Hush is a thrilling crime novel filled with all-villain characters. The protagonist and supporting cast wreak havoc in a sinful city, committing heinous acts and leaving readers exclaiming, “What the hell!”

In the end, everyone meets a miserable demise.

Shen Yan transmigrates into the story.

And becomes the protagonist’s neighbor.

The protagonist, the leader of a crime syndicate, is a god-tier maniac who single-handedly builds a team of villains, leads them in chaos, and, out of sheer boredom, orchestrates their collective downfall.

A dark twist on the “overpowered protagonist” trope.

The neighbor, Shen Yan, is the protagonist’s first henchman, a fervent admirer who, under the protagonist’s influence, practically offers up his heart as a token of love.

Shen Yan (closing his eyes): “Not bad. A heart-and-soul kind of brother.”

With no money to move, he has no choice but to adapt in order to survive.

As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Shen Yan decides to emulate the protagonist’s persona to stay alive.

Are you a lunatic? Me too!

Do you hate idiots? Me too!

Do you want to destroy the world? Haha, surprise, me too!

Successfully pretending to be a maniac, he becomes the protagonist’s closest friend.

The protagonist brands a kiss on his hand, interlocking their fingers, his eyes deep and brimming with an unnerving fervor.

“You’re the only one worthy to stand by my side.”

Later, Shen Yan saves up enough money and decisively flees. To ensure no loose ends, he betrays the lunatics and gets them locked up in Star Prison for ten thousand years.

Then he fakes his death, assumes a new identity, and sneaks off to a remote planet.

After two carefree years, he sees a news broadcast where the host calmly reports an update on the Star Prison:

“On July 28th, Star Year 136, a crime syndicate led by a certain Ruan has successfully broken out of Star Prison. Citizens are advised to…”

The host’s mouth keeps moving, but Shen Yan hears nothing.

The protagonist hugs him from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder.

The red-haired fugitive points at Shen Yan’s wanted poster on TV and laughs loudly.

The fragile scam artist hides under the dining table, clutching Shen Yan’s ankle, trembling.

The cold arsonist pulls out a chair to sit across from him, lights the tablecloth on fire, and smiles at him through the flames.

“Baby,” the protagonist murmurs, kissing Shen Yan’s temple.

“This time, how are you planning to run?”

Shen Yan (surprisingly calm): “Haha, what a lively reunion!”

I want to give a big thank you to the translators first of all, I know they didn’t have to post it online for others to read and I am grateful. But I want to speak up about something that bothers me and hardly see anyone talk about. Paywall behind chapters, taking payment for translating a novel that is not your own for your own profit. I don’t wish to assume but I doubt the author is getting any of this money. That in its fact, is unethical. I dare... more>> ask for others to refrain and support the original authors or share their support for translators through other channels.

As for the novel, I really like seeing the descent into madness that Shen Yan experiences throughout the novel. The psychological aspect of change being so terrifying for someone like him who he’s considered himself to be ‘normal’, to maybe not be, or never had been. !!!Nom nom nom!! <<less

Read till the last translated chap. Kudos to translator btw, they are doing pretty cool job 🙏

As for the novel, I don't really have much yo say. It's just that it's wildly entertaing. My fav tags are all condensed here lol (male yandere, possesive chars., shameless protag etc.) what can I say?

MC is a fun character, witty and has a sense of humour. I like the quality of his that he doesn't bang his head against the floor to end it all, dealing with these psychos but instead still strifing... more>> to reach the end, however unclear it might be. Things or events, one way or another, aligning with his wishes gives him Gary Sue-esc light but I think it's not so glaringly obvious that it overshadows his planning and wit.

ML, is, well, psychotic. But with just how much he obsseses over games "set to showcase the true face of humanity, their twisted desires, how cruel they can be to their loved ones in perilious situations"... Woooo~ so spookyy~. It's giving chuuni hands down. I just find him funny lolol hope to see him often.

Plot is mainly centered around these nutjobs and MLs' weird ass games so I pretty much covered it all??

To bring up the rating gave it a 5, but a solid 4.5 nevertheless. Will update if my opinion changes in the upcoming chaps and sorry for the broken english its my third language ups >.< <<less

MC is crazy person who thinks he is normal.
Spoiler

[in his past life] normal people don’t infiltrate cults to rescued family members. Or scare their university friends and almost blow up a laboratory. His scared straight event. This new life is just him without attachments in my opinion.

[collapse]

Anyway, he very assute about the crazy people in this life and his main goal seems to be angling to both seduce-ish (control?) the crazys’, mind game the main villain to live long enough to; 1.) get rid of the villains. 2.) survive the mind games 3.) escape.

Spoiler

Forced to play at being a big villain to both interest the main villain so he’s not disposed off. He’s highly adaptable and has high EQ. Able to manipulate others how he wants easily.

MC is crazy, but in denial about it. We get tricked into thinking he’s normal, but I don’t believe now. He follows the villains thought process way too easily. Even when reading the novel before he found the main villain to come to a reasonable end. MC is a skilled actor, who can both see through deception and deceive to a high degree. Naive isn’t in his vocabulary.

[collapse]

Overall setting is pretty great, a good balance and pace with world building. They don’t try to overly explain the world and brings points up naturally. It’s simple enough to follow along. A good dystopian setting.

The love interests are interesting (?) and diverse in both background and personality. I would call all of them a phycologist’s dream case. I admire MC for dealing with it all.

The romance isn’t too dark.
Spoiler

Pretty, tame for crazy people, in my opinion. It might just be that the MC is pretty good at controlling them that it doesn’t get out of hand, at least for right now.

Its a fantastic novel. I really encourage you to try it.

Its very much a dark dystopia and it has all the features of a dark dystopia. Really talking the worst of humanity here. Its not explicit and if you ever wanted to get into dystopia fiction, I honestly think this would be a good intro purely because the setting is treated as a setting and not as a plot device. Its like a play where a scene is two lovers having an arguement in a forest. The focus is on... more>> the lovers having an arguement and not the bird noises. They might mention the forest but frankly the forest is kinda irrelevant. They could have been anywhere, including Italy or a bedroom or in a car, the setting just happened to be a forest. And if you've never seen a forest before, this would be a good intro because you can see the workings of a forest without having to actually go to the forest and bare your soul to it.

That sounds bad, but frankly, the focus of this is just on the characters and I do like them very much. I got attached to the characters, because where the author let the world building slip a little, they really poured their focus in on making good characters. <<less

Love this story!!!!! Try this if you are looking for something where the MC and ML are trying to kill each other but they still have that tension between them. I love the other male leads; especially blaze. I love the story, u might find the ending a bit rushed. I lso havent read the extras so im not sure if the extras will change my opinion, brb
