a certain crazy alien bastard bullying him whenever he gets jealous or has relationship problems.

There are many characters in this novel that you might not like at first, but will probably come to love (e.g. Um Jigun, Namgung Jun). While there are tr*shy and self-centred characters in here who do deserve to die, there are also many who are just trying to make the best of what they have and don't necessarily mean any harm. Unfortunately, not all of them live on :/

Spoiler

But don't worry, it's only temporary o͡͡͡╮ (。❛ᴗ❛。) ╭o͡͡͡ >

[collapse]

There are a number of twists in this novel, and it involves time and space shenanigans, so keep an eye out for hints. To conclude, I really really love this novel and highly recommend it. The only thing I wasn't completely satisfied with was the ending, but I'm still kinda glad it turned out that way, and the SS were really good and absolutely made up for it! <<less

HELLO?? There's a reason why this is an award winning work bc omfg this novel is INSANE...

it has our power couple who have SO MUCH chemistry it's unbelievable like wtf ✅, possessive ML ✅, fantasy world with clearly defined individual abilities ✅, stunning & realistic characters ✅, and well timed plot twists ✅, mindboggling mysteries✅, IT HAS EVERYTHING OKAY??

Our MC (Seowoon) is first of all BEAUTIFUL and very realistic and enjoyable narrator. He starts off weak in the beginning, but dw our MC and ML will become the... more>> ✨strongest✨ soon.

Then our ML (Cahaya) — I LOVE HIM SO MUCHHHH. He's literally the funniest bastard ever and topping it off he's also possessive and high-key obsessive (dw he's a green flag). He literally made MC a jacket with his name plastered all over it, , he's SUCH A NUTCASE LMAO.

The chemistry between our MC and ML is INSANE?? THEY ALSO HAVE THE FILTHIEST AND MOST erot*c R18 SCENES (it f*cking ruined me for other novels—) they're also insanely in love but also so tragic because they SACERFICED EVERYTHING FOR EACH OTHER ☹️☹️...

The plot is VERY well done!! The plot twists and mystery are excellently crafted and keep you on your curling toes (after reading the smut hehe), and phew the author is insane at writing hopelessness and devastation (IT HAS A HAPPY ENDING DW!!) the plot might start pretty slow and it can be quite confusing but don't drop it bc it's gonna be worth it 1000%!!

i really have NOTHING negative to say about this novel and no way this novel is this underrated and rated less than a 4.8... please just read it you'll enjoy so much!, it's an absolute gem!! <<less

Such a beautiful novel 🤧👏👏

MAN, THIS DESERVES GLOBAL RECOGNITION even outside the bl genre. 10/5 stars for this. Award winning tag ain't a joke.

The world building is SERIOUSLY AMAZING that idk how Chaepali-nim have thought of that. The reveals are so thrilling. It totally exceeded my expectations from when I was reading the early chapters, I thought it's going to be like some hunting-system plot but didn't expect it to be THAT GRAND. I recommend reading this in one go/consecutively instead of part by part with long gaps since it's... more>> complex and to avoid confusion. What I like about Chaepali is she doesn't info dump and even without it, the countless infos

aren't lacking. And I really love her way of reveals, through memories or flashbacks instead of directly saying it in present times to the readers (same goes with her other novels). The start to the end connecting was and is still mind-blowing.

I'll be having a lot of spoiler tabs in my review but I suggest not to open it when you haven't read it yet, like pls.

---------

I love all the characters, everyone got their own use in the novel plus the guild members' bond was the best, bros be bros. Kangsan is too funny lol. Han Donhee and Kim Hansol are my fav after CP

Delicious slowburn of CP, worth the wait and srsly like or maybe more than than a married couple, they even killed me. Power CP fr that they overcome the universe *coughs. The clearing of misunderstandings didn't only deepen the romance but also drove the plot itself. The banters, cuddles, words of affection, srsly love them so much
Spoiler

SEOHA WITH CAHAYA AS MOM AND SEOWOON AS DAD IS SOO CUTE, HIS LAUGHS AND JUMPING ACTIONS AAAAA AND COCO with the favorite Uncle Han Donhee. I miss Seoha AAA

I also love the reveal that Sansar's first love is Seoha too, she's cute as well. They're so adorable. It's too funny that Cahaya was too shocked that Sansar's a girl

Spoiler

Seowoon fainting in Sahara Desert, when he realized that Cahaya is his messenger and that Cahaya is all alone as a celestial being since Seowoon and everyone died.

Seoha/Setone's memories, where Seowoon had a recorder saying he'll die first and said sorry to Cahaya AAAA 😭

[collapse]

Ugly sobbing during the part
Spoiler

where Seowoon and Cahaya went back to Earth from Aso, almost everyone died but Han Donhee seeing them back got me bawling and Coco comforting Seowoon.

What made me cry the most is the part where Seowoon was siiting on Cahaya's seat telling 'messenger' Cahaya that his seat is where he always looked at him during their HS days. Then Seowoon runs out of the classroom chasing Cahaya's unreachable cosmos AAAA both povs was srsly heartbreaking. The atmosphere in there was really sad 😭

Chapter 231, 232, 233, Side story 1 ep 1 broke my tear ducts

And lastly, that ending for main story was WRAPPED UP SO WELL. I was scared that it might be a bad ending (despite of everyone is alive) but I still hoped for Cahaya's return and HE DID 😭😭😭😭😭 His return didn't ruin the whole novel unlike other happy endings where it is corny. This even made me soo emotional. So happy for Han Donhee and Seong-hee too

[collapse]
ChaCha bracelet made me emotional, man...

I want to kneel to Chaepali-nim's writing, compared to her early works, it just keeps on improving, getting better, then masterpieces.

Perennial species deserves to have a high quality animation, those fighting scenes and amounts of beautiful settings. Bless the side stories too, it isn't just a fluff but showed realistic outcomes
Spoiler

Like Mason's actions, Kim Yi-hwan and other perennials that have a fragment of their memories

DANG, SIDE STORY 2s MADE ME GASP TOO. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

Surprisingly, I was able to enjoy and understand the scenes and infos in mtl. I would def read this again in a better tl and hoping this would have a physical en book in the future. <<less

This is easily one of the best BL novels I’ve ever read, and definitely the best action one. The story pulls you in right from the start and keeps you hooked. It’s not something you can just skim through, though you really have to pay attention because the beginning is packed with hints for what’s coming later. The way the story slowly gives you information is just chef’s kiss.

Both the MC and ML are super likable. You really get to see where they’re coming from and why they do what... more>> they do, which makes it so easy to root for them. Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the ML, Chahaya, at first. I thought he was just another cliché playboy character, and he seriously annoyed me. But wow, after sticking with it for over 100 chapters, he’s become one of my favorite MLs in BL. He’s got so much more depth than I expected.

This is exactly why I don’t trust the ratings on these sites—4.2? Seriously? This deserves so much better. The way the story explains time paradoxes is spot-on and makes total sense. Everything unfolds so smoothly. And don’t even get me started on the worldbuilding! The way the gates and other planets are introduced bit by bit is just amazing. It’s all so well done that you can’t help but get s**ked into the world.

I’m so into this story that I’m already thinking about drawing fanart for it. It’s just that good. If you’re into BL with action, godly powers, and a story that actually makes you think, you’ve got to read this one. <<less

Well to begin with, it's a novel that will get you hooked. I'm kind off disappointed to see so less reviews. The writing style, the world building, the characters, the story line are all well built. Though the one thing the characters here lack is their political knowledge. But that's understandable the guild is technically carried by young adultss who have been haughty since childhood.

The MC is a very realistic character even though he may somewhat look like a pushover it's understandable it's not been long since the lawful society... more>> has changed. And it's not like it's become completely unlawful. He tends to overthink things but at the same time seems dense to quite obvious stuff. He is like closeted teenager who has to solve things without a proper adult.

The ML is also a very fleshed out character. He's eccentric but at the same time he is affectionate. The MC and ML mesh too well together but I would like to say they aren't fit to be a guild leader or vice guild leader I personally believe they need someone who can guide them properly, but I can't find a seemingly correct adult for that. The uncle is kind off busy with his own life while there is nothing that can be expected from mc's abusive parents.

That being said Han Dohee seemed a good character but dude is just too chill to take responsibilities. The other two are basically kids who follow their vice guild and guild master. Technically the guild needs a responsible adult. They really are bunch of troublesome kids but they are adorable and I personally love their relationships. Honestly it's good they are strong so others don't mess with them easily. <<less

This novel is so interesting, even from the very beginning. You're drawn into this world so seamlessly and the characters and the situation are intriguing from the get go. MC is well-written, the "messenger" that gives him powers is cryptic but hilariously savage, and ML is spicy. We love a desperate ML. Excellent translation too

The writing is so compelling, and the translator does a fantastic job at getting everything cross, one of the many reasons I run everytime I see an update. That's mainly why I wanted to write this short (ish?) review.

I've been following it for a while now and I just love seeing how the story slowly unfolds.... the premise and world building is one that I thoroughly enjoy. A mashup of fantasy, dungeon, powers or in this case "cosmos" it's all so interesting and cool!! It's definitely not something I've read... more>> before, like yes there are some elements of the kr dungeon fantasy genre but that's just the small building blocks for building the world used in mansaengjong - really unique on its own right in my opinion - its not boring nor does it feel repetitive at all! like just from the beginning chapters and how it started, I seriously had no clue where the plot would go and I still don't (one of the best things about good writing tbh like I have so many theories just from 60 odd chapters im feeling also some sort of

aaand cahaya and seowoon's dynamic makes me!, !*@* I can't wait to see how it'll develop, both as characters and romantically of course, especially as the plot continues to flourish.... im particular curious about seowoon and cahaya's role...i feel like cahaya is still very much an enigma... for both the readers and the MC... like cahaya's

I'm honestly shocked this doesn't have more reviews and ratings?? I've been reading it nonstop because it's really THAT good!

Idk whether to kiss myself for saving it so I could binge more chapters, or cry that I didn't start it sooner. I was lowkey hesitant bc of the tags (I'm usually not into friends-to-lovers) but this is literally the first one I've read and I'm OBSESSED.

It's technically a dungeon novel, but it's nothing like the usual ones. The world-building?? Actually creative and detailed. Mansaengjong, their powers and eye colors, cosmos,... more>> planets, messengers, mutants, ores, black walls, gates.. like?? And that's not even all of it. So many cool elements, and it all feels so fresh and unique, and none of it feels recycled or half-baked.

Talking about the story itself would honestly turn into a whole essay, and my brain's not ready for that and I don't want to spoil anything. Just know that you're gonna get twists that hit hard and a story that keeps you thinking and connecting the dots. And I love how both MCs have equally big roles and impact in the plot!

Also the humor in this story?? Actually funny. I laughed so many times, and the emotional moments still hit hard. The fight scenes are actually entertaining?? Not long or boring. JUST READ IT.

Seowoon, our little elephant shrew. He's is so amazing, smart, pretty and beautifully written. You might think he's weak at first, but he's so capable. And he hides so much under the surface, like the way he's quietly dealing with his own insecurities because of his shitty father.

Now Cahaya... I've never loved a male lead this much. This man is powerful, hot, hilarious, a complete menace and 100% obsessed with Seowoon (in the best way). He's a walking red flag to the entire universe but when it comes to Seowoon? Soft. Protective. Unhinged. Man LITERALLY doesn't care about anything else but Seowoon and I'm living for it!

The misunderstandings between them? Had me in shambles. But it's enjoyable and there's zero cliché. Every chapter had me invested. And when they finally get together? Yeah, I died. Both are unpredictable, insanely powerful, but totally wrapped up in each other and their entire lives revolve around one another. The way they communicate and love each other is so—*sobs* The dynamic?? Literal gold. I get why they're obsessed with each other. That slow burn?? The chemistry?? The tension?? The intimacy?? It all hit like a truck. I was literally rolling in bed. Oh and the SMUT?? SO nasty.. I just can't get enough of their relationship.

The Tacheon guild is such a chaotic mess. I mean these guys are funny, young and acting like their age + Cahaya and Donhee are the most insane but thankfully Seowoon's there to keep them all together.

(Literally that meme of one calm person holding back a bunch of lunatics on leashes). LMAO.

And apparently the author also wrote Rainbow City and Finders Keepers, both of which got manhwa adaptations but this one? Their most popular work and still no manhwa?? If it ever gets adapted, people will be obsessed. I just hope they get an artist that does it justice because I NEED to see this world and these characters in full color.

I'm convinced the author had E.T. by katy perry on loop while writing ChaCha couple bc omg... the lyrics are so them.

31 chapters in, in-prog review.

This is so good. The writing is great, and what a fantastic world setup. We have the KR hunter/dungeon setup, but the author put such a good twist. The action is truly there, tyvm.

I've heard people say that this author is amazing, and I think I'm going to be obsessed.
